Steve attends a university and is on a quest for truth. But some of his post-modernist professors are telling him that universal truth doesn’t even exist.
I found this book on a rack of free books at the local grocery store and picked it up. It’s a fictional account about a rich agnostic guy who goes to college, runs into the straw manning Bio prof and seeks solace in a warm Christian grounds keeper who talks to him about Jesus. The test for fiction is how good are the characters and do they live in a believable world. Miller fails fantastically on both these fronts. Miller has the token Bio Prof say “science holds the answers to all our questions” which is not what I’ve heard from any actual science Prof or speaker. Scientist are and have been upfront about the questions that science can and can’t answer and also about appropriate uses of the methodology. Miller also has agnostic philosophy profs saying “there is no evidence for evolution, it’s a theory I like and believe, but it’s just a theory in the end”. This would never be said by an actual academic because it’s an insane idea. An actual Prof would know what the definition of a scientific theory is and would mix it up with the colloquial use of the word.
One day Christians will be able to write about college without needing to lie about those they disagree with so as to make their point. But today isn’t that day and Gary Miller has once again written a book that is not worth reading.
Ps. I forgot to mention that Gary Miller constantly notes that agnostics and new age types go to therapy or are on medication for mental health issues as a way of discrediting the worldview. This is despicable and irresponsible. Pls know that if you are one who seeks help for your mental health that it is not because you are not Christian enough.
