Should I read in order?
It’s not totally necessary but there’s some minor character cross over. The series is so unique and fun though!

Basic plot:
Henry agrees to escort Princess Isabel on a visit to Spain to diffuse political tensions.

Give this a try if you want:
- Luis I reign - 1872
- Lisbon, Portugal and Spain setting
- royalty – heroine is a princess
- scientist hero
- bathing machines at the beach!
- house party/vacation vibes
- class difference
- political intrigue/light mystery
- romantic and poetic prose
- strip trivia
- Rapunzel vibes
- protective hero (and maybe a bit of jealousy)
- hero falls first
- bodyguard vibes – the hero is roped into escorting the princess
- mid to higher steam – I counted 5 full scenes – some I combined together as they were very close and it is a longer novel (details at end of review). There is something a bit light about her scenes – more emotional than explicit.

Ages:
- Hero is 32, heroine is 22

First line:
The garden door was enchanted.

My thoughts:
I adore Siniscalchi’s writing!! She has such a beautiful writing style that just pulls me in and gives me all the feels. I find myself lost (in the best way) in her unique settings. Plots that are interesting and lead me on mini research sessions because I’m so curious. Characters that are so memorable and lively that I feel like I know them personally as they nestle in my heart. I find her stories carry a level of romance I don’t find every day.

Princess Isabel is someone I thought I wouldn’t like. She’s a bit prudish and very focused on morality. Her duty is to her brother, the king, and her country. She wields control with an iron fist over what little she dominates being a woman. But, I just loved her. I adored her slow realization that maybe she can open up, explore, embrace life, and stop suffocating herself. She’s such an honorable and strong female lead.

Henrique is the classic rake – a bit playful, teasing, always up for fun. But we get a depth here that really anchored my heart to him. I loved his emotional turmoil over knowing what he wants but shouldn’t have.

Something that shines through in this book is the research that goes into it. The Portugal and Spain backdrops are gorgeous. One scene I really appreciated were the bathing machines. I have only seen them mentioned a couple times in HR, but this scene I felt like I could actually feel how it was to experience one. (If you haven’t seen them before, look up pictures!)

I’ve read this whole series so far and each book is so special and unique. I think I’m still most attached to Pedro and Anne’s story (book 2) but this is a very close second. So much to love about this novel.

Quotes/spoiler-y thoughts:Any mistakes/typos are my own

Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.

Stand Alone or Series: This title is book three of a currently three book series. While I believe some characters from previous books appeared in this title, I didn't find myself confused or distracted by other romantic couples or their stories.
.
Ever read a book and just know that the author did their research and are well versed in the details of the era in which they are creating a story in? That's exactly how I feel about Giovanna Siniscalchi. If you live for historical romance novels rich in historical details, descriptions, and world building, definitely give this book a chance. On top of weaving a beautiful love story, the world in which Siniscalchi has created in Myths is astounding. I squeeled with delight when House of Worth was mentioned as I am a serious lover of historical fashion.
.
I found myself truly captivated by the struggles that both Isbell and Henrique endure and work through throughout the storyline, both personally and as a couple. Their love story is beautifully intertwined with just a lovely variety of steam scenes to create a realistic enemies to lovers plot, which is probably my favorite troupe in an HR book. The anticipation!
.
I will admit, when a book focuses on male friendships and conversations, I usually get a bit bored. Usually, authors tend utilize male to male conversations to push the male/female relationship forward. However, in Myths, the male/male friendships and conversations give more depth to the story and help to drive the plot within the love story plot along. It was SO refreshing. It felt much like both Isabell AND Henrique's story.

We liked a lot of things /about/ the book: the setting in 1870s Portugal and Spain; the push and pull between honor, duty, and love; the prude vs. the rake. Regardless of how interested we were in these elements, we just didn't find the characters or writing compelling. At times it almost felt like it was a work in translation. This might work for you, especially since the book is set in a different culture and language. For us, it just made it more difficult to identify with the romance.

There's nothing really wrong with the book - nothing particularly problematic, no moment that left us scratching our heads about the characters' motivation. This one just wasn't for us. We really hesitated between 3 and 4 stars with this one, so settled on 3.5 rounded to 4.

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the book.

