Abigail King is a young and ambitious postdoctoral researcher in Emerald Bay University’s sociology department.
As a child, she was exceptional: graduated high school at 16, sailed through university, and earned a doctorate at 23. But as an adult, Abi’s found she hasn’t accomplished nearly as much as she thought she would.
She’s chronically single, lives in a tiny apartment, the job she loves is about to be axed due to budget cuts, and to top it all off? She just got invited to her ten-year reunion hosted by her high school bully… and her ex-fiancé.
What’s a girl to do?
Ask your best friend to be your fake fiancé on a two-week road trip across Canada, of course!
Logan Flynn is one of Emerald Bay’s best and brightest professors in the Sociology department who has followed in his late father’s footsteps. At 36, he’s published books, papers, and even traveled the world discussing his research on medically assisted death.
He’s got it all: a gorgeous house, friends and a job he loves, a surplus of mismatched socks, and a great horror movie collection…
But the one thing he doesn’t have is Abigail King.
When she asks him to be her fake fiancé and embark on a two-week road trip through Canada, he doesn’t hesitate to say yes. After all, he’d do anything for her— even if traveling in close quarters means their complicated history rears its head…
And faking it becomes more difficult than either of them could imagine..
Thea Lawrence is a neurodivergent PhD dropout turned romance author. After spending almost a decade in academia studying criminology (with a focus on carceral studies and prison theatre), she decided to shift gears for her mental health.
A lifelong storyteller, Thea has been an actor, burlesque dancer, screenwriter, and even dabbled in painting. Now, she focuses on romance stories with heart, grit, a dash of the forbidden, and a hell of a lot of spice.
Her hobbies include: Reading, binge watching Criminal Minds, reading comic books, coloring, and taking long walks around neighborhood.
I adore a good road trip romance, and when you add in a fake engagement, it just gets better! The love story between Abigail and Logan is so sweet, adorable, and touching. Their chemistry is palpable from the start, making you want to cheer for them to get their happy ending. The story starts one night after Abi gets dumped by her boyfriend, and she ends up meeting Logan at a club. They have an incredible night together! Later, they discover that Abi is the new employee at the university where Logan teaches. Given the circumstances and Abi’s recent breakup, they decide to be friends.
Flash forward three years, and their friendship grows stronger. They become each other's support system. Then, when Abi needs a fake fiancé for her high school reunion back in her hometown, who better to call than Logan? As they embark on their road trip to Canada, their suppressed feelings begin to surface, and they realize that their bond is so much more than friendship.
I loved how Logan is portrayed as the sunny, golden retriever type in this book. He always sees the good in people and is such an optimist! Plus, he’s a romantic at heart, believing that true love is out there for him. Abi is the opposite of Logan. After her rough breakup, she’s hesitant about relationships and struggles with insecurities and anxieties. I found her character relatable and saw bits of myself in her.
The way their relationship transitions from friends to lovers feels so natural. I appreciated how Logan isn’t pushy; he knows deep down that Abi is the one for him. He’s always there for her, boosting her confidence and having her back, no matter what. And let’s talk about the spice—it’s off the charts! Logan might be a bit of a nerd, but he knows how to turn up the heat. The conclusion wraps everything up beautifully without any unnecessary drama. All in all, this is such a sweet story filled with heartwarming moments, touching scenes, and great side characters.
I want to say a massive thank you to Thea for giving me the opportunity to ARC read this wonderful book I had the best time reading 💞
Okay so first things first I absolutely ADORED this read from start to finish I can’t think of a single flaw; it was fun, flirty, full of banter and the tension was unmatched - Doctor Logan Flynn you owned me from the moment you opened your mouth, the way that he loves, cares for and supports Abi is something I can guarantee every single woman on this planet is yearning for. That man is something else entirely, I want to worship the ground that he walks on because he is the definition of a real man 🤭
I am a real lover of a road trip within a book and I had the best time following Logan & Abi on their trip especially because it gave us the opportunity to learn some more about Abi, I loved her character as a whole so I constantly wanted to know more about her and to learn what influenced her to become the sassy spitfire that she is - I loved Abi so much, she is the type of woman that everyone deserves to have as a friend, the way that she always showed up for Logan and the way that she recognised what he needed and when was the most wholesome thing ever. I love the fact that she was his safe space to land at all times it made me so emotional to read (in the best way) 🥹
Overall, the love I have for this one is unmatched it was not only an incredible read but the way that it mixed two of my favourite things (books and Spencer Reid) made it even better for me, I honestly never wanted this journey to end and I would happily read 1000 + page of Logan and Abi if it was an option! Also shout out to Sherri, she is the type of mum that we all deserve - this is also my request to have a hug from her because I truly believe that it would solve all of my life problems ❤️
Two hot smarty-pants getting the fairytale love story they deserve. I love it!!
