Shadows scream, whispers torment, and wishes curse.

The empire of Eisa once stood as a symbol of hope for purging the wicked magic that had plagued its lands. But, when Wielders are spotted within those borders, the sanctity that once acted as an unshakable foundation crumbles beneath Sorrel Zdraevit's feet.

With the resurgence of Wielders on Eisan soil, protests are increasing in the streets, citizens are suffering, and everywhere she turns tragedy fractures the facade of peace that had sheltered her.

As the second eldest princess in Eisa's imperial family, when war is brought to the kingdom's door, Sorrel is forced to step into a new role, leading her deeper and deeper into the world she fears most. Desperate to protect her country against dark and twisted magic, and heal those around her, she must decide what it is she stands for when the world as she knows is rendered senseless.

Unsure of whom to condemn, and whom to put her faith in, Sorrel is faced with tainted realities that threaten to destroy everything she's ever held dear. All that matters is keeping her kingdom and family safe against the monsters infiltrating her country. Secrets and lies drag her into the depths of her worst nightmare, where fighting through the calamities is the only way she will have any hope of making it out alive- If she can hold on to her own will to live.

Beneath the Scarlet Frost by Marissa Miller

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This may be the best book I’ve ever read…

From the very first page this book is like watching a movie in High definition! The authors attention to detail is really remarkable. I feel as though I’ve lived in this world she has created with all these amazing characters that I now love.

I am normally a sucker for the end of a long series. Slowly falling more in love as the story progresses. But this book has me hooked! I have never enjoyed the start of a series quite as much as I did while reading Beneath the Scarlet Frost!

Also, this has been one of my most emotional reads and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves to feel everything while reading. But bring your tissues and prepare yourself!

I really cannot put into words what I’ve felt while reading this story and I truly hope you all pick up this book as it is absolutely phenomenal. Now I’m going to go slowly die while waiting for the next installment.

Wow what a roller coaster of a ride. I wish I could give this book 10 stars. If ya like the Romanovs then please consider reading this book. This author did her research and seeing the snippets of somethings that really happened in history was wonderful. The names are not the same and neither is the world. There is magic of a wonderful kind that I have not seen. The story is from the second oldest daughters POV. There is some romance but it is not the forerunner of the story. And I was ok with that. The ending is not what ya expect. But do have some tissues handy because I definitely shed a few tears. I would highly recommend this book!!!

* I received this book as an arc to give my honest review voluntarily *

This was my first book by this author. I was immediately drawn by the action in chapter one.

I flew through this book once I sat down and dove in.

I was drawn to the characters and was so invested in their story and journey.

This book had tons of secrets and surprises. I was constantly shocked at the twist and turns.

Absolutely well done, I enjoyed this book so much!

I first came across Beneath the Scarlet Frost by Marissa Miller from a post on Instagram and let me tell you...it did not disappoint! What drew me in the most was that the characters were inspired by the Romanov family. I have been fascinated by their lives since I was a little girl. I loved the Easter eggs Marissa hid throughout her book about the Imperial family of Russia.
Even after weeks of finishing the book, it still pops into my head! It left a huge impression on me. I instantly connected with the characters! Their love for each other as a family & with their close friends, has me placing my own familiar faces with those of the characters in the story. When terrible things happen to them, I felt what they felt to my core.
The way Marissa describes her world is breathtaking! So many details about the scenery & characters. Not only that, but she has created an entire universe with Deities, myths, and history. There are multiple countries with their own cultures and magical systems. She weaves it in a way that I can picture it all clearly in my mind as if I was there. The words flow perfectly that you are captivated from the beginning. I could not put it down!
The story follows Sorrel Zdraevit and her family, the Imperial royals of the Kingdom of Eisa. Their world is turned upside down after a tragic event that happens on the night of the anniversary of their long reign. Breaking their blissful bubble! Each member goes through their own battles & personal growth.
Their adversaries...the Wielders! Humans with magical abilities that could crush entire cities and they look like everyone else. They could be your neighbor, friend, or lover. The only way to detect them is through their blood. Would you betray them?
In this tale you'll find secrets, long since forgotten, brought to light. Betrayals happening left & right and tragedy around every corner. But in this darkness you will also find strength, love, and perseverance. Maybe a little revenge...
Some are revealed and some have yet to be uncovered. I cannot wait for Marissa's next book in the Fallen Reign series! I highly recommend you read this book! It's an emotional roller coaster, so be prepared!

