I made a potion to fix my mum’s broken mind but only time will tell if it will succeed – or if it will fail like all my previous attempts. As her condition worsens, I’m doing everything I can to save her, but when there’s an attack at the Other circus my priorities have to shift.
The circus is the Other realm’s equivalent to a witness-protection programme, and I’ve hidden two of my witches there. When one of them is nearly killed, I realise there is a mole in my coven. I need to find out who the traitor is before it’s too late.
Things are heating up. It's becoming clear that I need to confront the black Coven and its immoral leader – who just happens to be my estranged father. I’ve heard the prophecy about the coming conflict between us, but I’m more than happy to say ‘screw you’ to my supposed fate. No one tells me what to do; I’m the captain of my own ship and I dictate where she sails.
Yet whether I want it or not, my destiny is calling – and she says that death is on the cards. But whose?
Don't miss this witchy series if you like humour, heart and a strong heroine with a slow burn, enemies to lovers, fade-to-black romance.
I never seen it coming! Honestly, these books are so addictive and always surprising. The entire series has captivated me. I think I know what is going to happen and then BOOM I'm wrong again! Love it ❤️
It's just so sad that I'm now in the waiting game and eagerly looking forward to rejoining Lucy and her pack
This book is like having your best friend curl up with you over a steaming cup of tea and unload all the juicy tidbits from her chaotic life – in the most delightful and heartwarming way possible! I was so thoroughly invested in this story, my heart was pounding and my eyes were glued to the page. The ending was a pure delight, leaving me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. Amber has truly blossomed into an incredible character, and her romance is as captivating as ever. As well as that, the supporting characters are nothing short of phenomenal, and Benji, so sweet and hilarious, certainly deserves a mention.
Amber won me over from her first novella (frankly, from her first appearance way back in Jinx's first story) and this series has solidified her as my favourite of the bunch. Her growth has been wonderful to read, her relationship with Bastion full of swoons. Great conflict, great tension, a few moments of heartbreak, this finale offers a bit of everything. Satisfying, engaging, chef's kiss.
While I really did enjoy the series, it was the stories and Ms. Harris’ overall writing skill that kept me coming back rather than the specific characters in this instance. Amber never did really win my heart and I still stand by my opinion that Bastion is a character that had such amazing potential but was wasted as just Amber’s tag-along, rather than a strong character in his own right who could make decisions and fight alongside her.
Everything wraps into a very nice ending to the series. There were twists and turns that surprise and kept me turning the pages. Some of those surprises and twists, however, are pretty unbelievable - to the point the eye-rolling was noticeable (her mom’s thread, especially).
But overall, I am glad I read the series, I just wasn’t in love with the series - and this last book exemplifies all the reasons for both in a nutshell.
This book was so well written and the world building of fantastic! Amber's story is incredible and so entertaining! It's like a nonstop roller coaster, once you get in you're in for the ride of your life! The complexity of the relationships and characters is beyond beautiful!
I received an advance review copy for free, I am leaving this review voluntarily and it may contain spoilers!
Just when you think you may have all of the characters figured out – total lie I‘m useless at figuring out motives – Heather yanks the expensive antique rug from under your feet and laughs out Loud as you land on your backside in shock!
Picking up from where Familiar finished, Amber the new Crone, heads back to her coven to start passing on the baton to the next coven leader, as well as to complete her personal potion projects. Amber and Bastion along with Benji and Oscar, are soon back on the trail of the former black witches rebranded to a more suitable adjective – evil!
Amber's journey of discovery over this series has been wonderful and sometimes frustrating because you feel as if you are right there with her, especially with Amber’s quirks funny mugs – snap, strange and quirky romance novels – does it need to be said? I’m reviewing one! A man who takes care of her wellbeing as well as protecting and loving her, he surprised her with books!!
Add to that a feeling of family prevalent throughout the Other Realm and it’s no wonder that Heather G Harris is one of my favourite authors of the decade!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
“The perception of evil varies depending on which side you’re on.” High Priestess Liyana
However, some acts are pure evil no matter which side of the line you stand on and Amber can see that clearly. She doesn’t just see though. She acts, leading to us finally seeing Amber confront the head of the coven of evil witches.