I knew this book was gonna take me on a roller coaster of emotions when I read the dedication: “For the neurodivergent kids who always felt left out. Go where you’re loved, not where you’re tolerated” (4). I was already in tears by Ch 1.
Abi’s character development meant everything to me. She was like the SOUR album personified. I don’t have her super impressive resume, but her fears and insecurities about not having accomplished enough were all too relatable. Her vulnerable moments shattered me while also making me feel seen. I liked her pettiness—wanting to crush her ex like a roach instead of being the “bigger person”—but then she just kept going with this revenge mission, and it pissed me off a bit how desperate she was to get answers from him. Girlie dodged a bullet and I needed her to take the win. However, this ugly side is SO human and made her transformation all the more satisfying. I loved seeing her find inner peace and move on with a greater appreciation for where she’s at.
Spencer Reid may be the blueprint but Logan Flynn has seriously stepped up for the role 😭😭 UGH the nerdy man of my dreams!! He is a cutie patootie with a great sense of humor. I honestly kept forgetting there was a 10-year age gap between him and Abi because Logan has this childlike energy that makes everything feel lighter. He’s such a patient, attentive, gentle soul… I want him.
As someone with ADHD, I loved the representation. Although Logan never receives a formal diagnosis in the book, the signs are clearly portrayed through his character without becoming his sole identifier. I also appreciated the ways in which drug abuse and medically assisted death are discussed. I felt like I understood their characters more deeply by learning how their backgrounds inspired the focus of their studies. I only wish we could’ve gotten a closer look into that research, especially Logan’s.
As much as the tiptoeing around their feelings was killing me, I like that it actually made sense for them to hesitate with so much at stake. They’re best friends and don’t want to throw that away, plus the university would make one of them leave, and, I mean in this economy?! You hold onto the job you have 😭😭 I appreciated how realistic their issues were.
Their relationship was so heartwarming!! Logan’s awkwardness is so endearing, but I love how Abi perfectly balances him out. There were plenty of moments showing why Logan is good for Abi, but not as many showing why Abi is good for Logan. I wish we had gotten to see Logan lean on her a little more, the way she often leaned on him. Regardless, they understand each other so well and were simply adorable.
Also, I love this advice because I 100% agree: “My mom once told me that the person you choose to spend the rest of your life with should be a reflection of the qualities you’re trying to nurture in yourself. That way, you can grow together” (405). ❤️❤️
The spice was incredible! Here are some of my thoughts during a few of the chapters: Ch 26 and 27: So sensual!! And the build up?! Omfg I love it. Ch 34: Is that physically possible?!?! How long did they hold their breath?!?! Ch 39: OH. That is definitely something!! I like it.
I also want to highlight the fact that Logan learned a few things from reading romance books, and I actually believe it!! Like, the author isn’t just saying this to make him seem more appealing or to turn him into the perfect book boyfriend—this actually aligns perfectly with his character.
The inspiration for Logan is very clearly Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, but then there are some references that felt unnecessary. For example, Abi and Logan sharing non-work appropriate nicknames like Garcia and Morgan did just makes me feel like I’m reading Criminal Minds fanfic—it’s not a bad thing, but also clearly not the focus of this book.
In terms of the writing, there were a few things I didn’t like: 1. I really don’t want to read characters using internet slang. I will scroll though TikTok comments if I want to see the word “rizz.” 2. There were a few inconsistencies or things that just weren’t making sense, but they were very minor. Ex: the ring pop being open but not sticky; Marcus balancing a baby on his even though men don’t have that hip seat; Kat not questioning the proposal happening on their drive to Ontario even though Abi’s original text said she would be traveling with her fiancé. 3. This book could’ve been a little shorter. There were scenes that gave a lot more detail than was necessary or that simply didn’t provide anything to the plot or a charcater’s development. Ex: their extended pool game. 4. I don’t like how the chapter titles are song titles. It feels lazy, and some of them don’t make sense for the events of the chapter.
Random side note: One thing I really loved about the structure of the book was the inclusion of contextual chapters like a “Who’s who in Emerald Bay”, an Academic Glossary, a Dicktionary (perfect if you want to skip the spice), a Book Playlist, and Character Playlists.
