I should have stayed away from her. Even I know this.
I used to convince myself that I’m irreparable. But what if the one woman I shouldn’t crave is the only person who can mend my jaded heart?
Claire Nettles is hiding more than just her feelings from me. And when I find out what has her so scared, I’m never allowing her to walk out of my life again.
The desire I have for Claire is toxic, but I know that without her, my entire life will implode until there’s nothing worth saving.

Some say that love will find you when you least expect it.
And for me that couldn’t be truer. Except I fell for the one man who was always destined to break my heart. And he did…into a million unrecognizable pieces.
The warning signs were glaringly obvious, and I’m a fool for not trusting my own instincts.
So now, as I try to rebuild myself from the damage Nic Hoffman has caused, I’m faced with even more consequences from the horrible choices I’ve made in the past.
Everything is happening so fast, and no matter which way I turn, I fear that the secrets I’m harboring will ruin everything good left in my life.
This book is intended for mature audiences and consists of the two-part Toxic Desire duet that should be read in order. While it is not required, it is strongly suggested that the entire Entice Series be read first prior to starting this duet. The Toxic Desire duet portrays the slippery slope of what it means to be in a toxic relationship. The physical, emotional, and psychological abuse featured in this series may be triggering.
Victoria is the author of fiery heroines and possessive heroes. She thrives on writing stories that transcend the minds of readers, allowing them to get lost in the journey to love—and all the drama that entails. Prior to delving heart first into the romance writing world, she taught middle and high school students mathematics for ten years.
Victoria Dawson is a unique combination of hopeful realist and hopeless romantic. She is an iced coffee connoisseur, a reality TV enthusiast, and a habitual wearer of stretchy pants. If she is not chasing after her three active children, she is often found scouring social media for her next book boyfriend fix.
Having grown up in an itty bitty town in Pennsylvania, Victoria is a little bit country. She currently resides in Maryland with her family.
This author always outdoes herself .. I swear 5 stars earned ONCE AGAIN. The spice/steam was a great amount! I feel like you get more attached to each character in this book. Or I did anyway🙈 The author’s writing was giving you so much detail without being too overwhelming. I genuinely enjoyed this!
I received this ARC for an honest review all thoughts/opinions above are my own!
I am absolutely obsessed with this series and am so sad it's over :(( . the twists and turns are always so well executed and I loved the suspense mixed in! I am utterly obsessed with Claire and love the friendship she and Angie have! . I also love the dynamic between her and Nic and how you finally see her starting to stand up for herself. This book did tie everything up so nicely, but I really hope there is at least a novella that releases bc I am so obsessed with this world and these characters, I don't want it to be done lol
. . I received this as an ARC and am giving my honest review, all opinions/thoughts are my own :)
Thank you Victoria for the opportunity to read this book early. I was so happy to be chosen cause I HAD to see where their story went! I loved seeing nic and Claire’s growth as individuals and as a couple! I went through all the emotions reading this one so if you liked Inflame RUN TO READ THIS!
While I enjoyed this author’s first series, and I liked the idea of Nic and Claire, this just wasn’t it for me. If I read “my girl” one more time (51 times according to Kindle), I was going to scream. He openly admitted they weren’t together but still called her his. “I just am incapable of letting her go. She’s mine. I just need her to come to terms with it.” Stalking, tracking and keeping tabs of someone that you’re not with is creepy in my opinion and not romantic or cute in any way.
There was some cute banter, drama and spice which I’m sure others will enjoy. The ending felt a bit rushed and I would’ve liked a little glimpse in their lives years later. It kind of set it up for another character’s story, so maybe we would see more of Nic and Claire in that series.
I received an arc copy of Implode. Let me just say I was absolutely obsessed with the first book and knew I would love the second one. The second book showed a lot of character growth for both characters that wasn’t rushed which I really appreciate. In the first book you see that both of them were dealing with their own emotional issues. There was one trope in the book (don’t want to spoil so I won’t name it) that I tend to avoid. However, Victoria did an amazing job a spinning it to where I absolutely loved the ending. There was also quite a bit of spice! Overall I would definitely recommend this series!!