Fun Fact: Henrique Penafiel (mmc) has dimples!!
Now that the fun fact is out of the way, let’s get to the actual review!

Firstly, thank you so much Giovanna Siniscalchi for giving me the chance to read this amazing ARC! I absolutely could not put this book down after the first couple chapters, to the point where I ended up staying up really late just to finish it. The book was so beautifully written (I have shared one of my favorite quotes from the book on the next slide), had an amazing plot, flow and kept me hooked throughout.

One of my favorite parts about this book was that at the start of every chapter there was a quote which always gave you a small idea of what the chapter would be about. It made starting a new chapter so much better and exciting. You could also see how much time and effort the author spent on researching the time period, locations and people as there were many characters and events inspired by real historical figures and occurrences. In fact, one of the locations mentioned in the novel is a landmark of Braganza in the north of Portugal. I loved that the plot had just the right amount of romance, angst, and politics. The 𝒸𝒽𝑒𝓂𝒾𝓈𝓉𝓇𝓎 and 𝖙𝖊𝖓𝖘𝖎𝖔𝖓 between Isabel and Henrique was also so so so good that I could literally feel it through the screen and Henrique totally had me 𝘴𝘸𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨. Some of my favorite Henrique and Isabel scenes were their first meet in the garden, the tower scene and the duck scene (which totally had me laughing). Oh and did I mention? The book is dual POV so I got the chance to read Henrique’s inner turmoil as he was pining and getting jealous over Isabel all while trying to deny that he had feelings for her. The mutual pining over each other all while trying to deny that they have any sort of feelings for each other was honestly so much fun to read. The side characters in this book were also very well developed and interesting, I can’t wait to read some of their stories as well.

There wasn’t anything about this book that I outright disliked and I can’t wait for its official release (Sep 20th). I totally recommend reading this book if you are a fan of historical romance, opposites attract and enemies to lovers.

First, I’m thankful to been asked to be in the ARC team for this book! This book is the third in the “The Winemakers” triology but they are standalones. You do not need to read them in order, although I read the first one and help me to connect some dots and identify people from the other books.

Now my review: AMAZING! The story, how is written, the author’s knowledge about Portugal and the spicy scenes! I fell in love with Henrique and Isabel relationship, they started as enemies and finished as lovers. I enjoy reading all the details, I was unable to put my kindle down. I had mixed feelings about finishing the book because I didn’t want to finish…. The side characters are well developed as well (I loved Dio) and Henrique was my favorite, sexy scientist who know how to teach (pretty well) 🌶️🥵 and also I love reading about empowering women specially during those times.

Isabel & Henrique
*
He laughed as if her delight made him weightless.
*
Isabel is a stickler for royal rules and proper behaviour. Everyone thinks she's rigid. She keeps her ladies hidden, proper and away from rakes, not realising she's suffocating them. After spending time with Henrique in Spain, she lets go a little and enjoys herself just a tiny bit. Never forgetting the crown on her head and the royal duties that entails.
Henrique is not a regular Viscount. He's a scientist, which is not always regarded in good light. But from the moment he meets Joan of Arc, he changes his rakish ways.
They are enemies to lovers, he is her brother's friend and they are forced to be together in Spain. It is a great combo of playful banter and amazing side characters. Dio is my favourite, obviously.
This book was a breath of fresh air. I am used to historical books so I expected something similar. I was pleasantly surprised when the book had political issues, included more languages (I loved the way the author explained the words in a way that wasn't just a sentence with a literal translation next to it), different cultures, both characters with a high standing in society, etc... You're transported back in time to two beautiful countries watching two great characters fall in love. ❤️
*I received an ARC via Booksprout and gave my honest opinion.

Thank you so much to the author of this book for having me on her ARC team. I am not usually a historical romance lover. However, I just knew that I had to give this one a go when I read the blurb, and I have zero regrets.

Isabel and Henrique have such amazing chemistry throughout the story, and I loved watching them come out of their (cicada) shells as they fought not only their feelings for each other, but fought to save their country as well. Because this book is written from the perspectives of both of our main characters, we get to have so much insight as to who these characters are and how their feelings evolve throughout the book. This book is a perfect blend of intrigue, drama, spice, angst, and comedy - The Truth About Myths has it all.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of both history and romance. Not only will you get to witness an amazing love story, but you will learn a lot of Portuguese and Spanish history along the way.

