Black Cherry: A Black Lesbian Anthology

Rate this book
What would it take to indulge your deepest fantasy...?

Perhaps, a mix of poetry and prose that is at turns sweet and wickedly divine?

L.M. Bennett’s snarky short, “Regards, My Dear,” introduces Thayer, who meets the awkward Wil, and despite an immediate connection that rattles them both, their attraction remains unspoken. In Sandra Hamlin’s humorous narrative of unexpected love in “Warm Velvet,” she presents with two women meeting and questioning their compatibility only to realize that opposites might attract after all. Literary Stud spins a hilarious tale of a couple’s rendezvous denied, again, again and again in “Anticipation.” “Just Married,” by Abernathy Ross, features Gio and Adele, a couple celebrating their honeymoon in a unique location as they push each other to feverish heights.

These short stories are only the tip of the cherry that explores the unique ways women are intimate with each other. Black Cherry dives into conventional and unconventional relationships with a perfect balance of romance and eroticism.

A diverse collection of stories and poetry.

This was a brilliant collection of romantically themed short stories and poems by black authors that have been arranged into a lovely anthology. There really was something for everyone in here, from the short and sweet to the more hard core BDSM and erotica themed works.

It was imaginative and exciting, with each individual piece bringing something unique and different. It showed many different views and interpretations and love, and although some pieces aren’t for the faint hearted everything was emotional, sensual or had an underlying level of depicting true love and trust. A great collection of authors have contributed a piece or a couple of pieces, each providing a personal insight into a moment, feeling or sensation that good be vividly imagined given the way they were portrayed.

A really good anthology, showing diversity not only in story telling but in cultural, spiritual, feelings and thoughts on a variety of romantic or love based scenarios.

If you enjoy reading sensually penned poems, short stories and erotica, then you will enjoy this anthology. It is a collection of writings from 18 different authors. Each selection is written in a unique style and personality of its own. This book offers the reader a variety of literary experiences, each one refreshing and different. Every author contributes something that gratifies the senses and wets the appetite. Many of the writings are sensual and tantalizing. Some are quite graphic and hot, using words that awaken the senses and prompt vivid and sexy images. Though some of the pieces are quite carnal and erotic, their intent is to convey beauty and sensuality. Each selection is written with passion and honesty. As a whole, it can only be described as a luxurious sybaritic delight.

Did Not Finish

DNFed 20%

An unpolished but promising opening, then straight downhill with copious amounts of poorly-written smut…

I DNFed this a year ago, but I was determined to finish. What should have been a quick read was agonizing.

Too many BDSM stories that were far too long. The stories that weren’t just smut were few and far between, and not one spoke to issues I think are important in our community in terms of storytelling. The editing was also pretty weak throughout.

I bought this book to support my love for Black women, lesbians and anthologies… but the time it took to finish was not worth it.

5 stars. Loved everything about this. I loved that it was a mixture of short stories and poetry and just about every piece in this hit for me personally. Such a great read. There was a lot of pieces in this that I loved but my absolute favorite was ‘Just Married’ by Abernathy Ross. So good and it made me want more. Overall, a fantastic collection and I would highly recommend it.

Different Tastes

At first I thought it was not going to a novel but as I got into it, I realized it was definitely different. I wasn’t sure what to think but I loved these short stories, poems and dreams. I love erotic details and this book didn’t hold back.
