With spirits drifting in and out of his life, Julio thinks having visions of an ethereal girl with silver hair is another part of the supernatural weirdness that happens to him. But when the very real girl shows up in the flesh, she brings a dire plea for help. Her faerie realm and his human realm are in danger, and only he can help. His head blares a warning against this deadly path while his heart urges him to do anything to save her. Including risk his own life.

While resigned to a life of duty in the faerie realm, princess Celyse discovers a portal to the forbidden human world, through which she meets a boy with the ability to see spirits… and risks everything by speaking to him. With danger brewing, can the unlikely pair save both of their realms?
"I thought of what I would write to Julio. Would I tell him I was a fae living in the faerie realm that overlapped the human realm and that we were mortal enemies? That I was a princess and had a duty to marry?"
I had so much fun connecting Fae Bloodlines with the Final Life Series! Some of you may have noticed, but for those who didn't, here's how I did it...
The protagonist in Final Life is seventeen-year-old Dominique. When Dominique moves from Michigan to Texas, she meets Trent Avila, and Trent becomes a HUGELY important person in Dominque's quest for survival against her supernatural hunter.
Now, in Fae Bloodlines, the human who gets entangled with fae princess Celyse is Julio Avila, and Julio is Trent's cousin! Trent is mentioned in Fae Away, and makes a big appearance in book two, Fae Fractured.
The Avila family is AMAZING! Many of the family members are curanderas/curanderos, which are Hispanic healers with special psychic abilities. Trent has these special abilities, and so does Julio. And writing these amazing characters that represent a part of my heritage has been so fun!!
The highly anticipated book 2 in the Fae Bloodlines Series is now available! Fae Fractured continues the epic story of fae princess, Celyse, and seemingly ordinary human, Julio, as they struggle to survive the wrath of a vengeful queen and a deadly witch.
I love bookish quotes, and was thrilled to see this one in a recent review! Fae Away promises all kinds of magical romance and is book one in the Fae Bloodlines Series. Check it out before the second book releases in July!

I can't wait for you to meet Julio and Celyse in Fae Away!
I was working on character cards for Julio and Celyse and was having a hard time finding a pic for inspiration for Julio. But then, lo and behold, I found one! This is exactly what I pictured in my mind when I started writing Julio. *swoon*
Julio is AMAZING!!! He lives in Austin, Texas with his mom. He's a senior who loves soccer...and can see ghosts. His mother is a curandera, and the family comes from a long line of curanderas/curanderos. Makes for a VERY interesting character! Everything changes for him when he meets Celyse. And when he finds out she's real, and in danger, he'll risk anything for her. Even his own life!
I LOVED writing about Celyse and Julio and can't wait for you to experience their epic tale of love, betrayal, palace intrigue, and shocking truths!

Just about every fantasy book has a map, and when I started writing Fae Away, I knew I wanted one! Luckily for me, I have an amazing friend, Hanna Sandvig, who’s an illustrator, and her stuff is AMAZING! So I knew my vision would be in good hands.
The problem was, I didn’t exactly know what I wanted. Other than, I definitely wanted my faerie realm to overlay the human realm. So when I started writing, I printed a blank map of the United States and had it next to me. As my story started taking shape, I started filling in the map. The first things that went in were the fae provinces. Then, I wanted to use some natural landmarks but give them fae-ish names. The Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean became the Evening Sea and the Morning Sea; and the Gulf of Mexico became the Great Cove. Those sounds fae-ish, right?
Another thing I did was look for real world inspiration for the houses of each province. Now that was fun! Celyse, my fae princess, is the daughter of the High King and High Queen of Faevenly. They live in Strong Haven East and I wanted that to be the biggest palace, so the inspiration for that was the Palace of Versailles in France.
I wanted everything else to mirror actual places in the US. For Strong Haven West, the inspiration was Francis House in California. For High Meadow, the inspiration was Salisbury House in Iowa. For Cuesta, the inspiration was Wadley Farms Castle in Utah. For Sand Bluff the inspiration was Falkenstein Castle in Texas. Lastly, for Summit Range the inspiration was the Biltmore Chateau in North Carolina. Pretty neat, huh? I bet you didn’t know there was a castle in Texas. I didn’t! lol (If you want to see links to these inspirational houses, you can find them on my blog at www.RoseGarciaBooks.com/roseonprose.)
