I really enjoyed following this couple, both of them were very messed up and I adored the plot twist. I had expected more use of kinks and such but still a very enjoyable read but bit dark and messed up. At times the dialogue between them got a bit cringy and sounded rather silly but didn't take away from to enjoyment. Will hopefully read more from this author.

Ok, so after devouring Interview with a Sadist and then Kingdom, I had to start this book within minutes of finishing Kingdom. Maybe that was a mistake.

Sure, I knew this book would be darker, but I also thought that meant it would be kinkier. And while there is a good scene here and there, the problems I had with this book far outweigh the joy I got from the spicy scenes.

First there are the two MC’s. Evan is a repulsively stupid “dom.” I’m trying to keep this spoiler free but my god is he a moron and not only boring but hella unsafe as a top. She’s described as an alpha sub but in reality neither display any characteristics that make either special other than the reliance on the trope that the only reason why people are dark or kinky is because of f’d up childhood trauma.

I honestly found myself rooting for them to get caught at times.

So while I can definitely recommend Interview and Kingdom, this one is a hard NO from me.

In the off chance that the author reads this… stop having every single dom do the exact same thing things that focus more on sex than kink…. And for the love of god, stop ordering girls to stick out their tongues…it’s a weird thing to repeat in each book.

I know this book is the author’s darkest and kinkiest book to date, it left me wanting more. The trigger warning list had me waiting in mouth watering anticipation, but the overall execution was lackluster. Although, this may just say more about me and how far down the rabbit hole I’ve gone - especially since the gūn scene was the best scene out of this book imo.

“Hit me, and don’t stop until I bleed for you. Are you willing to make me bleed, Sir?”
“Little devil,” I say, smiling hard. “Nothing would bring me more joy than to make you bleed for me.”

The Scenes were enjoyable, although I really wanted more. I felt the writing was just scratching the surface of how dark, depraved, and sexy the scenes could get.

I didn’t care for either MC unfortunately, they both grated on my nerves and neither one of them had me backing their decisions and rooting for them.

I did, however, enjoy the plot of the book and the detective/suspect trope. I always enjoy the Bdsm aspect this author brings into his novels, and highlighting of the importance of consent, trust, respect, and aftercare. The Dom/sub dynamic was fire, I also appreciated seeing an Alpha sub get some spotlight.

Don’t bother.

A dom Who chastises a woman for having no regard for the rules of the BDSM lifestyle, who then literally cannot control himself while in the throes of orgasm to the point that he couldn’t hear the subs safe word if he tried? Not to mention the fact that he gives his subs safe words instead of letting them pick their own?

Also the author writes the MMC as a weirdo oaf not someone who you would want to meet in a BDSM club.

This whole book was a waste of my life. Poorly written and considering the author is in the BDSM lifestyle you’d think he would be able to write it better.

“She doesn't claw at the leather or look at me with wide eyes like she has made a mistake now that she can’t breathe. Good, because I wouldn’t stop either way.”

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOT OK. NEVER OK. A Dom always needs to be able to listen to and obey a safe word/safety taps. And they definitely need to be more observant during breath play so they don’t accidentally kill someone! Not to mention him not even attempting CPR. As annoying as his whole “nobody understands the darkness within me” shtick was, I was mostly with it until he showed just how sad of an excuse for a Dom he is.

⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶🌶🌶.5/5

TW - stalking, murder (on page), gruesome thoughts, disregard for a sub’s safety resulting in murder wrt choking / breath play (on page, plot point), child abuse (recounted), parental death (mentioned), alcoholic parent (mentioned), grievous bodily harm (on page), domestic violence & divorce (secondary character, mentioned), self harm (past, burning, briefly mentioned once)

CW - D/s, S/m, gun play, bondage, restraints, impact play, breath play (choking and strangulation), degradation, biting, spitting, activities present in a BDSM club (incl caging, voyeurism, exhibitionism)

Tropes - dark, BDSM, erotica with plot(?)

Unfortunately, I didn't vibe with this book. I will admit I was thrown all the way off by the FMCs name, idk how I was meant to take Journey seriously but her personality justified it for me. Journey was very pick me, choose me, love me, I'm not like the other girls and it was just eye roll inducing for me.

I also didn't like the MMC, Evan for a few reasons. I don’t like how he acts like his “beast” is a separate entity to him and it was his “beast” that committed murder and not him. Like pull yourself together, it was you lmao. Journey is Evan's new sub and also the detective investigating a missing girl that he murdered (not a spoiler, it's in the blurb)

There's discussions about real and fake Doms in this book which I found funny because Evan did not seem like a real Dom (at least a book Dom) to me. Evan doesn’t seem like a Dom in his actual life outside of sex and just seems to be a self proclaimed Dom in the bedroom. Him getting yelled at at work was a huge ick for me 🤣 sorry I can't help it. Evan has this thought: "Arrest. Our safe word. Fuck. I wonder how much it would take to get her to say it." Idk but that seems extremely concerning to me and again makes me feel like he's not the real Dom he claims to be. I don’t like that outside of sex he lacks control over his life, his emotions, his thoughts, he just blames it on his “beast”. He’s kind of pathetic? Like him sitting around waiting for her text? Pathetic. Have some control

He also says "They neglect the most important parts of the identity, and it ends up with submissives being hurt and taken advantage of. It infuriates me." yet your last sub is dead because of your complete disregard of her safety????? Again, fake Dom. His control is a facade and he cannot control himself in basically any scene because of (surprise!) his “beast”. There is also no conversation about limits in this book which honestly tracks for these characters.

