My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m pissed. I’m confused. And I’m scared. I’d be an idiot if I wasn’t scared when demons suddenly made a move and someone I love almost died. I’m pissed they did it, confused why now… But I’m also pissed that no one seems to hear me that Cluym messed up and they’re upset with me instead. Classic. I knew life as the future ruler of a world would never be easy, but constantly living where I’m criticized for everything and people don’t always listen to me is difficult. And sometimes I only have myself to blame for not fully committing to the role. But what idiot would commit to that when it isn’t going well? It was going better but… Yeah, nothing is easy. Plus, given the state of things in my personal life and the fact I’m constantly juggling the feelings of five men, I think it’s a bloody miracle that I’m not normally found at a bar completely sauced. Or in jail getting into trouble. Eating my feelings when I’m a fairy is about the healthiest way for me to handle my life. Especially now that my powers are expanding again and I’m worried I’ll finally lose my mind this time.
Artemis University is an ongoing, hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.
*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
Maybe I just expect to much but by book 20 I guess I just hoped for more or something. Definitely not 50% of the book being the same relationship crap that has happened in the last 17 books all she needs is 2 more guys she can kick all the time and the saying can change from same crap different day to same crap different guy. The only growing I see at all is from 4 out of 5 men and the sad thing is they are trying to fix themselves for someone who seems to have no respect for them.
To me Tams has seriously done a 180 from Book 1 and not in a good way. She seems to like being a victim cause when ever someone calls her out they manage to trigger something and everyone caters to her again because she was a victim in the past bla bla bla. If the main person isn't going to grow in the book I had hope the story line would yes somethings were closed but hell I'm still waiting for answers to question from like like book 3.
I love most of Erin's work, and I know this might sound harsh to alot but 6 books can't come soon enough for me
After 20 books I finally gave up! It's always the same dramas over and over. When Tamsin finally forgave one of her mate, there was a fight with another one. She kept monologuing the same arguments, opinions, etc. It's annoying! The author should stop writing too long series because at one point you didn't bring anything new in the story🤨😕
I’m stopping at 55% on this book…probably till this series is done
Spoilers below
I can’t do this anymore. This series has been dragging on for a while but I just had to stop because are WE really acting like this series set us up for Darby breaking up with Tamsin. I don’t know if it will or will not happen but we are being set up with really bad writing and story telling that Tamsin knew from the beginning he would eventually leave her. What?.. It really seems like this character is aware of how ridiculous these relationships are but the author man I don’t want to saying anything too crazy, but it is hard.
This book was not good. I have been pushing through this whole time. Past the awful editing and sometimes writing because this author really makes amazing worlds. They are so creative and could be soooo danged good.
The speech patterns are still annoying and the drama is never ending.
Also can we stop starting books in the middle of a scene. I have no idea what was even happening in the beginning.
I took a break for a few books before and I think I might come back later and read the rest when it’s done. But for now I absolutely can not push past the awfulness any more.
I feel like the books are just rehashing issues that came up in other books. I like to see the resolution to previous issues but it used to be that there was a big thing going on in each book. Now there’s no big event, just the FMC being petty and harsh and a bit childish. Along with everyone kissing her ass instead of her being a grown woman and talking about what she needs/wants/hates etc.
She hates when attention is on her but when one of her plethora of mates focuses on his own life that is supposed to help build their lives together in the future (starting law school at a prestigious university) she wines like a little high school girl that isn’t being paid attention to constantly.
A problem I have had with the past couple/few books is that I have no idea what’s going on anymore, the books are not memorable at all. Whenever the characters are taking care of some issue from a previous book it is very hard to remember what in the world they are talking about. With the exception of Mason and Juan, that is something that sticks with you through the series.
For example, I don’t remember anything to do with the character named Angel and then being imprisoned.
The books used to be an exciting adventure that you could clearly picture in your mind in great detail, now it is just a lot of dialogue and rehashing. Hard to keep track of what drama was with which fairy or even their purpose in the story anymore. While I appreciate the list at the beginning of the book it seems kind of ridiculous to have to reference it for characters that are not exactly mains but very involved.
