If something ever seems too good to be true, it probably is. That’s how the “friendly” invitation to join a new coven turned into a surprise demon summoning. At least it wasn't a virgin sacrifice. Then I really would have been screwed—and not in the way they plan for with the succubus they’ve bound.
When I help free her from the bindings and offer her a ride back to work, things get even weirder. She tells me she wants to see me again. This captivating woman wants to see me—a nerdy witch who spends his free time playing D&D.
There’s no way she means it. Because that’s definitely too good to be true. Still, there’s no way I can resist the opportunity to spend more time with a goddess like her.
A succubus with a soft heart…
Nothing like getting summoned by a bunch of cultists to ruin your night. These creeps trapped me and won’t let me leave until I “feed on their desires”. I may be a succubus, but I’m not that desperate.
Thankfully, an unexpected savior helps free me. He’s adorable. So shy and earnest, valiantly trying to suppress the desire he feels in my presence. At first, I think it’s an act. But he proves his sweet nature is genuine.
Something about this witch calls to me. Not just to take him to the darkest depths of desire and see him undone—though that sounds fun. But to let myself open my scarred heart to someone who might not crush it.
Maneater is a cozy, high-heat monster romance novella set in the 1980s featuring a lanky cinnamon roll witch MMC, and a curvy, confident succubus FMC.
This novella is a prequel to the upcoming novel, Behold Her, but both can be read as stand-alone stories.
Emily loves cozy, emotional, and spicy romances with a monstrous twist. When she isn’t musing on the merits of doting, dominant monsters, she reads an obscene amount of romance novels, and cultivates her eccentric recluse persona.
I'm in love! Maneater is a wholesome smutty novella following a soft domme succubus FMC and a shy inexperienced witch MMC, with all the good tropes including reverse age gap and opposites attract. This story has my whole heart, it is so perfectly soft and steamy. The two MCs were so sweet together and I absolutely loved how they gradually fell in love after getting to know each other. Now this is a novella (159 pages), but there is some slow burn and it was done so well; the MMC is very shy and nervous about being together but the FMC is more than willing to go at his pace. I loved how the two were on the same page from the beginning, they both communicated and made sure the other was comfortable and happy before they settled down. I absolutely recommend this novella and think it would be a great read for spooky season.
~Many thanks to Emily Antoinette for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review!
i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again. i love pathetic men. i love men who yearn. i love men who worship at the feet of their women. if i didn’t live with my family you would see me wearing a shirt every single day that said “I ❤️ PATHETIC MEN.” like… you could tell me the mmc in a book is a pathetic in love loser and i would be immediately sold. no further questions. (hmu if you have recs this isn’t a joke)
there was honestly no plot outside of the romance but like.. idgaf😁 it also amuses me greatly that this book takes place in the 80s. presumably because i know at least the first book is about one of their children, happening 40ish years later i think? i would have read a full length book of these characters! this was a novella and i liked it but i enjoyed it sm i wish it had been longer 😔
will probably read the rest of the series eventually!
2024 audiobook: Shane and Elle are couple goals. The spice was top tier and translated well into an audiobook. The narrators did a good job drawing us into the story and it’s absolutely worth a listen.
Cozy consent heavy romance
It’s always fun to have a change of pace with a femme Dom romance with a softer MMC. Shane was absolutely adorbs and was perfect for Elle. I think a little more interpersonal conflict would have improved the book, but is was still a good spicy novella.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: dubcon (off page and not between MCs), emotional abuse (off page)
I loved this book so much uff it was really precious to me😭💓!!! Maneater is a short but fun monster romance with a soft domme succubus, shy, polite, nerdy virgin witch and a delicious slow burn. It’s got that perfect balance of sweet and spicy!!
The MMC is adorably awkward, the FMC knows exactly what she wants, and their dynamic is just chef’s kiss. The slow burn was really well done—he’s nervous, she’s patient, and the communication between them was actually refreshing. Even though this book was really short it didn’t felt rushed at all , and their relationship had a natural, gradual build-up that made the payoff even better.
f you like cozy monster romances that still bring the heat, this is definitely one to check out, especially if you’re in the mood for something quick and satisfying!!
Paranormal MF Witch / Succubus Lots of Praise Femdom Good Boy Vibes Virgin MC Cozy & Smutty Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cozy spice is one of the best things ever. This was just a cute, adorable and perfectly spicy little read that got me out of a 24hr reading slump (that’s long for me!) I read this in a couple of hours, just a nice kick start for me.
