Tempting the Maiden: a sizzling, suspenseful shapeshifter/fated mates paranormal romance

Rate this book
He was born to be a knight. I’m a noble lady. We’re a perfect match — but destiny has other ideas…

MARIAN
Fairest maiden in the land? I’d rather be known as the best swordswoman or the best rider. On the other hand, there are advantages to keeping my skills secret — along with my rare shifter heritage. Like now, when I must outwit the cruelest, most ruthless man alive. To do so, I head to the most lawless corner of the country, hoping to find Robin Hood. But when the safe haven I was counting on turns out to be a double cross, I find an unlikely ally in the hottest priest in the land…

TUCK
As the third son of a country lord, I had no choice but to join a monastery. Eat, pray, repeat was my future, and damn, was that future bleak. In a few short days, I’ll have to take my vows and make it official. Me, a lion shifter, living a life of poverty, obedience, chastity?

Life gets a little more interesting when I start helping Robynne Hood… and a LOT more interesting when a mysterious woman seeks refuge in the monastery. I’m her only hope, but it would take a miracle to earn a happily-ever-after. I’ll have to settle for saving her from greedy, ruthless shifters plotting to overthrow King Richard — if she’ll even let me. Still, I’ve always been a dreamer, and I’m not ready to give up hope, love, or the chance to fulfill my true destiny.

USA Today and Amazon best-selling author Anna Lowe loves putting the "hero" back into heroine and letting location ignite a passionate romance. She likes a heroine who is independent, intelligent, and imperfect — a woman who's doing just fine on her own. But give the heroine a good man (not to mention a chance to overcome her own inhibitions) and she'll never turn down the chance for adventure, nor shy away from danger.

On any given weekend, you might find her hiking in the mountains or hunched over her laptop, working on her latest story. Either way, the day will end with a chunk of dark chocolate and a good read.

Series: Sherwood Forest Shifters #3
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

This is the third and final book of the Sherwood Forest Shifters and I have been eager to see how Robynne and the gang stop Prince John and protect themselves and the town. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down because Marian and Tuck’s story sucked me in and the suspense of stopping Prince John kept me on the edge.

Marian has been hinted at throughout this series. She is the most beautiful maiden in the land but we learn in the previous book that she is also a staunch supporter of King Richard and a warrior. Marian was a wonderful heroine. She was smart, resourceful, and determined to stop Prince John from going through with his plan to marry her. I loved her determination and her strength. She never backed down and never gave up fighting even when things seemed pointless. I really loved her.

Tuck is a sweet and restless man who doesn’t belong in a monastery. He finds happiness in helping others but doesn’t enjoy anything else about the church. I really liked getting to know him and seeing him figure out what he actually wants and fight for it, even if he knows he might not be able to keep it or survive.

Tuck and Marian were fated mates who’s relationship was filled with a lot of tension and emotion. They were dealing with Prince John’s betrayal, Marian’s upcoming forced marriage, their class differences, and the fact that Tuck is supposed to be taking his vows to the church. It was a very emotional relationship that kept me hooked on top of all the action.

Like I said, this is the last book of this series. We finally see Prince John’s evil be stopped and the return of King Richard. The final battle was very action packed and intense. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next because it was all very surprising and unexpected. Lowe did a wonderful job at creating a fantastic action packed ending for this series. I highly recommend this series if you like retellings or shifter fated mate romances.

My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this book

Tempting the Maiden is the third book in the Sherwood Forest Shifters Trilogy and whilst the main story revolves around Maid Marian and Friar Tuck it isn't only their story, because this book ties up all the loose ends we were left with in the two earlier books and completes Willa and John's story and we find out how Robyn and Daniel can finally be together and there's even a happy ever after for Robyn's brother Robert!

Marian's a shifter, but you'll be surprised by what type, she's been called the fairest maiden in the land but she's far more than her looks, she's loyal, clever, strong-willed, smart, brave, stubborn and can wield a sword and dagger as well as, if not better than, most men. Friar Tuck is as we know not suited to life in the monastery but as the third son of his noble family, it's expected that he takes his vows. Something he's dreading but something he can see no honourable way of avoiding. On the upside, his position within the clergy has allowed him to help Robyn in the past and being a good man with a caring and thoughtful personality the help he gives to the poor of the parish is sorely needed, but he yearns to be a knight......

Marion and Tuck met in February 1194 when Marian took refuge in the library of Tuck's monastery to hide from and avoid being forced to marry Prince John. Tuck discovered her hiding place when he went to retrieve something from the library one night and he found himself on the wrong end of her dagger. The connection made that night was one Tuck felt could go nowhere, she was of noble birth and the God-Daughter of King Richard whilst he was a penniless third son. But you can't fight destiny and they continued to meet in secret. But then a traitorous monk makes it necessary for her to change her plans. Marion along with Tuck sneak out of the monastery under cover of darkness and set off to rally the noblemen still loyal to King Richard.

