This was a little piece of unexpected magic, I’m actually gutted that I’ve missed the first two parts of this series. I need to add them to the never ending list!
Tanz is a medium, a reluctant medium with a fear in ghosts and psychic powers that are rapidly developing. When she’s asked to help solve the mystery of a missing woman, she accidentally stumbles into a huge historical injustice that only she can see right. In Tanz’ real world life she’s also an actress. The balance between the two makes for a madcap adventure that is equal parts hilarious and deeply moving. Every single side character brings something special to the story. I think Frank might’ve been my favourite.
I didn’t see this one coming, it was fantastic. Brilliantly narrated by the author.

Oh how I love this fabulous series!
I found the first two books on BorrowBox so was able to catch up with them before listening to this and they are all utterly brilliant! Funny, engaging, heartwarming and a fascinating insight into the psychic world.
Tracy Whitwell is not only the author, but also the narrator who does an outstanding job of bringing Geordie actress turned Medium, Tanz, to life, along with all of the other very loveable characters.
I adore Tanz, her little Nan and her dead bestie, Frank, who is never far away.
In this book, Tanz’s psychic abilities notch up a level when she finds she is able to put herself in a situation in the past and influence the outcome of some otherwise horrifying events.
I cannot wait for the next one!

I love this series and though it's taken me a while to get to this instalment of Tanz's story, I am happy to have read it. Talk about intertwining threads. Everything connected and figuring out how one graveyard was the nexus for all the individual plots was fascinating.
I also learned about the Cross Bones graveyard, a place I had never heard of and now want to learn even more about. Winchester Geese, the pauper and prostitute burial grounds. History is a fascinating subject and learning about something that feels so wrong and was somewhat swept under the carpet really built my curiosity. To the history books I go. And with the fourth book in the series already on my shelves, Tanz will be visited again soon.

Absolutely love this series! This is the 3rd book, and I read it in a day! I love Tanz and Sheila, they have fully come to grips with their powers, and Tanz gets a boost in this one, which was fun to read as she processed what was happening to her. I liked how it wasn't just a murder she was solving but a story going back generations in one family. I liked how it was all linked together, and the ending was quite sad with Nelly.

You know what, I think this was my favourite one out of the series! The pacing at the end felt rushed, but overall I LOVED the storyline. I hope there's another one!

Oh my I loved this book. So much atmosphere, emotions and laughs!
Tanz is an incredible character and her mother always steals the laughs for me.
Great continuation and i am really curious whats to come next for our sweet medium. Maybe loads more wine and rants and exy-times :).

What do we have here, then? Not usually my kind of thing, but I thought I'd give the audiobook side of NetGalley a try, so here we are. This review is based on an Advanced Listening Copy (ALC???) from Netgalley and Macmillan.
The genre is cozy crime liberally mixed with cozy hauntings. Our protagonist and narrator is Tanz, an actor who has discovered that she has Gifts and finds herself drawn into settling scores for restless ghosts and, sure, throw in a bit of sleuthing and crime solving while we're at it. This is actually the third in the series called The Accidental Medium, but I didn't think it really mattered that I hadn't read the first two. There are clearly character (and ghosts) who feature in the earlier books, but you can work out a lot as you go.
Tanz finds herself involved with the people and ghosts in and around the Cross Bones cemetery in London's Southwark. This is a real place that was used as unconsecrated ground to bury "fallen women" and later a pauper's cemetery. The place is now a remembrance garden, and it's a couple of streets away from the Globe theatre.
Tanz has to work out how the various hauntings she experiences are related while negotiating her day job and other concerns. The tone is light and amusing, and the experience of listening to this was like overhearing someone's loud pub conversation. Author Tracy Whitwell is indeed an actress with a familiar face that has popped up in all the usual places (Holby, Casualty, EastEnders, Doctors). There has also, it turns out, been a TV adaptation of The Accidental Medium. I confess that until now I was ignorant of this. Clive Mantle was in it!
Read by the author herself in a broad Geordie accent, the plot rockets along quite entertainingly—though sailing uncomfortably close at times to the wind of Sarah Millican. Like that overheard pub conversation, the voice of the book is frank and funny. The ghost story is moving rather than scary and the crime plot is perfunctory. Listen to this audiobook rather for the author's company, which is like sharing a pint with your friend from up North.

We are reunited with Tanz, actress, bon vivant and accidental medium. I started following Tanz's exploits from book 2 and initially wasn't sure what to make of this straight talking, hard drinking Geordie lass, but now I can't wait to see which way her character will grow and how her storyline progresses.
Tanz is back in London and the events in the North East have awakened her nascent abilities as a medium to a point where she not only can see ghosts and apparitions but can interact with them in their time. Frank guides Tanz to the Cross Bones graveyard in Southwark, a mass grave for the shunned, outcast and poor. There she is overwhelmed by visions and in particular for a family who fled the Irish famine only to find themselves in as dire a situation as the one they left, surrounded by disease (cholera) and slum conditions. The book circles around this family and its descendants, all of whom have connection to the graveyard and who Tanz unintentionally guides due to her strengthened spiritual gifts.
On the acting front Tanz's agent persuades her to do a small play which everyone apart from the playwright and director know is dire. On the upside she meets the wonderful Gerald (old school thespian) and two inspiring young actors Claire and Peter.
Then to love - the babyfaced policeman Neil who we first met in Gin Palace makes his play and Tanz finds he is just the tonic she needs to balance her increasingly out of control life.

