FROM POPULAR ROMANCE AUTHOR MAREN JENNER Book two in the Sweet Nothings series
Rhonda Elgin is turning over a new leaf, especially if it means rekindling an old flame.
Newly single, Rhonda Elgin has secretly wanted her chauffeur and long-time friend, Greg Peterson, for several years. But after her attempt to land him went awry, she’s had to watch him from a distance.
Now that Greg has returned as her chauffer, Rhonda wants a second chance. When Greg asks her to be his last-minute date for his sister’s wedding on New Year’s Eve, she leaps at the chance. She can’t pass up the opportunity to spend the holiday away from the pressure of her old life. Nor can she pass up the chance at getting Greg to notice her. Even it is in cold, snowy Northern Michigan.
An incoming blizzard strands the maid of honor, creating the perfect opportunity to prove to everyone that Rhonda is more than a spoiled, billionaire heiress. And just maybe she can fan the sparks between her and Greg into a flame along the way.

This second installment of the Sweet Nothing Duet was such a cute story. We saw a little bit of this couple in the 1st book and I loved how we saw the other couples we were introduced too. Rhonda and Just Greg had such a cute story.
Omg, where should I even start with this review… because after I read the first book in the Sweet Nothing series, I was already mindblown and oh so excited to just dive into book 2, and can I just say I think the author has outdone herself again! Yes, I know that Rhonda and Grey’s “relationship” were teased slightly in book 1 because of Avery’s curiosity about the pair's awkwardness, but damn so was I. Rhonda has pined after him for so long now since he was her chauffeur from her younger years. We also get to learn that she did construct a play for him a few years ago and that he rebuffed her, and after he also went to work for her brother. Greg has always been pretty reserved about life, so there isn’t much out there about him besides the fact that we know he’s been a part of Rhonda and Derek’s life since their teen years. At the end of the first book, Greg does return to be Rhonda’s driver, and after driving her home from an event, she asks him if he’s doing anything during the holidays. He does state that he has his younger sister's wedding to attend during New Year's Eve and that he hasn’t decided if he should attend or not. Then Rhonda volunteers to go with him if he wants to take her as his plus one, which is her plan to secretly reconnect with him. But damn the romantic tension is very clear between them even from the beginning. We slowly learn more about Greg’s insecurities and boundaries, which cause him to rebuff Rhonda all those years ago. Rhonda has also kept many things a secret from friends and family, like her claustrophobia and all the harassment that her ex-fiance is doing. After...Greg is there for her as a support system, and she manages to tell her friends and brother about what has been going on.
I don’t want to spoil the whole plot, but this book and just the whole series is a must-read.
Overall, I think I may like the Jellybean Dilemma a bit better than the first book, but both are amazing!!! Rhonda and Greg’s connection is just so awe and heartwarming. And again, a huge huge thank you to Maren Jenner for this ARC copy on this beautiful Candyland romance journey. ❤️
The second book in the sweet nothings series did not disappoint! The story of Greg and Rhonda hit in all the right places and the end was so incredibly satisfying! Greg is Rhonda’s chauffeur, six years her senior and secretly in love with her. Following an incident when Rhonda is nineteen, Greg switches to being her older brothers driver but has recently taken back over duties as Rhonda’s. Following Rhonda’s suggestion to fake date for Greg’s sisters wedding, their relationship begins and sparks fly! I’ve been impatiently awaiting this story since having the luck of receiving an arc for the cupcake standard and now I will impatiently wait for the announcement for book #3 following Gina and Liam, because seriously fuck Josh! Thank you to the author for the arc, all views are my own.
I devoured this book. I wasn't sure what to expect with Rhonda and Greg's story, they were definitely present in The Cupcake Standard (book 1 in this series), but their story was mostly a huge question mark.
Rhonda and Greg have known each other for a long time. He has been her long-time chauffer and her an heiress to a wealthy family in the shipping industry. From The Cupcake standard we know that something happened that made Greg quit driving for Rhonda. And naturally that piqued my interest.
We find out in this story everything that went down and how a lot of Greg and Rhonda's past traumas carried forward and actually created these lenses or cognitive bias, which essentially created a decade of misunderstanding between the two of them. Rhonda ends up accompanying Greg to his sister's wedding in the UP of Michigan, during the holidays. Rhonda ends up a lot more involved in this wedding than merely being a guest. Which ends up being great for her as it helps her answer some pretty big questions that she's been asking herself since breaking up with her ex DB, that you may remember from book 1.