They travel to the Manor of Lord and Lady Winthrope where they all make a plan to finally stop Prince John. But.........

This trilogy is a phenomenally entertaining retelling of the tale of Robin Hood. The author's imaginative writing style, vivid scene descriptions and character-building are engaging and as always she's included many surprising twists and turns which will keep you on the edge of your seat. That coupled with the wonderful narration performed by Kelsey Osborne, who has narrated all of the books I have listened to by Anna Lowe and Chris Merlin really added to my enjoyment of this exciting and enthralling conclusion. Kelsey and Chris make a beautiful partnership and I look forward to hearing more of Anna's books done in this way.

As Beyonce says, "Who runs the world?, WOMEN." This can not stress enough when you get a trio of woman together and plan to take over or should I say take back Nottingham in thy name of that king. He happens to just walk into the library on his mate, and he literally walks on his mate. The most beautiful woman in the world. Since he can't have her, he decides he would be noble and honorable like a true knight and protect her, not that she really needs it. They partake on a whirlwind adventure, and things happen
dto make them who they became. This is last installment you have Shively snakes in the grass, a dragon by any other name, a conniving fox(with brains i might Outlaws who steal from the rich and give to the poor and keep some to save for the ransom to rescue their dear King Richard.ypu also have two best friends, one lady in waiting and Fair Maiden who both are deadly with a sword right along with Roybnne Hood. HAPPY ENDINGS-SUSPENSE-ACTION -SIZZLING ROMANCE

Tempting the Maiden is the finale of the retold tale of Robin Hood. You meet Marian fairest maiden in the land. She’s not a pushover and can wield a sword and dagger against any man. Friar Tuck, lion shifter third son rules of the land, has him living in the monastery waiting to take his vows. He’s a good man with a charming personality, helps the poor but yearns to be a knight. A fast-paced read with bone-chilling suspense, action, life-threating issues, witty banter and sizzling romance.

It’s February 1194 in Nottingham, England. Marian takes refuge in the monastery to hide from Prince John; a traitor has her changing plans. Friar Tuck’s mission is protecting his fair lady. Tuck discovers shocking details about the wartime activities of knights from Daniel, dragon shifter Acting Sheriff of Nottingham. Marian and Tuck face many obstacles before reaching their happy forever.

Phenomenal, entertaining finale to this retold folklore tale of Robin Hood. Character interaction is engaging, vivid scene descriptions had my heart pounding. Marian’s shifter side is quite a surprise. Tuck and Marian's love is genuine. No more sneaking around for Daniel and Robynne, who get their happy forever and more. Loved this storyline with alpha females. Reviewed a pre-released copy.

This is the last book in the Sherwood Forest Shifters series and it was a fun listen. All of the books in the series were fun and enjoyable. This book had plenty of action and suspense as well as romance and humor. Friar Tuck was meant to be a knight (in his heart) but instead, third born Tuck was to be a priest (he has an out should he choose to use it). Maid Marian is a Noble lady. Although they are a perfect match, destiny had other ideas. Marian sought refuge in a library in the monastery and was found by Tuck. She was determined not to marry the horrible Prince John who is so evil that you are cheering for her to outsmart him. Prince John is something else and I wanted to b!tch slap him for his terrible plans to steal the throne. Luckily, Marian is a very strong woman, which I love. It was so funny all of the booby traps that Marian set in case anyone tried to enter the room she occupied in the monastery. Marian and Tuck are attracted to each other and Tuck will do whatever he can to keep her safe. This series is a great take on Robin/Robynne Hood and her merrymen as well as three very strong women - Robynne, Willa and Marian. A lot happens in this book so check it out - you will not be disappointed. Ms. Lowe did a great job in tying up everything nicely for the couples, including Robert Hood. I highly recommend the entire series.

This story was great! It kept me glued to the e-reader the entire time with the intriguing plot. I was eager to know Lady Marian's secret, how the author would deal with Robynne's and the 'acting sheriff' situation and how Friar Tuck was going to survive his dilemma, which was not of the spiritual kind at all. I laughed a lot at the way he was admonishing himself. An unlucky thing to be the third son. Good thing the 'acting sheriff' offered him a different view of things. The women always stayed one step ahead with ingenuity, planning and availability to save the situation. I had to keep an eye on the lots of adventure and action that surrounded the characters. Even the one who wasn't the sharpest tool in the toolbox did his stunt. And not to mention the villains who were evil incarnate. There were fun moments and other very emotional ones where my eyes watered and I even caught myself cheering at the conclusion of the drama. Action, adventure, suspense, intrigue, fun situations, strong emotions, violence, surprises, romance, and passion. Enjoyed it a lot. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received from BookFunnel.