Overall, this book was a whole lot of sweetness! Abi showed so much growth and Logan is Prince Charming. I love that these two hot nerds finally gave in to the tension 😌😌
Thank you very much to Thea Lawrence and Luna Literary Management for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
"Show me how good it gets." The overarching theme of this book is to not let someone who you love or the things you want get away. Shout your expectations into the universe, and expect nothing less than every single thing you want. Just because you think you don't deserve it, it doesn't mean that you are not worthy of love or happiness. Show me how good it gets. Show me. I connected to this story in a way that I never really expected (but its a book written by Thea, and she's my soul sister, so is it really unexpected?). This story is incredible, and everyone needs to be blessed with these characters and Emerald Bay. I mean, come on, just look at this dedication: for the neurodivergent kids who always felt left out. Go where you are loved, not where you're tolerated.
When it comes to Logan Flynn, there is no one in this world who is more of a down bad boy for his girl, that he won't admit is his girl even though he very, very much wants her to be his girl, than him. Abi is the sun, the moon, and all the stars in the sky. After losing his father, and deciding that it was easier to swallow his grief and take on the world by being essentially everything to everyone, the one thing he wants most in the world is the one thing he can't have: his best friend. "If I couldn't have Abi as a girlfriend, I still wanted her in my life." His "Sunshine" nickname came from the persona he put forth into the world, "I made sure that everyone felt safe in their grief while I swallowed mine whole... When he's gone, I'm not sure I'll know what to do with all this weight. I don't think I have the strength to carry it with me every day."
When it comes to Abigail King, she's so completely in love with her best friend, its not even funny, even when they are absolutely hilarious together. However, after the actions of characters in the last book, dating at work is, while not strictly forbidden, but highly frowned upon. It's her job, her livelihood, everything she has worked for, or Logan. Notwithstanding the sheer amount of imposter syndrome that she is feeling, wanting a family, wanting more than she is, thinking that she will never be enough because all she is is "mediocre". It seems that the entire world is moving on with their lives and their dreams and leaving her in the dust. Who knew that all it would take to change her life for the better would be an invitation to a high school reunion, bitter resentment and questions left unanswered from an ex, a cross country road trip, and the best friend she's been in love with for years?
I've said it before and I will say it again, screaming it from every rooftop that I can: the way that Thea writes about grief and the feelings surrounding losing someone you love is unparalleled. The topics covered in Swipe Right dove deep into feelings that I thought I had left buried for a long time, but even with the lightheartedness of Crushing It, I found myself aligning more and more with every word written. This story is fun, cute, and the perfect "it's always been you" love story, but while it is lighthearted, it is hauntingly beautiful in the most perfect way. Logan and Abi didn't have to fight for their love in the normal way; the people they were fighting the most were themselves. You know you are in love when everyone around you is not the least bit surprised when you get together. They've told themselves that the only way they can have each other is by being friends, nothing more, nothing less. However, by showing how good it can get, they show each other. "I ran from one small town and found a home in another. In the waves melting onto the shores of the bay. In the mountains and the cedar tress. In the halls of this very building. And in Logan Flynn."
I want everyone in the world to read this book, because it is incredible. It's real, and its beautiful, and I never wanted it to end.
Oh my good lord. How the hell does Thea knock it out of the park every single time a book is released? They just get better and better!
This is probably my favorite Thea book to date. I went through all the motions with this one. I was full on sobbing, happy, teary eyed, on the edge of my seat and cackling like a witch.
The love between Abi and Logan is the most pure thing in this whole world. They are literally each others other half and there’s nothing more to it. No couple has ever fit together as well as these two.
The chapter with Logan and his dad. Absolute heart wrenching and so beautifully written. I had 12,000 different emotions going on in that moment but you can see the love that went into that scene. There was so many elements of this story that were so sensitive and emotional but were written with such a grace and such care. That’s one thing that makes Thea’s writing extraordinary.
Also, we got a revolver mention 👀 I SCREAMED. My babies!
I’m so excited for Frankie’s story, I’m a Logan girlie at heart but a Frankie girlie in my soul.
