In a dimly lit world of dueling pianos and secrets, one that renders her voice silent, Susu is coaxed from the darkness by three men, harboring secrets of their own.
In the silence,
They are drawn to her, a deep need to hear the sound of her words. Once they’ve earned her trust, they begin to chip away at the walls she’s built around herself. She not only speaks; they manage to make her sing for them.
We hear you
What happens when the trust they have only goes so far, and in a hasty moment of judgment, they push her back into her self-imposed silence, leaving her heart broken and exposed to a threat they never saw coming?
This book has 610 pages and I flew thru it in a day. It wasn’t perfect but I really enjoyed it anyway. Theo was freaking everything and I low key wanted her to only end up with him tbh. I did really like Vance and Chester but if I reread this book in the future it will be because of Theo and him alone 😍
I wanted to shake Susu a few times but I felt so bad for her, I didn’t really feel like her mutism was explained very well though. She was bullied at school and by the town and her grandfather but what exactly caused her to stop talking and when did it happen exactly? Also she wasn’t a virgin and had been with 2 people, so I would have liked some more history on her and how she was able to get that far with 2 people if she didn’t talk. I understand it was selective mutism but still.
I also would have liked to see Vance introducing Susu to his parents and seeing their reaction to the relationship since they were so stuck up. But I’m just happy Susu got a HEA she really deserved it.
-Multi PoV -Age gap h23, H’s were 31, 35, 35 -mute fmc, fmc on the run, boss/employee -why choose with no mm, 1 fmc 3 mmcs and my fav kind where she’s the first woman they’ve shared. -no owd/omd -HEA

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t bad either. It could’ve been way more emotionally appealing if those ridiculous time jumps weren’t there—like one second they’re talking, and the next chapter there’s a week-long skip. It totally ruined the bond-building moments. They also caught feelings way too fast, which is always a major turn-off for me. The angst, tension, and slow burn were just so-so. Overall though, it was a good read
It was okay. The story had its moments. Nothing to write home about. Susu was a mediocre heroine. There were a lot of choices and comments she made that I did not like. I was afraid she was going to put a wedge between the male friends. She was a bit selfish.
After reading and enjoying other works by the author, I knew this would be full of the emotions and angst I was craving. In that respect, it didn't disappoint for me. I loved how the author wrote the FMC, she felt well balanced to me and it was nice to see her grow and develop as her relationships did. I did struggle to connect with Vance, it took a while to warm up to him as he was very self absorbed. He is still not a favourite, but I can appreciate him a bit more. I loved Theo from the get go, and whilst I loved the texting between the two of them...it would have been nice for them to get to know each other a little more rather than it keep getting dirty (even though I loved those messages too). I wasn't sure about Chester at first, but I started really looking forward to the car ride scenes and now wish he would and drive me to work every day! Please? I think what I really love about the author, is that their works just feel like such a good balance of plot, romance, angst and spice rolled into one. So the part I was most unsure about was "him".
Not your traditional whychoose romance. I loved everything about Muted. From the non verbal FMC to all three of the very different guys. To the entire plot to get to the HEA at the end. S. E. Green did a amazing job with Muted!
While the guys work together and two may be friends they don’t “fall” right into acceptance of all being together. The plot carries the story (I love that in a book) not to say that we don’t have lots of spice because we do and after that slow burn it is hot 🔥🫠 when they get there.
Susu is trying to hide from her past and starts over somewhere new. When she starts her new job she never would have expected to meet four men Chester, Vance, Theo and Clifford all play a roll in her story but only three of them want to help and protect her while the other is out to destroy her.
Muted is the fifth book of the Dissonance series and is a standalone. This book had me hooked from the prologue! I was very invested in Susu’s story and couldn’t put it down. This poor woman hasn’t had an easy life but she is strong as heck to survive through it all. I wasn’t too sure what to think of the guys at first. But they slowly grew on me. Theo is definitely my favorite and I love his and Susu’s text message conversations. I really liked the fact that the guys had to learn to work together and figure out the relationship and to get over their jealousy of each other. This book was a full blown emotional roller coaster and deals with some heavy topics. So please check trigger warnings before reading this!
it took my breath away. You have done it again my dear. This was definitely my most anticipated release (after laugh) of the year, and you have blown me away yet again.