What a ride this has been. Amber and Bastion have become my favorite Otherverse couple and it has been so satisfying to watch her create a family and step into her destiny. As always, this book is well written and the timing is great. I mean, I was hooked from the first chapter. No spoilers here. Just know that the end is heartwarmingly perfect with many of the characters we have come to know and love all in one place.
This is the final installment of this story arc. Don’t worry! The author assures us that the stories from the Otherverse will keep coming. Also, Amber has noted that there is still work to do, so hopefully, we will see more Other Witch stories as well. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, read (or even reread) the connected Otherverse series.
In this book we find out ALL OF IT as this series wraps up. There were so many "WH...A...T...?!?" moments that just knocked my socks off. I found myself rereading parts because I knew I flew through them too quickly and needed to make sure I understood and savored everything. And when some time has passed, I'm going to read all the books again (ALL of them, not just Amber's) so I can savor everything all over again. Amber's books are the best, in my opinion, but all of them are really good and worth enjoying multiple times.
And if (when?) there are more books in the Other, I will be right there. Every time.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I'm also buying this book and all books in this world because I LOVE the Other!
This was a fantastic conclusion to (at least this arc of) Amber’s series! I started the series a bit skeptical in that I wasn’t particularly drawn to its main characters, Amber and Bastion. But Heather Harris worked her magic, crafting both as highly likable individuals who became even better together. Amber, in particular, grew tremendously over the course of the stories, becoming the person she always aspired to be in her daily affirmations.
In addition to the wonderful character arc, this book wraps up most of the main external conflict with the evil witches, all with some great action and some interesting revelations. I’m hopeful that the few dangling threads means we will, at some point in the future, get more books featuring Amber and Bastion!
I was scared to read this last book. I didn't want Amber and Bastion's story to end.
Most books have at least 2 or 3 story lines that are predictable. Not this one. Just when I thought I figured something out, I was proven wrong. I stayed on the edge of my seat the whole time.
I thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series. Heck, I've enjoyed EVERY book I've ever read from Heather!
Heather G Harris never ceases to amaze me! Fabulous final book! Fabulous story! Fabulous Author!
Heather, you've created a world in the Other Realm that I don't want to leave....so I ask, what's next? 'Cause I'm ready for it!
Amber has gone from a lonely witch with no friends, only ambition to the Crone (leader of the witches) with friends, family and love. She still has a lot on her plate with trying to defeat the evil witches, cure her mom, get used to friends and love. There is a fair amount of action in this book as well as a lot of humour. Benji and Frogmatch are great characters – you never really know what they are going to do or how they will react. This was a great ending to a great series and I’m so glad there are more books in the Other Realm coming so we can see more of these great characters. As usually this was a quick, easy, enjoyable read that I highly recommend.
This book was everything I wanted it to be and then some.
In the finale of this series, Heather wrapped up Amber's story, (at least for now I hope!) with twists and turns all the way through. There was at least one absolute corker I never saw coming at all and some excellent character arc that came full circle.
Amber has really grown as a character and I'm now fully invested in her life, and her relationship with Bastion, who is one of Heather's best characters.
If you haven't picked up any of the Other Realm series, do yourself a favour and start with Jinx's story. You won't regret it!
So. Here it is. The fourth and final book of the original Other Witch Trilogy. For everyone who's stuck around until the end (and I don't see why you wouldn't have), Destiny is bound to bring you feelings of excitement and loss, impressions of power-hungry individuals affecting you as a bestseller should. Amber is finally getting out of her own way and realising that she can be, and is worthy of being happy. She might not have reached all of her lofty goals just yet, but she has something better - a family. It also wouldn't be a true book in the Other Realm, though, if there wasn't some measure of room for another series or two, but only Heather and her closest confidants know where her writing will take her next.
I'm absolutely wrecked in the best way. This conclusion to Amber's story was absolutely and completely perfect.
