Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo #2

Mystical Midlife Mate

Rate this book
Magical.
Middle-aged.
And now I’m a monster. What else could go wrong?

Hoodoo, Texas, a town overflowing with vampires, root workers, werewolves, and… me. Folks may tolerate my Thor hand, the daily chats with spirits, and general crankiness. But last night’s monstrous makeover might finally be a step too far.

My new boyfriend is sexy as sin, keeping more secrets than a politician, and is moving his non-human behind into my haunted Victorian mansion. Of course, he blames the new living arrangement on someone wanting me dead—again.

What can I say? It’s a gift.

When my estranged father comes to town, things get dicier. He’s not only a deadbeat but a freaking storm deity who prefers revenge over a loving reunion. And get this - he issued the mother of ultimatums: either I murder my boyfriend or Hoodoo, Texas will be destroyed.

Agau may be a god, but he’s not the boss of me.

Can a menopausal monster save a small town from destruction without losing the sexy boyfriend and the re-vamped love of her family and friends? Find out in Mystical Midlife Mate. Fans of Darynda Jones, Patricia Briggs, and K.F. Breene will love the Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo series.

Mystical Midlife Mate another amazing and magical story by Reggi and is book 2 in the Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo duo. Reggi’s imagination and writing skills make it easy to enjoy. Did I mention I love fun, quirky and crazy, mix in some paranormal and I’m in heaven.
Reggie has skilfully woven a fun tale you do not want to put down. I was laughing constantly at the goings on of the colourful characters. It’s so easy to get lost in this crazy world of adventure, drama, action, banter and mayhem where midlife will never look the same again.
Our MC is older than the norm and has had real life experience which I really enjoyed. Well as normal and real for this unconventional and intractable town.
Hoodoo is the place to be. A place where the unusual mix of crazy and quirky misfits reside. It is a place where ghostly servants, uncontrollable relations, witches, cantankerous vampires, vindictive ex’s, werewolves, magic, demons, gods and anything goes is the norm.
I am looking forward to seeing where Reggie takes us next.
Fans of the Paranormal Women's Fiction club (aka The Fab13) will love this book.
You will need to grab these books to find out what happens because the craziness needs to be discovered without preconceived notions.

Outstanding ending!

This series was a love/hate relationship. I was confused half the time, disgusted with the main characters three-quarters of the time, and afraid I was going to be left hanging at the end of the book. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. No cliffhanger ending. My questions were answered, and the main characters made it onto my “MC’s I love and want to visit again” list. And all is right with the world.

The ending had a few twisted surprises that made me cry, smile, and laugh.

I recommend this series but strongly advise you to read each book in order and wait until the end of the third book to make your final decision about its appeal.

This is the second book in the Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo series. I do highly recommend reading these books in order as this book picks up where the first book ended. This is an fast paced, engaging, Paranormal story filled with action, murder, mystery, fated mates and a whole lot more.
The characters that this author has created in what really brings the story to life for me. They are larger than life and literally jump off the page. Our main character Gwen is incrediable. She is funny and sassy and knows her own mind and isn't afraid to speak it which sometimes gets her into worse trouble. Her attitude and banter with the other characters is what really makes me want to jump in and be a part of her circle of friends.
Things for Gwyn just keep getting more and more complicated. Not only can she see ghosts, lives with vampires and is approaching middle age and menopause she has now become a demon (full story in the first book) with this new addition to the problems she faces as well as magic from her father appearing Gwyn certainly has her hands full.
Add to this a smoking hot boyfriend who claims to be her fated mate whether she likes it or not and the fact he moves himself into her home to protect her from another threat that wants her dead her head is in a complete spin.

But that's not all with her father's return this brings up a whole load of questions mainly who can she actually trust? With everyone keeping secrets and hiding things can she trust anyone close to her anymore?