The FMC has had so many issues with so many people and been mad at them for so many reasons you can’t keep track of what the last reason was and why she is still holding onto the negativity in the next book.
This is book 20 of this series and I still have so many questions. Tamsin is feeling 50/50 she doesn’t know everything but her magic does help her. I never thought Darby would be a problem, but he is. I know in my heart that everything will work out, but how much more does Tams have to go through?
When will it be over? This has been the most drawn out series I have ever read! The potential it had died 11 books ago. Same thing every single book. You are just repeating it. Just let fairie consume her and be done with it. It's obvious you've lost all steam for this series.
No character development from book to book. No story development from book to book. This series had so much promise in the beginning… I fell in love not only with FMC but also secondary characters. I don’t love anyone anymore, in book 20 there should more relationship resolution and the harem should be working together as a group to support the FMC. It’s all the same things over and over. Tamsin pisses off the baddies, they come after her, the fairies don’t listen, her men are nowhere and can’t be counted on… so she takes the bad guys down all by herself and whines and complains as she is doing it.
Erin is such an amazing author I feel so lucky that I stumbled upon her books one day. Never thought I’d be 20 book into a series and wanting to re read it again and again. I love Artemis and I love what you’ve done with the story!!!! Thank you for continuing to write it!!! But please don’t take poor Darby!!!!! 😭😭😭😭 I feel weird about the addition of his sister in the last book or so SPOILER AHEAD
I really truly hope that it’s going to be tams figuring out the reason why Darby is going to leave her and her blowing it up on the day of the wedding/mating. Save Darby live happily ever after.
I am so happy with many of the choices made in this book. I felt like healthy progress was actually made in so many areas and in so many relationships. I was relieved that she didn’t fall into her normal routine of yelling or ranting about different plights. Real communication was occurring and some answers were found. Knowing this series is coming towards its end, I am hopeful that this progress she is making won’t be disrupted by some out of character forced drama just to create conflict at the end. I am happy with this book and hopeful for what comes next even if a little worried about the Darby relationship still.
This series is the only series/books that I preorder… only because it comes in a whole hour before the actual release day. I barley sleep because all I want to do is read these books! This one was just as fantastic as all the others. I love it!
Please note the following review encompasses books 20 through 26 of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be one final review of my reading experience throughout all 26 books.
As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.
Ok, it's been 19 books, and I haven't really touched on the totally delicious guys in this series. Mostly, because I wasn't sure who was staying and who was going. Because believe you me, Tamsin has her choice of treats. But I want to talk boys for a bit.
Let's start with our dragon. Hudson is a dragon prince, and his dragon, River, is as sweet as pie. Both love Tamsin wholeheartedly, but Hudson needs to learn when and how to pull his head out of that place the sun doesn't shine. He makes more than his fair share of mistakes, but unlike real life, there is almost always a redemption opportunity. I was thrilled he took it.
Next, there's the sexy warlock professor, Julian Craftsman. He is quite literally too smart for his own good. I was ready to throw the towel in and look for a replacement, but, like Hudson, he pulled off a miracle to get the girl. As much as this man frustrated me, he still managed to make me swoon. This man is Fine with a capital F, and the support he ends up providing for Tamsin would not have worked so well for anyone else.
This is the one y'all are looking forward to. Our geeky vampire tutor turned attorney. Most notably, he is the only one of Tamsin's mates that she purposely chose. Everyone else is a fated mate, but she loved Darby enough to tell Fate and the gods to F off. Darby is far from perfect, but he is the normal in her world that's spinning wildly out of control, and let's face it, it's impossible to not find him loveable. He brings a lot of baggage though, and it is incredible to watch him work through it all.
Lucca's relationship started with a ... lie of omission? Not a purposeful misrepresentation, but it still set their relationship back. Truthfully, I didn't expect him to make the final cut, but Lucca worked his butt off to fix his mistakes, to learn and grow from them, and unlike the rest, he doesn't make the same mistake twice. And Harry, his bear, is just too adorable.