Crone, Amber is now the crone and carries the weight of hunting down the evil coven. On top of that, there is still the prophecy to deal with. When the Other Circus, and the witches she's hidden there, is attacked Amber has to look closer at the people in her coven that she trusts. Now, her mom's health is failing faster than before and time is running out to save her. The hunt brings her closer to Home than she expected. But, Amber is no longer fighting alone. With Bastion, Benji, Oscar, and Frogmatch by her side- Amber will take the bad guys down
The ending of this book (and series) is perfect. I'm gonna miss hanging out with Amber but I'm excited for whatever comes next.
As always, the other real awaits.
I received an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own and freely given.
I can’t believe that this series is over, but wow what a series finale it was. Amber has been a favorite of mine since she was a side character in another series, and this one just solidified that. Amber has gone through so much in this, and it really changed her in a good way. Bastion is perfect for her, and he keeps her on her toes. This latest and last book is filled with wonderful action, surprising twists, shocking revelations, and just so much love. I am thrilled with this author’s writing, and this book really shows why. Series fans will definitely love this. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Amber and Bastion are such a good couple. The way they resolve issues, the lack of ego games, and although Bastion is physically ridiculously strong, there's none of the alpha male nonsense that you get so often in these kinds of books.
There's a lot of sad things in this book, because it's the last book of the series and things have to be resolved and they aren't always resolved happily. That's just not realistic. But overall it's a book that's full of joy and hope and I loved it.
Well what can I say I have loved Amber's series of books. I can't believe this ties up the storyline.
First of all, I always pride myself in guessing plot points and what's going to happen. That went right out the window Heather G Harris got me several times in this one with unexpected reveals and twists.
There was so much happiness at the end of this book that I couldn't contain my grin, I'm overjoyed in how rich Amber's life has become since we first met her in Jinx's books.
Heather G Harris has become one of my favourite authors, her stories are so engaging and well written with great characters what's not to love!
Destiny of the Witch is the fourth and final book in the Other Witch series and a culmination of Amber’s prophecy. Amber has the qualities I look for in a female major character as she is strong, smart, willing to listen to her heart (ok that took a bit for her but she got there), confident and talented!
There is also lots of action while Amber figures out how to find and eliminate the evil witches. She also does what she does best to eliminate them with potions and runes. Of course Bastion is by her side as is her “dad”
If you haven’t read the series what are you waiting for?
I received an ARC from the author, but this review is my own. Knowing this was the last book of Amber's, I was expecting a lot from it, and I wasn't disappointed one bit. With more responsibility given to her, she has learnt that asking for help isn't a bad thing and learns to delegate. Amber embraces her destiny head on, she excels at everything she puts her mind to. This book has everything you could want from a finale. While it does answer the questions from all the previous books, it also leaves you wanting more. I'm hoping to see more of Amber in the future.
Objectively, this was just as good as the other books in The Other series, but I just struggled to get into it, and it took me longer to finish than any other by this author. But the end chapter made it all worth it.
So... I got bored. I read 30% of the book, but I was just not into the series anymore. I was feeling like the same things over and over and the steam was lacking.