I loves how the author mixes the paranormal elements with something ordinary like a woman going through the menopause and the added complications and feelings that brings and the magical elements which had me hanging onto my seat wanting to stop the ride but unable to tear myself away until the end.
Amazing story, amazing characters. I loved it

Reggi Dupree is a very talented author with her quirky, snarky, and entertaining characters that just pull you head first into these fun paranormal adventures! She and Daryanda Jones both have a very similar writing style that I truly love, making them two of my favorite authors. If you love funny humor and down-to-earth characters that just speak their minds, then you should definitely check this series out.

Mystical Midlife Mate is a paranormal women's fiction novel and the second book in the Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo Series. PWF are books that have main characters that tend to be a tad older, who've experienced life and learned to ignore the haters as they are okay being their authentic selves.

Gwen Carter, our main character, is nothing short of a firecracker who is currently struggling with her new-found powers and doesn't need anymore to deal with. Unfortunately, her struggles are only going to get harder as her long lost dad shows up telling her what he expects her to do if she wants to keep her precious town of Hoodoo safe. And if you think that dilemma is bad enough, then you will be completely shocked to find out that Ash, Gwen's hot, rich, smart, powerful boyfriend, may not be all he's cracked up to be. Gwen meets her long lost relatives who have a sorted history with Ash, which makes her question him and their relationship. What is going to happen to Hoodoo, to Ash and Gwen, and will Gwen ever be able to catch a break? If you haven't already, you should check out this amazing series. I am in love with this town and these people and can't wait to read more!

Mystical Midlife Mate is the second instalment in the Boudin, Bourbon, and Barbecue series by Reggi Dupree. It is a zany, fun, paranormal mystery with murder, crime & investigation, action, adventure, magic, mayhem, banter, antics, colourful quirky characters, supernatural elements, agendas, family dynamics, friendship, romance, drama, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, demons, gods, and more.
I really loved the first book in this series, and love Ms. Dupree’s writing style and how original this paranormal mystery series is- so there was no way I was going to miss out on reading this second book.
This is a wonderful addition to the series, and I enjoyed every minute- I think it’s even better than the first book. It’s a zany, crazy, fun story- with extremely colourful and quirky characters who really brought the whole story to life. I love Gwyn Carter and her cheeky, sassy ways. Ms. Dupree also mixed in just the right amount of mystery, drama, and intrigue that kept me flipping the pages to follow along and find out what happens. But it’s definitely the characters who make this story, it really wouldn’t be the same without them. I think they would be perfect on-screen characters too, and can see that already in my mind- ‘Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo’ needs to be made into a television series, it would be fantastic.
Looking forward to the next instalment!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Reggi Dupree!

Mystical Midlife Mate is Book Two in the Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo series. If you have not yet read the first book in this series, I highly recommend that you do because it carries on with the zany adventures of the characters we met in book one. Gwen is back and has undergone a few transformations that do not sit well with her. Now on top of her already weird life she has transformed into a demon complete with wings, talons, and even fangs. As if that is not bad enough Gwen is suffering a midlife crisis complete with hot flashes and mood swings that make her less than pleasant to be around at the best of times. Enter Ash, the immortal Prince of Hell who has claimed Gwen as his soulmate and protector of her family. He has more than a few secrets that he guards closely regarding his relationship to Gwen’s family. When Gwen is reunited with some of her family, she learns some of those secrets and begins to have doubts about Ash. I loved the character of Gwen and how fierce, strong-willed, and feisty she was. Ash was a character that you love to hate as he comes across as all bad boy who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. This was another amazing book by this author that was full of drama, action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, magic, vampires, demons, ghosts, and witty banter. I highly Recommend this book!

Mystical Midlife Mate, #2 - My heart is broken, I lost my copy of Return to Hoodoo through the means of another. BUT, I enjoyed Mystical immensely, even not knowing what happened before when a snippet from Return would rear its head. I could not put this book down. I love Ms. Dupree and her world.

The action, the surprises, the wacky characters, the Texan dialog and colloquialism, and the suspense of when are they gonna do that thang. Mainly, I love that Gwen embraces her fate and does not whine, but pulls her boots up and her big girl panties on and finishes that open can of whoop@. Source: StoryOrigin. 15 Stars.