And this leaves us with Neldor Donovan, Prince of Dark Fairies, aka Prince of Darkness. When first introduced to Neldor, I knew he was going to be vital to the plot, but I wanted him to die in a fire regardless. He was just flat out mean to Tamsin, but as the story progressed, his character made subtle changes to his attitude and behavior, and I realized that I like the guy. For all of his faults, he ends up adoring Tamsin, and more than any of the other relationships, this one left me with warm fuzzies.
Expect my final review of the overall, full series in a few days.
However, as always, Iwant to leave a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find racism, classism, prejudice and past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are also forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, intimate partner abuse, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Characters have ongoing mental health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, fear of abandonment, grief & loss, self-worth issues, and suicidal ideation. Please know your limits and read responsibly.
I'm very glad to see forward movement and some resolution of crap that's hanging over all of them. Mason comes to mind, and Dalyor ghosting Tamsin as her trainer without talking to her. Abandonment issues are never fun to deal with, and we all have some of one type or another. The "why" of the demon attack is just guesswork at this point, but Tamsin's probably correct. And that is a whole new can of worms opened up. Many other families were involved in (redacted) * investigated; the vampire families who were involved with brutalizing women are some, but I'd bet on (redacted) * being neck deep, too. Tamsin needs to confront Darby about what is going on, no matter how painful it is. And let him know the consequences of his behavior, especially since he's being tricked into thinking it is better for her. It may or may not help, but it must be done. Especially as it isn't part of her vision. I tried not to give away any important plot points but to give hints to entice readers. And it really is a book worth reading. I am pleased with the balance of A) past being dealt with, even if it only settles a part of the issue, B) new, interesting developments, and C) hints of more to come. Good job, Ms. Flynn!
9 out of 10 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 * I took out those phrases because it gave away too much of the story. Read it yourself, I bet you will agree once you find out. PS: it is near the end of this book, probably 89% or thereabouts. Give or take a few percentage points.
Another amazing book for the series. I love seeing the progress but I'm torn in tamsins love life. I am CRUSHED there are SO many problems with Darby but I am definitely on pins and needles to see how that plays out and if we ever get to see all the guys on good footing with tams at the same time. I feel like Julian and Hudson are on the right track with their relationship with tamsins and it will stay that way. I think Lucca has hope. But I'm very up and in the air about my/ our favorite prince of darkness..... their chemistry seems unreal and amazing but can h trust become as strong as they would need it to? Can they get over and/or ignore ignorant people already keeping them apart? I don't have the same strength in faith for this relationship as I do for tamsins and luccas relationship. Can there be more mates? Wheres the underground wolf shifter because ; he seemed like he might be in trouble after book 20. I have so many more questions but I have no doubt they will be answers in time. This series has been in my top favorites since it first came out. And while I die a little inside every time I have to wait for one it is so totally worth it even though I tend to read them in less then a day and then start from beginning all over agian. So thank you our wonderful Erin R Flynn for all the work you do. Aaaaaa++++++ all the way! Can't wait to see what happens next and I will prob die when it ends but it's so worth it!!!
Honestly I fell hard and fast for Tamsin and her guys from the start but really started to lose hope for these books when they became excessively repetitive and hypocritical… Tamsin is supposed to be this just and fair leader but oftentimes is nothing more than a bully condemning other bullies while the author goes in circles with the same plot but different scenarios.
If I’m so annoyed why do I keep coming back you ask? Honestly who knows anymore. I’m now 20 books in so I feel far too dedicated to drop the story entirely.
With that said… I genuinely felt like book 20 (far too many) made actual progress within the plot. I believe there aren’t too many books left so it’s about time we progress forward with Tamsin’s journey. However there were still so many aspects of immaturity that at this point I wonder if they come directly from the author? Tamsin’s personality never matches with these random bouts of child like behavior (yes I understand she has a ton of childhood trauma that could result in this) but at the same time it feels so forced. I lost track of the amount of times the word “tummy” was used in reference to her getting to eat food and how happy it made her tummy….