Tempting the Maiden is the final book of the series and is really good. Marian is the goddaughter of King Richard and is a shifter. No one can know she is a shifter. No one can know she is a shifter and especially what animal. She is a Nobel Maidian but she would rather be known as a swordswoman or the best rider. She is to wed Prince John, the king’s brother. He is only forcing her to marry him so he can be come king. So Marian goes into hiding at the Abby where she meets Friar Tuck. Friar Tuck is a lion shifter who is to take his final vows to be a prist soon. Tuck would rather be a knight. Tuck meets when he sneaks into the library for Friar Cyril to retrieve ‘some drawlings’ he left there. They both realize they are fated mates, but they can’t be together because she isa Nobel and he is going to be a prist in a few days. The adventures and romance begin when Prince John shows up and moves the wedding up. Tuck must find a way to protect Marian even if he dies. You must get this book to find out what happens.

A wonderful read that I guarantee you’ll thoroughly enjoy, you will be riveted

This was a simply wonderful third book in series and I guarantee that you will love it as much as the previous two books that were absolutely riveting reading.

This book continues with the vein of Robin and Marian as his noble lady with all sorts of shifter forms and I guarantee that you will love as the third son of the noble family and that is non other than Tuck. He is supposed to be going into the priesthood, as a lion shifter this made things slightly more difficult.

His life is that of poverty, chastity, and obedience and this does not in any shape or way appeal to him an so he takes matters into his own hands and joins with the Sherwood Forest Shifters and finds a love of his own.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Wow! If you’re looking for a bit of excitement in your life, you’ll need to read this episode of Anna Lowe’s new series, Sherwood Forest Shifters! As usual, it’s best to read in sequence, but definitely not a necessity.
In this book, be prepared to meet with some pretty fierce women who know how to take charge, along with their men who know how to take orders… well, kinda! When the going gets tough, this crew get tougher!
In typical Anna Lowe fashion, this well written tale will have you on the edge of your seat with anticipation as our heroes prepare for the fight of their lives, and all in the name of their beloved King and his people. Be prepared to be swept away, as you won’t want to put it down!
I was gifted a copy of this book and am giving my honest opinion.

This fascinating re-imagining of the Robin Hood legend as a book trilogy about Robynne Hood and her friends now comes to a close in book 3, which brings together all the threads from the first two books and ties them up neatly, giving one of the most satisfying HEA endings I've read for a while.

The main story of this book is the relationship between Marian, a noble lady with one of the rarest of shifter forms and Tuck who, as a third son of a noble family, is destined for the priesthood However, he is a lion shifter with a taste for adventure - and a life of poverty, chastity and obedience just does not appeal! As they fight for their lives and their love, larger wheels start to turn in the world around them ...

Occasionally the use of modern phrases pulled me out of the story, but overall an exciting ending to this historical adventure series. It was fun spending more time with this group of characters, and I especially liked the strong friendship bond and support building between the female characters. Tuck get his wish to have a more adventurous life and Marian fulfulls her destiny that was hinted at in earlier books. Loved how the author turned the Robin/Robynne Hood myth on its ear to have the Heroines take the major role in these well known stories. Also very interesting adding the Shifter gifts as a twist – readers will be delighted to discover what Marian’s hidden Shifter side is. Very happy endings all round.

4,5 stars for Tuck and Marianne

Wow, not only became Tuck a good way out of the monastery but he also got the girl. It was a very interesting insight in the medieval workings where a woman had to fight or decline on a much more subtle level. To endure and act patient.
I also love that the third couple in the book is still very unique even if, with the whole story coming together now, there way to become mates is not as prominent in my opinion.

It felt so real and now it is over. 😭 I just felt like this was the true story behind the Robin Hood legend before it twisted in time and telltale. I loved the story flow and the characters and beasts. I only wish there were more. Another one. Just more.

Evil Foes & Powerful Friends

Tempting the Maiden turns darker than the previous volumes. Friar Tuck is facing taking his final vows for a lifetime of prayers and chastity. And Maid Marian has fled to the abbey for sanctuary to avoid an unwanted marriage. Tuck and Marian are attracted to each other, but the circumstances seem grim and hopeless.

But it’s always darkest before the dawn. Don’t miss the extraordinary events that bring a Happy Ever After for not just Tuck and Marian, but also for Daniel and Robynne, John and Willa, and a new surprise couple! I just love a happy ending!

I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Entertaining Conclusion!!