Firstly yes it is a long book, but each chapter drew me in. Each chapter kept me going. EACH CHAPTER was a crucial piece of building the story needed. Did I want it to end? NO, Am I going to re-read this book, YES!
Susu - Even though silent, she was so loud in terms of a character (in a good way) - her growth throughout the book, the chemistry between the guys oh my..... Yes did she inspire my childhood pianist yes..
Vance - I will take a Vance - Romantic quiet broody, yes! Him and Susu's connection was powerful through the power of music (*cough Cough* Piano scene if you know you know)
Theo - From the Text message banter to him and the poetry - JEEPERS listen... That man can steal me away and read poetry to me any day. I will take up writing poetry to just to have him .. uhm... "read" it to me. Overall Theo was definitely my favourite character in the book.
Chester - Although he did do a fumble he redeemed himself yes he did. A little grovel and he definitely made up for it. He slowly brought her out of her shell. A good Strong character who I really enjoyed
Cliff can fly a kite - You know my feelings towards Cliff - Grrrrr.......
The plot of this book was well thought out and truly you have written another MASTERPIECE - I cannot wait for your next release.
SE Green’s stories just keep getting better!! Muted was a very emotional, spicy, intense ride and I loved every single second I spent devouring this page turner!
If you love: ✔️ broken FMCs on the run from their past ✔️ betrayal/miscommunication trope ✔️bawling your eyes out while reading This is the story for you!
The FMC is selectively mute due to past trauma and watching the guys various ways of reacting to and interacting with her was a real highlight to this story. Especially with the very different personalities of each of the men and how they played into the main plot of the story!
I genuinely cannot get enough of this authors work or this story!!
I love all the books in this series and while this book is more suspense and heart breaking than some of the others, I couldn’t put it down. I loved going on this adventure with Susanna while she tried to start her new life even though she couldn’t get past her anxiety to really speak to these men, somehow they all still fell for her. The mystery in general around her and then all the action in the last third of the book was engrossing - I had to know! I had to see it all play out. Vance was my favourite for sure and his devotion to her was exactly what she needed while she balanced everything with the other two. If you loved BREAK, you will love this one. All of these books are worth the chance, you won’t be disappointed!
I really enjoyed Susanna’s story. First of all, it was slightly different from anything previous. I liked how we get to know each of them as they each start to build something with Susu, and then as the story progresses the harem builds. The selective mutism was different and I liked that aspect a lot. Read this very quickly and didn’t really want to put it down.
Heat level: 5/5. My good dudes... this series is still going strong and I'm so happy I'm one of the first to read these stories. This one has a bit of a mystery/thriller element to it that had me asking who!? And for those who have a thing for musicians, there is piano sex. Enough said. If that's not enough there's DP and DVP. The spice in this mic dropped.
This book took me on a wide ride. The emotions of the characters were felt-left me hanging onto the words written. Susu, overcame her childhood trauma/adult trauma to become a stronger woman. I do not, find this book dark but some of content is dark, please check the trigger warnings before diving into this amazing book. 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Yet another fantastic book! The relationship between Susu and the guys gives a classic S.E. Green feel but the addition of Susu being mostly mute and why she is kind of adds an emotional depth to the relationships that’s different from her other books. If you give any book of hers a try, this one is 100% worth your time.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy of Muted in exchange for an honest review

I could barely put this down. The story grabs you from the first chapter.
I loved the guys, I loved their chemistry with Susanna and I adored their friendships.
Only thing I wanted was to see the look on Vance's parents face when they realised that he was in a polyamourous relationship 🤣
A spicy, emotional story about a woman who due to her violent history is muted. A surprising good story in the why coose genre. Make sure you read the tw’s before starting this book.
This was such a good read. Some parts really make your heart hurt, definitely pay attention to the trigger warnings. Susanna deserves all the happiness and the epilogues is what we all needed!
Wow. Just wow. I knew this one was going to be good and boy did it deliver.