My Opinion
Having previously heard Tracy Whitwell discussing this series, it is great to listen to the audiobook that she has narrated. This is a series that I would highly recommend reading in order, but the books are short and enjoyable so it won’t take you long to catch up. Tracy has written some great characters and the psychic abilities of her characters add another level of entertainment. A delightful read.

My Opinion

Tanz, the actor that accidentally found out she was a medium. Somehow she manages to shamble through life, adjusting to sounds & sight she's rather do without. When she goes to Southwark, after someone asks her to try & trace their sister she is drawn to the undead, unrest at Cross Bones cemetery. This small graveyard was originally for the 'Fallen Women' of the parish- their fall largely due to the cathedral clerics! However there is a lot more going on & Tanz has to cope with the development of her 'gift as well as how to make a living.
I started this series of books by accident (know how Tanz feels!) but it has quickly become a favourite. The style is an easy read the characters keep you engaged. Although this is a ghost story it is not a horror story- although what the undead had gone through was certainly horrific! The story tells of the history of the area & the lives of those who tried to scrape a living there. It really needs to be read as part of the series to get the full impact of the tale. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book- can't wait to see how things progress with Tanz!

The third book from Tracy Whitwell on an accidental medium. Can be read as a stand alone as there is a bit of a recap to update us on what’s happened before. Hugely entertaining!!
Tanz is living in north London and has been persuaded to take part in a play, when her psychic abilities are taking her away to Southwark and Borough market, where she begins to discover all the awful history from two hundred years ago at the Cross Bones cemetery. She is beginning to wonder about which direction to take in life, acting or being a witch!!
As always there are some great characters, lots of coffee and spooky goings on. I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of this book but found the repetition of recaps and lots of history in the first half made me feel a little stuck and that the history had overshadowed the stories of the characters. The ending was for me a little rushed with all the tidying of loose ends. Nevertheless it was huge fun.
Really enjoyed reading this despite my niggles!!

Tanz, the accidental medium. is asked to help find a missing women and is lead to Cross Bone Cemetery and yes, you guessed it. She can sense and talk to ghosts.
This cosy paranormal mystery is a hoot! I absolutely loved the humour ( some quite dark ), the Geordie accent and the fun cussing and larking about. I loved the dymantics between Tanz and her friends, how accepting and comfortable they all are with each other.
The pacing of the book is medium, just like a really fun train ride and as the book is narrated by the author, Tracy Whitwell, I just loved her voice
Im definitely going to catch up with the rest of the series

This is the third installment of Tracy Whitwell's fantastic Accidental Medium series and it just keeps getting better. If you haven't read any of the previous books, please go and read them, starting with The Accidental Medium, then The Gin Palace. You will not regret it.
The main protagonist, Tanz, Geordie witch living in London is developing her ability to communicate with the dead and in this book she is forced quickly to hone her powers even more. There are laughs a-plenty mixed with some good old spine-tingling spookiness, but also a really warm emotive heart to the book. I sobbed at the end!
Whitwell has developed an already brilliant cast of characters along with introducing us to more fabulous faces (I really want to see Gerald in future books). There's a love story, a historical mystery to solve and an awful baddie you will not see coming! This was a fascinating read and I want to know more about the Winchester Geese and will definitely be visiting Cross Bones Graveyard next time in Southwark.

An absolutely fantastic read, from start to finish. I do think this book has been the best out of the first 3 in the series, and now I cant wait to read book 4. Tanz’ adventures made me laugh - I loved the new characters she met along the way and her spooky and hilarious encounters. I absolutely love that Tracy Whitwell included Irish characters and spoke about some of the real history of what the Irish went through in the 1800s and linked it into the story. It is very important and should never be forgotten. The acknowledgments message at the end made me cry. I was hooked on this book from start to finish, with Tanz’ spooky missions at crossbones graveyard (im going to visit soon because of this book!), her funny work adventures and the people she met along the way. I’m desperate to find out whether she was able to direct Milo’s play at the theatre! I guess I need to run to my nearest bookshop and find out :)

I loved this so much (this is very paranormal heavy, so if you're not into witches, ghosts, mediumship, etc., avoid). I went back and bought the first in the series before I'd finished so that I can see where it all began. Tanz is a medium whose day job is acting, although not a lot of acting, there's not that much out there these days. Her policeman friend/romantic interest, Neil, who knows she has these gifts, asks her to help a friend of his find his sister, who disappeared five years previously. During the course of this, she discovers an old cemetery and discovers there's a lot of spirit activity in it. It doesn't appear to be connected to the missing woman, but as she digs in with the help of her friend Sheila, they uncover a sad family story that goes back generations.
The mystery is cleverly done, and there are lots of fun characters - I laughed out loud quite a few times, I like her northern humour! She's also going through a bit of a soul searching period with respect to her life, her job, her gifts, and there's a shift in the future for her.
I loved everything about this, and will be adding it to my TBR pile for the future.

