Hidden away in an old, dilapidated Victorian home, the Dresden witches have been making their prized candies for years. Their secret ingredient would make most people squeamish, but for Lollipop it’s just another typical day at home. Lolli spends her days making candies and longing for her classmate Stella. As her infatuation for Stella deepens, Lollipop begins to question her loyalty to her family. Will she choose love or will she do anything it takes to preserve the Dresden legacy at any costs? Does she have what it takes to be the next head witch or will her powers never be strong enough?
Stella Morris has recently moved to Arcana, California after a tragic incident involving her mother. Stella is both beautiful and popular, but she harbors a darkness in her that threatens to make her whole world come undone.
This coming of age queer romance is drenched in blood and sugar.
Born in Catania, Sicily, she has led a nomadic life since birth. She has lived in various European cities and Cuba, and currently resides in the Los Angeles area. Always an avid reader and writer from a young age, she loved entertaining her friends with ghost stories. She loves horror movies, cats, and a good rock show. She dislikes Mondays and chick-flicks. CUT HERE, her debut paranormal urban fantasy was inspired by a nightmare the writer had a few years ago. Some of her favourite authors include Anne Rice, Oscar Wilde, Chuck Palahniuk, and Isabella Santacroce.
I’ve been craving a good witch story and I Want Candy satisfied that. It’s not your typical witch tale and that’s what I enjoyed. Nox put her own spin on this and created a very engaging read. I liked the twists that were sprinkled about and completely unexpected.
Lollipop and Stella were great characters. As the story unfolds, you begin to see how broken these girls are and how they struggle with certain things happening in their lives. Eventually, those things surface and haunt them, especially Stella. Almut was also an interesting character who kicked things up a notch and had a pretty big influence on Lollipop and how things ended.
This is considered a coming-of-age queer romance but there are enough horror elements in it that I think horror lovers would enjoy it as well. I certainly did.
Una novela corta sobre un aquelarre de brujas que fabrican caramelos. Romance sáfico, gore y plot twists vertiginosos. Menuda REINA (de Halloween) está hecha Azzurra Nox.
I Want Candy interweaves a demented business, twisted familial relationships, high school drama, and the desire for love. Filled with strong women, both those coping with trauma and those creating it, Azzurra Nox serves up a brutal, blood-tainted concoction that will taint your tongue long after it’s finished.
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving this review willingly.
A deliciously twisted tale about a young witchy woman finding her destiny.
I Want Candy takes the reader on a journey with Lolli, a young girl moving toward womanhood fast, and finding herself torn between her love for her family and her attraction for Stella, a girl at her school.
Her family, a clan of witches, are a loveable bunch. They make the most delicious candy, gummy hearts from the most gruesome ingedients. As their hold over Lolli tightens, she finds them stifling at times and struggles with her place in life.
As the story unfolds, the twists and turns are dark and surprising. Lolli begins to find out who she really is. The reader is immersed in a witchy world where terrifying and gory things happen. You will find yourself gripping the page, dying to know what Lolli will do.
