I had loved books before this, I know, but owning this series one by one as I reached the end of each graded reader was an absolute delight for me. They are “reading books,” with all the clunky text (“Tip you are a good dog”) that entails, but I liked even that, and was even a bit regretful when Mrs Pascoe moved me off them in what we now call Year 2.
Given my later interest in children’s books, it’s odd to think of this as a core text for me but it was: and my parents’ committed plan of buying them for me and listening to me read was key to who I grew up to be.