Destiny of the Witch brings together all of the storylines of the first 3 books, as Amber and those close to her, Bastion, Oscar, Benji and Frogmatch work to bring down the Black Coven. Destiny of the Witch opens with Amber hopeful she has crafted a potion to heal her Mum’s ailing mind. Book 4 covers multiple story arcs, with Amber visiting the Circus, trying to save her Mum’s familiar, taking on her new role as the Crone and all that entails. As a part of this, she continues to unravel aspects of the prophecy she learned, gaining new understanding of different passages, and realising that she has misinterpreted lines in parts she thought she already understood. Amber faces the prophecy head on in this fourth book in the series, determined that it won’t decide her fate for her, and she will decide her own Destiny. However, she also knows that with her Father being the head of the Black Coven, she is going to have to come head-to-head with him eventually. But in the meantime, she has to try and save her Mother, her familiar, save Meredith and Ria who she left at the circus and have come under attack, find a new Coven Mother for her own Coven, find out who her Father ACTUALLY is, and discover not only how many Evil Witches there are, but WHO they are? All in a day’s work for Amber DeLea, especially when she has not only Bastion at her side, but her trustworthy friends! Throughout this book, (and this series), Amber continues to realise the depth of her feelings for Bastion as well. Their relationship grows stronger through every trial they have to face together and learning of Bastion’s true bond with her, has only made their connection deeper. This series has been somewhat darker than the rest of the ‘Other’ series, with Amber’s character facing the Black Coven and Evil Witches. However, Harris has continued to keep a strong streak of levity throughout the series with her trademark sense of humour in her characters (Amber is wickedly sarcastic, and the Golems are just hilarious), and highly amusing things such as the mugs that appear constantly in every book. The character work continues to be exceptional and one of the true highlights of this series (not just the Other Witch, but the Other series as a whole). Amber’s character is brilliant, as the powerful Coven Mother, who has faced numerous challenges in her life, but risen to the peak of her profession at Runes and Potions, as well as being a highly respected Coven Mother and Witch. When elevated to the position of ‘Crone’, one of the most respected positions a Witch can hold, no one argues this. Bastion continues to be the terrifying Griffin, the deadliest assassin on Earth, and yet, we see the other side to him with Amber, this gentle, loving, caring person. It is a fascinating contrast from the character we have come to know throughout the other books in the series. There are so many other wonderful characters in this book as well, Benji and David are fantastic as the two childlike Golems, with the power to crush a tank. Their innocence about the world is beautiful, and at times brings both a sense of wonder and hilarity to the story. Frogmatch on the other hand, is just chaos unleashed, and is nothing but entertaining! Destiny of the Witch continues not only the Other Witch series, but the Epic Other series, in what is a stunning conclusion to this particular set of books. Harris seems to be only getting better with every book, as her Characters gain more depth, the world she is creating (the Other Realm that sits alongside the Common Realm), grows in more detail, and the stories are compelling, intriguing, and wonderfully multifaceted. If you love a good Urban Fantasy tale, this is an absolute must read. Destiny of the Witch is not to be missed, and if you haven’t read ‘The Other Witch Series’ – the what are you waiting for?
We came to the conclusion of "The Other Witch" series. I'm sad, because Amber is my favorite character from "The Other Realm" universe. The finale was great, I couldn't ask for better ending. I'll try to avoid the spoilers here because it's book 4 about Amber.
Heather takes us for amazing story, full of plot twists, quick events and some spicy moments. In "Destiny of the Witch" we follow Amber on a black witch hunt. She needs to deal with internal Coven's issues; unexpected attacks and deaths; her mother's broken mind and her father's past. Luckily, Amber is surrounded by friends. In this book she finally fully counts on her friends and doesn't try to do everything independently. On top of that, Amber really wants to protect them, and the cost doesn't matter here. For me she is a perfect person to have this very specific position in the Witches Society, which she has. I really like the way how her personality changed from "Hex of the Witch" (1st book in "The Other Witch" series).
We have in this book, the whole series, a bunch of really well written side characters. Maybe, I should write more about them, as it's a series finale. First thing first, Bastion, the Griffin. I love him, he is sarcastic deadly assassin, who will kill you before you will be able to even realize what is going on, but deeply inside he has a really warm heart. Frogmatch, the imp. Can I adopt him? He is so cute with his small jokes, when he gets shoes lances tangled, and he is doing it with focus and full commitment. But, don't be fooled he is dangerous and will protect his friends till the end. Benji, the golem, is the cutest, innocent creature, which I have ever met. I love his way to learn about human's world and accommodate to that. His friendship with Oscar melted by heart. They both needed another person in their lives and they finished as flatmates. Finally, Luna, Amber's mother. Now, when I have the whole story, I understand her better. Her sacrifices to protect Amber, and not only her, were huge. I really like how her story ends.
Author built incredibly detailed world, but the descriptions doesn't overwhelmed a reader. We're learning about the world by following Amber in her journey. "Destiny of the Witch" definitely has less witches politic, but more dynamic, fighting scenes. Personally, I highly appreciate that because previous books from the series already gave us a knowledge about witches society structure; and now it's time for kicking black witches butts. Few times by heart almost stopped, when some specific events took place, but the ending compensate everything.