This book was extraordinary! Such a delightful read. This story had it all, it was angsty and had so much pinning between the two MCs and I loved every second of it.

Isabel the prudish Portuguese princess, so set in her virtuous ways and outmoded ideas of how women should be gets her whole world rocked by Henrique the sexy Viscount scientist and best friend to her dissolute brother the King, Luis. There was so much to enjoy about this story, the historic backdrop of tension between Portugal and Spain was perfect. Not to mention all the supporting characters, I mean could Dio be any yummier😍. I loved the progression of both the MC, Isabel started out so exasperating and I was worried there was no hope for her but I loved her transformation. Henrique was amazing throughout and I loved how real he felt, he wasn’t perfect but he was self aware.

Another factor I enjoyed was the many comparisons of the myth of Hercules to Henrique and the cicadas to Isabel, as well as the relevance of ducks and their mating habits. Overall this was a beautiful story, so well done, it was funny, had great action and banter and had the perfect amount of steam, that matched the emotional connection of the characters.

I feel very fortunate to have been granted an advance copy of this story as a part of the ARC team. The Truth About Myths will be released on September 20th 2023.

Scientist by day and playful rake by night, Henrique, the dashing Viscount Penafiel, is set on leaving Portugal for Oxford where his work is appreciated and valued. Only the king, his best friend, refuses his request unless he agrees to a final mission: babysitting the king’s little sister on a trip to a Spanish seaside resort.

Determined to lead by example, Isabel de Orleans, royal princess with a clever mind and a prudish attitude rules her life with restraint, a strong sense of duty and a strict moral code. Willing to do anything for her country, a diplomatic mission to Spain is the chance to prove herself.
Only her escort leaves much to be desired…

A daring game of cat and mouse, pushing the boundaries of propriety, has both their hearts put on the line until an exiled Spanish heir throws a spanner in the works. And when secrets and subterfuge threaten Isabel’s security and Portugal’s independence, Henrique is forced to act.
Saving the princess and locking her is his tower, the only question remaining is who’s rescuing whom? And will their bond be stronger, than their duty to king and country?

📚 This is a magical tale of a lady who dons her armour - her tiara - every single day in order to make a difference in a world where women hold little power, and the man she unknowingly put under her spell. On his own herculean quest he happily chisels away at her beliefs, only to find his own walls crumbling.
History, politics and myths are intertwined with romance, desire and love to perfection! The banter is witty and quick, the tension sizzling, the steam scrumptious and the plot riveting! Choosing between head and heart is impossible, so be ready to have your heartstrings pulled by this enchanting story!
Thank you to Giovanna Siniscalchi for this book! I absolutely loved it and highly recommend this delectable trip to Victorian Portugal to everyone!

FYI, the entire Winemakers series is superb! What are you waiting for?

Y’all, I loved Henrique. And Dio (I hope he gets a book!).

Anyway, this was really good! We have Isabel, our prim and prudish princess. And Henrique, our baby boy scientist bodyguard. Isabel is being sent to Spain by the king (her brother) and he makes Henrique go as basically a bodyguard. Isabel and Henrique really don’t get along and sparks fly. But there’s also an attraction there that they can’t hide.

I really liked the romance. I felt like they worked really well together and brought out good qualities in one another. I also liked the Royal court intrigue. I love the drama and power plays and it was so fun.

I kinda felt like Isabel was hard to relate to- she was just so proper! But she ends up being likable all the same. I do wonder, what happened to Dolly?

The Truth About Myths is a historical enemy to lover’s romance tale and the third book in fabulous The Winemakers series.
It is easy to imagine the world and time period as Giovanna writes with rich historical detail, descriptions, and world building, with such passion and in a vibrant style.
This Regency romance is set in Portugal and Spain amongst the Monarchy and court politics, secrets and scheming. This beautiful love story shows the difficulties and struggles they face with their relationship.
There is heartbreak, compassion and passion, tenderness, danger and tension, angst and animosity, chemistry and romance.
I love that it was told in dual POV as we learned so much about these characters and especially Henrique’s rakish ways. Their journey is filled with sense of duty, patriotism, and unexpected twists and turns.
The swoon worthy playboy Viscount Henrique doesn’t believe in love, and he has big dreams, but he is about to be whacked over the head with it. He is witty, charming, sexy and an unapologetic rake. It’s hard not to like him.
Princess Isabel is the epitome of entitled princess. She is a determined, strong and intelligent woman who cares about doing the right thing for women and is about to find out there is much more to life.
I loved their wit, banter, chemistry, and the perfect amount of push pull denial and tension as they learn more about each other. I often found myself laughing at their antics or situations they found themselves in.
I recommend reading this book if you are a fan of historical romance, enemies to lovers, opposites attract forced proximity stories.