As you might remember I was straight up ready to throw my kindle at the end of Inflame particularly over Nic’s treatment of Claire. I knew that we were maybe heading in the direction that we did and in all honesty I don’t mind the , its not my favourite but its not a hard pass for me. I think because the timeline of the story is concentrated to only a few months it didn’t have that large of an impact on the overall flow.
Claire really started to take ownership of her life in this book. She knows what she needs to work on and you can see that the shock of everything that happened in book one and some of the things that happen in this book really allow her focus on what is important.
I’m so glad that we got to see Nic come to realise that his actions has consequences and that he needed to go a work on himself to be the man that Claire needs. Is he perfect, absolutely not but the way he takes care of her and shows up for her had me swooning from page to page.
In addition to our two main characters figuring out themselves and each other, there is the additional element of mysterious ongoings at HH that all come to ahead in the closing stages of this book. It adds a layer to suspense and intrigue to the story line and while I did guess who the bad guy was, that didn’t spoil my enjoyment of watching the drama unfold.
Victoria has taken a step up in her writing in this book. The characters are well presented, the narrative flows smoothly and actions of the characters have a purpose. Yes, there were things left unresolved but I can tell that she is setting us up for the next instalment and that’s more than ok for me - I look forward to seeing what she brings next.
I should have stayed away from her. Even I know this.
I used to convince myself that I’m irreparable. But what if the one woman I shouldn’t crave is the only person who can mend my jaded heart?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
OMG Victoria really out did her self with this book, the plot and spice were on point. The characters were wonderfully written and left me craving more from each of the characters. Please read your trigger warnings to make sure this book for you. If it seems like a good match please give this book and this author a shot. You definitely won’t be disappointed and that’s a promise.
In the first story, we watched them play back and forth on how they felt about each other. Nic wanted her - but his jaded past prevented him from really giving her every part of him. When she announced her feelings, he froze. We were left with them avoiding each other but how much can you avoid a man who not only works in the same building but also is the best man in your best friends upcoming wedding.
As they navigate their life "without" each other, we get several bombs dropped which shakes things up for Claire and Nic. There are threats that are unseen and as Claire tries to be strong and independent, Nics need to protect and "stalk" comes out.
I loved seeing the growth from Clairs POV as she navigated her newly single life, becoming determined to break the idea that her worth is tied to others perspective of her. She is learning to love herself all over again and become the strong woman that SHE needs for her future.
Nic also faces major growth with coming to terms with his own insecurities. He begins to seek help which is a major step for him. He spends this book earning his place in Claire's life again and it was cute to watch him come to terms with his true feelings and how far he is willing to make sure that he is the man that she needs.
Inflame left me with soooo many emotions! Nic and Claire’s chemistry was undeniable and I was so hung up on them figuring their differences out. Implode picked up right where they left off and I was immediately brought back to why these two gave me so much anxiety 🤣. Even though they seem like complete opposites, they work for each other. And without one another, I don’t think they both could have grown into the characters they are in the end.
I really feel like this book was a reverse grumpy/sunshine. Claire is spiraling with everything going on in her life (looking for a new home, battling an abusive ex, trying to get over Nic and **spoiler** an accidental pregnancy). Ontop of all that she still needs to be there for her best friend’s wedding and run a new business 😮💨. On the flip side, Nic is doing whatever it takes to get Claire back into his life and prove to her how great they are together. Nic’s character development in this book was what I was rooting for at the end of Inflame and Victoria Dawson delivered!!
I have yet to read the Entice series but it’s definitely gained a spot on my TBR. If Angie and Graham’s story is anything like Nic and Claire’s, I’m going to eat it up!!
I can’t thank Victoria Dawson again for the ARC opportunity!!! Inflame and Implode were both amazing reads and I enjoyed them both so much!!

The first book had me so angry but wanting so much more from Nic and Claire. They had so much fire and so much chemistry but man both were so dang stubborn they couldn’t see what was right in front of them. With that being said, Nic really screwed things up and that’s where we were left.