Oh my the way I’ve been waiting so much to get more Logan and Abi. I fell in love with them in Swipe Right and Thea made me a total sl*t for Logan, this book could be an infinite page read and I would still want more lol 🫠
Thea CRUSHED this!! It’s such a funny and sweet read. It’s full of banter, it’s flirty. Their chemistry can really be touched. When you google ”soulmates”, they better be the first that pops up because THATS SO REAL! How they can understand each other without a single world, their support and Logan caring for Abi like she’s the answer to all his questions is all I can think about (which is very much true) 😭 He’s so perfect, the hottest nerd, sweet and has a mouth out of the ordinary at the same time I need the recipe 🤣
The road trip was so exciting to follow along! Them trying to not put their friendship at risk while feeling like they’re gonna pour over…OUF I was hanging on a thread. Abi is really that type of girl we all need in our lives. She’s so comforting and a total sweetheart, knows Logan’s need like the back of her hand and it made my heart go all gooey so many times! The roadtrip also added some more to Abi’s story, and it made me love and feel for her even more 🤍
💛 Roadtrip across Canada 💛 Friends to lovers 💛 Fake engagement 💛 Undiagnosed ADHD rep 💛 She calls him Sunshine 💛 He calls her Shortcake 💛 Spencer Reid vibes 💛 Age gap (10 years)
Thank you so much to the author for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
I’m in love with this series - I think it’s safe to say! From book one, I utterly adored the relationship between Logan Flynn and Abi King, I needed more. So when the opportunity to read their book came up, I HAD to jump at this chance.
I’m so glad I did!
Abi and Logan are so adorable together. Their chemistry bounces off the pages so well and the author wrote their back and forth banter so so well. I was so invested in their relationship that I had to just keep reading. They balanced each other out so so well.
Logan is the epitome of book boyfriend of the golden retriever kind. His character was written so well and I just fell in love with him.
If you love fake dating, work romance, friends to lovers and a golden retriever boyfriend - this is for you! Thea Lawrence hasn’t disappointed - her writing is just amazing!!
I’m so excited for the next book - I’m hoping it’s Frankie 🙈
💛 Age gap 💛 Best friends to lovers 💛 Forced proximity 💛 Canadian road trip 💛 Fake engagement 💛 Ultimate nerd MMC 💛 It’s always been you 💛 Small town
Crushing It was an absolute fricking delight to read. Think heart, heat, and a whole lot of feels. This second installment in the Emerald Bay series delivers a perfect mix of humour, heartache, and sizzling romance that sticks with you long after the last page.
Logan & Abi are a mess in the most lovable way. Their complicated history and personal struggles give their relationship real depth, and Logan’s undiagnosed ADHD is portrayed with such nuance that it adds a layer of authenticity rarely seen in romance. The supporting cast? Once again equally fantastic. Emerald Bay very much feels like coming home at this point.
When it comes to the romance, Thea once again doesn’t hold back. It’s tender, passionate, and just the right amount of spicy. The steamy scenes aren’t just there for show, they’re emotionally charged and genuinely meaningful. Plus, the inclusion of diverse kinks and personal preferences adds a refreshing touch of realism and inclusivity which we all absolutely love to see from any author.
In short, Crushing It is a must-read. Whether you’re here for the swoony romance, the laugh-out-loud moments, or the emotional gut punches, this book delivers. Get ready to lose a few hours (or an entire weekend) to Logan, Abi, and the charm of Emerald Bay……you won’t regret it.
“you’re my compass, abi. whenever anything goes wrong, you’re the first person i go to; when i wake up in the morning, you’re the first person i think about. i’d do anything for you.”
how freaking cute was this? abi and logan are perfect for each other!
from the get go, both of them were obsessed with each other yet neither wanted to admit it just yet. logan kept pushing his feelings away, and abi kept denying her feelings. the moment they got together for the first time, i internally cheered and threw a party (balloons, confetti, and everything). they both describe each other in a way that feels poetic, and you can feel how much they love and adore each other through the words on the page.
their temporary engagement ring was a ring pop and i thought that was the cutest thing ever. however, logan did the absolute most and bought a real engagement ring for abi, and that chapter made me swoon. she liked it and wanted it, so he got it for her because it reminded her of the one her grandma had? love.
logan is the definition of “gentleman in the streets, freak in the sheets” and i was SO there for it. his praise game and dirty talk? absolutely insane, i swear. the last chapter had a few “my wife” moments, and i’m a sucker for those. i loved how logan was head over heels for abi and gushed over her whenever he could.
thank you so much to the author and luna literary management for the e-arc! 🌙
♥︎ road trip ♥︎ friends to lovers ♥︎ fake engagement ♥︎ “it’s always been you” ♥︎ right person, wrong time
If you want a spicy yet uplifting romance, "Crushing It" should be moved to the top of your 'To Be Read' List. And make sure to get yourself some Ring Pops to go along with it.
