For the past 70,000 years, Earth has been used as a prison for the Human species. In that time atmospheric conditions and life sustaining resources on the planet have been depleted at an astonishing pace. Marooned and stripped of their memory, the vast majority of Humanity has been left to die on a suffocating world. Blocked from accessing the Source by a device built on their planet's single orbiting moon, the people on Earth have forgotten their way. The Greys closely monitor their every action. Every facet of society is controlled, warped. And all the while Greys throughout the galaxy are tuned in – watching on entertainment streams, their favorite reality TV.
Anderson creates a riveting story and universe that seems not so distant from our own. The connections the reader can build with the characters helps understand the struggles each faces. The author has a powerful ability to bring to life the various aspects of universe through the perspective of a few different character and their struggles with understanding themselves and the world around them. Finding yourself rooting for characters triumph and demise makes this a read you won’t want to put down. Overall epic story and can’t wait for more!
I just can't. 10% through and I'm giving up. I'm not sure why it didn't grab my attention but I think it is because there is a lot of talk but no action. Maybe it picks up later but I'm putting it aside for now.
The book started a little slow for me but then I got caught up in the stories of the three main characters. I wanted to know more about the universe, the plight and their powers. At first I struggled with the timeline between the three characters, but it became clear that this was an intentional choice. I enjoyed the light science aspects that invited me to think deeply about how long distance space travel would work with time. The book left me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next novel.
This book kind of snuck up on me. I thought that it would be your typical Sci-Fi and I'd halfway pay attention. But it pulled me in and I found myself looking forward to listening to more of it and thinking about it when I wasn't listening to it. I enjoyed the story and the characters. The timeline was a little hard to keep track of and then I realized that was intentional. I also enjoyed the alien aspect of the sci-fi versus the all-too-often AI versus human sci fi I've been reading of late.
Andersons book is a feat of word-building. As someone who rarely reads in the fantasy or sci-fi genre, I appreciated the social commentary embedded in this book. The characters felt real, and Anderson writes his prose in a clear and straightforward way that helps the reader along in an unfamiliar world.
To be honest, I didn’t expect Genesis Echo to be so good, but it completely surprised me. This book became one of my favorite reads of the year so far. Can't wait for book 2. 🤌🏽
The first novel in an up-and-coming series, Genesis Echo is a contemporary mash-up of SF classics: Star Wars...and Avatar: the Last Airbender.
Cannot wait for Book 2...creative world-building, intense character development, and a fascinating & unique take on the classic hero vs alien storyline.
I would recommend for any fan of the fantasy genre or anyone who loves an adventure.
The book emphasizes themes of connection and unification, especially between different cultures, peoples, and the environment. It is a whimsical, fantastical book of its time and reiterates basic messages of respect and harmony - it is pro-environment and pro-love (unification between peoples) in a way that is both natural and refreshing.
