Waiting for Jedidiah: How to Experience God’s Healing after a Miscarriage

Rate this book
Her dreams were filled with motherhood, the due date circled on the calendar. She titled her newest Pinterest board, “Nursery Design,” and spent hours poring over new ideas. The first ultra-sound was scheduled weeks ago. It should be the most joyous time in her life. But her uterus is empty, and the baby is gone. She’s suffered what most pregnant women fear ... a miscarriage.
What does a woman do with her unfulfilled dreams and the immense hole in her heart? How does she grieve the loss of the baby she never held? Is it even possible to move on from her sorrow?

Waiting for Jedidiah is book full of lesson in trials, faith, and hope. Although I have not been through what the author has, her story resonated with me because like most people, I have been affected by past traumas. The section on "defining narratives" really hit home. The weaving of scripture throughout and recommended verses make this an excellent read for women who have miscarried, the men who love them, and anyone who has suffered from loss.

Waiting for Jedidiah is written for women who have suffered the agony of miscarriage. Betty Ringeisen does a beautiful job of combining her personal experience of multiple miscarriages with the scriptures in a way that will help anyone find their way back to peace after suffering the faith-shattering tragedies that happen in this life. When I reached the conclusion of Waiting for Jedidiah it reminded me of a key point from a preacher’s message: As children of God we must “focus on what we are going to more than what we are going through”. Ringeisen offers many helps for processing the grief of miscarriage, but ultimately points to the eternal joy we will have with God and with loved ones that have passed on before us.

Even though I’ve never had a miscarriage, I found this book extremely inspiring. It caught my interest because I experienced the death of an eight-year-old child. I was her “second mom.” I can see where this book could be marketed to a large audience. I think anyone who has dealt with some major pain in life can benefit from reading Ringeisen’s inspirational thoughts.

The book is written in a devotional-type format with Bible scripture for Christian living and encouragement. Some profound questions to ponder are included. Thanks to the author for writing the book that I’m sure will encourage many people. Would make a great Christmas gift for those who have suffered a miscarriage or the death of a child—or anyone struggling from a tragedy.

As painful as the experience was of losing not one but multiple babies, the author doesn’t leave you in the heartbreak. In between the real and raw brokenness, she continually offers hope and peace. We all experience gut wrenching situations and we all need the healing that only comes from God.
