WOWOWOW!!! It’s really heating up. In every way, there is something boiling and developing deeper and under the surface. The ending didn’t have a huge cliffhanger, however I now have to pace myself because volume 4 comes out this month and volume 5 comes out in April?! It’s pretty good so far and not exactly what I was expecting but in a good way actually. I thought the age gap would be weird but it’s not? Or at least it works for them. Not everyone can have that kind of relationship and if it wasn’t for their history together, I hardly doubt it would have turned into anything. I can’t wait for volume 3, but I gotta sloooooooowwww dooooooowwwn 🔥❤️✨

October 28, 2025I just don’t think this series is for me. I don’t like the central romance at all, and there’s nothing else going on with the plot outside of the love triangle. There’s also some serious dubcon in this one. If I do end up picking up the next volume it’ll only be for this Hanjoon storyline, since I’m actually interested in his character and his part of the romance. Even tho clearly things won’t work out for him, unfortunately.

I feel like everything suddenly became all happy and carefree, but I know there's way too many volumes after this for things to remain this smooth. I both don't like that they got together so quickly, but also don't think I could've taken their back and forth stretched out so much longer. I just don't know what to expect from this series, but I'm interested it.

Okay so the situationship might not be the worst person bc the real problem is Jaeha. There has to be some back story for the way he is but he really needs to pull himself together. Eunho is so much younger than him and still acting more mature.

I actually liked this volume more than volume 1, which is fascinating, given volume 2 of "The New Recruit", Zec's second work, is also my favorite in that series. I think part of it is that Zec's art improved just a smidgeon, so it looks a little prettier overall (still has some issues with foreheads sometimes, but generally it's very pretty, particularly the smut scenes). A bigger part is that we learn a lot more about Jaeha and see more of his ongoing dynamic with Eunho, and how a lot of it is tied into Jaeha growing up as a child of divorcees, and I love stories that deal well with that.
In this volume, we see a bit more of Jaeha's history with Hanjoon, and how it seems to have been a bit more physically abusive and not just Hanjoon ignoring Jaeha's wishes and deleting his call history (which is still bad on its own, but a different kind of bad). It's not clear who hit Jaeha in that one scene, but it's heavily implied to have been Hanjoon. Given Jaeha is shown to have a tendency to let his partner do as they please in the hopes of making them like him and stay with him, it makes sense Jaeha got with Hyesun - who was hypothetically better than Hanjoon - and also went back to Hanjoon at some point - because in the end he needed someone to be with him rather than being alone like his parents.
It's frustrating that Eunho's youth and inexperience make him unable to see Jaeha's struggles. He interprets Jaeha trying to be a better partner as pity, and takes it as a personal insult rather than desperation. Or perhaps a hint that Eunho should pay more attention to Jaeha than his own desires.
The emphasis on Jaeha's parents' divorce was really touching, and how Jaeha tries to skirt around it and his own divorce to avoid his pain. His feelings of being an outsider in his mother's life - someone who left him - hurt, even as he tries to pretend they're friendly and close on some level, at least for appearances. And her calling him insisting she's sorry are brutal: she wants to connect with him, and understands there was wrong done here, and not enough has been done to try to heal it. Ultimately, neither of them seem happy because neither of them are in a good place to help each other, or figure out how to reach out properly. His parents' broken marriage made him feel like his was inevitable, and any relationship he has in future will inevitably end, too. It makes sense he'd cling to Hanjoon: Jaeha already believes he isn't capable of having good relationships with people, doesn't care for himself, and thinks that Hanjoon is someone he can't hurt, like he hurt Hyesun, and like his parents hurt each other and him. The photograph and Eunho's words made him realize - especially after Hanjoon refused to have sex after Jaeha was trembling too much - that Hanjoon is capable of being hurt, too, and that Jaeha's attempts to maintain a sort of getting by lifestyle haven't allowed him to avoid hurting people.
I also appreciate how the story emphasizes that Jaeha loved/loves Hyesun. It was clearly true affection, and the fact he felt he was the problem makes it so much more tragic. It sounds like he wasn't cheater on her - unlike his father - but he struggled to connect with her in a way she was comfortable with. And how Eunho's obsession with... perhaps not replacing Hyesun and Hanjoon, but being even more important than them, isn't an answer either. You don't have to be your lover's one true love. You need to accept people as they are. And because Eunho can't fully do that, and can only see his relationship with Jaeha through the lens of his own issues, they struggle. Hopefully Eunho figures that out at some point, because Jaeha is struggling even as he tries to come around to supporting Eunho properly rather than keeping his distance. Eunho is trying to be supportive of Jaeha in other ways, like getting a job to support them is thoughtful, especially since it sounds like the art studio isn't exactly a winning lifestyle for Jaeha (though he appears to love comfortable in his place). But it's not everything Jaeha needs in a partner.
Overall, it continues to be a fun story with neat depth, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.
