This quarterly publication, known for its independent spirit, blends attractive design, quality writing, and a personal touch. It introduces readers to timeless books that, though not currently trendy, offer enduring appeal. With a good-natured, unassuming, and slightly quirky approach, it feels more like a well-read friend than a typical literary magazine.
Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).
If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.
Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.
Not my most favorite edition of the quarterlies. I was left though with a newfound knowledge and appreciate for Herodotus. Maggie Ferguson’s The Temptation of Mrs Harris had me scurrying to my bookshelves to see if I owned the “ghastly” American edition which drops the H in Harris to ‘Arris’. Felt reassured I had the third imprint by Michael Joseph but less reassured my two other books in the series are the ghastly Doubledays. Must rectify that in 2023… scurries off to check Abe.
Overall, a lovely collection of essays curated by the well read and classy folks over at Slightly Foxed. Always a treat.
Another charming instalment from the good folks at SF.
for those of you not familiar with this publication, here's some 'blurb', fyi:
"Slightly Foxed is a rather unusual kind of book review, informal and independent-minded, and its readers tend to be independent-minded too – people who don’t want to read only what the big publishers are hyping and the newspapers are reviewing. Each issue contains 96 pages of personal recommendations for books of lasting interest, old and new, both fiction and non-fiction – books that have inspired, amused, and sometimes even changed the lives of the people who write about them. And when we say write, that’s what we mean. Slightly Foxed contributors have a diverting way with words and are never boring.
Eclectic, elegant, and just the right size to read in bed or slip into your pocket, Slightly Foxed is a reminder that, even in tough times, the value of a good book doesn’t change. So why not give it a try? You’ll be in excellent company."