I said it multiple times, but Heather's writing style is so light. I read last night 230 pages of this book, and I didn't notice that it's almost 2am. I was running through the pages because I needed to know what will happen in the next chapter.
If you need a well written, interesting urban fantasy story about witches, griffins, dragons, and other magical creatures, this book and the whole "The Other Realm" universe is for you.
As this book opens, Amber along with Benji and Bastion are waiting to see the Seer. She needs the potions she carried tested to see which one would help her mother. They've been cooling their heels for a while and Amber's come to the end of her patience. She has Bastion kick down the door. Liyana is taken aback when she threatens the withdrawal of the Coven Council. Then she informs Liyana that Melva's killer has been dealt with and asks for the potions to be tested. Only one fills the requirements, yet Liyana tells her it won't cure her mother.
They go visit her mother and Charlotte gives her mother the potion, it doesn't work, and Amber notices Lucille her mother's familiar is fading. She's sure it's because of the energy she's using to help her mother, so she takes some blood to develop a potion to help Lucille hold on. Her mother also remembers her at the end of that visit and tells her it's in the painting.
Jinx calls to say hello and they agree to meet up once she's home. Jinx is very happy that Amber has removed the curse from Bastion as well. Dick Syms calls in another potion request and she goes to fulfil that. The results of using the truth potion are enlightening.
She creates a potion to help Lucille, she just needs it tested. After breakfast with Bastion, they have a training session. She discovers the pendant of her predecessors, gifts her the knowledge of those within, when she needs it. Then the circus calls, Meridith has been attacked and needs help. Her and Ria would no longer be safe there so Amber would need to figure out where to take them.
That is the first of the unsettling incidents in this book. It's the second that disturbs Amber the most. When they returned to the coven the night before there was a gathering and Oscar stayed to party with the witches. Now this morning he didn't leave her customary juice and oatmeal. Concerned she and Bastion go to his apartment to find Benji deactivated, and Oscar had been poisoned but managed to get himself in stasis.
Once Amber heals Oscar, she turns her attention to finding the culprits and reactivating Benji. With Oscar and Ethan searching, she heads to her apartment with Bastion to get Grimmy's help.
This isn't the last incident or even the worst to come out. Amber knows there is no escaping the prophesy she knows or the latest one from Venice at the circus.
There is hardly a page in this book that doesn't reveal something new, be it benign or evil. I couldn't stop reading, just to be sure everything works out and Amber gets her happily ever after.
Look, I really like the overarching stories Ms Harris writes. They are vivid, imaginative, and have a lot of heart, wit, and humor. I don’t want other people reading this review to think I dislike the books, I’m clearly invested as I’ve read all of The Other Realm books and would happily read anymore that are published.
What I’d like to ask now is…wtaf? How did Amber become so willfully obtuse and oblivious? I feel as if a large portion of the regard for Amber that was built up in Jess and then Lucy’s story, it all seems to be chipped away in her own series, especially in these last 2 books. For that matter Bastion certainly doesn’t seem to be all that sharp, either, at least not compared to the entirety of the world built within the series.
Not only does she seem a bit oblivious, but after she has uncovered each witch and either allowed them to live or they had performed some sort of magic on her or her compound, there is NO FOLLOWUP or consideration of double crossing her as part of Shaun’s plan. Things kept happening in places where Ria was, uh, hello?! I don’t get it! Didn’t Jeb build half or more than half of her coven compound? Perform the memory break or whatever, it seems ridiculous to think evil witches did everything on the up and up. And she was pissy about Shaun lying to her about the Apo griffin being duplicitous to cover for Ria who is his daughter? Too much shit going on in this last battle, first of all. Then Shaun just meanders out to get a passed out Rhia and Amber acts like all is well, no worries, Shaun is going to do this innocuous thing and not be sneaky. For that matter, why would you want Rhia in the room or allow their father to touch her. You mean she’s just going to stay passed out the entire time? Then!! The Connection officers come and Shaun and Ria are handcuffed with their hands in front of them?! Why would you let this man stay alive?! I do not get this world at this point. Bastion or Charlize or Shirdal need to execute him pronto.