I could go through each element of the map, but I’ll let you discover the rest of the gems on your own! I hope you enjoy the map, and I hope you enjoy Fae Away!
ONE OF THE BEST READS OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! I seek words to describe this book, but it is so amazing that I am completely spechless. I admit my expectations were quite low because of a reading slump, but wow. Not only did I love the character development and the amazing history of the world they are inserted, but the mystery and forbidden love itself. I loved every second with it and just could not put the book down. Can´t wait to read the second one and see what happens to my beloved Celyse, who I strongly identified with. To the author, Rose Garcia, thank you so much for writing your ideas and showing them to the world. You have brought me much hope and joy. I will certainly be reading all your books from now on. Even living all the way in Brazil. If you don´t know what to read next, please do yourself the favor of reading this perfect work of art.
Going into this book I knew that stories about fae and fairies mostly aren’t my kind of jam. Still, the good ratings and the synopsis made me want to pick it up and read it. I should have known better, because of course I didn’t enjoy it and was happy to be finally done.
But let’s start with the good things. Rose Garcias’ writing style is very enjoyable and easy going. I was able to go through the pages which made it definitely easier for me. I liked that she made a difference in writing between the different worlds.
However I didn’t connect with the characters at all. Celyse was the typical character in a ya fantasy novel. She was not like all the others, bla bla. We had all this before. And the male protagonist, Julio, is like all the others as well. He is special, he can see ghosts. It’s only mentioned once in the beginning and it’s never explained why, but he can.
And then, when the two meet: Insta-Love! Literally in the third chapter (and the chapters aren’t long) they are deeply and madly in love and can’t live without the other. They just met, they don’t know each other, but they are in LOVE. Julio doesn’t even know why Celyse is in his room, where she came from or that she is a fae, but she’s the love of his life. Insta-Love is my most disliked trope in fiction if you can’t tell already.
Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book. It’s a series I won’t complete, and I seldomly do this. Once I start I mostly want to know how it ends, but honestly, I really don’t care.
This Review is for Fae Away by Rose Garcia. Celyse and Julio have a forbidden romance. Celyse is a Fae Princess and Julio is a human teenager.
This is an amazing story with twists and turns, action, and romance. The story kept me on my toes. I just couldn't get enough. I recommend this story highly, it's a must read. Well done Rose Garcia.
Instead of a human girl falling (or being taken) to faerie, we have a Fae girl (Celyse) falling in love with a human (Julio) who isn't all that he seems. I really like where this story is going and I can't wait to read more of their story.
Celyse is the second child of the fae Queen and King and is preparing to face marriage to a suitor chosen by her parents when she meets Julio. Although feelings develop between them, it is death to the mortal who kisses a fae. Plus obviously her parents don't approve at all.
Despite their challenges, Julio and Celyse constantly fight to get back to and save the other. I am so excited to see where this story goes because (warning) the ending was terrible for them!
This review is for Fae Away by Rose Garcia. I loved this story. The story keeps you on your toes. The book is so well written that I felt I was right there. It has action, romance and lots of plot twists an turns. Keeps you guessing what’s next. Rose Garcia had done it again. She has delivered another great book. I can not wait for her next book. I highly recommend this book as well as any of her other incredible books.
This was a very enchanting and action packed story. I adored both MCs. If you love unexpected twists, fairytales, magic, galant heroes, modern day mixed with the past and wickedly evil foes; then, you will love this book.
My only complaint is the cliffhanger of an ending and the losses of some great characters. I'm hoping book 2 is wonderfully redeeming!!
This is the fist fae book I’ve read in years and perhaps only the second one ever (besides my own and Lord of the Rings). I went into this book very excited to learn about this fae realm and Celyse and Julio’s story. It did not disappoint. I finished the book in two sittings and was ready to one-click the next book right away.
This is also my first read from Rose Garcia. I loved every bit of this book. It had great pace, action, world-building, and several great surprises. Celyse is the twin princess of the most powerful rulers in the fae realm of Favenly. Her older twin sister will rise to the position of queen. At eighteen they will enter a year of courtship and marry.
But Celyse finds a shimmer, a portal that lets the fae enter the human realm. Always intrigued with the forbidden human world, she immediately opens the shimmer. She sees a boy named Julio and they become friends, talking every night for many months. But as her eighteenth birthday approaches, she knows she must break ties with him. She has a duty to fulfill and what could be between them when her kiss will kill him?