Hoodoo Heaven - I laughed myself silly reading this story filled with old references, Texas colloquialisms, Attitude, and good story lines. I thought the story would be set in TX, but Ireland and Morocco are where the story begins.

The main characters are a trip; Gwen rules. A relaxing read filled with humor, paranormals, and intrigue. The last chapter is pretty cool and could be construed a cliffhanger, but it is s setting up the next book. I enjoyed and agreed with the author's personal note after the book. Source: The author. 5*

Fabulous second part of the story. I absolutely love this author. The way she can make me laugh and yell “way to go” in my head.

Gwen Carter has so much depth, sass, sarcasm and a kick butt attitude, you can’t help but want to be her friend.

Gwen Carter has to come to terms with what happened in the last story. It is not an easy pill to swallow. Now she is a demon and now her “fathers” powers are manifesting as well. What is a 40 something woman to do? She will need to get control over these new powers if she wants to survive and her mate as well.

Ash is her mate whether she likes it or not. She struggles to believe she will ever be able to trust anyone ever again as the list of people breaking her trust is getting longer and longer. Life is never going to be the same. Time to face her fears and stand her ground.

If you love books with great plot twists and are filled with magic, demons, gods and mystery, then is an author you MUST put on your TBR list. Even Medusa comes out to play. Fingers crossed there is a book 3. Please Please.

Gwyn is back and better than ever in her hometown of Hoodoo, Texas. She has moved home, rebuilt relationships with her family and friends, has a super hot boyfriend who's moving in with her, turned into demon in the last story and her menopause is really turning her into a monster.

In the midst of dealing with Ash being her mate and now moving in, no matter what her feelings are - dealing with newly manifesting powers - settling back in in Hoodoo - dealing with menopause - and the entire wacky cast of characters, her father arrives. Like she didn't have enough chaos in her life!

The writing is constantly fun and makes me laugh out loud. The assorted kooky cast offers so much enjoyment and the world building is outstanding. I love having a heroine that is not 20, doing everything perfect and having an earth shattering romance with a billionaire to help her along. Gwen bumbles, swears, trips...and kicks butt all along the way. She feels like a friend. I sincerely hope these don't stop at book 2!

What an incredible book in this series, I really enjoyed the first book quite a bit and so this was like icing on the cake. But be advised that reading book 1 is highly recommended before jumping into this one. Once again, this book made you feel like you were right there with everyone experiencing this whole adventure. The way the world build out the world in my mind made me really feel like I was right there with everyone. I really enjoy Gwyn she’s a super strong-willed woman that doesn’t take crap from no one, I enjoy that this book is more aged with women that even thou at this age they should have their life together that sometimes it doesn’t. outspoken, swears, falls, kicks butt and is just downright real. This book is filled with everything supernatural, laughs, adventure, normal problems of life, entertaining, I absolutely loved this book in more then one way, due to the fact it’s almost related able with what life would be like if some how right now there really are supernatural begins out there.

This is an interesting read. The author has created a world full of magic, mayhem and strong characters. I like Gwen and the strength that she has, she is certainly not a damsel in distress. It was fun to see so many different paranormal creatures in this town. Not only does the main character have a lot to say but the supporting characters make themselves known as well and do not just fade into the background. Gwen is dealing with a lot and she must find a way to save everyone and everything dear to her. This story is fast paced and has some twists and turns that you may not see coming. The author has mixed a good amount of humor into the story as well giving readers a creative world full of memorable characters. I enjoyed seeing a strong older woman as the main character and not some young girl just finding her way. The author writes a strong story that brings you into the world and I am wondering what will happen next.

Reggie Dupree has out done herself. Mystical midlife mate is fill with all the characters you fell in love with in Return to Hoodoo (minus a witch that shall not be named) plus way more. While Gwen struggles with her new found powers her father makes his grand entrance . We find out more about Ash's past and his closeness (or rather his lack of) with Gwen's family . Gwen is reunited with those relatives, they shine a light on her past that has her questioning Ash.
Dupree is one of my favorite authors so I might be bias, but her writing is so entertaining. Gwen's wit to her humble downfalls make her such a relatable character even with her being the descendent of a fallen angel. Plus Dupree brings in a dose Greek mythology and biblical characters, putting them into a more modern setting. If you haven't given the Hoodoo books a read you should. You'll be entranced!