It's all you can ask for in a spicy romance book. The characters are completely relatable (felt like I was reading about my own life at some points) and well developed. The overall story is well written - you're on the emotional road trip along with Logan & Abi and you are just left with such an overall feeling of happiness when it's over.
Crushing It is a fun, sweet, quite touching, and veeeery spicy workplace forbidden romance. I love that the MMC is the sunshine and hopeless romantic of the couple while the FMC is more cynical and darker. I love the unconditional way Logan and Abi complete, respect, support, and understand each other! I'm telling you...the fun, deep, heartwarming, and touching friendship Logan and Abi share and the way it steadily turns into love is the MAIN GOAL! And what about the spice? Well, if you've read any book by Thea Lawrence you know how good she is at writing spicy scenes. And the ones in Crushing It are no exception! My oh my, I'm feral for a sweet nerd who becomes an animal in the bedroom, and Logan is the definition of it!
This is another comfort book of mine. It’s for comfy days in bed, drinking tea and never getting bored. I loved how fleshed out the characters were, and I loved Abi and Logan with all my heart. I just wanted to be friends with them so bad throughout the whole book. Theas characters are so unique and the way she writes spice is on another level. I’ll never skip one of her books, especially not after this one. 100% in love with this universe she created.
This is my first book by Thea Lawrence, and I devoured it! Abi and Logan gave me all the happy feelings, and I felt lucky to be reading their story.
There are so many things that I loved: 🌟 Great writing through the book. I was never bored or wondering 'what the', with odd wording or quick jumping around. 🌟 Canada-based story. From a northern Saskatchewan girl, the stories from their Saskatoon adventures had me cackling at the accuracy of SK living! 🌟 Older-ish main characters. I'm nearly 40, and having Abi in her late 20s, and Logan late 30s was a nice change from 19 or 21 year old characters. 🌟 The story itself grabbed my attention from page one. My own minor was sociology, and I'm pursuing a masters, so the education aspect of the story was perfect for a reader like me.
Needless to say, I will be reading more of Thea's books!
Oh my gosh, what a phenomenal read! Abi & Logan both made me both laugh & tear up. Thoroughly enjoyed every part of this book and I can’t wait to read it again!
Thank you for letting me be one of your ARC readers!
Friends to lovers can often feel a bit forced but that was DEFINITELY NOT the case with this gem!
These are the kind of friends where there has always been 'something' between them but their friendship is so natural and their circumstances have dictated that they haven't actively explored their romantic connection - until now!
I liked Abi, the FMC, but I must admit it was Logan (MMC) who stole the show for me. Unlike any other MMC I've read before. Unapologetically nerdy. A bit of a 'big kid' but an even bigger heart. A loving son and brother. Obsessed with his best friend/girl. AND a dirty talker!!! I mean, c'mon!
ARC Review - thank you Thea Lawrence and Luna Literacy for the opportunity to review this novel.
Tropes: 🚙 friends to lovers 📚 road trip 🚙 dual timeline and POV 📚 fake engagement 🚙 small town 📚 ADHD rep
Spice: 🌶️🌶️ Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Logan and Abi met, hooked up, and then went their separate ways…or so they thought? Abi ends up getting a job at the same University Logan teaches at, so even though they like each other they decide to be friends to protect their careers. They are both such wonderfully written characters, their chemistry is undeniable, and there is something so enjoyable about a couple who is so obviously in love and finally succumbing to fate.
What does two friends who have the hots for each other plus a road trip equal? Lots of opportunities to f around and find out. Forced proximity, fake engagement, secretly in love the whole time- this is just a Perfect Romance (tm).
This was one of my most anticipated reads, and I’m honestly so bummed it didn’t hit like I thought it would. Logan is clearly based on Spencer Reid (aka the love of my alternative life), so of course I devoured that part — but overall, the story just fell flat for me. I loved the first book so much more. This time around, I felt like I was skimming through most of it, just waiting for something to actually happen. Logan and Abi have amazing chemistry, but it didn’t quite come through the way it could have. It had so much potential — I just wish the writing matched the vibe.

I want everyone in the world to read this book, because it is incredible. It's real, and its beautiful, and I never wanted it to end.
This is my first read by this author and I realised that it's also the second book in The Emerald Bay series.
There are more than a few mentions of the characters and events from the first book, Swipe Right, so if you're bothered by this, I'd definitely say that you should read these books in order.
I, however, went into this blind and was more than invested before I'd even finished the first chapter! So carried on reading and have to admit that I also raced out to grab book 1 too as I just have to read Roman and Iggy's story asap!