Her meeting with her first potential suitor goes awry. His actions plunge her into a series of events that lead her to many hidden truths. I won’t say more for this book has lots of juicy secrets to discover.
Fae Away is the first installment in the Fae Bloodlines series.
It’s a fast paced, young adult fantasy read.
There’s a forbidden romance, humans and fae, magic, and even some paranormal activity. It’s set in a modern timeframe, with fae and human realms overlapping each other.
If you’re looking for a quick read with action and romance, this is a good start.
‘Fae Away’ was a definite surprise of joy and suspense to read. Having not read much fast-paced fantasy books previously, I had really nothing to expect or really compare it to. Which was why I was so surprised when I realized, “Hey, I actually like this!” Especially the culture infused in it! It’s so lovely and refreshing to read about different cultures, notably the times that it’s incorporated in fantasy writing; compared to nonfiction, memoirs, or contemporaries.
Due to the fast-paced nature of this book, it could get overwhelming. When faced with all these different issues at once, in such a short amount of time, you’re really put into the characters shoes. You don’t get the pleasure of sitting back and relaxing: instead you put on edge the entire time- it was truly chaotic and ecstatic at the same time.
I believe that it is naturally difficult to have a fantasy book that is short, but still can have a complex system: that wasn’t an issue here! Being meant with constant action and problems arising at every corner, with plot twists that you really can’t expect. Again, going into this book with really nothing to expect, and finding out how good the plot was- I was practically in Faevenly myself!
I have minimum criticism to offer, but it is constructive so I will add it. The book was overwhelming and stressful, with new things popping up every minute. It was like being slapped in the face every time a problem would arise- which helps with setting the reader into the world, but it’s also just mentally exhausting at times.
With more build up to the issues that would arise- more implements of the past coming to use- it would turn the mental slap into a caress. It would feel like the writing and plot would move along more freely, less forced. It would turn these problems that just keep appearing, into ones that subtly grow, while remaining unnoticed by the characters- but obvious to the readers. It would create the same outcome of being on edge, because your waiting for the time that the characters put the pieces of the puzzle that you as the reader put together, but it would be less overwhelming to experience and read: for everything wouldn’t come at you at once.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book! It was fun, refreshing, unique, and unexpected. Although it could get overwhelming at times, at least I was able to hopefully provide some solution- which balances it out. I do wish there was more detail on the characters falling in love, so emotions and expressions would feel more intimate and less random. I found the culture that was embedded throughout the story to be splendid and new, and just another aspect to help grow my liking.
Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an ebook advance reader copy for free- in exchange of me leaving a review both honestly and voluntarily.
-Netgally provided me with an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review-
As the princess of the most powerful house in faerie, Celyse must follow the rules. But when she finds a shimmer (a portal allowing her to see the human world) and meets a beautiful human boy, she will do everything she can to see him again. On the other side of the shimmer, Julio has a special power of his own: he can see ghosts. And when things go south in faerie, forcing Celyse to cross over, he will not hesitate to help her save her land and his.
Honestly, this book is everything I hoped it would be. I just adore YA fantasy with faeries as long as there isn't any info dumping or too slow moments, and with this one, I was not disappointed. It's quite short, easy to read and fast paced. The story is enthralling and the world building amazing. I loved the characters and how Celyse breaks the rules. It may have been a little cliché (the princess who doesn't want to be queen and would rather see the human world, the hot football player, love at first sight...) but it didn't bother me at all in the end because there was so much more than just this romance. I loved how magical it was, but not childish. There is also violence, fights, betrayals and schemes in this book and I was there for it! The plot-twists were brilliant and the romance was really cute, forbidden romance that felt like fate. The side characters (particularly Manny) were amazing as well, and not useless at all, everyone played a part. I also loved the main plot and how it was brought upon, making us think things and then turning everything around as the characters discovered the truth. But that ending though! I need the sequel ASAP because that cliffhanger has me on my knees!
I would highly recommend for any fans of faes and adventure.
Fae Away was a sweet and easy read that took an alluring turn from its lighthearted beginning. The writing style was readable and descriptive without crossing into skim-inducing territory. Although the majority of the dialogue personally tended towards seeming artificial and rather forced, the characters remained vivid and lovable (or hateable, in the case of the villain). The ending wrapped up enough loose ends for one to feel satisfied, but left enough plot points unresolved to interest one in reading the sequel. Overall, Fae Away was engaging, but not earthshaking.
