The Fall 2023 issue of Rattle features a tribute to poems written in response to writing prompts. While some write off prompts as mere exercises, for others they’re the key to unlocking creativity and restoring the sense of play with language. The special section includes prompt poems by 16 poets and a conversation with Joseph Fasano, whose popular template prompts have given non-poets their own access to the interior. In the open section, 22 poets familiar and new share a diverse set of powerful poems.
Rattle is a publication of the Rattle Foundation, an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the practice of poetry, and is not affiliated with any other organization. Alan C. Fox is its founder.
This is the latest instalment of Rattle’s literary magazine, and it’s just as enjoyable as the last one. I only actually have it because I submitted some work to them, but I’m glad that I did. They’re publishing exactly the kind of modern, free verse poetry that I like to read.
Is it perfect? No. There are plenty of poems that flop for me, but that’s the beauty of reading poetry. I think there’s a little something here for everybody, and so if you’re into poetry then go check it out.