This book, we came in and it was such an amazing growth chapter of their lives. There were definitely struggles, twists, turns, and all the things that are usually present in “real life” but we got to see them actually work through the mud instead of walking away.. again and again and again. It was a great closing on Nic and Claire as well as getting to see Angie and Graham throughout the book too!
One thing that I love about Victoria’s books is that she captures your attention straight from the start. Literally from page one, I was stuck in reading and I couldn’t stop. I HAD to know. She developed these characters so darn well, I felt like I was there through the triumph and tribulations.
If you haven’t read the Entice series, it’s best you do, it gets brought up a bit and it’s better to understand the back story. And you absolutely HAVE to read Toxic Desires Book One Inflame before reading this one!
Implode by Victoria Dawson is book two in the Toxic Desire Duet. It’s a Grumpy Meets Sunshine Forbidden Romance. After reading book one Inflame I could not wait to get my hands on this book! Which I’m so happy to say was amazing, it ties up Nic and Claire’s story beautifully! Victoria Dawson really knows how to suck the reader into the world they've created. I read the whole book cover to cover never once lowering my kindle. I was hooked from the very first chapter and it didn’t let me go until I finished. I do recommend reading the series before this one, it’s called the Entice Series. Also it is a must that you read Inflame (book one of this duet) Also do recommend reading your trigger warnings to be on the safe side. I loved reading the characters working through their issues and the growth that went along with it. I found myself absolutely falling for Nic, reading him out so much effort was just amazing. The chemistry was still as amazing as the first book, sometimes I’m surprised my kindle didn’t start smoking. I really loved reading Nic and Claire grow together and individually. Claire finding her self worth was amazing! This was hands down a phenomenal read!
Grumpy meets Sunshine. Possessive. Touch Her and Die. This book is part two in the Toxic Desire series and in the same world as the Entice book series. The Entice series focused on Angie and Graham, and the Toxic Desire series focused on Claire and Nic. In book one, Claire and Nic develop a relationship, but it ends when Nic points out that he is not looking for a forever situation. Now in book two, Claire is trying to live with two back to back heartbreaks. While Nic says he doesn’t want a real relationship, his possessiveness doesn’t allow for Claire to get far from him. This book was very well written, like all of Victoria Dawson’s books. I love that Claire’s story is being finished. The character development and world building done by Victoria Dawson are amazing. Elements of abuse are touched on due to Claire's past relationship. The characters will have you feeling a variety of emotions as you read. Next is Penny’s story and I cannot wait to read her story!
The book itself is written well and the spice is very nice. . Due to the spoilers above, this book just really wasn’t for me. I’m sure a lot of others would love this book. I did finish the book and I liked the ending though it felt a bit rushed. I feel like the ending could have had a few more chapters, though . I don’t agree with the choice that is in this spoiler but it’s not my book.
Overall it was an ok book and I think many more people would like this, I truly think my hangups are my own.

Victoria Dawson never disappoints me! Implode is the second book in her Toxic Desire duet. Claire and Nic are one of my favorite couples right now and I can’t get over how much love there is between the two.
It hurt so much seeing Claire struggle wjth so many changes to her life. But you can see the strength and resiliency she had within the entire book. It was sooooo beautiful to watch Nic come into realization that he needed to work on himself in order to be a better partner.
I could not put this book down. I read it in a day in a half and I don’t regret it. I am absolutely in love with Victoria Dawson and her books. I look forward to reading more from her. Especially if Penny gets her own story that maybe includes Collins….? Lol. Who knows. But I know that Victoria is an author that I will always love and is one of my top five favorite authors.
Nic and Claire’s story goes on, and they have quite some bumps on the road to HEA. After ending things with Claire, Nic is determined to get her back, but Claire’s past is trying to catch up with her, and she is seeing things differently. Add to that some surprises along the way, and you get an amazing ending to this duet. This duet is the first one I have read by Miss Dawson, and I can say that she has captured my heart with Nic and Claire. I already loved the first book, maybe some grumbling with the cliffhanger, but the second one made it even better. The author adds enough of surprise elements and some twists and turns, with a little suspense to kept me on the edge of my seat. I finished this book in one setting, I just needed to see how things would go. I just couldn’t put it down and kept reading late at night just to get to the end.
