Can the SEALS outmanoeuvre a powerful enemy …?

The Hobo Woods, Vietnam

In the deadly world of modern warfare, the art of combat has been taken to new limits.

Only one fighting unit has the skill and ruthlessness to make every corner of the globe its field of fire; using with chilling efficiency every method of deception and destruction this side of Hell.

They're Navy. And those who know about them speak in awed whispers of the men they call the SEALS.

Under a devastating attack from a vicious and seemingly countless enemy in the Vietnamese jungle, US Fire-Support Base Crockett is doomed in spite of the heroism of the GIs defending it.

Bravery is not enough. Neither is air power.

Lieutenant Mark Tynan must lead his elite squad to safety and repel the attacks by the Viet Cong.

But it will take ruthless determination and bloody warfare to get them out alive…

Helm creates an authentic picture of Viêt Nam during its war with the US. His characters are well drawn, but he focuses primarily on his lead LT Tynan. The others are present and contribute to the plot line but not in a major way. Of course there is a villain and he is drawn well enough to be a villain but not much more. Ambush is short but packed with believable action and enough weapons used expertly for the Americans to win the day if not the war. A quick read which I think a veteran will find authentic and entertaining.

A squad of Navy Seals finds itself within the ranks of VC and NVA soldiers as the human waves attack Firebase Crockett with the intent of overrunning it. They must use their wits and training to escape while causing as much damage as possible to the attacking enemy. Will they survive?

The story flowed well and kept my interest from beginning to end. I have also enjoyed many of the author's other works. Highly recommended.

Good book

First book I've read by this author, it was enjoyable. It was barebones, just enough details to keep you interested but didn't have too much facts that would bore you! Personally I would have liked for the author to have described the characters a bit more but overall it was a good book and I will read more of his books!!

Good start to this series!

This was a decent read. Good action and good characters. I'm going to read book #2 in the series and decide if I want to continue reading.

Fast paced

Accurate and unpretentious narration of the experience of combat in the boonies of Việt Nam. I will continue reading the series.

Interesting

It how ever was easy reading and and not very intriguing, but fast reading. There was little actual Korean war action.

This wasn't my kind of book. I wished there had been more character development. I wish there had been more of a plot.