Friar Tuck is a few days away from taking his vows. Living a life of poverty, obedience and chastity is not really something he and his lion are looking forward to. Marian is acting the lady with needlepoint close at hand, but her forte lies elsewhere. She is avoiding Prince John who is determined to marry her. Marian is also a shifter, but Tuck cannot detect which kind.

Events escalate, and with Robynne in the crosshairs, all factions must work together to prevent further tragedy. Delightful take on the Robin Hood tale.

This third and final in series combines nonstop action with what seems to be an impossible romance. The dashing Friar Tuck, well he’s almost a monk, finds his mate in the highborn and ravishing Maid Marian. Prince John is ramping up his take over of the kingdom and seems determined to take Marian for a wife one way or another. Marian’s shifter side is a cool surprise and she and Tuck have some smoking sexy times. Needless to say the story comes to a suspenseful crux before the much awaited HEA. And don’t miss the extra special bonus scenes.

What a great ending to this series! The author did a great retelling of the story of Robin Hood and all the different characters. We had hints that Maid Marian was coming and this didn't disappoint! She's an amazing character with her secret and how well she can use a sword! Tuck complements her well and I love his humor and his caring. Of course the other characters are back to work together in this final fight. Another must read series by this author, can't wait to read what she brings us next!

Tempting the Maiden is the third book in the Sherwood Forest Shifters series. It revolves around Maid Marian, the fairest in the land and Friar Tuck. I found it so funny that Friar Tuck is only a Friar because he was born third in line and that's what happens to those who are born third. He resembles more of a knight (a role given to the second born).

In an effort to avoid giving away the plot lines, this was such a fun read and brought all the story lines together. You won't want to miss it!

Satisfying conclusion!

Overall: 4 Stars
Performance: 5 Stars
Story: 4 Stars

The book concludes the trilogy by bringing Marian and Tuck together. They're a sweet couple who deal with the obstacles facing them as a team. I enjoyed how Prince John and Lord Guy's sister (name escapes me) were handled. The return of the wayward King Richard held an interesting twist.

As someone who doesn't generally enjoy epilogues, I truly enjoyed this one.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the audiobook.

Strong Finish to a Great Story

While the focus shifts (no pun intended) to Friar Tuck and Maid Marian, the overall story arc, that strongly echoes the Robin Hood legend, winds its way to the ending we all expect. There are many differences that remain true to the reshaping of the legend. With the possible exception of King Richard, the real leaders are strong willed women accompanied by an army of shifters who remain true to the real king and fairness for the people. Great story telling and character development. All three books were consistently good.

Maid Marian and Friar Tuck find themselves falling hard for each other even though they know they can never be together. Marion has been kidnapped by the want to be king and innocents are in mortal danger. Dangerous and underhanded schemes are happening in and around Nottingham. A very entertaining action suspense adventure.

Tuck was due to take his vows as a priest even though his heart was not into it. When he finds Marian hiding away at the Abby he knows that she is made for him. As a lion shifter he senses that she is special. And wow, when she shifts it is truly magical. Now they have to find a way to stop her marriage to the tyrannical Prince John. With the help of other shifters they will have to work together to save several lives.

AUDIBLE
Loved this in audible. It was my favourite book in this series. Not because it winds everything up, but because it played out so well.
BOOK REVIEW
Such a fun read and it really plays out so well with the previous two books.
I loved the secret side Mariane had and how that worked.
The near ending was nail biting and a great relief when King Richard turned up.
But the best part was from that point on.
It was superb. Really glad the traitorous monk was dealt with.

Marian is hiding and trying to rally support for her cause. Tuck is a knight stuck in a priest's position. These two have an interesting meeting. Neither is sure of the other or their intentions, yet they find themselves drawn together.
I really loved this story and the ending of the series. I will miss all of these characters.

Enjoyed this whole series!! I was fully on board for the Robin Hood aspects for this series and the addition of shifters. So fun! Gotta love some sweet romance too! This one has Marian and Tuck as the leads, but Robynne Hood and the Merrymen are along for the ride too. A dash of intrigue and action as they work towards helping those in need and take down the corrupt. Entertained the whole time!

Last book in this fantastic series and Anna Lowe does an amazing job bringing Robin Hood to Life but giving it a fantastic twist that gives it new life. Absolutely love the narrator as always Kelsey Osborne is amazing but love the new introduction of a male narrator Chris Merlin hopefully more to come.
Would have loved it as a duet but both did an amazing job.

Brilliant Series

Tempting the Maiden (Sherwood Forest Shifters Book 3) by Anna Lowe. Marion is in the hands of Prince John. Robynne has been arrested and about to be hanged. Will the plan the outlaws have devised work or will there be devine interference.
