Threatening Skye

Rate this book
When Skye left 1927 to go back to the year 1907, she discovered she was not as happy to be home as she had first thought she would be, because leaving the future meant she had to leave behind a handsome stranger named Remington Hart. She felt his presence and saw him in her dreams every night, but knowing he was unattainable because he was from another decade, she forced herself to go on with her life. Chastising herself for always longing for adventure, she convinced herself to be satisfied with where she was at the moment and enjoy the life she had. To ease her brother's worries for her safety, she promised to put the thrill of time traveling out of her mind.
As she began dating the charismatic Irishman, MacDonald O'Hara, she found she was often comparing him to the man of her dreams. Even when it became apparent there was no spark between them, she continued to see Mac, while always longing for Rem. Little did she know, Rem was a time traveler, too, and he had been sent to 1927 to find her and take her back to 2051, which according to the government, was her proper time and place. Rem was working for the State in The Red Guard, and it was his sworn duty to fulfill his assignment and find all absconders. He had no choice; he was obligated to bring her and her entire family back.
Completely unaware of the threat that is about to descend upon her, her brother, and their parents, Skye Kent Kestler goes about her daily routine as she continues the search for the ancestors on her family tree. Longing to know about her past, she continues to dig into the mystery of Lilian DeLuca, her three times great-grandmother, a flapper from the nineteen twenties. Will Skye be able to follow the trail that leads to unanswered questions about her family, or will she be captured before she has a chance? What other threats lie around the corner for the unaware time-traveler? Is there something to fear from MacDonald O’Hara, also?
Book Two, Threatening Skye, in the series Branches of Time, is a spin-off of the loved, Amazon bestselling series, A Slip in Time. Follow along as a new branch of the family emerges, bringing with it new trials and tribulations.

Jane O'Brien discovered her love of writing at the age of ten when she wrote her first ten-chapter book in pencil on notebook paper. She passed it around to all of her friends at school and told them she wanted to be an author. And that planted the seed.
O'Brien's career life has been varied. She was a piano teacher for over 50 years, a librarian, and a professional proofreader. She is also interested in genealogy, having worked on her own family tree, as well as her husband's, for over 40 years, which helps to color most of her novels.
Today, as a grandmother, Jane is finally fulfilling her lifelong dream, after successfully having her thirty-fifth book published, which includes two trilogies, one six-book series, three Christmas novellas, and two Amazon best-selling time slip series. She lives in West Michigan and writes romance with a little history, mystery, and family entanglements, all set in her part of the state.
The stories she weaves are about family and the intricate connections of relatives, past and present.

Lives worth living in someone else's life

What an exciting read! This is a well crafted utopian novel, which shows how horribly wrong such things can be. While giving us a unique opportunity to see what life could be like if we jumped into the existence of our ancestors. Walking in the lives of her great grandmother's lives in different times, places, and cultures allows the reader to feel the emotions Skye herself is struggling with. Start with book 1 and keep going!

confusing

Even though I love all of this authors’ books, I’m finding that with all these characters that are being introduced I’m having a hard time following with the exception of the main ones. I feel that by the time a new book comes out I just have a hard time trying to follow the storyline and trying to figure out who’s who. I have to tell you though this author sure is a heck of a story teller.

Interesting time travel and historical novel

The continued adventures of Skye and Rem is an exciting journey where you learn history and fashion of each time period.
I can't help visually compare 2051 to what is happening in our own country. Maybe there is a warning here from our author.
The fashion history at the end of each book is quite interesting. The list of characters and the genealogy is helpful.

Bestselling Author Jane O’Brien is best known for her incredible “A Slip in Time series”. In twelve books, we followed the story of two sisters of the 21st century who slipped back into the 1800’s, fell in love, and built new lives in the mists of the past. As we eagerly read all 12 books, we met many interesting and colorful characters. One of these characters is now the star of the “Slip in Time” spin-off series- Skye!

Skye is no longer a little girl, as she showed us in Book 1 of this new series. In the first book, Skye moves out of her parents’ home to start her own life. But besides getting a job, and becoming more independent, Skye has something more special to pursue- she wants to time travel. In the current book, “Threatening Skye”, Skye has mastered the ability to go back and forth from early 20th century Michigan to the 1920’s.

One of the “threats” in this book is Remington “Rem” Hart, the Agent from the year 2051. By this time in America, the country is run by a controlling, totalitarian government. One of Rem’s jobs is to round up “Absconders”, people like Skye and her family who have escape from this dark regime. Rem thinks he has found a way to track and find Skye. Will he find her and what will happen?

In addition to the intrigue, you know Author O’Brien will give us plenty of romance and passion. (Even though Skye can do without the passion of at least one young man.) One aspect of this book that I really enjoyed was the contrast between the times- the early 20th Century with its freedom, patriotism and hard-working people, versus the rigidity and control of the 21st century.

“Threatening Skye” will intrigue and fascinate you and raise your pulse dramatically. Jane O’Brien has a gift for creating characters that seem so real. She also knows how to craft a story. Love, adventure, romance, science fiction, history- Author O’Brien wonderfully blends it all. Skye is a heroine you will never forget. Ready to time travel?

Highly recommend. Thanks to the author for an advance digital review copy. This is my honest review.

Wow!! Skye can get herself in a lot of trouble.
I'm glad Remington was there to save her from Mac, but now I wish it was 2024 for the next book to find out what happened to Skye and the rest of her saga.
Great writing as always Jane. You are an awesome, amazing author who keeps us on the edge of our seats.
Need to write faster (but that is what I tell the other authors I follow).

I have read every one of Jane O’Brien’s books. I like that they have clean romance in them and are very entertaining. I am anxiously awaiting book 3 of the series. I hope it I can pre-order it.
