Enjoying his time in the evil Order of the Malefic Viper, Jake finds himself unprepared as Earth calls…

Out of nowhere, Jake gets his alchemy training interrupted as he is forced back to the first universe to deal with a sudden emergency. Earth has been invaded by another Chosen with plans that do not include a fair fight, assisted by natives unsatisfied with the status quo.

The feeble political balance on Earth is shattered as factions take advantage of the sudden turmoil to exercise the wills of their gods. War breaks out, and every force finds themselves implicated one way or another.

On his way to face the enemy Chosen, Jake explores parts of Earth he has never seen before, makes new allies, gets to know more of the Malefic Viper’s most treasured secrets through incredibly invasive visions of the past, improves his abilities, and gets plenty of those sweet, sweet levels.

But before all that… it’s time to dispense justice upon the most evil beings in all of existence: Mushroom Men.

These books that are converted from Royal road stories pick the weirdest places to end. I feel like they just pick a word count and decide to stop wherever arbitrarily. The book was fun to read but no normal book would choose to end on such a meh note.

always making friends

Jake is a people person. Clearly.

Lots of skill upgrading, some cool new friends, the return of an old ‘enemy’, and the reappearance of the competition.

He also named a giant sandworm ‘Sandy’. Some things never change.

This doesn't need a review.

It is a continuation of a very good story. It loses nothing with time, and still had excellent pacing and character development.

Worst novel by far. Every single person in Jake's life genuinely does not care for him. The author manipulates this by having some BS profound wisdom of "if Jake is upset you did not help him, he is petty and not worth friendship". Well as said in John wick "you can only be someones friend when its hard".

In this novel Jake is faced against a attack on earth and himself. And everyone from Caleb to Carmen refused to help. Carmen ended up being brow beat by her god into allowing Jake to face death alone meanwhile Caleb was paid to work against him. The author tries to shield the harsh reality of the fact Jake has no loved ones or companions with flowery language but it falls flat. At the end of the day this series is just about Jake and everyone else is merely a decoration to make him seem less like he is stuck on a island and they are his Wilson.

The antagonist of the book both minor and Major come rather out of no where and are able to bring entire pantheon's worlds and primordials to heel and beck and call. Even relegating Valhal to a "don't go to war, sit and watch who will win" When it was just mentioned how pro war they were in the previous book, and now they are terrified of yip of yore.

Honestly book series tend to end early and leave you wanting more and go too long and fall to pieces, and this one will definitely be the latter. Jake is flung across the world within seconds and spends months coming back, war rages, bad guys planning allows them to hold all the cards but much like John Wick everyone believes in Jake. And for that reason no friend or family will lift a finger to help unless it is convenient. Honestly this might be one of the saddest MC's because he does not even understand how alone he is. Only Villy seems to care and he is bound by whatever rules the author decides at the moment, meanwhile the major antogonist can do as he pleases because he is "only" a god.

Worst book by far and leaves me feeling bleak hope for any future entries. I have no doubt some horrible training arc is coming and the chosen of yip is going to end up some massive reoccuring villain like the silver light guy from dragon marked war go. A solid thousand chapters of banter and minor defeats.

I first started this series in summer last year and I was addicted. I had to wait a good few months for this book and it definitely scratched the itch to be back in this world. I love the characters a lot, and that’s what makes this book great. I love that I get to follow along their adventures. Is this an amazing book though? No. Since reading other fantasy books, I’ve come to learn that this series or in particular this book isn’t like amazingly written. There’s not emotions involved, it’s just a really cool read and a really cool world.

It was better than the last book but wastes the antagonist. Not only was the fight with the other Chosen short and inconclusive, but failing to kill him had no cost. I thought an enemy that could retreat from any attack and who had the backing of a god, a planet of allies (Valhalla), local traitors, and a top tear beast, might have engendered more fear and destruction.

It's fine. I simply want more.

The main thing I enjoy about this series is the humor. Everything else is okay, but I wish there was less world building and more plot. There seems to be an over-explaining of everything, which is fine to help us as readers understand the power system, but it has become over-kill at this point. Am i still going to read the 9th book when it comes out? Of course I am.

My favorite cultivation/wuxia story right now. Zogarth does a good job of leveraging the tropes of the genre to keep both the story and the timeline flowing, while maintaining the entertainment value and not getting bogged down in the minutia that is so present in this style of story.

Primal Hunter 8 is the latest installment in the popular LitRPG series by Zogarth. The book follows Jake, a Chosen who travels between different universes and hunts down powerful enemies. In this book, Jake returns to Earth to face a new threat: another Chosen who has invaded the planet with the help of some disgruntled natives. Jake must use his skills, abilities, and alchemy to stop the invasion and protect his home.

The book is a fast-paced and action-packed adventure that keeps the reader hooked from start to finish. The author does a great job of balancing the different aspects of the story, such as the combat, the character development, the world-building, and the humor. The book also explores some interesting themes, such as the nature of evil, the role of gods, and the consequences of choices.