This trip ends up breaking through a ton of barriers these two have put up to protect themselves and helps them to see what it is that they really want out of their lives. Rhonda has pined for Greg for so long and Greg has tried for so long to stay away- The " I can't sleep with my employer's daughter routine"- that his determination is floundering with each moment they are together and with each secret they share. This plot is definitely character growth oriented, and I am a sucker for those!
I normally do not love miscommunication, but there was enough of a mystery that it kept me completely engulfed in the story and unable to put it down. I will say, the one thing I would have liked to see wrapped up is Greg's issues with his dad, as it was brought up. But I digress, I know this story is about him and Rhonda. I am just a nosy reader and want all the details.
I loved that no matter how upset Greg was with Rhonda he still always wanted what was best for her! And I loved how fierce Rhonda is, in all things she does. You get little spotlights of the characters we met in book 1 too, which was a nice refresher!
Overall if you like, lots of tension, Opposites Attract, Long time friends to enemies to lovers, one bed/snowed in I think you will really enjoy this book! Thank You Maren for letting me ARC read this, it truly was a privilege.
Rhonda wasn't my favorite person in the first book, but she grew on me. Over time, her character flaws showed the complexity of her past trauma. I can lay the blame for her inability to communicate and regulate her emotions properly at the feet of her negligent, albeit wealthy, parents. Their failure set her up for failure. Especially when it comes to relationships.
All she wants is to be loved, and that shows in how she presents herself to the world. As perfect, poised, and put-together. But the reality is...she's a mess.
And Greg, her family's chauffeur and long-time crush, sees all of it. Better yet, he loves her for it.
My biggest problem with these two was they couldn't go five minutes without a misunderstanding/miscommunication. *sigh*
The Jellybean Dilemma is a low-stakes, tropetastic rom-com with simmering sexual tension. I enjoyed watching Rhonda and Greg grow and find their HEA. Maren Jenner does it again, giving me all the feels over these lovesick fools.
I can't wait for the next book to see how bad Liam screws up!
The Jellybean Dilemma by Maren Jenner is more than a sweet romance, it tells a love story of two people who have some major insecurities that neither person sees and all paths lead them straight back to each other in the end, home. This is the second installment of the Sweet Nothings series and you can read as a standalone but it’s more fun with the backstories of these amazing characters!
Rhonda Elgin is an heiress to a shipping company and she’s in love with her chauffeur and friend Greg Peterson. When he invites her to be his date to his sisters wedding as his girlfriend, she jumps at the chance.
These characters were in the first book and just continued to develop in this one. I loved the flaws the characters had, I love the storyline and the twists that were thrown in! There were some appearances by a few of the other characters which I also loved as it continued their story.
I recommend this book for billionaire romance, boss’ daughter, forced proximity, found family and HEA. There are a few trigger warnings: attempted sexual assault, claustrophobia, and panic attacks.
After reading book 1 of the Sweet Nothings series, The Cupcake Standard, I was excited to dive into book 2. Rhonda and Greg's connection was teased slightly in the first book, and Avery's curiosity about how Rhonda and Greg were awkward around each other piqued my interest.
In Book 1, we see Rhonda as a superficial socialite who constantly overshadows her twin brother, Derek. At the beginning of Book 2, we see that Rhonda has grown and shed the trappings of her shallow life, and she's been in a rut and very reserved. She doesn't wish to return to how things were with her ex-fiancé and former friends, but she's unsure what her next steps should be. She has pined after him for years since he was her chauffeur when she was younger. We learn that she made a play for him a few years ago, and he rebuffed her, and after that, he went to work for her brother.
Greg has been pretty reserved about his life, so they do not know much about him despite being in Rhonda and Derek's life since their teenage years. At the end of Book 1, Greg returns to being Rhonda's driver, and after he drives her home from an event, she asks him about his holiday plans. He mentions his younger sister's New Year's Eve wedding and how he had yet to decide whether he was attending. Rhonda volunteers to be his plus one, secretly hoping to reconnect with him.
Throughout the novel, there are several incidents of Rhonda and Greg judging and misunderstanding each other, which kinda made me want to smack them lol. The romantic tension between them is evident from the beginning of the book. We slowly learn about Greg's insecurities and boundaries that caused him to rebuff Rhonda all those years ago.
Rhonda has kept many parts of herself secret from her friends and family, especially her claustrophobia and the harassment by her ex-fiancé. She did not want to show her weaknesses to the world, so she avoided revealing those things. Greg takes care of her after several of her panic attacks, and he encourages her to get help. Rhonda slowly learns that she has to share her burdens, and with Greg's support, she tells her friends and her brother about what's been going on with her.
