Author Christina (C.A.) Larmer was born in remote Papua New Guinea where close encounters with witchdoctors and cannibal progeny (no, really), gave her a morbid taste for mystery that has culminated in more than a dozen crime novels, including four in the Amazon-bestselling Agatha Christie Book Club series, two Posthumous Mysteries, seven Ghostwriter Mysteries, a thriller/suspense, and a stand-alone novel called An Island Lost, which is set in deepest Papua—where else?

The sixth book so far in this excellent series and I have read all of them. I believe there is another on the way set on the Indian Pacific train which I will look forward to.

In Gone Guest the guest is really gone, disappearing from a party in a Gothic mansion. Our team of super sleuths are soon at work but when two dead bodies are discovered the police forbid them from continuing their investigations. Of course they do continue and the mystery gets deeper and deeper.

Another really good episode in the series. Four stars

When book club member, Ronnie Westera, invited her fellow sleuths and club members to her big 75th birthday bash out at the isolated Westera estate, they had no idea what they were getting into. Before the group had managed a full glass of champagne, the fireworks started. But one of Ronnie's nephews, Seamus, said his twin was missing, who was supposed to be doing the speeches. As the book club members, Alicia, Queenie, Missie, Lynette and Perry, spread out to search for Sebastian, other nefarious deeds were occurring in the house. But finding a dead body on the tennis court, and blood specks heading into the bush brought the police out to the estate. In lockdown, with nowhere to go and nothing (that they were allowed) to do, the book club put their heads together to work out what was happening, why and how...

Gone Guest is the 6th in The Murder Mystery Book Club series by Aussie author C.A. Larmer and I loved it. It's awhile since I read #5 but it didn't take long for it all to come back to me. The group are tenacious, determined and speak their minds - and always get the job done! Highly recommended.

J'ai adoré la suite de l'histoire de ces personnages un peu loufoques, l'intrigue et l'enquête où j'avais d'ailleurs encore tout faux ! Le récit était passionnant et j'ai déjà hâte de lire la suite

Another great Mystery Book Club read

I love the quirky characters in the book club. It seems that no matter where they go they find a murder. This one involved one of their own, A definite brush off from the authorities and a lot of use of their little grey cells. I would absolutely recommend this book. I would tell everyone to start with the first book and get the back stories of the characters. This is one author that does not spend half the book telling you about the past books. (Thank you, Ms . Le Club des amateurs de romans policiers s'apprête à délaisser ses débats passionnants sur les mérites comparés des reines du polar anglais, et le thé qui les accompagne, pour fêter au champagne l'anniversaire de l'un de ses membres, Ronnie. L'événement s'annonce d'autant plus mémorable qu'il se tient dans un manoir gothique isolé, Westeraview, perché en haut d'une falaise face à l'océan. On se croirait dans un roman de leur idole, Agatha Christie. Et plus encore lorsque l'un des convives, Sebastian, le neveu de Ronnie, disparaît mystérieusement. Alors que les feux d'artifices se mettent à crépiter, nos amis se lancent à sa recherche dans l'immense bâtisse...et à leur grande surprise tombent sur le corps d'une femme que l'on vient d'assassiner. L'enquête s'annonce d'autant plus palpitante qu'il s'agit à n'en point douter d'une affaire de famille...

Je retrouve avec plaisir le club des amateurs de roman policier pour leur dernière aventure. Nous retrouvons toute la bande pour ce qui s'apparente à une partie de Cluedo géante. Notre club de détectives amateurs se retrouve dans la vaste prorpiété de leur amie Ronnie pour son anniversaire. Mais lorsqu'un des invités disparaît et qu'un autre est retrouvé mort sur le court de tennis, rien ne vas plus. Le club se retrouve à mener l'enquête à al façon d'un Cluedo géant.

Encore une fois, j'ai réussi à être prise dans l'enquête et même si j'ai eu des soupçons rapidement, je n'avais pas complétement juste dans ma théorie. Mais l'autrice a réussi à me surprendre lors de ma lecture par des éléments que je n'ai pas vu venir. J'ai passé un très bon moment lecture auprès de ce club et certains personnages que j'avais du mal à apprécier / comprendre leur rôle dans cette saga me sont devenus sympathiques.

Je ne vais pas mentir : cette lecture avait plutôt mal commencé pour moi.

Dès les premières pages, jai été freinée par un personnage en particulier (linspectrice de police), que je nai absolument pas supporté. Antipathique au possible (et sûrement volontairement), elle est très présente au début, ce qui a rendu mon immersion assez compliquée.

Mais malgré ça impossible de lâcher.

Parce que lambiance est juste délicieuse. Un manoir gothique isolé, une fête danniversaire qui vire au cauchemar, une disparition mystérieuse, puis un meurtre On se croirait littéralement plongé dans un roman de Agatha Christie. Et clairement, cest tout ce que jaime.

Très vite, je me suis laissée embarquer par lintrigue. Javais envie de comprendre, de soupçonner tout le monde, de jouer les détectives aux côtés du Club. Les rebondissements senchaînent, les révélations aussi, et le côté Cluedo grandeur nature fonctionne super bien.

Résultat : même si ce nest pas mon tome préféré à cause de ce début un peu difficile, ça reste une lecture prenante, efficace, et toujours aussi addictive dans cette saga cosy crime.

Et évidemment je lirai le prochain. Parce que ce genre denquête, ça ne se refuse pas 😌

Alicia et toute la bande sont invités à l'anniversaire de Roonie, une très belle fête dans sa demeure (digne d'Agatha Christie), avec la famille de celle-ci. 🎂

Si la famille du côté de son défunt mari est réticente à l'idée de recevoir le club de lecture, le côté de Roonie est ravi de les rencontrer ! Notamment les deux neveux de Roonie : Sebastian et Seamus, qu'elle aime plus que tout. 🤓

Mais la fête tourne au vinaigre quand on découvre le corps d'une jeune femme sur le court de tennis... 😯

J'ai particulièrement bien aimé ce tome ! Je n'ai pas pu deviner le meurtrier avant la fin, et le nombre de suspects ainsi que les indices rendent l'enquête plus complexe que d'autres tomes.

Le club est toujours aussi chouette, avec une équipe haute en couleurs !

Gone Guest absolutely lives up to my expectations of a CA Larmer whodunnit! I suspected all the suspects, and a couple of characters out-the-box. I didn’t guess the culprit/culprits on this occasion, but the clues were all there and the red herrings both relevant and intriguing.
I love the plot, love the characters, and love the intrigue.