This is a pretty chunky book for a romance - I have to admit wondering how this would read being over 500+ pages - it's the longest I've read so far - and I was scared!
But if you're usually put off by longer books, please don't be!
This read flew by in no time and I was completely hooked from start to finish.
There was so much going on and this was such a fun read and I just ate up every second!
I adored our main characters, Abi and Logan.
Both were so relatable and the more their personalities and backgrounds were revealed, the more I fell in love with them and their friendship.
Their chemistry and connection was so clear from the start but their situation meant that a friendship was all that they could risk - but when Abi gets an invite to her school reunion, Logan is the obvious choice to attend as her fake fiance.
I loved that we really got to see Logan and Abi in their natural habitat for a while, before the trip takes over.
It really meant that we got to know all about their lives as friends and colleagues first.
We also got a glimpse at some of the "almost" moments the pair had had and this built up that sexual tension that we knew was going to brew!
This also gave us an opportunity to bond with the other characters - all of whom I loved too - and who I assume, we'll be getting to know better in (past and) future books in the series.
The road trip was totally hilarious. I loved every second - all the fun, the antics and the increasing level of tension and eventually spice that ensued!
But this was equally balanced out with some really heartfelt moments as we see Abi and Logan's fears and insecurities too.
The reunion was actually the tiniest part of the whole story, which shocked me a little. I'd expected much more significance from that and the ex-fiance - but it actually was very fitting, proving that some of the things that feel like they take over your whole attitude to life, often are the things that, if we let them go, would be the most insignificant. These things can hold you back and stop you making the most of your life now.
This was such an easy read and I was totally immersed throughout.
I loved the writing style and the attention to detail for the settings and character development.
I actually want to go live there with them all!
Totally obsessed with this series and can't wait to dive back in time for book 1 - I'm also really excited to see who will feature in the next book.....maybe Frankie?
** Thank you so much to Luna Literary Management for the ARC **
This is probably going to be a really weird review because I am usually more comfortable with books that I enjoy but not love when writing reviews. The review for “Swipe right” was already really hard on me because I really liked the book and “Crushing it” is no different. My issue always lies in explaining why I love these books and while “Swipe right” had a bondage element that made it really easy for me to connect, I believe my reasons to enjoy “Crushing it” were a lot different, but they all had a motive: Logan Flynn!
Logan Flynn is book boyfriend/daddy material! He is a huge nerd who has just the right amount of possessiveness and dirty talk that gets a woman weak on her knees. He’s observant, and he’s not afraid to get a black eye defending his woman even though he’s clearly not made to be a guy who fights. Logan and Abi’s relationship is quite simple, but the fact that they want to keep it professional makes it all so much more fun. We can see right from the beginning that Logan only has eyes for Abi, even though he denies it and Abi wants to keep things professional, even though she totally has the hots for him.
Abi’s return to Canada to see her old life made my heart melt. She clearly believes she’s nowhere near her life where she should be, blinded because she got a phd and Logan Flynn only has eyes for her. She measures her life success clearly by what society thinks and what other people are going through and it’s heartbreaking to watch such a stunning woman feeling like she’s not enough just because other people are living “ordinary” lives. Abi is a spitfire and firecracker like Logan calls her, but we can see that she also wanted something else in life and with Logan she’ll be able to get that because he brings out the best in her.
I love that Thea Lawrence incorporates academics into her books, I know most people read this for the smut and the smut is pretty amazing but I also enjoy that it is more than that. These people are actually smart and we can see that. Thea shows us them being human, one day they’re teaching a class, the other they’re being goofballs. I also enjoy that these characters feel like people and not just characters among a sea of tropes. For now, I’m positive I will eat just whatever Thea Lawrence throws at us because after Roman being such a cutie and Logan being so hot… I mean come on so not a fair, a tattooed professor who talks dirty and reads romance novel, where the hell can I find this guy?
“Crushing it” is a lovely journey through a friendship that was always meant to be something more. It’s about someone finally admitting their feelings and letting go of unrealistic expectations we create for ourselves. It’s fun, deep and spice in all the right places.
Crushing It by Thea Lawrence is everything I want in a romance and then some. This book straight up took my heart, gave it a big warm hug, made me laugh, cry (like, real tears), and left me with that soul satisfied feeling I’m always chasing when I pick up a love story.
Let’s start with Logan Flynn. My GOD. He is down bad in the most adorable, infuriating, "sir, just SAY IT" kind of way. He’s that sunshine professor with deep emotional wounds, a heart of gold, and an obsessive love for his best friend that he tries (and fails) to hide. Logan had me in my feels; the grief, the ADHD rep, the way he cares for Abi even when he’s hurting? I just want to wrap him in a blanket and protect him forever.