I've loved everything this author has written so far so it is no surprise to me that this was just as wonderful as everything else. This is a general non spoilery review for the whole series. The world is so rich and well developed. I loved Amber's character, her inner voice is so different from the slightly cold and unbending version we get of her in Lucy and Jinx's books, although we were beginning to see her soften as she was offered unconditional friendship from these two. Hearing what she thought of the other two and how much she valued them was everything I want to read about. I love platonic friendships in books as much as if not more than romantic relationships as it makes the world so much more believable and richer. And Bastion is every girls version of a hero, I loved the romance of these two and the adventure/mystery. I got so completely invested in the mystery and adventure itself, it was a rollercoaster with a satisfying climax, bringing together events from other books and further making this a world I love and is on my autobuy list. But to me the things that make these books stand out head and shoulders above so much other urban fantasy is the character dynamics and the 'little' details. Amber's sense of humour coming out in her mug collection for example, the little laughs, the moments of introspection and learning, and the touch of true friendship. They feel like my friends now and when I put down a book it is with a sense of loss. This author deserves to be shouted from the rooftops.
Wow! What an incredible ending to the first part of Amber’s story (the first of many, I hope!!).
This book had many twists and turns, and I was shook by all of them! The way Heather hides her main villain so effortlessly throughout her books, you genuinely never see it coming each time, and I LOVE IT. The plots of these books are just so intricate, it’s so much fun. It’s always a mystery within a mystery, and this book was the best one yet!
I just love Amber as a heroine. Since she first appeared in Jinx’s first series, Amber’s always been such a strong force, and she really shines as a lead. She’s just so damn relatable, it really pulls you in.
Also Bastion? Literally one of my favourite book boyfriends ever. The mugs? The books? So incredibly romantic? A complete badass? Top tier boyfriend. He’s also a character that you just instantly loved in Jinx’s story, and it’s great to see a more in depth look at the deadly griffin assassin.
I’ll never not praise Heather G. Harris and the Other Realm. If you love everything magical, murder mysteries, and badass witty heroines, then this is literally the perfect author/world for you!
Oh. My. GOD!! This book was heart-explodingly good! The tension just about killed me. Thank God for the funny parts, so my blood pressure didn't get too high. The tension was handled SO well. It was just ratcheted tighter, then tighter, then tighter still – and then there would be a funny line for a laugh, and right back to tightening the tension! The pacing in this book is amazing; the action never stops, but along with the action there is a steady growth in the development and relationships of the characters.
Amber's personal growth over the arc of the series is so realistic, given who she is and where she started. Some of it was won at great personal struggle, some slid into her heart before she even noticed, and she gradually became a deeper and more mature person. I was especially touched by how startled she was as other characters started showing her the honor and respect due her position.
When the “action” parts of the story were finally resolved, and things calmed down, the emotions didn’t end. I actually got goosebumps at one point, and I don't remember that ever happening to me from a book before!
Dear Heather G. Harris -Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your talent with the world! Don't ever stop writing! May you grow to be as prolific as Nora Roberts or James Patterson!
Destiny of the Witch is the fourth book in Amber’s story, the Other Witch. Up to this point, we’ve heard bits and rumors of Amber’s prophesy, but it all comes to a head in this book and the stakes cannot be higher! Amber’s the new Crone and one of her jobs is to find the evil witches and defeat their coven, which means finally finding and facing off with her father. There’s also been an attack on the Other Circus, which divides Amber’s focus as she rushes to help. She has a lot on her plate, but with Bastion and Benji by her side, she’s up for the challenge.
I really like Amber and I love her relationship with Bastion. It’s just awesome how far they’ve come since the beginning. Benji’s been a great addition to her group of friends as well. There’s a lot that happens in this book and I loved it all. I want to talk about it, but I won’t give any spoilers, so I’ll just say that I’m really happy with how things wrapped up in this book. I believe this is the end of Amber’s main story, but it’s clear that Amber still has things to do and hopefully that will play out in the next book in the Other series (which I cannot wait for of course). I really enjoyed this book as I have all books in the Other series and I highly recommend them all!