This whole winemakers series is just 10/10. I can’t even accurately capture the tropes here, because this book refuses to be just one thing.

Isabel is, what my mother would say, “on her high horse” about morality and living a virtuous life befitting a princess. As a result, she’s not exactly likable at the beginning. But throughout the course of the story, she learns some hard truths about humanity and her place in it - not as a perfect princess but as an imperfect woman. She makes tough choices and struggles with what is expected of her and her place in society and by her country.

Henrique - he gets essentially voluntold bribery/light blackmail by the King to accompany Isabel to a summer house party in Spain. There are policial reasons for this doing with the complex relations between Portugal and Spain. Though not is all as it seems in that respect. Henrique is entrusted to escort Isabel on this trip. Neither is exactly happy about it, but slowly he is able to show her it’s ok to experience lusty and sensual things. Not everyone can be distilled down solely to reputations. People are more.

Underpinning this whole thing is political intrigue, blackmail, court politics. It is an engrossing tale, that stands up to the romance without overshadowing it.

This whole series has been poetic, lush, vibrant, and epic. I can’t recommend it enough!

After reading this book, I have decided that I actually love historical romance. This book is amazingly written and allows you to picture everything non your head with a clear concise picture. What happens when the person chosen to escort you is your brothers best friend but also a huge rake? All of that is described in the book and you won't be let down. This is a very quick read because the words flow off the pages and you will get caught up in the story. There is a banter between the characters that has me wishing for more. The passion and the chemistry is off the charts in this book. While the steam in the book is amazing, you will also love the story line. I love the way that the character growths also involves the political satire of the time period. This book has so much depth that I am sold on reading everything the author writes. Even though this is the third book in the series, I feel that you could just pick it up and read it. I am going to read the others in the series because I can't get enough.

This book was very enjoyable. I really loved the banter between Henrique and Isabel. They had a lovely game of cat and mouse/ forbiddeness that I found quite enjoyable. I haven't read too many romances that feature royalty, but I find the trope to be a lot of fun, especially in a historical setting.
Lovely writing, and a really enjoyable story.

I received The Truth About Myths early, as a member of the ARC team. I am grateful to have been allowed to read this book early. I was not completely sure what to expect when I opened this book, but by the summary I was quite curious.

Isabel, a spitfire and a woman held captive by her commitment to virtue, and Henrique, a scientist with a rake's reputation preceding him, seemed the least likely to ever get along and I must say...I was intrigued to see where this might go.

This book involved some of my favorite tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and slow burn (it was definitely a slowwww burn lol). The author did a wonderful job with this book, giving her characters adequate time to develop and make their choices. I would fully recommend this book to anyone who is a lover of history or science, but be sure you remember...this book is most definitely spicy!

The Truth About Myths is part of The Winemakers series : Book 3. And can be read as a stand-alone. I fell hard for this beautiful cover and was drawn to it because the MMC was a scientist. The author did a great job with it.
I would say that this was a slow burn romance that’s steamy intimate. I loved the romantic parts, especially the last 10% of the novel. The writing was good but I felt like it dragged in the beginning.
Thanks to BookSirens for this complimentary eArc. All thoughts are mine.

I loved reading this book.

I loved the storyline and the relationship/ build up to a relationship between the main 2 characters. The banter, the jokes, the talks and victories togheter were very nice to read
The misscommunication was a bit annoying, isabel saw him kissing another woman. When she tells him he just laughs, calls her jealous and doesnt apologize. Eventho he could have easily told her that he got kissed against his will he went that route.

