Michelle just wants to take some pictures on a beautiful day out by the lake. But the boys from the Bowery have different plans. She's going to be put through hell, but these farmers don't want her to scream, they want her to moo!
Matthew Vaughn lives in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He is the father of three little girls and a little boy, yet he and his wife are just big kids too. By day he maintains machines and robots, but, by night he is a writer of Horror and Bizarro fiction. You can keep up with his work at http://mcvaughn.wordpress.com/ or on Facebook. This book begins to answer some lingering questions left behind by the first book. We learn more about the mother cow, her purpose, and how she is maintained. We get more details about most of the things I felt was missing from the first book. We’re starting to learn about the people running the bowery. All of this is revealed through the story of a single abduction and her introduction to her new life as a cow. But she is a special case. The powers that be decide they want to inspect her personally and she ends up seeing more of the inner workings than most do. It is brutal and bizarre and I want more. There are still a lot of questions, but it’s looking like Vaughn will be expanding on this series and I’m here for it.
Buckle up, folks! The boys from the bowery are back! If you liked Bowery, you will not be disappointed in this. I need Part 2 right now! You get to learn a little bit more about what the farm is truly about. Just as disturbing and vile as the first book. Vaughn delivers another winner. Do not miss it. Available on Godless! MOOOO!
Story starts as brutally as the last one, with another victim called Theresa. Enduring a humiliating and violent fate at the hands of Lex and his thugs. Matthew as always knows how to write a scene that makes you physically sick. Honestly after doing the research for my latest project, I never realised how horribly accurate the Bowery series is. Detailing how these women are treated and the horrors they endure, as cattle. Being looked upon with the same indifference as a cow. Just there to produce milk and meet the sadistic needs of these farmers. Bowery depicts something very real, which made me also consider the stark difference between the treatment of humans to animals. Moving onto the story of Michelle which is basically filled with I spit on your grave vibes. All she wanted was to get some nice pictures and instead she is assaulted, kidnapped and endures a worse fate than death. Matthew takes this sequel to a whole other level of depravity. Honestly he knows how to make the reader squirm in their seat. The brutal assault scenes, the baby scene and the way the women on the farm are treated all impact on the reader to give a very visceral reaction. Considering what I know and having read his previous Bowery story, I just know part two will be equally as dark and equally as vile.
When this book hit my inbox I read it right away. I’m a big fan of Vaughn’s work and I’m always excited when he releases something new.
In this one, the boys from the Bowery are back and they’re as nasty, if not nastier, as ever.
A big surprise for me was that Matt included me in the dedication of this book. It’s always nice when authors acknowledge their readers and I got choked up when I saw my name 🥹
If your a regular reader of extreme horror I highly recommend this one but read Bowery first. They’re both available on godless.com.
I am anticipating the release of part 2 because I have so many questions that is left unanswered. I need to know more about Mother Cow. That character gives me all the yuck feelings, and I need to know all the details. The writing was fantastic, just like the first one. I love the storyline, because it seems unique to anything I've read before.
Just as sick and twisted as the first installment, only this time crosses over into the weird and bizarro territory. If you liked the first book in the series you’ll probably like this one even more.
A fun follow-up to Bowery as we see the expanding of the lore. The story did feel like half a story, but it is called Part one so it's to be expected. Great characters, awesome concept, and looking forward to reading the second part.
Short and gross! I had to read this one after reading the first book. We’ve got cows and gore all over here. This one gives a little bit more of a look into the farm and has great disturbing imagery!
Matthew Vaughn is one sick f*ck, and that's why we like him so much. I finally dove into these and I can't wait for part 3. This sequel to Bowery puts you more into the back story of everything going on, and I can promise it's not what you expect!
Sick sick sick like only Vaughn can do. It's one of those stories fucked up enough to have you question why you're reading it and worse yet enjoying it.
Book 2 has feels different to book 1. The bad guys are less pragmatic and careful and instead of being focused on the farm we get to see them on a hunt. As with the first instalment there are a lot of trigger warnings for this one but definitely less gore. That's not to say this isn't as extreme but Matthew has wound that into the tale through very different means.
We also get to see that there seems to be some occult things going on which I'm all for. I love the concept of the occult and any time it appears in a book I'm intrigued. I'm hoping that as this is part 1 of book 2 we get to see some more of that in action.
*SPOILER ABOUT BOOK ONE* In this story we find out more about the mother cow and her way of life which I thoroughly enjoyed. *SPOILER END*
I had to ask Matthew where abouts this stood in chronological order compared to book 1, not that it matters but because I'm a bit anal about those sorts of things and he informed me this is prior to book 1's events.
All in all another great entry and it's sitting at 4/5. Although it's part of a series I don't think the two are comparable because of how different the approach to the story is.