Shane is an adorable MC that is so very considerate and very firm on consent. When he gets with a coven and accidentally helps summon a succubus he’s not happy at all and does what he can to help the gorgeous demon. Elle finds the shy nerdy ginger adorable and endearing and a breath of fresh air compared to what she’s used to. What follows is a lot of awkwardness and all the awwwww moments you could imagine with a virgin that thinks he’s not match for a succubus.
A short story that has cute love story and lots of spice. Lots of positivity. Just super cute.
it's a good 3 stars 🌟 but there were some things that i didn't enjoy.
1- he didn't have a single possessive bone in this body 😔 as much as i love soft heroes i draw the line at sharing ✋🏼 he was okay with the idea of her having an orgy while he wait at the corner🧍🏼♀️ and he said "I’m willing to share you, if that’s what will make you happy." 🤠 (Elle and me: 😲)
2- even after they start seeing each other she feeds from other people😔 i know she's a succubus so she needs to feed but my romantic heart wanted her to feed from him and him only 😢
what i liked;;;;;
they are both sex positive and both main characters are bi and they accept each other as who they are 💕
Shane is shy, nerdy, virgin, anxious, very eager to please🤭 basically my favorite type of hero 😌 and he looooooves being a good boy 😏
Elle is a succubus and works as a dancer at the strip club. she's summoned by a sex cult which Shane accidentally joined 🙈 he saves her and they fell in love 👍🏼(basic plot)
❓the one thing i didn't understand is; he's 24 and she's 37 but obviously they're adults and i guess their life span is long. but in the epilogue their children 35+ and they're just leaving the house🤨 and it sounded like they were young so it confused me a little
🧿 no owd/omd, no third act 💞 just two people being cute and sexy together
"We could spend a thousand lifetimes together, and I'd never tire of you."
A sexy, dom succubus FMC and an awkward, sweet witch MMC set in the 80s? YES. YES TO ALL.
I was constantly giggling, blushing, and cracking up while reading this. With some shouting at Shane (in a loving way) mixed in. Elle's constant teasing of Shane and making him blush was perfection.
There is delicious tension and slow burn (but not too much since it is a novella) and once we get to the big moment it's all worth it! Emily writes the spicy scenes perfectly. Lots of spice but with supportive characters who respect each other's kinks and boundaries.
I cannot wait to get more of this world and these characters!
Maneater was such a sweet, cozy, and fun little treat! I devoured this novella in one go and finished it with a huge smile on my face. 😆
Shane? Oh my god, Shane is a walking green flag. Wait, scratch that—he’s an entire forest! He’s the ultimate trustworthy good boy. Sweet, sincere, soft-spoken, and absolutely adorable. My heart melted into goo every time he blushed or babbled or just tried his damn best to make Elle happy. Literal tooth-aching sweetness! 🥹💚
And Elle? She’s radiant. Confident yet vulnerable in the most human way. All she wants is to be loved for who she is—and Shane gives her exactly that. Their dynamic is everything I wanted and more. Elle’s soft domme energy pairs perfectly with Shane’s subby eagerness. He’s so eager to please and she gives him the space to grow, while still leading with warmth and grace.
I also really enjoyed that Shane is a witch and Elle is a succubus! The magical elements added an extra layer of fun to the story—spells being cast, wings and a tail in the mix... and yes, even tentacles made an appearance in the bedroom. It was wild, playful, and so much fun! 🤭😏
I just loved how emotionally safe their connection felt. It’s low-angst, high-vibes, and heartwarming as hell. Plus, set in the '80s? Cute bonus.
While the spice isn’t off-the-charts, it’s still very satisfying and intimate. You can feel the love between them, and honestly? That’s the hottest part. 💞✨️

This was the first book I ever read by Emily, and because of this Shane and Elle have such a special place in my heart. I cannot believe it has been nearly 2 years !! Even back in 2023 I knew Emily was going to be a new favourite author.
This book is everything you need. It is cozy, it is silly, and it is quite sexy. These characters are also a big part of future books (all standalones).
I am excited to re-experience the story through the Behold Her audiobook. I need to be in this world again. I have been saving it for a rainy day.
---- old review from 2023 below:
omg!!!!! this was everything i needed and more.
i love shane and elle so much. how emily wrote these characters and this world has instantly made her one of my new all time favourite authors. i also loved the humor throughout the book.
and the spice!! oh my lord. 😭 this book will live in my brain forever
✨ARC REVIEW✨ This novella is so wholesome and fun to read, everyone should take a moment to do it. Shane the witch is so endearing, so cute, shy and kind, I'm in love. And Elle the succubus is a queen and deserves all the love he can give her. Her soft domme tendencies are just too adorable. I love that she is pink 😍. Their meet cute was also a bit creepy but in a fun way... Their relationship is goals.
