The alternate timeline that dominates this sequel to a must-read debut novel is not to my taste (nor, to be fair, is it to almost any characters' taste), but seeing beloved personalities react to a new environment allows for gratifyingly existential observations. As in the first book, and perhaps even more so due to the ability to grow with well-drawn people over time(lines), there's an incredible amount of wisdom here about knowing oneself and curating our mental images, about the trade-offs that happen in any life whether mundane or extraordinary, and about the horrors that can be extrapolated from seemingly every choice we make. With sometimes off-putting commitment, Blank deepens his ability to use wildly speculative fiction to convey intimately familiar problems.

Best sci-fi I've read in years! I read this instead of reading all of the other books I took home during the holiday, but it was worth it. Probably can't recommend to folks that aren't into really deep-dive sci-fi or the SCP wiki. If you aren't in for a bit of time commitment, this might not be for you.

another harryblank w. uniquely out of almost everyone on the mainsite, harry has the ability to create larger-than-life characters that stick in your head months after you thought you'd stop thinking about them.

yes i've been thinking about bury the survivors for an entire year. seeing this pop up was such a blessing, and it lived up to its predecessor and more, besides. i've been a fan of the canadian shenanigans since they first started popping up, and this is another excellent entry in the 43 canon.
