Four tribes of warring demigods rule over luck in our world. To survive, Aggie must find out who is murdering them…
As a newly minted Queen of Hearts and a high school senior, Aggie has her hands full. Being a demigoddess. Managing her OCD. Prepping for the SATs. And most of all searching for her mom, who has been brainwashed and remade into a bad luck goddess, the Queen of Spades.
Aggie needs help from her suit of luck gods to get her mom back. But when a prominent Heart is murdered, the Valentines split into factions and question her leadership—because Aggie is one of the suspects. To prove her innocence and regain her suit’s loyalty, Aggie must solve the murder. Her partner on the case? Her roguish sort of ex-boyfriend, the Jack of Hearts. The investigation will pit them against goblins, sylphs, bad luck gods, a mysterious secret order, and even members of their own suit.
And they’ll have to hurry. Because the Queen of Spades has plans, too. Plans that could cast a shadow of misery over the entire world…

Review: Daughter of Diamonds by J. Gabriel Gates ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Daughter of Diamonds is yet another phenomenal installment in the Luck Gods series. J. Gabriel Gates continues to raise the bar with each book, delivering a gripping blend of fantasy, mystery, and deep character development that keeps you fully immersed.
I loved how the plot pieces are finally coming together—everything is starting to align, yet the tension keeps building. The mystery/crime-solving angle added a fresh layer of suspense, and Aggie’s arc is one of my favorites in the series. Watching her wrestle with identity, doubts, and growth while slowly stepping into her true self was incredibly rewarding.
Jack continues to evolve in unexpected ways. He’s more morally gray than I anticipated, and it’s fascinating (and emotional) watching him face the fallout of his choices. And Deuce? The ultimate ride-or-die sidekick who had me on edge with worry. The emotional stakes for these characters are high, and I care so deeply about all of them—Molly, Cleo, Junior, Rachel. Each one feels essential to the story.
This book balances action, introspection, heartbreak, and hope with ease. It’s clear the final showdown is coming, and I cannot wait to see how it all plays out. If you’re not reading this series yet—what are you waiting for?
FYI, I am writing this review after finishing the whole series (Book 1-4 and Novella). SPOILERS ahead if you have not read Book 1-2 and novella.
Daughter of Diamonds picks up right where we left off in Mother of Spades. Bigger revelations, multiple chess pieces moving and the feeling this book gave me was that it was setting up for that upcoming climax of Book 4. Aggie, the newly minted Queen of Hearts becomes widowed within less than 24 hours. Cue the division within the suit and sleuthing detectives trying to figure out who did this. On top of that, Aggie has to deal with her mom being backstabbed by her best friend and how said best friend is trying to become one of the diamonds. The DRAMA. I love. The strained relationships of daughter and mother, girlfriend and boyfriend, and oh so many secrets and oh so many murders. Jack is well on his way to becoming the Jack of All Trades, while Aggies is trying to balance everything out.
I enjoyed this book so much! The reveal, the climax and the reveal at the end wants you clamoring for more!
I just can't get enough of these luck gods! Daughter of Diamonds is the third installment of the fantastic young adult luck gods series and I swear, I can't wait to find out what happens next.
Book three is even more insane than the previous two. There was so much action, intrigue, mystery and holy hell, the betrayel was real in this one. We get to see the characters we know and love develop further and see how they deal with the challenges that are thrown in their way. I don't want to say too much about the plot but it is safe to say my jaw has dropped to the floor a fair amount of times while reading this masterpiece.
This book gave me whiplash with all the insane revelations and honest to gods well thought out plot twists that kept being dropped.
An amazing continuation of an epic series. I would never force anyone to read a book but honestly, you'd be doing yourself a favor!
It can be hard to keep reader interest as more books come out in a series and Gates has really mastered it. This part of Aggie’s story is truly incredible. There is an extra layer of plot with the mystery behind King Michael’s death. On top of trying to figure out that mystery, Aggie is still trying to find a way to save her mom. The personality in the characters really starts to shine, we meet new characters and get to know others more in depth, really adding to the story. This book really kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t wait to figure out what happened next. Truly my favorite one yet.
I have so much to say about this book but having difficulties putting it into words. 😍😍
More in-depth review incoming but short review for now:
Amazing third installment in the Luck Gods series. This book was action packed from the start and I could NOT put it down. I was so sad when it ended but it was a fun ride. This series is just so fun, the world is so interesting and the characters are so well done.
It’s on Kindle Unlimited and I highly recommend giving this series a chance. You’ll fall in love just like I did!
Please note that this is book 3 in the luck gods series please read the previous books if you haven’t, this is a great continuation to Aggie’s story you learn more about the characters that you have all ready met, we get introduced to more of the Diamond’s and there are a few unexpected reveals as the story unfolds we get to find out who killed the Hearts King and why and who replaces them but it's not who everyone expects, we see an addition to the Diamond’s family but its not who you would expect off the bat, and we also get more of Juniors story and the reformation of the Spades obelisk.
Daughter of Diamonds is a riveting read but suffers from faulty editing that distracts from the excellent story line. I don’t understand how this happened because the first two books were impeccable. Perhaps in his eagerness to publish this third installment of his series Mr Gates rushed the editing process. I hope that he will return to his pursuit of editorial excellence in the next book in the series. Regardless I recommend reading this series and I will be reading the next book in the series.
The third book to the series didn’t disappoint!! There were more twists and turns that I didn’t expect. I almost cried at one scene and the Bam it changed in an instant!! More characters were added to the story which aren’t my favorites. My favorite so far is Duce. I am hoping he doesn’t change in the next book. That would make me sad! I do recommend this series, it has a lot going on and the characters are interesting in their own way!! There is a lot of action, mystery, complicated relationships and friendships, romance and twists and turns. Looking forward to the next book!!
Each book in this series gets better and better! A lot happens in this book set a couple of months after book two. Aggie is investigating a certain event that happens in book two so the ’mystery was great!I a few plot twists I was not expecting, and that ending I yelled out I was so surprised. I love a good cliff hanger and J delivered! I truly recommend this series!
I absolutely love this book series - it’s so original, fresh and Aggie is the kind of girl I would have wanted to be best friend’s with as a kid. The writing is engaging, funny, and has so much heart. The balance of luck and personal responsibility, power versus normalcy is fascinating. Definitely recommend!!!
This is book of and to be honest it has been a whirlwind of feelings. Happy , sad, betrayed, grateful. There is more but you get the point. Right now I’m annoyed. Someone I trusted. I should know better then to trust anyone. I’m emotionally invested now though and need to see what happens next.
I highly enjoyed this book! I felt it expanded on the characters and world. You can tell this is all leading up to something epic with all the moving pieces. I’m excited to see where the story goes in the next installment. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved the book. Again j Gabriel Gates has written an amazing story with great world building and fascinating characters. Thr cliff hanger at the end was mind blowing. Definitely makes you want book four.
Loved book 3. The world building was fantastic. The characters are fantastic and fun to watch as they grew and changed. The cliff hanger at the end was infuriating for sure! I lok forward to book 4.
I enjoy this series and keep grabbing up the next release. I love the concept of the luck gods and the tie in to the card suits. I like the normal girl becoming a super hero. Lots of action and lots of fun characters.