Finally the conclusion to Claire and Nic’s story. Oh how I love these two - the sass, the protectiveness, the intensity, the heat. I really enjoyed seeing how they grew separately. Victoria Dawson wrote beautiful journeys for both of them - full of highs and lows. I loved Nic’s come to terms with his past, especially how Victoria Dawson normalizes therapy and its benefits!
Victoria ran me through a gauntlet of emotions reading the conclusion of their story. One moment I was angry and frustrated. The next I was laughing (I swear Nic has some of the funniest lines and scenes) and feeling joy along with the characters. I love her humor!
Dawson definitely kept me guessing throughout the book as to who and what the threat was. I certainly didn’t see it coming. I love some good suspense! But I love a good love story even more and Dawson definitely delivers. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
I was waiting quite impatiently for this book, as I absolutely loved first part of this duet. Once again I wasn’t disappointed. This is conclusion to Claire and Nic’s story. I don’t want to spoil anything here, but this book has everything, drama, angst, romance and a lot of self discovery and work on healing. And it’s from both characters. And maybe that’s one of the main thing that I absolutely loved. Not one of the characters was perfect, each of them carried some o self doubt, insecurities or imperfections, just like we all are. And it was really lovely to see them going through all the motions to become still imperfect, yet better self. It’s a beautiful story, full of love and if you wondering, yes, still very hot!
We were very fortunate to be a part of this creative author Victoria's journey through both series As always, she did not disappoint us and exceeded our expectations Nic and Claire and their journey which in this second book story will give you all kinds of feelings Laughing, crying, Swooning, grinding, teeth greeting, and sterling through so many sweet moments, Steamy scans, support of true friends painful past healing, and heart squeezing love The amount of twisted and excitement with suspense in this story is unbelievable. The characters of Collins & Asher add a lot to the story. Hopefully Collins will be with penny as the next series This is a story of 2 damaged souls and there journey of healing It's definitely highly recommend
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! This is the end of Nic and Claire's story and I could not be more happier with how it ended. Don't get me wrong it did take us on a roller coaster but Nic did the perfect amount of groveling that I even fell more in love with him than I had in the first book. I swear the chokehold this man had on me is a little embarrassing. Yes, he was a jerk, yes he did ruin a good thing but everything that was thrown at them was a test to confirm that they were meant to have their HEA and I am so glad that it finally got to it. Victoria is such an amazing writer I yet again felt like I was a character in the books instead of an outsider looking (reading) in. I can't wait to see what comes next!
Victoria is one of my favorite authors! The Toxic Duet series was absolute perfection. This book has no shortage of angst, suspense, and spice! I fell in love with Claire and Nic.
Nic starts off a stubborn commitment phobe. What he quickly learns is everything he's been missing when he opens his jeart to Claire.
Claire is a determined, strong woman. All she's ever wanted was to be loved inconditionally. Her past has made her believe it's just out of reach. That is until she falls in love with Nic. Just when she thinks all is possible, everything comes crashing down.
4.5 Stars If you enjoy groveling, character development, healing, and found family, you should read this duet. I love Claire's personality! She is strong yet vulnerable, completely selfless, and puts in all the work to have the life she wants for herself. I was so upset with how the first book ended that cliffhanger was rough. I needed to know what happened with her and Nic. Turns out there was so much more going on besides their relationship problems. This was a fun and unpredictable story. These characters are so relatable that they feel real. You will fall in love with both the main and side characters and absolutely hate the villains. Definitely recommend.
First of all, thank you Victoria for send me an ARC for review.
I was literally OBSESSED. I think I fell more in love with Claire and Nic the more I read.
The author does an incredible job of getting you to actually feel the emotions/trauma the characters are going through. Claire visiting her home town nearly broke me. Claire went THROUGH it in this book but she came out happy and strong in the end.