We also learn that her parents are incredibly elitist because they refuse to accept that Rhonda is in a relationship with Greg. I don't want to spoil the plot, so I'll stop my recap.
I liked The Jellybean Dilemma better than The Cupcake Standard. Rhonda and Greg's connection is heartwarming. Seeing Rhonda open up about her trauma and learn why she had difficulty relating to her brother and friends helped endear her character.
Thank you to Maren Jenner for the ARC copy; this is my honest review.
Another great story!! Uuugh though the miscommunication Rhonda and Greg had throughout the story was so frustrating. They’ve both been head over heels for each other for so long, but couldn’t believe that their feelings were genuinely returned. Them going to his sisters wedding was the best thing for them honestly. So many feelings were brought to light, they COMMUNICATED and were able to come to terms with how they felt for each other granted they had some hurdles before they got there. When he started getting more forward about his feelings I swear I was swooning myself, our man Greg really knows how to lay it on thick when he wants 😮💨 their alone time getting everything ready for the wedding was so SWEET and I wanted more scenes of them going out to spend time together. I’m so excited they were able to get through their hurdles and finally be together!! I am so EXCITED to see where Gina and Liam’s story lead them! I back that relationship so much!! Sorry not sorry Josh 😬

Thank you so much to the author for this arc! It was a fabulous read-- I enjoyed her first book, and this one was even better! I read it in one sitting (I stayed up late because I HAD to finish it).
The Jellybean Dilemma struck a great balance between swoony, steamy, and sweet. Once again, the author took a trope I thought was just oaky (age-gap romance) and made me LOVE it. It was so well done. The pining between these friends to lovers captured my heart- Greg is the perfect MMC to swoon over (so damn sweet), and Rhonda's fears and anxieties were so relatable- I adored her as a FMC.
Lastly, that chocolate scene... WHEW. Excuse me while I fan myself.
If you enjoy the friends to lovers trope, want a great winter read, or want to dip your foot into the age-gap trope, I absolutely recommend this book!
Thank you, Maren, for sending me an ARC for a review!
I really enjoy Maren's writing style. It's very comfy, cozy, and easy. Her romances are sweet and easy to get lost in. For some reason, this one didn't hit it for me like The Cupcake Standard did.
I think some of it was the lack of communication between the two main characters constantly causing the same issues. It made the FMC seem a bit immature and the MMC kind of...dumb? I don't know. I just didn't find myself as into this one as I have been for others. It was still a good book overall and would still recommend the books from this author to others.
Tropes: Forbidden Romance Second Chance-ish Fake Dating Slowburn Miscommunication
After the first book, I was anxious and excited to read what the story was between Rhonda and Greg. Since breaking up with her fiancé, Rhonda has changed so much. She is closer to her brother and has made some new friends. Greg, after being Derek’s driver, has now switched back to driving for Rhonda. When he mentions his sister’s wedding, Rhonda offers to go with him. There are a lot of misunderstandings and judgements between the two of them. But Greg seems to be able to get her to open up. He also came to realize a few things about her feelings for him. These two are so great together! I loved their story!
I had been waiting for the story of Grey and Rhonda, and this did not disappoint. I loved it. Was already intrigued with these two characters, and how they finally came together.....was perfect.
Rhonda has recently split from her fiancé, and Greg has become her driver once again. There is alot of mystery surrounding Greg, and we see his layers slowly become stripped after Rhonda, wanting to escape the tedium of her life, offers to accompany Greg to his sisters wedding. Seeing Greg in his hometown, with his family, starts to ignite the flame. Of course, there is some hesitancy, and lack of self, and we these two spiral at times, and it takes something catastrophic to see them face what has been there all along.
And the use of "JellyBean" and "Just Greg", this had all the feels. It was beautifully written and the buildup spicy moments were just perfect.
This is the second book in the Sweet Nothings series and is the story of Rhonda and Greg. Greg has been a chauffeur for Rhonda's family for many years but circumstances have just thrust them back together. Rhonda has pined after Greg but has never been sure if he returned the feelings. A New Year's Eve wedding, an accident leading to a snowed in stay at a cabin, and time alone with Greg gives Rhonda the perfect chance to see what's truly behind his unreadable exterior. Will she finally find love that lives up to the cupcake standard her brother set? Read to discover what exactly the jellybean dilemma is.
