What happens when a star hockey player ruins your trip to Cabo… on purpose? You end up on the plane ride from hell headed to his snowy hometown.
He’s my mortal enemy and one of the hottest NHL players in the league, but I have no interest in hockey players… well, not anymore. And Lake Powers is no exception.
Now I'm stuck sleeping under the same roof of this picturesque mountain mansion and I have to deliver what I set out to do... turn Lake into America's Sweetheart with this charity event. I won't allow myself to get distracted by the man the puck bunnies refer to as "Magic Stick".
What I didn't expect to find when I arrived in Aspen is a different side of Lake than the filthy hockey player I thought he was. So, when he offers up a bet that I'm sure to win, I jump the gun and agree before hearing his indecent wager.
Now I’m locked into his terms and he's hedging his stake on one thing he knows about me... I never back down from a bet.
As an avid reader myself, and a Westcoast girl, I love two things: swoon-worthy pro athlete book boyfriends, and writing stories about them living in the beautiful Northwest where I'm blessed to call home.
I do my best work late at night after I’ve tucked in my three littles, and my hard-working husband.
I think it was 3 stars it had potential for 4, but I don’t know, there was something missing I couldn’t quite pinpoint it. overall, it was an enjoyable and fast paced read
If there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s a book where the FMC gets shit on at every single turn. Where they make they make everything fall in favour of a shitty mmc who treats the FMC like garbage. There is nothing attractive about a book constantly giving the terrible MMC the upper hand. It’s so common in books that it’s absolutely infuriating now.
I don’t know if it’s internalised misogyny or some weird masochism thing, or if the authors have never been in this kind of god awful situation in their lives.
Okay so this book felt like it took forever to get to the actual climax of the book which was unexpected. They were also only together for literally 5 minutes which was kind of annoying. Like yes I get the slow burn but is it truly a slow but you only get 2 real scenes with them being coupley??? Also this was solely a do it for the plot book. Everytime I thought something would happen, it would just drag out or switch up and I’m like??? Overall 3/5 because I’m lowkey disappointed and the plot development was alright.
DNF. Lake is the most selfish character I have read in a long time. He’s an asshole to Tessa because he finds it entertaining then ruins her VACATION plans to make her come to a “charity” event which is just him looking at girls in a wet tshirt contest and doesn’t even apologize for it when she confronts him. And don’t even get me started on that half ass confrontational scene. Tessa has every right to be downright pissed but all of a sudden he kisses her and all she wants to do is fuck him in a broom closet? Give women more credit than that. Like I don’t care how hot a guy is, if he wronged me like Lake did to Tessa, I’m NOT kissing him. The girls who do that are insecure and deserve 100000000 times better. I usually like enemies to lovers books but this one just made me roll my eyes and I couldn’t root for the characters to get together. I don’t care about Lake’s troubled past, I’m 65% into the book and there has been very few times in Lake’s POV where he feels remorse for being a complete asshole to Tessa. And like Tessa isn’t even being an ass!!!!! She’s just doing her job and he’s refusing to cooperate. Like grow up Lake. He’s like 30 or something??? Inexcusable behavior. Maybe he would be redeemed in the last ~40% but I can’t stomach the selfishness from Lake and the wishy washy feelings of Tessa when she deserves to be angry and deserves a genuine apology.

This version of the cover makes it out to make it look like I’m reading literally just sex scenes (there were only two). Regardless, it’s an okay book that I’ll rate 3.5 stars I think. Lots of gramatical errors, so this series is giving WattPad fanfic energy. Additionally, who the fuck names their child “River”. I looked ahead in the series and it looks like one of the characters named “Seven” is getting his own book. Might kms before I can get behind reading about a guy named Seven.
Audible. The MMC was an egotistical narcissistic asshole. He shows no respect to the FMC’s position on the team. He feels fully in the right being an asshole to her telling her to say please like men tell woman to smile, and then proceeds to punish her for not doing so. At no point does he come to the realization that his attitude and actions were wrong. He also faces no consequences for his actions in this regard. I liked the FMC much better the only issue is her first instinct is always to run away. I still like this author which combined with increasing the speed got me through. The amount of times I yelled FU at the mmc while out on walks has probably given me a bad rep in the neighborhood.
Audio-I don’t understand the negative reviews. I loved this book. Lake has wanted Tessa since he saw her in stands four years earlier. This is an enemies to lovers workplace romance. And her brother plays for the same team but there are no issues there. They both have tragedies in their pasts and Tessa has sworn off hockey players since her verbally abusive ex. She got out when he got physical. There are serious moments, funny one liners and a lot of push and pull. There is banter and a lot of chemistry.
Okay.. Honestly I think I enjoyed almost everything but the end sucked... like the ending was so rushed and undeveloped and so much more could have been cut out from like the beginning or middle if you really needed to save space
I ate this book up. I started reading it last night and was able to finish it today. It had me hooked. This was even better than the first book! Really loving this series!!
Most of these books are actually four star reads in my opinion, but some of the events are just too good to be true and highly predictable. I'll finish the series as a completionist, but I'm rather disappointed.
3.5 stars rounded down Not as good as book 1 but still a good book. Two characters with troubled past having a hard time letting the other one in. Dual perspective, some spice and sports romance.
Love a book with a good bet😂. Sort of enemies to lovers as they had that whole enemies thing going on in the first book. Forced proximity. The tension between them is crazy even if it starts out as them hating each other lol. He’s so smug and cocky it’s actually hilarious🙄😂 and Tessa she’s just a boss never backs down love that for her! Knew I was going to love there story from the first book. Felt so sorry for lake after what he went through and didn’t trust himself or love himself enough to love someone else🥺. I’m glad it all worked out in the end 4/5⭐️
I loved this book! The angsty enemies to lovers vibe was 🔥 This was funny, so sweet, grumpy to sunshine-ish. Found family and steamy! I loved everything about this book and didn’t want it to end! 🌶️🌶️
This just became one of my favorite hockey books of all time. Everything about it was utter perfection. This couple was perfect (I need a synonym for perfect). Even the small random parts like the festival or what he was wearing were just…. Perfect. Everyone needs to go read this ugh.
Series is growing on me. I fear I am onto the next one. These covers are so bad though like please save me and let me figure out to hide my reading challenge from friends.
This book had so much potential, but I feel like it was so rushed. I am a sucker for the MMC having trauma and being able to work through it with his partner, but there was none of that in this book. I say it again, this book was too rushed, and she didn’t deliver the car crash as well as she should’ve. Love both the characters but i need more depth
I felt like it took forever to get to where the main characters got together. Yes it is a slow burn but dang I wanted more of them together. I did enjoy how the characters grew in their own way through the book.