Isabel is a very naive girl, who knows nothing about passion and sees it as a sin. Wich is actually for that time a good thing. She also loved her country very much, the loyalty and the sacrafices she has and made for her country are very admirable

It does have the word swaggered in it a couple times and i absolutly despise that word.

She does say how she lost her brothers, 1 to a disease and 1 to an assasssin, i would have loved to learn more about how that went and how she felt with all that. But just a mention is all you get.

Even when it was the thing that brought the main characters to eachother, the dissrespect Henrique (MMC). Had towards a princess was insane, i cant imagine it could actually happen in that time without beeing executed. The disrspect in the whole book against a royal actually didnt make sense at all.

I loved the jokes from Henrique, he was really funny and charming.

Henrique does give isabel the nickname isa wich is very cute but it doesnt get used alot.

Overall i really enjoyed the book, it was a very good historical romance.

I've not seen enough men of the purring variety after ACOTAR and I have to say, Henrique my man gets free pass.

What is historical romance but oldies engaging in various *eggplant activities* without the Church knowing.

I've read Taste of Light by Gio (my first ever historical romance) she was number one and still remains because Henrique is my kinda man. I want to do bad things to him. I also want to make sexy science with him too. He's a scientist and three conversations away from dissecting the Princess of Portugal, Isabel. Isabel is a Princess by profession (a celebrity of their times) but she's also a feminist and women's rights champion. We dig her from the start.

Henrique is blackmailed by her bro to keep an eye on his Lil sis as he worked out some problems he created. However, it was such hardship for Henrique to keep his eyes on Isabel, mostly because he was *hard* most of the time by doing just that (keeping his eye on her) Somehow he manages to stay for most of the book without kidnapping her (I did say most of the book *wink*)

Now Isabel thinks she needs to serve the morality council or some stuff ancient ladies believed because during those times a woman's worth was in her hymen. She couldn't engage in acts of sexual nature because "rules" (who comes up with these man) But our scientist guy engaged Isa in a really efficient practical that makes her see stars (literally) and she changes her alliance from Old Ladies Club to Feminism Wins club. PS: her brother is a dufus.

Mind you though, Isabel is one of the most complex, strong characters I've ever read about. It's not easy being a woman in that age where the world was controlled by bored old men.

Anyway, Henrique is a piece of work. Now I need a Diomedes work because somewhere along the way I fell in love with that man so now I demand a Dio book.

I DEVOURED the Pedro cameo because before Henrique and I were a thing he was my main man.

This book has everything. From a strong, scientific discourse about sex and love to actual practical stuff (the explicit kind) I'm in love. As I always say, I'd ride Henrique any day from Sunday and twice on Public Holidays

Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the previous books in this series I was looking forward to this third novel and I was not disappointed. I was once again captivated by the authors wonderful writing style and transported back in time, due to the descriptive narrative and added historical details, all of which made me feel immersed in the era and the story. The storyline follows Princess Isabel de Orleans who does her duty for her brother the King and for Portugal, and so travels to Spain to help with a diplomatic crisis. Accompanying Isabel is her brothers best friend, the charming but rakish Henrique, Viscount Penafiel. Henrique believes Isabel's morals are outdated, and she thinks his philandering ways are shocking, but soon discovers that behind his facade he is a caring man. Their mutual attraction turns to lust, but the sister of Henrique's best friend and a Princess should be out of his reach.

Once in Spain they meet Alfonso who is a king without a throne and soon the Bourbon is showing great interest in Isabel, threatening Portugal's independence. This results in Henrique having to take drastic measures to save not only his country but Isabel, and their love. I loved this historical romance set during the 19th-century amongst the opulent monarchy of the time. The story is full of drama, romance, passion, love and lust, and also patriotism. The unexpected plot twists kept me hooked throughout and I was kept happily turning the pages. I loved the main characters, and the chemistry between Isabel and Henrique sizzled off the page leading to some steamy scenes. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop and I felt engaged with them both due to the dual POV storyline. An enjoyable and engaging read, and one which I recommend.

Thank you Giovanna Siniscalchi for gifting me a copy of The truth About Myths in return for my honest review.

4/5 stars

When I first heard the premise of this book I was intrigued. A Princess who would do anything for her country and a suave Viscount sent to protect her. What more could you ask for.