Susa is muted due to trauma and she find a job where she meets her men. All that follows is beautifully traumatic and shows the organic growth of love and all its ups and downs.
I can’t believe I have to wait a year for the next one. I just don’t want to wait.
Probably should’ve known to stop reading when a 35 year old texted his 23 year old coworker, ‘What would you do if I walked up to you at work and kissed you’
a bit of a frustrating read for me, because i liked parts of it, but the parts i didn't like were the ones that really dominated the story. i DNF'ed once i realized i was only reading in case the story got better, and that i felt more frustration than enjoyment.
the relationship dynamics were really uncomfortable to me. the first one is just an age gap between coworkers. but even that was presented in such a creepy way, with the guy texting her and flirting, and then saying that he's too old for her, and then changing his mind. it was just such a classic run-of-the-mill creepy guy move, the whole "oh, you're 12 years younger than me... you're too young... or maybe not, because i want you too much 😏". like, im sorry, but if you legitimately feel weirded out by an age gap, then you're just not gonna act on any ill-advised feelings. or you're admitting that your own morals come second to lust.
and the second creepy relationship dynamic - boss and employee... these days i can only enjoy that trope when one or several of the following conditions are met: 1) it's a slow burn wherein the characters slowly develop deep feelings for each other, proving that the boss doesn't just pursue whatever employee he happens to feel attracted to 2) the employee character is especially strong-willed 3) they work in a big company where I'd imagine there's an HR department if things go wrong, lol. because at least in a big company there are protocols and procedures in place regarding these types of things. there's something incredibly predatory about a mid-thirties man with his own business who gets with his way younger, vulnerable employee. no matter their feelings for each other, at the end of the day he's directly in charge of her paycheck.
another frustrating element was the heroine's handling of an antagonist harassing and blackmailing her. i got tired of that storyline SO FAST. i wanted her to just tell someone so we could move on. instead we had to keep reading about that asshole. plotlines like that annoy me, because if the characters just communicated more openly it would all be resolved super fast.

SYNOPSIS - A mute woman on the run applies for a job in a dueling piano bar falling for 3 men who work there.
REVIEW - I came off Laugh going into this one and I already knew I needed to lower the bar a little bit because that book was perfect in every way. I liked this one well enough and if the bell curve wasn't skewed from the last book I may even rate it higher. Trying to be fair here though so here it goes...
What didn't work for me was some of the behaviors and also how little we really learned about each guy. I think the latter would have potentially solved the forward. Vance probably has the most depth of the 3 and it's almost a shame how we didn't really get to see him grow and flourish like we did Susu. His life is so cold and isolated. It's obvious that he finds purpose and warmth with his relationship with Susu and consequent friendship with the guys but we don't get to see it actually unfold. As as for Theo and Chester, we really just accept them as they are with very little background or depth. It also kind of rubbed me the wrong way with how Susu went about her relationships with the guys originally (although maybe I'm just weird) because she wasn't honest initially about pursuing more than one until it escalated and she was "caught". Also, her plan with Cliff to be "dumb" and get caught by Chester was truly terrible. She was surrounded by secrets and endangering them all by not warning them of the man who would clearly have no qualms causing them pain to hurt her.
As far as what I liked, I was gripped to the story throughout. I didn't want to put it down despite my above complaints and Susu's struggle was compelling. She had suffered a great deal and still remained a strong and fiery MC. It was easy for people to believe she was shy or timid with her mutism but it didn't limit her intelligence or appeal. I think a huge takeaway was not to judge a book by its cover.
Suzannah suffers tremendous trauma as a child, so she goes into the mentality of selective mutism (please read about it. This is not a light matter). She works as a book accountant and pianist at Chester's bar and develops a crush on the three guys working there. Susu (as they call her) has a dark secret, someone is after her. misunderstanding happens that leads to Susu being harmed. The guys grovel for a bit and all is well
I was feeling discomfort at the way Selective Mutism was handled. I personally worked with a student who had that and I had to read a lot on the matter and contact a therapist to know the correct way to approach such a student. I cannot tell you why this situation bothered me but something felt off.
Susu forgave Chester easily. I think we needed more work on the grovel. I liked that Susu is not that perfect character. She made a mistake and owned it, but it was a stupid mistake and it shouldn't have been done in the first place.