And Abi? I saw so much of myself in her that it kind of scared me. That impostor syndrome? The “I should be further in life” spiral? The idea that love is something other people get but not you? Yeah, hi, this book read me to filth and comforted me all at once. She’s strong, brilliant, so funny, and despite how much she doubts it, she is completely lovable.
Thea has this magical way of writing grief, mental health, friendship, and love in a way that hits. It’s so soft and light and fun (fake engagement! road trip! one bed!) while also digging deep into what it means to feel too much and think you’re not enough. That quote—“Show me how good it gets”? It’s not just a line. It’s the whole dang vibe of the book. A love letter to the ones who always felt a little different. A reminder that you do deserve the life and love you dream about.
Also, let’s talk about how this book is just HOT in the best way. Like, smart and emotional spice? Yes please. The chemistry between Logan and Abi is off the charts, and every kiss, every touch, every look was loaded with so much history and longing, I could feel it.
💛 Best friends to lovers 💛 Fake engagement 💛 Canadian road trip (hello bucket list vibes) 💛 Small town feels 💛 Ultimate nerd boy MMC 💛 Age gap (but like, barely and done SO well) 💛 Neurodivergent rep that feels real and honest 💛 “It’s always been you” ENERGY
Crushing It crushed me, and I loved every second. If you’ve ever felt not enough, if you’ve ever wanted someone to choose you without hesitation, or if you’re just a sucker for beautifully messy characters figuring it out together, then this book is for you.
Run, don’t walk. Emerald Bay is waiting. 💛

Show Me How Good it Gets!
Crushing It was everything I hoped for & more!
Logan & Abi had a chance encounter with a spilled beverage and a night of fun years ago but agreed to go their separate ways without exchanging phone number or even last names. But as they say ~the universe finds a way~
When Abi gets a Post Doctorate position at Emerald Bay she accidentally recreates history when she spills a coffee on Logan the day she starts her new position. Due to the fraternization policy in place at the university nothing can happen between the two of them and so they agree that becoming friends is the best way to proceed. Their friendship blossoms but Logan is forever comparing each date and attempt at a relationship to that one night with Abi and their connection. The friendship they develop is one for the books & it's made even better by the mutual pining and banter along the way!
Abi makes an error in judgement in which she tells her friends and mom a few lies about her life which leads to the road trip across Canada & their fake relationship. Everything about their trip was so much fun to read! I loved all the different shenanigans they got into along the way to her hometown!
Seeing the story from both sides. Logan & Abi were such fun main characters & while their jobs are not going to be relatable to most their personalities will be. Getting to see the wild trains of thought that bounced through Logan's ADHD brain & both Abi and Logan's anxiety were extremely relatable to me personally!
There were so many things I loved about this story and I could probably keep going for a very long time.
I highly recommend your grab up this story, it's beyond worth the read and I look forward to circling back around to the first part of the Emerald Bay series.
“What’s life even worth if she hasn’t always been mine?”
“I have so many imagined futures, but the only one I want is with her. Except the one where I’m Batman, it’s all me in that universe, baby.”
“Some people are so ingrained in our souls that it feels like they’ve just always been there.”
“My girl. I’d do anything for him to call me that again. And again and again.”
“I want this forever. I want her forever.”
“You’ve been mine this whole time, you just didn’t know it yet.”
“In a single heartbeat, I traded my best friend for the love of my life. I have him. Fully, completely.”
Back for book 2 in the Emerald Bay series! I read book 1 “Swipe Right” last year and was blown away by the carefully researched contents of the book specifically within the BDSM community. It opened my eyes and my mind to a whole new world that was handled with a lot of respect and care and from that moment I knew I’d be a die hard fan for Thea Lawrence. Also there is a little Easter egg in book 1 that I was hoping would be the basis of book 2 and I was so pleasantly titillated by the FMC and the MC of this story!
Anyway zero notes ! A favourite read of the year thus far! Did I harass the author during book 1, yes. Did I further harass her with book 2? Also yes. Will I continue on this with the third book. Absotootley!

Crushing It is a delightful and heartwarming friends-to-lovers romance set in the academic world, where the chemistry between two professors is undeniable. The book tells the story of Abigail King, a postdoctoral researcher who's content with her life—until she receives an unexpected invitation to her school reunion from none other than her ex's now wife. The reunion is the last place she wants to be, but when her ex-texts her, all she wants is to show him that she's doing better than ever. Only problem? Her job is uncertain, and her fiancé doesn't even exist... yet.