Watching Nic’s journey going from hard and closed off to soft and welcoming was my favorite thing ever. I loved him so much.
There was also an added suspense/thrill in this one and I was living for it. 😍
Loved everything about this book. Easy 5 stars for me!!
This is my second book that I read from Victoria and let me tell you I love it 😍. It was worth it to wait for the second part of this story. Nic falling hard for Claire when she is done trusting him making him work hard to win her over. Even if Claire wants to be with Nic it’s not going to be possible since she have a secret that would change her life upside down and it would come between they relationships and future. Not leaving his enemies that always wanting to sabotage Nic and his family with all that this book is as good as the first one and same good spicy 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🥵 -RatedRforReading
Ok where to start, let’s touch on how this book immediately picks up from where the end of Inflame left us. Thank the book gods for that because that was an ending that left me in turmoil!! We continue to follow Nic and Claire in this book, and their toxic relationship that truly is perfect hahaha.
The growth we see with these characters is absolutely incredible! We still get some Graham and Angie in the background, which is the cherry on top. The spice is also tastefully done, as always! I seriously could not love these books more than I do, and I highly recommend you grab them whether you have KU or grab them in paperback. These are a must read!!
This is the 5th book I have read by Victoria Dawson and another one I loved! The continuation of Claire and Nic’s story is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Implode had all the feels… happy, sad, sweet, spicy, love, angst, laughter, friendship and some nice surprises. A page turner that keeps you wanting to know what happens next. Victoria has a way of making you fall in love with the characters, so again, I love that we still get Angie, Graham, Collins and Penny in this story.I honestly didn’t want it to end. Definitely recommend reading the Entice series first followed by the Toxic Desire series….Keeping my fingers crossed that maybe we will get a Penny story!?!?
In "Implode" author Victoria Dawson provides a well deserved happy ending for Nic and Claire. They both worked hard to overcome their respective issues and drop the emotional baggage that came with them. The pacing felt a bit off as the ending felt rushed compared to the beginning and middle of the story. I absolutely love Nic's family and hope the author has a story planned for their sister in future. While I'm on the subject, can I request a story for both Collins and Tyler as well? Pretty please. If your looking for a story filled with steam, angst and suspense, Victoria Dawson has you covered.
I received an E-arc from the author, and this is my honest review.
I was literally shaking with anger at the end of the last book. The growth and the passion of these two just made me so happy. This majority of this book is very much a real life situation that people find themselves in. I love a self aware man how knows that he fucked up. I’m so happy that Claire made him work for it and no just let him back in! I also loved that she stood up for herself and didn’t take his $h!T. Also the twist!? I loved the way the whole thing happened. I’m ready for the next books.
OMGGGGG!! This was the book I needed after Inflame!! This was the perfect sequel to Inflame and I’m just as obsessed with Nic and Claire as I was before! The banter between Nic and Claire is just as addicting as it was in book 1 and it even stepped up in the book. I need Nic Hoffman to be as protective over me as he is for Claire. This book is literally sooooo good! I can’t wait to go back and read Angie and Graham’s story and then continue for the next book Victoria releases!! Auto buy author for sure!
Yes! The intensity, chemistry and ups and downs continue for Claire and Nic. This has such a great romantic storyline, the evolution of Nic's character is so good and well written you can't help but fall in love with him. The suspense was good and had me going back and forth trying to figure out exactly what was going on and who the bad guy was. Not only does Nic have problems to take care of but Claire finds her own little dilemma as well. I really enjoyed this duet and may like this Claire and Nic better than Angie and Graham.
This is the second book in the Toxic Desire series and let me tell you it does not disappoint. I absolutely loved this book as much as the first. I'm glad Nic finally pulled his head out... and I'm glad Claire got the closer she needed to move forward. There are a few characters I would love to punch lol if you read it you will totally understand. But I love all of the main characters and I am definitely attached. If you haven't read the first book yo should go read it ASAP so you can read this one!!!
