Folasade “Sade” is a voluptuous, free-spirited ultrasound student who is ready to break away from the safe, predictable world her parents carved out for her. She is determined to do things on her terms. Sade has a time-consuming major, but nothing will stand in the way of the audacious life she knows she deserves.
Booker Avery Edmund III, better known as Trey, is an extraordinary young man who is about to be released from prison for a murder he committed. He doesn't have a single regret for what he did, but he abhors the way he’s perceived and treated for what he knows was the right thing to do.
What happens when Sade must perform an intimate exam on a devilishly enticing inmate? She knows he’s taken a life, but when she’s with him all she experiences is a kind soul who makes her feel safe. Will Sade see Trey after his release? Or will the details of his crime drive a wedge between them before they can enter into the consensual affair they both crave?

I saw the cover and title of this book and it was over for me, I had to get it. Reading about ex-cons finding love is my guilty pleasure, I can't help it.
I loved Trey and Sade together, they had a lot of chemistry and weren't ashamed to be attracted to one another. Sade treated Trey like a human being when he was still an inmate, and that didn't change when he got out.
Another review mentioned they wished that we got more about Trey's anger issues and I 100% agree, I feel like that wasn't explored enough. I also wish it was longer, I want more of these characters.
I wouldn't mind a spinoff with Vince and Imani and maybe even Rashad and D and their girls too.
I'll be checking out more of Denise Essex's books in the future.
I liked it, just didn't love it. I felt it needed more. When Sade met Trey, she knew that he was an inmate, and I appreciated how she treated him with dignity and respect. However, Sade not wanting to know what he did, was unrealistic for me. Cause girl what? 🤯 We want to know who hollering, and why police cars at the house down the street. 😂 You mean to tell me, she is interested in this man, and doesn't want to know why he was in prison? 👀🤬
Trey. I wanted more insight about his family dynamics, as well as his anger issues. Was there a reason he was so angry, and blacked out? We touched on an important issue here about families hiding or sweeping under the rug "issues" men have with being inappropriate with their female family members. I would have liked to spend more time learning about Sean, and his behaviors. I believe that would have helped the reader better understand why the family was divided, and why Trey's response was so violent. This part was brushed over, and it really was an important part of the story, as it explained why Trey was locked up in the first place.
Sade and Trey had great chemistry, just didn't feel a genuine connection between them. They were ready and willing to get it in, whenever and wherever, but the love, I didn't feel.
Check it out for yourselves readers. My meter is off every once in a while. 😂
Love has an ironic way of showing up because it's not always fairytales. Sade and Trey met through a medical exam. Their meeting shows that love taps on your shoulder at the most inconspicuous time. Trey and Sade's story was an instant love romance, the heart's eyes came out on the first encounter. However, their story was also a significant healing for Trey. He needed to heal from the pain, hurt, and disappointment from his past. Although he landed in prison he had a valid reason why he resulted in violence. The abuse was obvious. The lessons with his old teacher channeled his anger. He needed to do that not only for himself but for Sade as well. One of her demands for their relationship was to stay out of prison. Her heart couldn't take him away from her. Trey and Sade made their relationship work. They both fell hard, quickly, while living their happily ever after.
This is a fast-paced read, I felt like I started it and then it was over shortly after. A few parts needed more depth because they seemed rushed in my opinion. It is still an interesting read so grab your copy today.
This one had me rolling laughing and kicking my feet! Definitely a good time with Trey don’t play. He definitely bought all the BDE! This one will definitely keep you entertained ❤️❤️❤️
This wasn’t what I expected. I honestly expected to know about his prison time but we only knew about after prison but the book was pretty good. The couple complimented each other and flowed.
This was a good little novella. Not amazing but not bad. Definitely Instalove which isn’t my favorite but I liked the concept of this. People with records are still human and deserve to be treated well. I do love that Denise stressed that point! I always enjoy a woman who can be a man’s peace, the calming energy. It was a cool Friday evening read.
This was a cute short story. I love how this author always seems to take some taboo situations and make them into a cute love story. I really liked Trey and Sade together and how adventurous they were with their lovemaking.
This was my first reading a book from this author. I think the book was good. I just wish the book was longer. I was blown away that Sade didn’t want to know why Tray was locked up! That didn’t make sense. There was some great places she could have taken this story. Good read overall.
