DNF @ 39%
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and I laughed until I could not breathe and tears were coming out of my eyes. With that being said though, I wasn’t really feeling this book.
I think Nikko was a lot and I didn’t like Althea’s attitude. But that wasn’t even the reason for my DNF. It was the fact I knew Mia and Teddy were gonna get together and I just don’t think it for one makes sense and two, he didn’t deserve her. I immediately realized this was the same Teddy from Elodie story and that wasn’t even the thing that deterred me from their relationship. Every time I felt like he had a redeeming quality he insulted the hell out of her and did something that was overly petty and aggressive in a way.
They started as neighbors who didn’t like each other. They barely spoke to each other outside of passing in the halls and him teasing her. As soon as they had sex all of a sudden it’s, “he’s your soulmate so you gotta put up with his shit eventually”. I ain’t like that. It felt like Teddy had free range to play on her emotions with little to no consequences. Granted I haven’t finished the story but it’s been a pattern so far, and I’d hate to see it continue until he finally gets his shit together.
Another reader pointed out how the author likes to build toxic relationships or make the women go through so many hardships before they get their happy endings. I can definitely agree with that. But I also like the way they play out in the other two series that I’ve read from her. In those books, it feels like the final love interest actually works towards making up for the mistakes and it’s usually not as dire considering the circumstances. Like Shaheem, fucked up and it was fuck him but he made up for it and I actually felt like he meant it, the same thing with Percy. With Teddy now? I just think he’s extremely spoiled w/ a shitty personality.
Wow, that was a lot. But yeaaa…I’m stopped my reading here, I don’t like Teddy or Monty. Monty was at least funny at times tho. I’ll most definitely check out the rest of this author's stories cause she funny as hell and knows how to write an engaging story.