To be honest, the romantic subplot between Julio and Celyse did not play a ditty on my heartstrings in the way that I believe it was intended to. I read most of the lines detailing their affection for each other with a slight aversion to the cliché that pervaded it. To me, it did not seem very genuine or true to life, but maybe I'm a cynic. The relationship between Celyse and her family members, however, was far more interesting. I won't spoil the story by going into too much detail, but I feel like her familial relationships, particularly that of her and her sister, were more unique than is commonly found in the YA genre and explored some interesting territory.
In truth, the reason I gave this book four stars is because of the last 25% of the story. The plot twists that occurred were just too good to rate it any lower. I sometimes can't tell if I simply don't utilize my critical thinking skills when reading YA or if the plot twist is genuinely surprising, but either way, I was pleasantly startled by the plot in the latter part of the book. It was an unexpected but not unwelcome change from the low-key vibes of the rest of the story.
Am I going to reread Fae Away? Not anytime soon. But am I going to read the sequel? Quite likely.
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and BookSirens for providing me with a free Advanced Reading Copy of this book. My review is uninfluenced and has been left voluntarily.
This story follows Celyse who is the daughter of the High King and High Queen of Faevenly. The Fae and humans are enemies ever since the Great Shimmer War that occurred hundreds of years ago when humans tried to take from the Fae. She lives in the land of the Fae which is parallel to our human world and they have these floating orbs called Shimmers that are portals into the human world. Celyse happens upon one and meets a human boy Julio. They talk for six months and then she cuts off contact since she knew she should not speak with the enemy as her family always says about humans. When she turns eighteen, she is to start the year of being courted. Things do not go quite as planned and she ends up using a portal to the human world right to Julio because she gets information that humans are being taken by the Fae and she's determined to get answers and help.
I liked the idea of the Fae world being parallel to ours and they have these orbs they use for portals to access the human world. There are five ruling provinces in Faevenly with Celyse's house being the High ruling house. She has a twin sister Malena who seems to be the opposite of Celyse. Malena is much more ambitious and power hungry like her mother. Celyse is more like her father, a bit of an introvert, but very kind and caring.
Celyse was bit boring and bland for a character to me, but I really like how she did not allow others to affect her thoughts and opinions, such as for the humans. She wants to help them and her people, even if it goes against her family. I did really like the romance between her and Julio. It is very sweet and cute and I was just rooting for them the whole time.
This book had a lot of sudden moments and twists in it as well that were unexpected and shocking since I did not expect some of the sudden events that occurred. If you love books with Fae, then I recommend this one!
I received an advance review copy for free(thank you to BookSirens and the author), and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was going to give this 3 stars because of the rushed pacing and the insta-love, but for sheer entertainment value, I'm bumping it up to 4 stars. I really did enjoy my time reading this and I want to know what happens next. Was it the best thing I've ever read? Nah. But I like faeries, I like betrayal, I like the evil queen trope, and I like a main character whose name is *almost* mine (Celyse... Elyse... so close).
My favorite part in here is a spoiler so let's just say it has to do with Celyse's relationship with her mother. There is a lot of untapped potential there that wasn't fully explained to my liking so I'm hoping there's more information in the next book. I'd really like to know how "the five" came to support one another and how the other seelie/unseelie clans came together.
As I stated earlier, the pacing is rushed. I like books that get to the point, but this was fast even for me. I think if it had taken it's time and spent a bit more time on the worldbuilding and explaining the background of Faevenly as well as the relationship between Celyse & Julio, this could have really been something great. I'm also hoping the next book dives into Julio's ancestry which I find really interesting. So many fun things in here that need a bit more development.
All of that being said, I still really enjoyed my time to the point that I would keep reading on.
This story follows Celyse, a fae princess bound to her kingdom's expectations and rules, and Julio, a human teenager who loves soccer and hanging with his best friend, Manny. When Celyse stumbles upon a "shimmer," or a small portal to the forbidden human realm, she can't help but be entranced by Julio's down to earth, caring personality and her curiosity of the human realm. This fast paced story is full of twists and sweet, stolen moments between the two, as Celyse is strictly forbidden from interacting with Julio. When a long hidden secret comes to light, Celyse must finally choose between her heart or her duty to the kingdom.