I didn't feel like this was a forbidden romance, Evan was just paranoid. It can't really be forbidden when your detective sub starts facilitating your crimes 💀

Anyway, the characters in this did not do it for me. The premise of this story is good, I just thought it could be executed better. I'd read it for the smut rather than the plot

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

🫑 - no smut
🌶 - no point
🌶🌶 - mediocre at best
🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek

I don’t know where to begin. I got this book with high hopes only for them to fall flat. The story is about a sadist dominant that falls in love with a masochist submissive and the only problem is that she’s the detective investigating the disappearance of his previous sub…the one he killed. When I saw this synopsis, I fell in love because who doesn’t love a murder mystery with a kinky twist and some spice? However, that’s not what I found. I also got the feeling that the author wanted the MMC to be morally grey so bad but he just made him psychotic and an asshole. I honestly couldn’t stand the MMC. I get that the author added a warning note at the beginning that this book is very dark, but I’ve read extremely dark romance books and this isn’t one of them. I don’t understand how there are readers who love this MMC and his actions. I get that what he did for his sub is considered a morally grey vibe, especially with the whole touch her and die vibes, but come on. It’s obvious that the two characters are psychos who are selfish and don’t care about anyone else. And I get that, I’ve read other characters who have done similar things, but not to innocent people. The side characters, especially the corpses were all innocent. Maybe the author should’ve added more depth to the villainy of the side characters but honestly, I just saw a man child getting away with murder and a crazy detective.
And what’s crazy is that their whole love story, according to Evan, started because Sierra orgasmed to death…literally. In all of the BDSM and dark romance books that I’ve read, I never saw an MMC who was morally grey and killed an innocent person. I don’t think we even should romanticize such relationships because both of these characters literally needed to be admitted into a psychiatric hospital. The romance between Evan and Journey is morally grey coded to a small extent, but I still don’t think we should romanticize them. It’s like the Joker and Harley, yeah I love the duo but it doesn’t mean that I romanticize them, plus when thinking of them in a dark romance book, they always go for the bad guys, not the people who are simply an inconvenience for them and caught them doing the murdering!

This was sooo much better than I could have expected!! TBH it was on the verge of being a 5⭐️!!

I’m Gonna give it 4.5⭐️! The one thing that kept annoying me, at least in the beginning was the continuous use of “the beast” like on one page I’m pretty sure I saw it like 5/6 times!! If it hadn’t have been for that it would 100% have been a 5⭐️ read!!!
It was soooo damn good!!!

And that twist in the 2nd epilogue 😱😱😱😱😱 so damn good!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen WS Greer has entered the world of dark romance with his latest book. This is his darkest book to date so strap yourselves in as you’re in for one wild kinky ride.

Evan is just your average blue collar guy who also happens to be a Dom. Finding himself in a spot of trouble with the law after accidentally killing his play partner mid-scene, Evan meets Detective Journey Monroe. Journey is investigating the disappearance of a young woman who was last seen with Evan leaving the local kink club.

On a chance encounter at a local bar Journey and Evan run into each other and Journey convinces Evan to meet her one evening at The Black Collar for a drink and the rest is history. Journey and Evan both have a dark side with troubled pasts that makes them a perfect match for each other.

This book not only has excellent spice that you come to expect from any WS Greer book, but the storyline keeps you on edge and will leave you speechless at the lengths these two will go for love. The book is completely from Evan’s point of view which I thought was refreshing to read as it’s not often you come across a spicy book completely from a males POV.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book. Is it dark? Yes. Is it kinky? I guess.. It didn't really have as much kink as I expected it to.
Evan is a dom, & he's a nut. He blames it on childhood trauma. He partakes in BDSM & one night he got a little carried away & choked a girl to death. A few days later, two detectives show up at his door with questions about this missing girl, and Evan instantly feels a connection to the female cop.
The lady cop is Journey, and she's a sub. She's also a nut.. even nuttier than Evan. Straight loca. She, too, blames her nutty ways on childhood trauma. They spend their days having sex and killing folks.
The amount of BDSM in this book makes it dark, but unfortunately, the kink wasn't where I'd thought it would be. The book started off great and I had high expectations, however it did not carry on throughout the book.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and even though I’m not too deep into dark romance…this book is dark!!! I was definitely on the edge of my seat while reading and even though it has some thriller and mystery aspects, I was still able to enjoy it. All of the characters were very well written and the chemistry between Evan and Journey was spectacular. I loved the twist that was at the end and it was something that I didn’t see coming, which added to how the author uses suspense. I can’t wait to read more from him and if you’re into dark romance with BDSM aspects, this is for you!!