I am so happy this was my first book of 2024. I hope this great read sets the standard for a wonderful year of books. I loved The Cupcake Standard so much but I may love this one even more. It has just the right amount of drama, spice but my favorite parts are the relationships & friendships. I love Greg was loyal before Rhonda even admitted her feelings. They molded so well together. I hope my prediction for this series continues & we get all the happily ever afters. Thank you Maren, for sharing your creations with us.
Greg is a man of few words and fewer emotions. He is a professional at his job and he likes it that way. Insert chaos Rhonda. Well she’s chaos around him since she gets flustered around him. Pining can do that to a girl. Miscommunication and tiptoeing around issues can cause that too which they do a lot of with each other. Rhonda ends up needing her brother and friends more than ever when she has to deal with some past issues. Greg is there for her every step of the way. This book is best read in order after book 1 in the series as the plot and characters makes more sense if you do so.
I received this book as an ARC and absolutely loved it!! Rhonda and Greg's storyline is phenomenal!!!! Seeing every character's development in the progression after the first book just made so many things click. I went through so many emotions while reading, it hit every mark for being a 5-star book for me. If a third book comes out I hope for Liam and Gina's story. That would just complete the whole series and fit all of the pieces together perfectly!
What could be better than a fake-dating, snowed in romance? Add in a jealous ex and a thrilling conclusion, and that's The Jellybean Dilemma! Greg is a book boyfriend to swoon over, and their journey together, though over a short period of time, reaches all the way back to their mutual pining since they first met. A great follow up to the first of the series--if you like contemporary romance with a dose of spice, this is your book!
I thought Maren Jenner won my heart with the cupcake standard, but I've fallen harder for this series with book 2. Pacing is great, characters are relatable and heartfelt. It's almost as if you are experiencing the story and emotions with them. In this story, we follow reborn and forever changed Rhonda, as she delves into her romantic interest and story. Get ready to laugh, cry, blush, and much more!
Well, what a way to continue after the Cupcake Standard!! This book was even better. I love Just Greg and Rhonda’s story. The romantic tension between the two of them if evident from the beginning of the book.
The way Maren Jenner writes her character development is just sublime and I cannot wait to read her next book.
I received an Arc of this book all reviews are my own honest opinion!
The Jellybean Dilemma was such a satisfying friends-to-lovers read. Watching Rhonda and Greg finally confront the feelings they’ve been avoiding since The Cupcake Standard was both frustrating and rewarding in the best way. Their history adds real emotional weight, and I loved seeing Rhonda grow into herself while Greg opens up about his past. Yes, there’s some classic miscommunication, but the payoff is worth it. Cozy, heartfelt, and full of charm — a great continuation of the Sweet Nothings series.
This was such cute story. I loved to hear about Greg and Rhondas relationship. I literally devoured this hook so fast. The heat in the story… Huge thanks to the author for giving me this book as an arc.
Loved this book. I did not read the first one but this book was such a good read. Rhonda is a socialite that breaks up with her fiancé and wants to be with her driver. She goes to his sister’s wedding and that is where there become close and become a couple. Such a good read.
A great follow-up to the first book in the Sweet Nothings series! This is a perfect winter romance read - snowed in vibes with a red-hot MMC! The glimpses of Avery and Derek (from book one) were just perfect as well and if you haven’t read their story yet, highly recommend you check it out!
So have to say absolutely loved this book continuing on with characters that appeared in book one so to finally see them blossom in their own book plus the way they finally realise that they are meant to be together was beautifully well written
she did not disappoint with this one either. she is becoming a favorite author of mine with her writing style. this book has forced proximity age gap and was just amazing. the spoiled heiress and her chauffer . whats not to love def recommend and look forward to her third one
Not quite a second chance romance but in a way it was. Greg is everything you wouldn't expect. Rhonda has fallen for the chauffeur but doesn't know his whole story. He's the one who finds out her secrets and protects her. When they are caught in a snowstorm, they see each other for who they really are and it's everything!
I fell in love with these characters! I liked this one even more than the first. I found these characters and their relationship more intriguing. Also, love the setting in the UP Michigan! A book I truly didn’t put down because it was so enjoyable.
I absolutely couldn’t get enough of Rhonda and Greg! I really enjoyed how the characters were able To prove the stereotypes they had about each other wrong!!’ I definitely have enjoyed this series!
Waiting for the next one. Another perfect book that I just couldn't put down. This author know exactly how to keep you interested in the book the entire time!