I liked the book and the main characters were funny. It was only okay because it contained too many different elements that weren't or couldn't be properly developed for the length of the book, so it felt rushed and chaotic. Again it's an okay read 📚👌🏾❣️
This book is short, sexy, and spicy. I loved the way the characters didn’t allow there circumstances to stand in the way of thee way they felt for one another
Title: Prison Bae Author: Denise Essex Publisher: D. E. Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review: "Prison Bae" by Denise Essex
My Sentiments:
"Prison Bae" was a cute, short, romantic read that keeps readers turning to pages. We find Sade first meets Brooker [aka...Trey] while he is serving time but having some trouble with some private parts... and this is where Sade comes into play with her 'intimate exam.' Sage worked in the county hospital while doing her clinical rotation part in school and met Trey. Trey's life had been turned upside down by a murder, but he was getting out soon, and he desired to meet up with Sade, who had worked on him while he was confined. So, what happens when he meets up with her at a coffee shop while accidentally running into her? It was beautiful to see how Sade treated Trey when he was an inmate...like a human being!
This is where I saw the reader will have to pick up 'Prison Bae' to see how well this author brings it all out...from their first meeting at the hospital, finding out what had happened with Trey previously with the life that put him into prison... his life now that he was out of jail..the two [Trey & Sade]...their families...the breakup, why?... Sada's school friends... her graduation...and their engagement. Yes, these two were made for each other... and seeing them get to their HEA will be quite an exciting storyline.
I really enjoyed Trey and Sadie's story. There was instant chemistry between them even though Trey was still a prisoner when they first encountered each other. Sade didn't show any judgment towards Trey which was refreshing to have in a book. Once Trey was released, I understood better why he did what he did to get put in prison. Speaking of his release, Sade and Trey were all over each other and didn't care where or how they got it in with their hot tails. 😂😂😂 I loved the way Trey's government name actually spelled out BAE. It was good to have some appearances from characters from previous books which is always a treat. Love and passion ruled in this book and I couldn't put it down. Grab this book. You won't be sorry that you did.
I didn’t know what to think at first but yeah. I’ve read my fair share of books about folks hooking up with inmates but I really liked how the focused on Trae’s mental health (more so family issues that contributed to his mental state). I also liked how for the sake of staying out of prison and not missing out on the love of his life, he learned to become transparent about his past trauma and triggers. Even though I will always feel a way about people hooking up with inmates, I’m glad Sade gave him a chance.
Trey is a convicted felon. In a low-level prison for murder. Is he guilty? Yes. Is he justified? 🤔 That’s the question that has everyone at the edge of their seats.
Sade is a student ultrasound tech just trying wrap up her clinicals when she crosses paths with a very handsome inmate. When she sees him again in the free world, she has to decide if his past is greater than his future. She also has to decide does that future include her.
Well, okay, Miss Lady, I couldn't wait to read this book, and I was not disappointed. I like the twist on the book title 😉. Sade and Booker AKA Trey are another couple I will remember. We all have them. I like how they met and their journey to love. I like the way you handled the seriousness of the subjects in this book. I definitely recommend this book. It was my pleasure reading this book 🥰.
Denise, good read. Thanks for showing a different kind of man coming back into the community. Booker has the heart of a lion and such a caring soul. Meeting Sade Booker was allowed to see a new way to have peace, meeting Booker Sade was able to have a true friendship that turned into something special. The love that is given freely will go along way.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
This was a good quick read Sade and Trey we’re good for each other I love that the MFC was written as strong an confident in herself who wasn’t accepting of anything now Trey had no an issues but he acknowledged an self corrected …. I don’t under why the aunt turned a blind eye to what her did an not telling Chris what his brother did… I loved the secondary friendships formed
Those two separate are too funny but together I just love it. They had me cracking up from chapter 1. Then the first time they met took me out lol. My girl Sade didn’t have to do my dude Trey like that but I’m she didn’t drag it out too long. Lil bro Fela got wisdom lol. He knowing. Loved this read. Definitely recommend.
This was a cute novella. I liked how Sade didn’t judge Trey for his situation. I’m glad that Trey and Jamie were able to get the closure that they both needed. This was so cute and well written.
Prison Bae was everything for it to be a quick read. I loved the fact that Sade was open to give Trey a chance. Both of their personalities was enjoyable and didn't annoy me at any point. And all for a happy ending in black love stories.
Sade was better than me I would have wanted to know immediately. Why he was sent to prison. She had a little bit too much blind trust in the beginning of their relationship.
Great job with this book. Read this book in one setting. I loved Treys love for Sade. Sade helped to keep him calm and their sexual tension was everything. Great job Denise.
I got the ending I wanted....they are so cute together. I sped thru this one....I couldn't put it down. Definitely one of my favorite books from denise essex can't wait to dive into the next one
This was a good quick read that I did enjoy reading. People find love in all kinds of places and a prison hospital just happened to be the place for Trey and Sadè. The intimate scenes were spicy but I didn’t like the fact that they were in public places most of the time.
As soon as I finished reading, I was like “Hey Alexa, play Greenlight by John Legend” lmao. This book was quick cute, spicy, and hilarious. Especially the piercings LOL. My first book by Denise Essex, but definitely not the last!