Arrrrrgh!

I wanted to love this book like i loved the intro novella and the first book. I'd reread both more than once.

(Spoilers for book one)
But she chose the abusive jerk. She chose the guy who admitted to murdering people just because they dared to have sex with her. He stalked her. He constantly ignored consent. He has major jealousy issues. With things revealed in this book, Ash hits every red flag for an abusive partner.

The supposedly intelligent, outspoken, freewheeling, woman choose the abuse over being single.

That's a pretty shirty message to send.

Is the book fabulously written? Absolutely. Does it have amazing characters and laugh outloud moments? You betcha. But the big bad from book one is hand waved away and she chooses the abuser.

A Hoodoo Texas Novel
Review by: Susan Ratchford
5 Stars

I can’t get enough of this series! I hope there are many more books to come! In a weird way it reminds me of my hometown, well without the supernatural aspects! Reggi Dupree got it oh so perfectly right, definitely my newest favorite author! After reading book one it was so easy to fall right back into Hoodoo! I utterly enjoy the humor and wonderful characters she creates. Her characters are relatable, entertaining, and unpredictable in the best ways! I definitely laughed a lot and went on such a fun adventure with Gwen and the rest of Hoodoo Texas! I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who wants a fun and quirky read that you will never forget!

This was a brilliant addition to this series and was just as fun, entertaining and well written as the first. I was pulled into this story straight away and loved the way the author created this story. The author has created a mix of characters that are unique, refreshing to read about and all complement each other so well. They fit with the type of story being told and what I imagine it to look like.
This is still a very new author to me, but if this series is any indication of the work they produce then I can definitely say I am a fan. The book is engaging and interesting and has such a fun way of approaching a crowded genre. This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is the second book in this series which is just as great as the first. I highly suggest reading the previous book as well. I found this book to be well written and engaging. A story that is full of magic and fun characters. The characters are creative and entertaining. I enjoyed how they pulled me into their world from the start. This is an engaging story about a menopausal monster trying to save a small town and keep her boyfriend in the process? I really enjoyed this story. There is great growth throughout and is easy to read. A fast paced, hard to put down story. I highly recommend it.

This was a great second book in the series! I really enjoy this author's writing style and the way her characters have so much sass. I definitely suggest reading the first book before jumping into this one. The characters pull you straight in just like the previous book and jump right into the story. Gwen is just as great in this story as the first. After how the first book ended I was excited to jump into this when it came out. Things get crazy in this one and there are some great plot twists. I really hope we get more stories from Hoodoo! I will be on the lookout for more from this author for sure.

I loved the 1st book so much I couldn't wait for the 2nd one, & it came to me just in time for spooky season! I wish there was more to this story & these characters. I would happily have read a much longer book just to have more lol Reggi Dupree's writing is phenomenal in so many ways, & they have so much talent for creating such different characters. I loved Gwen in the 1st book but had a hard time liking her in this one because of the way she was handling certain situations, but her character growth & development really came through & I ended up being proud of her. & Ash ! omgoodness Ash ! I'm lucky he's fictional lol this whole story is a wild ride I'm happy I went on.

This is the second book in the Hoodoo Texas Novel series. Reggie Dupree did not disappoint! Gwen must navigate finding out she was a demon, a mating bound, and her biological dad coming to pay her a visit. There are so many great parts in this story that my head was left spinning, much like Gwen. Again, Gwen’s kick ass humor brings a smile to my face. The ending felt a touch rushed but it did wrap up with the potential to another book in the series. There are many parts in the book that I felt empowered as women, which is a nice touch. I highly recommend it if you love romance, small towns, southern hospitality, and magic.