One of the highlights of the book is the influence of The Dune and RPG elements on the story. The author clearly draws inspiration from the classic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, as well as from various role-playing games. The book features a desert planet, giant sandworms, and a powerful order of assassins. The book also incorporates the typical LitRPG features, such as levels, classes, professions, skills, dungeons, loot, and stats. The author skillfully blends these elements into the story, creating a unique and immersive experience for the reader.

The book is not without its flaws, however. Some of the scenes feel rushed or underdeveloped, and some of the characters lack depth or motivation. The book also suffers from some editing errors, such as typos, grammar mistakes, and inconsistencies. These issues do not ruin the overall enjoyment of the book, but they do detract from its quality.

Overall, Primal Hunter 8 is a thrilling and entertaining read that will satisfy fans of the series and genre. The book delivers on its promise of an epic and exciting adventure, with plenty of twists and surprises along the way. The book also sets up the stage for the next book, which promises to be even more epic and exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys LitRPG, sci-fi, fantasy, or action. I give this book four out of five stars.

Primal Hunter Book 8 kicks off with Jake still honing his alchemical skills under the tutelage of the Order of the Malefic Viper, but that peaceful progress is shattered when Earth is pulled back into the spotlight. Another Chosen has arrived, threatening the fragile balance of power on Earth, and Jake is summoned back to deal with the crisis. The invasion forces are no joke—hostile natives, meddling gods, and a manipulative Chosen stir the pot, dragging Earth into a high-stakes conflict. Meanwhile, Jake’s connection to the Malefic Viper deepens, offering haunting visions of the Viper’s past and pushing Jake closer to understanding his own path—one that increasingly blurs the lines between man, myth, and monster.

Before confronting the central threat, Jake is momentarily sidetracked by one of the series’ most hilariously bizarre detours: the Mushroom Men. It’s a brief but memorable arc that balances the book’s darker tones with humor and creativity, a reminder that Primal Hunter thrives on variety. The final confrontation with the enemy Chosen, while intense and visually epic, does feel a bit rushed for some readers. However, it’s what the battle reveals—about Jake, the system, and the future stakes—that keeps the momentum rolling. New alliances are formed, new threats teased, and Jake continues leveling with relentless ambition, always pushing for the next limit.

If you haven’t picked up The Primal Hunter series yet, you’re seriously missing out on one of the most original and addictively entertaining LitRPG power-fantasy series out there. It’s more than just numbers and stats—this is a world that evolves with terrifying logic, driven by a protagonist who never stops growing in strength or complexity. The series blends grind-heavy progression, intense battles, cosmic horror, and surprisingly deep world-building in a way few other books manage. Book 8 is yet another reminder that the Primal Hunter universe doesn’t just raise the bar—it shatters it.

Mixed feelings about this one. The first part was boring, and I even skipped a few pages. It started to get interesting in the second part of the book with the political conflict and the introduction of funny new characters like Sandy.

This is my first time reading LitRPG, so my rating was mostly based on the entertainment value of the RGP side. On the literary aspects, the story isn't that good, full of secondary, one-dimensional characters and a primary egotistical jerk. I rescue a bit of the world-building aspect, although the writer offers only small glimpses of that; for example, already in book 8, Jake barely knows his city and citizens. The author forces the main character into positions of leadership for which the character has shown zero qualities, and even after acquiring skills as a teacher, has shown zero interest in teaching others around him. Even other characters like the Sword Saint sound more likable than Jake. I rescue Jake's relationships with Silphie, Scarlett, and Sandy, and with some powerful characters like Carmen and the Sword Saint, but in general there's very little to admire from the main character. Well, perhaps his unsurrendering attitude is worth some admiration, but curiously, as a human, not the best example of one.

I think the entire entertainment value of the story derives from the skill progress, the battles, and the interaction with a few secondary characters that, sadly, are kept as one-dimensional secondaries, and the often funny interactions with the Malefic Viper. Even with all the bad, the story is interesting enough to keep me going so far.

I have been enjoying a number of LitRPG series lately, mostly because I enjoy stories where the characters must actively grow and develop, figuring out who they wish to become. Since the genre originated from video games and earlier role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, characters strive to gain levels, skills, spells, blessings (yes, some have divine elements), evolutions, and much more, depending on the universe and system created. Also, since many of the stories began life serialized on sites such as royalroad.com, they just keep going. A common problem is that the skills and stats can get so complicated that they replace plot as what we read about most (DEFIANCE OF THE FALL is a prime example), which is not very exciting. All that to say that somehow Zogarth (bizarre pseudonyms is also common in the genre) manages to keep things interesting after eight volumes, which is quite an accomplishment. It helps that the main character, Jake, has mostly left Earth and enrolled at the main university of his god's faction, which allows for new characters and a new set of problems to solve. The series is still not great (HE WHO FIGHTS WITH MONSTERS and CRADLE are my favorites) but still entertaining.