Logan Flynn, her best friend and a fellow professor, who is nothing short of a ray of sunshine in her life. When she confides in him, he agrees to step in as her fake fiancé for the reunion, turning the trip into an adventurous road trip to Canada. The whole situation is both hilarious and heartwarming, as the two navigate their fake relationship with undeniable chemistry.
What I loved most about this book is the way the romance unfolds. Abi and Logan have been friends for years because of their hookup few years ago and a not so hookup so the chemistry is already there and so is the bond which is deep, which makes their transition into lovers feel natural and sweet. The humour in the story is spot-on—there are so many funny moments that had me laughing out loud. But don’t let that fool you; this book is also packed with sizzling, spicy moments that will leave you blushing.
The way the author blends sweetness with spice is perfect. There’s just the right balance of light-hearted moments and steam, making Crushing It a feel-good, fun, and spicy read. I loved watching these two grow from best friends into something more, and the road trip aspect gave the book a great sense of adventure.
Infinity ⭐ First off i would like to thank for Thea & Luna the opportunity to read & review this gifted E-Arc.
Abi & Logan Oh my gosh! I absolutely adore these two so freaking much. I absolutely freaking love how these two build a friendship and never let what happened effect it and i loved how they both wanted each other but also never knew what to do and how to also keep their jobs. I absolutely loved how Abi wasn't afraid to be her self and went after what she wanted and without hesitation. I honestly just loved everything about her from the jump. Logan is so 🥰🥰 (insert me swooning) i absolutely love this man so much. He isn't afraid to be his true self with anyone and the way he handles his emotions and keeps going in life even when it was hard and the way he fights just to be understood. I loved how Abi & Logan are comfortable with each other and never judge, i love that no matter what they got each others back. These two are the definition of soul mates.
5/5 Recommend this book. Let me start by saying THEA KILLED IT WITH THIS BOOK!! My nerdy little heart was so happy to feel seen and understood in so many ways. I absolutely loved everything about this book and can't wait for the rest of the books in this series. Go read it but also check the trigger warning because it does deal with some serious hard topics and she handle it with so much care and sensitivity.
I read a lot, I mean a lot of ARCs from Luna and this is honestly one of my favourites ever!!!
Abi and Logan’s friends to lovers journey is filled with hidden (and not so hidden! yearning) from the off, and boy is the chemistry off the charts. From a steamy, incredible ONS years ago, Logan and Abi end up working together (where work place relationships are a strict no-no!) and form a fierce and loyal friendship, but one that is filled with (seemingly) unrequited feelings on both parts.
When Abi is invited to her 10 year high school reunion, which her scumbag ex and high school bully are hosting, together (!), Abi panics and RSVP’s she’ll attend, with her fiancé as a plus one! Only problem is - Abi isn’t engaged, much less dating anyone. BFF Logan swoops in to save the day, and the two embark on a cross Canadian road trip to the reunion, where sparks and jealousy fly daily.
I adored the chemistry, longing and spice between Abi and Logan and it’s already one of my favourite books read all year! If you like friends to romance, one bed, yearning, spicy books, look no further than Thea’s Crushing It!
*ARC reader honest review*
Thanks to Thea Lawrence and Luna Literary for this ARC opportunity!
ARC REVIEW Logan and Abi. Sunshine and Shortcake. Their story was equal parts feral and sweet and I loved every second of it. By the end of Crushing It, I was smiling so hard. Logan and Abi’s HEA is everything I could have wanted out of their love story. Crushing It is book two in The Emerald Bay Series. I loved how Crushing It delved more into Logan’s grief over losing his father to brain cancer and the complicated feelings over his father choosing the medically assisted death route. As the reader, we had the chance to see how his grief changed the trajectory of Logan’s life. It was also sweet to get more insight on the relationship between Logan and his dad and why his dad’s death affected him so much. This story also touched on topics of self worth, insecurities, and imposter syndrome, which is a lot of the issues that Abi was struggling with throughout the book and how those struggles affected her life choices.
Crushing It honestly had so much range. Like don’t get me started on the man the is Logan Flynn. He truly was Dr. Logan Flynn in the streets and yes, Logan Flynn, sir, in the sheets. The way this man could switch and turn up the spice will have you panting and feral for more. Thea Lawrence has truly written some top tier spice! I loved Logan and Abi’s story so much and I loved Crushing It! Thank you Thea and Luna for the eARC!