At the end of the day I’m happy to feel as though we are getting somewhere in the story but still weary moving forward given all the issues this story + writing style has presented in the past. I
I know the title of this book is ominous but it gave me hope. I've been obsessed with these books for a long time and I've followed along and diligently felt joy and betrayal and love and anger at everything that's happened to this world but this isbook lets me know that things will turn out alright. Don't be mistaken that there will be a happy ending but that there will be satisfaction at the end of this series. This book felt different to the others and I think it's because the story and characters and moments are maturing and it's been almost 5 years in the timeline since book 1. This book picks up a short time after the end of book 19 and Tamsin is trying to make sense of someone else's decisions. In fact the whole book is Tamsin accepting and pivoting other people's decisions and the ripples that they make. Highlights for me include beginning to accept Neldor's love, saving the orphans, flying, making up with 2 of her mates and the letter. Overall this book was brilliant and I loved every word.
I love this series. The only issue I have is the repetition of her breaking up with her mate if he gets lost in work or schooling she breaks up with them. She's more powerful and has a bigger support system than they do and they kind of feel all alone cuz two of them basically are. So please stop writing that she automatically breaks up with them because they didn't make enough time for her because of school or work. I understand she makes the extra effort And she has abandonment issues but I'm a girl and I can see she's overreacting and it's getting a quite tedious. She runs a whole world and come multitask and communicate effectively but she never communicates with her mates and waits for them to get the hint and if they don't get the hint she breaks up with them. This is a very well written book and I still give it a five star but this is the only flaw I see and it's starting to get annoying. That being said wonderful series wonderful book can't wait for the next.
I have read this entire series and I had to say I’m a little disappointed that the main character is not showing any signs of actually advancement and becoming the adult. She is supposed to. There’s no character development with her at all, and all she can do is put down and be disappointed in the people in her life it seems. I just wish that the main character was more developed and showed more signs of maturity and showed that she actually has a heart of forgiveness. Not that she’s just so hung up on a mistake that somebody in her life that she cares about makes. If the main character can’t show forgiveness and show growth that I’m not sure I want to keep reading this series. It’s kind of flatlining for me at this point. I’m going to read the next book in the series and give it another shot but but I think after that I’m gonna call it quits if I don’t see any improvement
10 out of 10 ——-Captivating, installment 20 of AU was fantastic.
Layering Resentment is book 20 in the best Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance series I have read. The main character’s story lines feel so real, tying in everyday problems set in a wonderful world I can only wish to be apart of. As I have read and re-read every book in this series multiple times I continue to be captivated by the depth of each and ever character. Erin Flynn created not only a fantastic world, but characters that you feel you could know and can relate to. I cannot say enough good things about this series and I highly highly recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy books, reverse harems, or stories that are complex and layered making the book world feel real.
Even though this book came out today, I already cannot wait for the next!!!
I loved it!!! I barely got any sleep because I was up reading it till 5am! I would have stayed up later to finish it all in one sitting butI fell asleep with my kindle. ☹️ Seeing Tams relationships grow with some of her mates and dissolve with others is a slow move that makes it feel more real. I did not feel like I saw enough Hudson or Lucca - but I always want to read more about Neldor. I am not a Darby fan, wtf 🤬🤯🤬🤯 is he to tell her mates its his bedroom??? Like WTF!! I HOPE SHE DROPS HIS ASS!! I Know some might not agree but like WTH 👁️👄👁️ does he think he is, when he knew her abandonment issues and still had his he as d up his ass... Sorry I just don't like him.... DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK 📕DEFINITELY recommend this series 📚
I like this series. But Tamsin takes on too many problems. The books are a roller coaster with problems and more problems and not enough of the romance and mysteries to solve. Then the author blew up the relationship between her and her mates, especially Darby who should have been her one constant! Tamsin’s relationship with Darby, Hudson and Julian is what kept it interesting. As I said, I like the series but some parts are too much because of the many balls the character has in the air and the sense of entitlement. She and Darby agreed about law school. Realistically law school is hard! The BS she put these men through is crazy. Why agree and then sabotage the relationship when he is doing what she wanted. I’m with this series to the end cause I can’t wait to see what happens.