Great LGTBQIA rep. Awesome side characters.
Can us D&D goblins take a moment to appreciate the nerd love?
This was the perfect cosy monster romance read. Can't wait to read more.
OOT cavity-inducing sweet with zero angst. While enjoyable, I guess I just found it ...too nice and copacetic.
Also, this was supposed to be an 80s romp, but I couldn't pull one thing of substance that made me feel like I was in the 80s - where was my throwback?!
That being said, apparently the next book in the series (technically Book #1 since this was a prequel novella) is a bit darker which I find intriguing, so will take a peek.
Ngl, this took me a hot minute to finish. But that’s cuz I was in a huge reading slump and couldn’t get into anything!
I finally finished this novella tho and it was so cute and sexy! I’m so glad I finished reading this now too because this was the perfect spicy spooky season read! Hopefully I can get out of this slump to read some more!
Thank you Emily for my signed copy and I can’t wait to read your future releases!
This is the first book I've read from this author, and I can't wait for Behold Her to come out! Of course, I knew it was probably going to be amazing beforehand because it's a SuccubusxWitch Romance... but it got so unbelievably great that it genuinely surpassed my expectations.
Elle (fmc) is a demon -a succubus- who's working as a dancer in a club when she's pulled out and summoned by a random coven of witches seeking her out. Shane (mmc) is a lonely witch looking for a coven and is trying out a new group when all of a sudden he realised they're a s3x cult. The situation sets him on edge, not only because he's a v¡rgin, but because the other witches are trying to force the most beautiful woman -well, demon- he's ever seen into having an 0rgy...
I am forever on the lookout for books with domme fmcs, and this one had the paranormal spin in it that made it absolutely delicious. Elle is a soft domme, and even though it's in her nature to feed from s3xual energy, she was so patient and caring when it came to Shane. She let him set the pace for everything that they did and when, but the spice is sooooo good!
I truly cannot wait to read the book this novella is teasing about. I do have to say that stalker, dark romances are not really my thing, but I am willing to give Behold Her a try.
This was such a fun read. A spicy 80's sitcom with monsters. I loved all the characters, but of course, Shane (MMC) has to be my favorite. I just love nerdy boys! Elle (FMC) was so fun. The story was great. Loved all the interactions between Elle and Shane. Spice was the cherry on top. Looking forward to more of this series.
I absolutely adored this novella. The character interactions are sweet, entertaining, and hilarious. The main couple’s relationship is so healthy and wonderful. They respect each other’s boundaries, communicate their needs, and love each other unconditionally. The MMC is nervous and adorable and the FMC is deliciously commanding. Even though they are complete opposites, they learn and grow together in such a delightful way.
There was literally NO need for mention of it at all. This wasn’t a time period. No need for any time period to be mentioned at all.
I have more problems with this story than enjoyment. Overall it was annoying. The MMC was too much with his need for consent to the point that it actually made me as dry as the Sahara
Quick, straight to the point and so good. Shane is so cute and their relationship is a delight. Plus, I'm a sucker for submissive men so there was no way I wouldn't enjoy this.
My only problem was with the epilogue because it got me really confused with the ages of the characters and how much time actually passed.
Representation: bisexual (& virgin) male main character, pansexual female main character, nonbinary side character.
Content Warnings: sexual content, dom/sub dynamic, kinks, past relationship trauma, sexual coercion, slut shaming, fears about coming out, social anxiety, worries about sexual performance.
When you have a soft femdom succubus, a sweet and nerdy witch who is a virgin and they meet because of a sex cult gone wrong, you just know it's going to be such a lovely story! I adored this and I had so much fun reading. The 80's setup is so whimsical but it doesn't take over (the perfect backdrop). The sex positivity and queer representation are so good too!
I also really enjoy how slow burn this is in a way, even though it's very spicy. The way Elle is so patient with Shane and allows their relationship to move on his terms in the bedroom is so good to witness. Loved that, because easing into things is totally valid.
3.5 rounded up I usually dont like the virgin trope, but it was done well in this book and wasn't cringey. Despite it's name, Maneater, was very cute. I thought it was interesting to see a male witch main character and a female demon. My only critique would be that this book is supposed to be set in the 80s, yet there was nothing 80s about it. There was a brief mention of MTV, but MTV was popular for several decades, not just the 80s. I also could have done without the epilogue.