However when she retraces the woman's steps she is drawn to the Cross Bones graveyard where there is significant unrest with the spirits and Tanz is drawn into the middle of it. What doesn't help is that her reluctant gift has just had a power boost, not really what Tanz wanted.
This is the third book in the series and as before I love the characters. The interplay between Tanz, her resident ghost friend and the rest of the usual surrounding characters provide sass and humour. Complete with the mystery of the graveyard and the missing girl you as the reader are kept engaged and turning the pages to see what happens next. I have loved this series from the start and continue to enjoy the pace, style and plots of these stories. Another great read.

I think that this book has to be my favorite out of this series. I love the self actualization that the characters go through and the personal growth that is happening.
There were some fantastic ghoulish / creepy moments that happens at the Cross Bones Graveyard. I am also loving all the history of London / England that we are learning in these books. There were parts that had the hairs on my arm standing up and there were parts that absolutely shattered my heart!
Tracy Whitwell has such a phenomenal way of weaving fiction with history and making you laugh at Tanz's antics. She is such an amazing character and I love how real she is. Looking forward to the next book.

Tracy Whitwell has such a phenomenal way of weaving fiction with history and making you laugh at Tanz's antics. She is such an amazing character and I love how real she is. Looking forward to the next book.

Loved this book. Really enjoyed first two in the series but felt they were building up to something bigger. This book did not disappoint. Actually went and googled information on The Winchester Geese and Cross Bones Graveyard. What a sensitive subject to bring into the books but so well handled with the respect it deserved while still playing an important part of the story line. I think I went through so many emotions while reading this and loved the way everything just joined up and connected at the end. Laughed, shed a wee tear, wanted to learn more about historical events and did not want to put this bok down till it was finished. Looking forward to book 4.

July 10, 2024We were not far in when the author/narrator makes it very clear there were previous books, and I think does a good job of bringing new readers like me up to speed.
I really liked the narration, felt like a good gossip with your friends at times.
The story had some good plot lines, and I enjoyed how everything connected.
Great setting for a lot of the story, crossbones is a piece of london history.
Good central character, with some fun sidekicks.
This book left me interested to see where we go next.

Tanz's clairvoyant abilities seem to be growing and she is asked to look into the disappearance of a man's sister 10 years before. When she goes to Borough to have a walk down the road of her last sighting, Tanz is drawn to Cross Bones Yard, the old prostitute and pauper's graveyard. There seems to be a lot of ghostly activity there all of a sudden.
She is also dealing with rehearsing for a play where the director is a knob and the writer is jealous of anyone prettier or younger than her.
On the plus side, she seems to have acquired a boyfriend.
Lively and interesting.

This is likely my favourite book yet of the series and so much more in it. I like that they’re gathering in intensity and energy powerfulness with every book. The rich little history lessons you learn from them too are brilliant and I find Tanz so normal and relatable. These books are a great little slice of escape and may, for some, be far fetched but I really enjoy the humour and love, friendship and kindness in them, as well as delving into “other worldy” stuff. What better way to escape this one?!

Book three of the Accidental Medium and this series is finally hitting it's stride -- I hope there is more to come!
Now that Tanz has been connecting more with her medium powers, her acting career and her regular routine are bringing her less joy. And she truly has learned how to master and shape her powers of communicating with the dead in whole new ways -- which brings her to meet many fascinating people (dead and alive) at the Cross Bones cemetery.
Great plot & delivery, and really connecting with our girl Tanz! A perfect mix of fun & heartwarming.

Cross Bones is the third book in the Accidental Medium series, and it managed to be even better than the first two!

As always, this book is just a cosy and funny read. Lovely characters and a mystery to solve that spans multiple generations, while also delving into local history. if that sounds interesting to you, I'd highly recommend giving this series a try.

Tanz is an actress but also an accidental medium. Searching for a missing woman she ends up at Cross Bones Graveyard where the spirits are very unhappy and they all want to talk to her.
Enjoyed this well written and well narrated novel (I listened to the audiobook). Tanz is a quirky character, complicated and funny at times. As she tries to help there will be many scary moments as she sees how hard life and death have been leading to burial in pre used graves. Lots of mystery and fun.

I really hate DNFing books I'm reviewing, but this was just not for me. I listened up until 10% but the MC was far too annoying. I also didn't realise when I requested this that it was part of a series, but I don't think I'd have liked it either way.
It's lighthearted and the beginning scene got me intrigued, but sadly not enough to continue.

There was a bit of crying…yep I did that. But I love Tanz the accidental medium but this book went into the misery of the 1800s with the extremely horrendous conditions, especially for those fleeing the the Irish famine.
It is a lot but as with the first two, this novel is worth reading. There is humour but mostly heart.