Nah Jake getting rage baited by Sandy is so funny I was lmao.

A few moments passed. Sandy always made the walls transparent and allowed Jake to look outside, and he saw the Sky Whale, now far up in the air, react as Sandy spoke to it. A few more seconds passed.

“The whale talked about you truly being a monster or something like that, which makes no sense as you said you are a human, right? Humans aren’t monsters,” Sandy relayed to him.

Jake just shook his head. “Who knows? Maybe I am also a giant whale in disguise.”

“Doubtful, considering whales aren’t scared of water,” Sandy scoffed.

“I am not afraid of water,” Jake argued. “I just recognize I am not adept in fighting in it.”

“Sounds like something someone who is scared of water would say.”

“It is not about fear, but-“

“Maybe you are… what was it… a chicken? Yeah, maybe you are a chicken in disguise? Because you sound like a chicken right now,” Sandy cut him off.

“No, it is not that, I-“

“Chickens also don’t like water, right? What a coincidence…”

Their “argument” continued… Jake not realizing he had fallen into a trap – or being too stubborn and prideful to back down - until it was too late. - Chapter 539

Approaching C grade Jake has some last steps ahead of him

Oh and another planetary voice for World Leader is coming up. An enemy god’s Chosen comes to Earth to make a play and mess with Jake as the opening salvo to their Patrons battling through proxy. Jake is the Viper’s proxy while Ell Hakaan is Yip of Yore’s proxy. However, gods battle differently as Jake will soon learn they aren’t one for direct conflict unless they are assured a win.
The first battle goes to Ell Hakaan as he forcibly portals Jake across the planet rather than battle him. Then he uses slimy public relations concepts to try and sway the public opinion. Sadly, Jake could care less about opinions unless they come from somewhere be strong enough to challenge him.
But Jake has a few months to get back to Haven before the vote and the United Cities Alliance takes the opportunity to ally with the enemy Chosen in an attempt to get rid of the Viper’s Chosen, whom he is convinced will sacrifice Earth to the Order for power. Read on to find out how this mess works out and for the return of our favorite green feather ball!

Easy to recommend

It's a good book and I'm pleased that the audio drops the same time as the ebook. I tend to pick up both and then switch between them. The narrator has never delivered less than a fantastic performance. The writing is quality though if I had to pick a couple things to be critical about it is the story occasionally drags here and there and in pass entries each book feels like the ending of one Arc and the beginning of the other without getting a conclusion until the next book drops. This entry into the series wasn't too bad in that regard and the issue really only affects a reader on the first time through the series. If you love The Story well enough to go back and revisit it in the future especially once the series has concluded it won't even be an issue which is why I would put it into the category of being nitpicky while still being worth mentioning. With that I'll simply say Well done to everybody who had a hand and bringing this story to us, the Amazon readers.

Jake is a chosen who really needs to learn that he is a chosen. His status and his lack of understanding of it is crazy to me. We see yet another instance of him trying to be cool about it, but it's honestly not like he's dumb, he should be piecing it together by now!

Anyways, do you every have moments where you are relaxing and enjoying your favorite hobby (probably reading)? Well how about moments when you're doing this and then the feeling creeps up that something isn't right? I have and usually it means I forgot to send an email at work. For Jake, however, this situation pulls him directly from The Order back to Earth! In a wild turn of events, a new challenge presents itself to Jake and his planent. In the process, Jake ends up having to explore the planet, which allows him to meet yet another cool companion.

All I have to say is that I am loving how the book is laying out yet another crazy plot line. I love these books, even when Jake is dumb.

Zogarth is great at putting you back into the scene right where the last book left off. And I love that. So Jake and his party of adventurers find the themselves right at the entrance of a mushroom dungeon, and you know how much Jake hates mushrooms 😆.
I love how fluid Zogarth's writing is, they follow so many side characters with aplomb and it ties into Jake's storyline so well that it's seamless. And this novel is no different! It's just so much fun, I swear! So don't miss out on book 8 or you'll be sorry. And if you haven't started the series yet, I have a question for you, why not? The books are chuck-a-block full of everything from Gods, Companion Beast's, Beast Friends, and even a Murder Hobo with plenty of action to that it satisfies even my appetite. And Travis Baldree is the perfect narrator to tell it all.
Now my only question is when does book 9 come out?

I love this series without reservation. I don't want to spoil it by reading ahead on Patreon, but it's getting so hard not to. The entire inside joke of Jake naming things is just so good. I should have seen the setup, but I didn't until the sentence before the reveal, and it was brilliant.

Other than that, another fun outing. Civil War comes to Earth with a helping of rival Chosen and I liked how unexpectedly the conflict was resolved; it wasn't the expected final boss battle. Lots of fun progression, we learn more interesting things from Villy's past and Jake and sim-Jake have a grand plan. Cannot wait for the next one.