I’ve read a lot of historical fiction books that take place in England, Scotland and France. So I was thrilled to find a new country to explore. It was additionally intriguing because I am half Portuguese and love all aspects of the place and culture.

I loved how knowledgeable Giovanna is about Portugal and how wonderfully she included details about it. She has a wonderful writing style loved the connection Isabel and Henri have with each other!

I’m not usually an enemies to lovers fan but this one was done so well with the growth from both characters being written wonderfully! There was plenty of time for both to develop feelings for each other and figure out what they want. I also enjoyed the side characters and they were well written and made me want to learn more about them!

I also really like each of the quotes that were included before each chapter started. It was almost like a little clue or sneak peak into the coming chapter!

If you are a fan of history, science or empowering women then this is definitely a must!

Check out this lush, full-bodied, fine wine of a book!

This is the fourth book in The Winemaker Series. I wish I had read the first three because I think I would have enjoyed them. Giovanna has immense talent for crafting rich, descriptive prose that draws in the reader. Setting the tales in Portugal (and Spain in this book) gives historical romance readers a chance to leave the ballrooms and back alleys of London and experience a new, vibrant life across the Channel.

I absolutely adored the character of Henrique, Viscount Penefiel aka Henri. He is a scientist but he's also extremely lovable and charming. He is a true sunshine. However, Princess Isabel was much harder for me to love. She is very much the grump. She's full of pride and doesn't see the women of her court as independent people. She assumes everyone wants what she wants--order, tradition, loveless lives. She's very overbearing and hard to love. TG for Henri's levity.

Bc Isabel is so very rule driven and adheres to society's expectations of her, she accepts her brother's request to go to Spain to defuse a "political situation" on his behalf. Unbeknownst to Isabel, her brother sends Henri to act as guard and keep an eye on the situation. And at this point, she's already decided she cannot stand Henri despite the pants feelings he gives her. (She doesn't understand pants feelings and thinks they are bad.)

There is a lot of political intrigue in this book that lost my attention at times. I found myself confused by the various players and historical events that I had forgotten since high school (if I ever knew them). But even so, I, like Henri, persevered to get to an HEA. Bc once we got to it, it was so delicious. I enjoyed watching Isa fall for Henri. She comes across as hating men and Henri calls her out for it, making her face some uncomfortable truths about herself.

Lastly, I do hope that Isa's brother and his estranged wife get their HEA. Perhaps that will be next?

Princess Isabel de Orleans would do anything for Portugal. When her brother, the king, asks for her help, she agrees to travel to Spain to defuse a diplomatic crisis. Henrique, Viscount Penafiel, has no roots. He prepares to sail to greener pastures when his best friend blackmails him into accompanying his sister to an aristocratic-filled seaside resort. With his wit and ever-present grin, Henrique delights in showing how Isabel's morals are outdated. Isabel abhors philandering but is entranced by the caring man hidden below a devil-may-care attitude. Alfonso is a king sans a throne. When the Bourbon's meteoric interest in Isabel threatens Portugal's independence, Henrique has to take drastic measures to save his country and Isabel's love.
The third book in the series & another page turner. I loved both Henrique & Isabel, he’s a scientist & she’s a princess, their chemistry sizzled & I was invested in their journey to a HEA. There’s also witty banter, intrigue & of course romance, I read this book immediately after reading the previous two in the series & loved my journey to southern Europe such a change from ballrooms
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I was interested in The Truth About Myths because a rake as a chaperone? I'm in. I really enjoyed Henrique and Isabelle's story! In a way they had very opposite journeys. Isabelle needed to learn to experience pleasure and Henrique needed to learn to care about one person. I have read quite a few virgin heroine and rake books and this one stood out to me in that it explored how the messages the heroine had been given her whole life about intimacy and men shaped her views. Isabelle has a very sexist view of the world to start that has actually been taught to her by other women. I also really enjoyed the Rapunzel vibes. I mean if the person you love is in danger but they don't realize it locking them in a tower is fine right? Henrique thinks so. I recommend this one if you are a fan of historical romance! The unique setting and exploration of intimacy make it a really interesting and fun read!