This story was a joy to read and I can't wait to see what happens next! The mixture of the fae realm and human world was smooth, the world building was great, the characters are lovable, and the splash of family drama is perfect. I really enjoy the mix of magic/abilities so far. None of the story feels forced, and the two worlds collide perfectly. I love a story with a good friend squad and Celyse, Julio, and Manny definitely delivered. Can't wait for the next book!
Celyse is a fae princess and is a twin. Her parents are the High King and High Queen of Strong Haven. Celyse lives in Faevenly with all the Fae. Or so she thought.
Julio is a human who has abilities he tries to ignore. He plays Soccer and his bestfriend is Manny. Julio meets Celyse one night and they become friends. Then she just disappears until one night she is in his realm in the flesh.
This was a beautifully written story about two people of different realms that aren't suppose to be together. They are enemies or so they believed it to be.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters. There are some twists in this book that make you wonder what will happen next. I could not stop turning the page to find out what will happen next. There is love, betrayal, loss, friendship, suspense, and I enjoyed it all. I really enjoyed how the author wrote about the two different realms and made it easy to imagine and understand. I can not wait for the next book to come out. 5☆'s
3 ½ Stars rounded up to 4 stars Book one of the Fae Bloodline Series. Never touch a portal, and never kiss a human. Rules that the fae, Celyse didn’t follow. She finds a portal that when she peeks into, she finds herself face to face with a gorgeous human. Soon, she is visiting her would-be enemy nightly. Until a malicious suitor threatens her life and her kingdom. This fantasy young adult book was fast paced and written well. This book was giving me a lot of Romeo and Juliet vibes the whole time I was reading. The best part of this book would be the world building which was done so well that I could just see everything so well. The only issue I had with the book was with the characters were not relatable, and I just could not feel the romance between the main characters. This book would be a great read for any young adult fans who love fairy romance (like the Cruel Prince). I received an advanced review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Princess Celyse has never quite felt at home in Faevenly. When she starts using the forbidden shimmers to visit the human realm, the last thing she expected was to fall in love. But that's exactly what happens when she meets Julio, a human boy who can see ghosts.Unluckily for Julio and Celyse, humans and the Fae are mortal enemies, and her kiss would directly lead to Julio's death. But when Celyse is forced to enter into a betrothal she doesn't want, she is willing to do anything to escape it.
Wow!!! This is my first book by Rose Garcia, but I know it won't be my last!!! This book was lively and well written, and I enjoyed every second of it. Celyse is such a lovely heroine, I admire her bravery and her willingness to do whatever it takes to protect those she cares about. Julio is such a sweetheart, I love how protective he was of Celyse, and I admired the close bond he has with his best friend, Manny. Manny was also a super fun character to read about! As for that cliffhanger of an ending... I'm going to start book two right away!!!!
At first I thought the book was super fast paced but it evened out pretty quickly. I’m now realising (after finishing the book) that those chapters are the context chapters are aren’t meant to be slow paced.
This book was really good, to put it simply. I was hooked the whole time. I didn’t see where it was going (plot twists) and definitely couldn’t have called the end.
One plot twist was done so nicely I practically squealed when it was revealed, super impressed with that one.
Really good read, the characters have really nice arcs and development, there is good comedy and serious moments. I really like the connection between the two protagonists and the side characters were well defined.
I was torn with how to rate this book..if it was my first introduction to fantasy or I was in my teen years, I’m sure I would’ve rated this book much higher.
I did enjoy it nevertheless but I just feel like maybe its for a younger audience?
The characters were well structured and I loved the twists that you found out towards the end of the book.
I did like the duel POVs but found myself much prefering Celyses POV to Julio’s.
I will be carrying on with this series as I NEED to know what happens to Celyse.
I really appreciated the world building. It was clear and helpful, while not taking up too much time. I loved seeing the sweet relationship grow from both Celyse and Julio’s perspectives. They (plus Manny and Leto) are great characters and I can’t wait to see how they all find and save each other in the next book!
Fae Away was an engrossing, fascinating introduction to this series! I was hooked after the first paragraph, and dying to know what happens next. Celyse and Julio were fabulous to follow, and I can hardly wait to dive in to book 2!
I wasn't the biggest fan of this. The romance in this felt too insta lovey and some parts of the plot were just way too easy and kind of random. Parts of it was a bit cringy and I just couldn't really get into it. The concept is really interesting and I like the idea of these portals into each world, but the execution wasn't for me.