Beautifully written, exciting, spellbinding story with compelling characters and fascinating stories. Gwen is saved from death by Asmodeus Demon Prince and surprise 😳 her mate, he will do anything to protect Gwen. Agau God of storms and the kind of father no one would ever want has found Gwen, his daughter and demands she kill her mate or Agau with kill all her family and the entire town. He killed an innocent woman to prove his threat. This is a heart pounding story of love, betrayal, secrets, found family and victory against terrible odds. I loved 🥰 everything about this story and can’t wait to read more.

Reggi Dupree is my new favorite author. I can totally relate to the main character. Reggi does an excellent job of building characters that you can love, hate, or both. The world she creates is so believable, it makes you want to visit Hoodoo just to see if you can spot some of the supernatural shenanigans that may be going on there. I sincerely laughed out loud in some parts of the book, and cried at others. Reggi takes you on an adventure where you can’t wait to see what will happen next. I literally devoured this book. I can’t wait to read more from this author!

A fantastic book 2 in the series. I am much more comfortable here than I was in book 1. I would advise anyone to read book 1 and the novella before heading to HooDoo #2. The author has created a world that readers of this genre are goingt to love. Written in a sassy, cheeky voice, the main character, Gwen Carter is that woman (now enhanced? kinda?) that speaks her mind and stands her ground and I'm loving her and this world. It's an easy exciting read you will never regret picking up.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion of the tale.

Wow just wow is all I can say. I love paranormal romance books and this definitely filled that love. I really like how the author is able to bring the characters to life and bring the story alive. I really like the bits of drama entwined into the story. I really found myself drawn into this series and this being the second book in the series really did not disappoint. I like the chemistry between the characters and how the story really flows on from the first. I really could not put this book down and so look forward to reading the next in this series and more from this author.

I was delighted to get to read book 2 in this magical and engaging series. Gwen is such a wonderful and relatable character full of sass. I love that she isn’t one to back down and she isn’t going to be pushed around. I would absolutely recommend checking out book 1 before you dive into this paranormal sequel. The story is full of well written and entertaining characters that you will love, hate, and everything in-between. The author has created a wonderful world full of relatable characters, romance, gods, magic, demons, mystery, twists and turns, and a whole lot of fun!

The is book 2 of 2 in the Boudin, Barbecue, and Hoodoo series by Reggi Dupree and she did not disappoint. I absolutely loved the first one (and you need to go read it before you pick this one up) and all of the characters are back at it again (well…for the most part) but some have newfound powers and others are coming to terms with things. I absolutely love Dupree's character development and her plot line is action packed! I would classify this as a paranormal mystery but there is plenty of humor and wit to lighten it up. Definitely give this book a go!

Another Great Book

Oh my. Just when things should be calming down and Gwen can figure this relationship thing going on with Ash, more crap on a stick happens. Gwen's biological father comes to town making big threats. Gwen also meets other long lost relatives. And her current relatives are acting up around all the hot demons hanging around bodyguarding Gwen and Ash. I loved all 3 books. The storylines are interesting, the action and suspense good, but it is the relationships and personalities that kept me coming back for more.

Much the same like the other two works in this series. I like the characters and the writing style of the author. But the story is disjointed and feels like a description of a bunch of random events rather than a cohesive plot that moves the story along. What seem to be big story moments fall flat. Took a star off on this book because there were noticeable writing errors such as missing words, misused words, words out of order, and missing punctuation. There were enough of these that some gave me pause and I had to reread sentences for context.

5 out of 5 stars

Reggie Dupree has created one of my favorite series. I'm obsessed with the characters and their stories. The main character is such a strong wonderful woman and so relatable. The fun way the character handles all the nonsense that happens to her is so amazing. I highly recommend all the books from this series.

Ever since I finished the first book in this series, I’ve been anxiously waiting for this one. It did not disappoint. Side note: You really need to read the first book before this one to have the complete backstory.
The characters are amazing and well-written with a lot of depth. The world building is stellar. There’s humor, suspense, danger, drama… everything you’d want to keep you turning the pages.
Definitely a must read!
