“We only get one life to live. So, will you live for today with me?”
“For you, I would do anything.”
Immediate thoughts:
All the feels... I am not well!
So gut-wrenching, emotional, angsty, but so beautiful and a wonderful HEA.
Tropes:
College, sports romance, best friend’s brother, friend’s with benefits, childhood friends, mental health rep, “It’s always been you”, touch her and die, forced proximity.
ARC review:
Ugh, the feels of this one! I was left empty while reading this, totally emotionally drained, but in the end my heart was put back together again with love; love for Jason & Vanessa, love for the will to live and overcoming struggles, love for Ashley Elizabeth and her incredible writing.
I felt with Vanessa so much with the struggles she had, even if it was frustrating at times, I get how it is not easy to love yourself, and with her body and mental health issues, it was just so relatable and real, and also very tough to read. The way Jason cared for her was wonderful, and just perfect for her - it is clear all the way through that they are soulmates and they belong together. But their journey towards a happily ever after was not a straightforward road, but filled with ups and downs.
Vanessa and Jason have been friends since childhood, and have always shared a deep connection, but since Jason is Vanessa’s best friend’s brother, they have never been more than friends. After something terrible happens their friendship is destroyed. That is until they are both at the same college, and they decide to resume their friendship - with the addition of some spicy benefits. It should be all good after that, but there are secrets, struggles with mental health, and the ‘normal’ college issues, so they are really having to work for it.
It is a very angsty and tension-filled story at times, heartbreaking and frustrating at times, but also uplifting and a story about so much more than just college romance. There is a very good mental health representation, and I was drawn into this story completely. The characters are flawed, but determined and loves with their whole hearts, once they let their walls down. Just have some tissues ready, and you might want to check the content warnings before reading. However, I loved this so so much, and will definitely recommend this if you like angsty stories.