I love a good period piece romance. This is my first book by Giovanna Siniscalchi, and I was thoroughly impressed. Her writing style was perfect. The story was well-written and intriguing with excellent flow. The characters are intriguing and well-developed. I absolutely loved the setting. Giovanna makes Spain and Portugal [in that time period] seem so beautiful and romantic. Princess Isabel and Viscount Henrique are super sweet together. Their chemistry is intense, and their banter is spot on. The Princess has a duty to the King, who happens to be his brother, and to her country. But that doesn’t stop her from wanting to embrace life and love with the Viscount. The push and pull between them gave me enemies to lovers’ vibes. Viscount Henrique is such a swoon worthy rake. I loved his playful side. This story was beautifully written and very entertaining. An absolute must read for historical romance fans.

Thank you to the author for gifting me this sweet and fun book in exchange for an honest review.

The author excels in using literary devices to weave a lush and sensual romance between a princess, whose morals are as stiff as her stays, and a viscount, whose morals are totally flexible. The obstacles to Isabel’s and Henrique’s romance are patriotism and politics, the ramifications of her brother’s infidelities, and her initial prudishness. Siniscalchi lulls readers into an almost zen like state with the sumptuous descriptions of Spain and Portugal’s landscape and culture. Readers are easily ensnared in this story, and if you are not careful, you could lose your head to the female praying mantis called Isabel… according to Henrique. I must also commend the author for her humorous expressions spoken primarily by Henrique. They are usually comparisons of science/nature with the human condition. 😂 [ Telling his friend Dio to feed his bacteria, whilst he was busy babysitting Isabel. ]
I have received an ARC from the author through BookSirens and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.
I purchased this novel before finishing it, and the two previous in this series.

Just when I’m starting to think I’m getting a little bit tired of the same old historical romances…

Giovanna Siniscalchi drops a new book.

Her books just feel different because of,
💜 the Portugal (and Spain) setting.
💜 the way the characters feel so Portuguese—from the cadence of their speech, to their gestures, their culture and religion, even something as simple as saying “Dom Quixote” instead of Don Quixote. So immersive!
💜 the completely different vibe to the monarchy and aristocracy in Portugal (especially in this 1870s setting where monarchies were falling and anarchists were unaliving royals all over Europe).

I loved all the myth and philosophy references in here. I loved that our hero was a Natural Philosopher, not a scientist. I loved how the brainy discussions between our hero and heroine were so un-modern. Like, they were debating whether man was ruled by his conscience or natural instinct (and it was all tied into the romance plot) and I was living!

Tying our hero’s rake reformation arc to a critique of utilitarian philosophy was fun. Tying our heroine’s starchy character arc to untranslatable words that were deeply embedded in her culture was fun.

Just another unique historical romance story in this atmospheric and well-researched series 💜

I received an advanced review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Most authors can write.. but this author can write write. I mean, this book is soo beautifully written and it’s abundantly clear that they have done their research on this time period. The result is a romance that is immersed in its history without feeling too weighty and you really get a feel for the instability of the Spanish (and European) political landscape following the defeat of Napoleon.

The recurring imagery of the cicadas shedding their carapace that was woven throughout the book as a metaphor for Isabel’s own metamorphosis was *chef’s kiss* and the use of mythological excerpts as epigraphs really took it to the next level and beyond!

The main characters, Isabel and Henrique – I loved them both so much! Again, this author really has a gift because these characters were, to me, wonderfully written and fully realized. I’m halfway to declaring myself a citizen of whatever territory these two are ruling together!!

⚜️Duty vs Love, the old age question right?

⚔️Bodyguard romance-rake/ scientist princess,☸️roadtrip, 🔥slow burn 🥵 the tension between the FMC & MMC, are exhilarating! 🌶️sex lessons (pss…the flower 🌸 scene) , 🇵🇹 romance takes place outside London, in Portugal (one of my favourite places & i just ❤️their pastel de nata & espresso, now, i’m hungry) and fantastic ✨sparks fly-banter

If you’re into all of the above & intrigue by political romance especially when there are some major manoeuvring/ ambitions involve, you will enjoy this!
And you, don’t need to read the first 2 book of the series to enjoy this!

My only complaint is I wish i was more invested in the story 🤣

Thanks for the arc giovannasiniscalchi All thoughts & opinion are mine!
P/s, CaN’T WAIT for the STEPBACK, i’m a sucker for it!