At this point in my reading, I'm not huge fan of anyone in this series except Lageos and Neldor. Tamson, Darby, the hobglobins, the council members are all super sensitive. Tam cries in every single chapter. She comes off as wishy-washy, pitiful, pathetic at times, and petty. Lucca and Neldor are both actually my favorites. I get trauma. I do. But this chick should've healed completely before getting into these relationships. I also think she is sending Neldor mixed signals. I wish he'd walk away from her. I also think Dalyor and Luke should be her mates as well. I can't take much more of the crying and assuming everyone is gonna leave her and doesn't love her. It's really annoying.
Well, we're back to the pits. The miscommunication. The empty promises. The forgotten plans. The hypocrisies. The BOYS. Also, suuuuuper kind way of dealing with complex mental health and personality disorders 👏👏👏. It's on the same level as Split, which is insane! Vampy boy needs to bugger off and stop whining about the consequences of his actions. Simpy bear needs to stand up for himself. Splinter-ball dragon needs to start going to therapy daily. Magic dude can honestly chill, he was pretty reasonable throughout this book. Fairy guy can GO HOME, stop doing shady shit for a change. In summary, the previous book's first half was a fluke. We're back to the norm, now.
I gave this book five stars because it was a great next step in the life of Tamsin. I loved getting to see some characters we haven't seen in awhile. And I felt like several characters were growing and maturing. As always I am excited for the next one but am so very pleased with all that the author provides. This book included a characters list with was amazing for reference (even if you do a reread of the series first).
RH. Explicit scenes, language, references to past abuse, and violence. MF or MFM only in this book.
My heart goes out to Tamsin, she’s always struggling with her powers and the moment she’s even close to figuring them out. Bam another power jump that has her all twisted up again.
I’m so excited that some of her guys are being the support system they should be and that they are communicating when they need her support as well.
Except the ONE idiot which I hate because he’s always been her support. Unfortunately for this instance distance did not make the heart grow fonder. Sigh 😔
I've loved loved loved this series!! I've re-read multiple times. I really want number 21 now. If you're just seeing this series now. I'd definitely recommend. Tasmin has so much hurt in her life, but is still is a kind and loving. As much as she is vengeful. This has fairies, dragons, vamps and shifers of different breeds. Its the ultimate fantasy. She has multiple love interests that aren't all sunshine and roses but also steamy. It's a must read. It will ha e triggers so read the blurb before dedicating yourself to this.
The twits in this storyline are keeping me guessing. Lots happening in Tams life especially with Darby. His actions are extremely worrying. Hopefully they can work through their issues. He is a particular favorite of mine. I like the twist that involved the revelation concerning Mason. I believe the addition of Juan in her crew will be interesting. That man needed a purpose and people to be in his corner. I can't wait for the next adventure as there are several loose threads needing to be addressed.
Darby, Darby, Darby, he’s going to loose it all!!!!! Ulgh I’m so angry at the men in Tams life. They are all idiots!!
WTH would Neldor ask Tams to come to his first flying lesson???? Are you freaking kidding me??? He didn’t even realize what asking her to do that would do to her!!
Men!!
Mason having DID was not something I ever expected, but I love that she healed some from leaning more.
Poor Juan, his family doesn’t even know how to be good to him. I’m glad Tams can be forgiving but she keeps forgiving those who constantly hurt her.
So I’ll fully admit, I almost didn’t read this book. The last several just rubbed me the wrong way and I haven’t been feeling the series lately, then when I saw the title, I thought “oh great…”. But I’m so glad I did! Truly. It was one of my favorites of the series and had probably my favorite moments in it! I truly hope the series continues along the same path of healthy growth and wrapping up both big and small questions/ideas, without getting stuck in the same toxic tornado as before.
I have religiously read all of these over and over. I am glad 21 out soon because this one of course left more questions than answers. Series are like that. I do take exception at the climate change passage. Weather is weather and we as humans can’t change it. If we believe scientists we are doomed as they are only after the money. The lies they tell are getting people killed and it needs people with common sense to stop the lies.
If there’s one thing I love most about this series it’s the sheer raw emotion that makes me root for Tamsin every step of excruciating journey. I know people dislike that this series’s story seems to be never ending heartache but for me it’s what makes it more realistic because those of us with scars of even the slightest similarity know how true it is that the battle is long even more painful for those with the brightest souls.