Though the book is over 500 pages, I still felt that it was rushed. but it was a good read

𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 It's no secret that I am absolutely in love with Green’s storytelling– she never fails to tackle the most difficult subject matter in ways that feel real and believable and this allows us, as readers, to connect on an even greater emotional level to these characters whether we can truly relate to their circumstance or not. This series has a way of flaying your heart open only to soothe away the pain and heal the wounds within those same pages. This latest installment does not disappoint in this.
Our story here finds Susu, Susanna, in a new town with a new job, new opportunities, and new threats. The beauty of this new life she's found could not be more at risk and the journey we are taken on because of it is nothing short of a mastepiece painted with beautiful, flawed characters that truly feel grounded in reality. Each of the male characters feels like someone I would meet, myself, which I find is lacking a lot in romance. It's the believability factor, once again, and still Green doesn't disappoint.
While this is a slow to medium burn, when the spice hits it really does burn. I highly suggest taking precautions. Symptoms of reading these scenes may include but are not limited to: one handed reading, flushing, fevers, quivers, daydreaming, and irrationally believing you can find a harem of your own.
I quickly fell in love with this series, and they get better as I moved through them. This is by far my favorite. There’s something so DEEP about someone who is selectively mute speak for the first time. It literally feels like a flutter in my chest because I crave that feeling in a book. Susanna was so snarky and shy at the same time, and I loved her so much. Theo was the knight in shining armor I was rooting for from the start. Vance was the calm to her storm and understood her silence the most, which I adored. And then Chester, the man could barely control his mood swings but his heart was in the right place. This was a thick story, but I feel like it gave you every tidbit of world building that was necessary to feel the emotions you needed to grasp the purpose behind the story. I thought it was a perfect blend of sweet and spicy, and the subplot was everything!!
🎼AM I MAD I FINISHED THIS BOOK?🎼 YES! 🎼DID THIS AMAZING AUTHOR WRITE ANOTHER OUTSTANDING BOOK🎼 YES! 🎼AM I MAD I MUST WAIT FOR ANOTHER BOOK?🎼 ABSOLUTELY 🥲🥲 🎶✨🎶✨🎶✨🎶✨🎶✨🎶✨🎶✨ S.E. Green truly outdid herself once again in book four of the dissonance series. She has a way of writing and expressing the feelings of her characters that manage to trap you into their stories. We meet my baby Susanna who has gone through a traumatic event that caused her to go mute. Her mutism is caused by her social anxiety. Throughout her story we see that she has a way with music that helps her connect with her men. Did I get mad with her men? ABSOLUTELY Did I want to punch you know who? ABSOLUTELY AND WITHOUT A DOUBT Did my baby Susanna claim my heart? A THOUSAND TIMES YES This was just an amazing book! Also this book reminded me of BREAK but damn these men 👀👀👀… Ps: Hate Cliff more than Anthony
I loved the relationships between the characters and how they developed, and they came across a bit different than your typical RH stereotypes (the goofy fun one, the serious broody one, the troubled one who takes forever to come around). I also loved that it was more of an exploration into the why choose element than an established unit of men.
What I didn’t like was the constant miscommunication trope. I get that with the FMC it has to exist to some extent, but Theo and Chester were so quick to chastise her for EVERYTHING and ask questions later.
I also felt the pacing was a bit off. I felt like this book was a very long one for a contemporary romance and yet I still wish some things had been explored more? (Her relationship with Miriam for example)I think I’d need to reread to pinpoint this.
Still a beautiful read and a solid 4 stars!

If you have read any of SE Greens' books you will know that her books never disappoint. As always this book was packed with character and world development and the crossover between her books are always little snippets that I love catching. The banter between Susu and Theo on text had me. Her and Vance had an amazing connection. Fck Cliff Ima be honest though Chester wasnt my favorite allthough he redeemed himself. Like always the plot in the book is well thought out and perfectly excecuted. Well done on another amazing book! • why choose • workplace romance • non-verbal fmc • musician mcs • on the run • exhibitionism • voyeurism