This was an awesome macabre and dark kinky book- unlike his other work for sure but in a great way! I think I’m very much into dark romance WS Greer lol. Lots of shocking stuff if you’re new to the genre, it’s not meant to be erotica and there are some scenes you’ll find yourself questioning yourself basically😂 for those who love the depraved like myself, you will thoroughly enjoy this;) This man accidentally kills a Sub, then ends up being the Dom for the detective investigating the missing sub- and she is possibly more depraved than him, they’re truly meant to be;)

As the title states this read will be dark and not intended for everyone. I expected it to be erotic and full of bdsm like Interview with a sadist. It does involve some erotica when it comes to dangerous kinks.

I would have never expected Journey to be so crazy in love with Evan. Wow journey surprised me with her epilogue. She definitely is his perfect mate.

I received a arc copy in a exchange for a honest review.

So I honestly really enjoyed this book lol maybe because both the MMC and FMC were one and the same of unhinged madness. She matched his crazy and that made it a wild ride.
The plot twist was great an I loved how far they were willing to go for each other. Will definitely be reading book 2.

3.5 ⭐️

Firstly, I enjoyed the premise of this book, where the story leads us and what they both will do for each other.

Evan, is a construction worker by day, by night he’s a Dom who visits a club seeking submissive females, he has yet to find one he connects with. Until he meets Detective Monroe on his doorstep, for reasons I shall not enlighten you on. However, she initiates a meeting at the BD5M club they are both members of, from here their D/s relationship builds but secrets like lies always have a habit of discovery. Do they work together and ensure their lives are not distorted by past mistakes?

It’s was a good read, and forgive me if you feel this is a backhanded compliment but the what really put me off, was Evans’ constant f’ing whilst in scene. This is a complete opposite to how a Dom/Domme should react, toward their sub, for me the environment should be calm, controlled and commands should be spoken with precision and not using aggressive words. There for me didn’t seem to be a lot of scene play, just a few times, it was more s3x scenes without the kinks.

This book gave cringy alpha male energy in the absolute worst way. I don’t know if it was the writing style or what but I could not get into it. And then the MMC started calling his inner thoughts “the beast” I couldn’t handle it anymore 😅. I tried to keep going but I just couldn’t. I normally love BDSM books, especially the D/s category but I don’t know if this author has ever dipped his toes into BDSM but this is not a great representation of the community.

I was so excited to read a book written by a male author but it left me unsatisfied (much like his conquests, I’d assume). The POV was entirely on the MMC, and he was apparently just *SO* good in bed (cringe).. Not at all focused on how the FMC was feeling (shocking I know..)

What would you do if the person you were falling for was investigating you for a murder you committed? Better yet, what if their dark soul matched your dark soul?

YES. SO MUCH YES. I ateeee this book up.
The spice, the plot, the characters, the chemistry, THAT DARK DARK.
WS Greer is incredibly talented & this book was just complete perfection! I loved every second of this story. I was sucked in from the start and i couldn't put it down. The twists and turns and all the jaw dropping romantically toxic moments in between had me NEEDING to know what happened next.

As a fan, I loved the easter eggs. I love that he was giving some recognition to other books of his I also loved!

That ending was one of the best endings I've read. I love when the book comes full circle and you get that good "aha!" moment.

⚠️READ TRIGGER WARNINGS⚠️ GOT the ARC for this bad boy & WHOA, definitely some dark twisted kink in this, but OMG, this was soooo good. I love the lead characters. The FMC definitely surprised me, but dang, she might be my new hero LOL cuase of how brave she is. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK & if you're into some serious 💥BDSM💥 THEN THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE UP YOUR ALLEY. This book is my first from WS GREER but it's defined not going to be my only, I'm excited to read his other books. Enjoy The Dark Side 🖤

WS Greer truly outdid himself with this one, and I hope so many people give this book a chance.
Greer took his pride and joy, BDSM, and drove it straight into the world of dark romance. It's beautifully dark, wildly spicy, and showcased characters unlike anything I've seen from this author. I got the sense that he pushed himself to write these characters and it showed. In a way, he seemed to push the BDSM aspect slightly off to the side and allowed the characters to share their own story to the audience and the spice to follow second.

This books contains a lot of heavy content and is not suitable for everyone. Please take the time to read over any and all TW's because you are clearly warned when you read his books.

ON MY PERSONAL DARKNESS SCALE, I would say this book is a bit beyond middle ground (about 1-2 steps above morally grey) when it comes to darkness, but that is based on my other reading material and because I do not have any triggers to stay away from. That being said, read responsibly.

I've mentioned this before, but I will say it again, WS Greer is an auto read author for me. Well done.