Beneath the Scarlet Frost is Book 1 of the Fallen Reign Series.

In a world divided between magic “Wielders” and mortals on the brink of war, Sorrel, a headstrong and compassionate princess of the reigning Zdraevit family, must now slowly confront difficult truths.

Shocking secrets are revealed, challenging everything she has ever known. Sorrel must reconcile these truths with her pious and curated upbringing to determine her place in the world.

Unexpected betrayals set her and her family on a course of danger and unimaginable heartbreak.

Themes/tropes:
❄️ Dark fantasy
❄️ Family
❄️ Childhood love
❄️ Banter
❄️ War and politics
❄️ Betrayal
❄️ Magic
❄️ Ends in a cliffhanger
🌶️: 0.5/5

“You won't lose me, Snowdrop. Even if the Divinities themselves- even if Dimaer tried to take me away, I'd find some way back to you. Nothing could stop me”

“We could dance. That went well before. Or just stand here together. Anything to be close to you, Snowdrop, even a second longer”

I love the unique magic system and complex characters. I am still reeling from the events and need to know what happens next in Sorrel’s journey!

❄️Beneath the Scarlet Frost immerses the reader in a sweeping world inspired by Russian royalty. This emotionally gripping and haunting tale questions concepts of humanity and morality and is a perfect read for historical fiction fans seeking fantasy elements.

This book will be my Roman Empire. Without a doubt one of the best books I’ve ever read. Marissa wrote such a beautiful family set in such a beautiful world. It’s rare that I am completely shocked by what happens in books and my jaw was seriously just on the floor.
The magic is unique and refreshing. The high fantasy setting is described so beautifully I felt like I was there. I wanted to crawl through the pages and be with Sorrel and Ina all through their trials. The prose is ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING. I can’t say I’ve ever been obsessed with an authors words, like their actual word choices, but in this case I absolutely am. This story is full of high stakes, magic, family, royal issues, and a little bit of romance. Oh and betrayal. Did I forget that? I’m not spoiling anything for anyone. But be aware this ends with a CLIFFHANGER. I loved this book. I’m getting a physical copy of this book. If you like fantasy you need to read this.

"Perhaps I had been foolish to look for light in a shadow. That was the downside to wishes. They dared you to hope for the impossible, but hurts you deeply if not fulfilled in the desired way. It was in that way I could see how wishes could quickly turn into curses."

"And now it is our turn, We have reaped what so many others have sewn."

Review:
This book was wonderful! To start off, it is based on the folklore of the Romanov family, which is actually one of my favourite type of folklore and includes some of my favourite books! To start off, Marissa captivates us with a moment that happened in the past & set the mood for the story. Then, we get introduced to each sibling in the royal family and get to know them and love them throughout the story.

Then, Marissa begins to introduce the magical aspect of the story and this part is amazing as you get to love all the affinities and learn more about the world building. What stands out in this book is that the world building is spaced out and does not feel overwhelming at all! This is true to the plot, character building and magical affinities.

The book is so wholesome in that it has folklore lyrics and here is a part that is just written so beautifully:
"Dance with me, dance with me,
Amidst the tumbling flakes,
The winters are a melody.
It called me to the mountains,
I ran far away."

One of my favourite thing about this book is that Marissa took the time to not only add a map, but also a list of all the realms, the name of the characters and a few drawings of the characters. I loved this book and it was so wholesome BUT still filled with so many twists that you dont see coming!

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Fantasy! It has a bit of cozy fantasy in it, found family vibes (& actual family as well!) and a smudge of romance that is delivered in the right time and pace (slow burning for sure!)

Here are some of my favourite quotes:
"Something in the quiet was almost more unsettling, and the feeling of squandering the allotted elongated time before the other shoe inevitably dropped with my ineptitude was eating me alive."

"I cried the tears of heartbreak overflowing into the frost, and wondered if I'd ever be whole again. I hated every drop of emotion surging through me, and even more so, I hated the irrepressible need for releasing it despite my head commanding me to keep it all contained and properly managed."

Thank you to Marissa for this eArc in exchange for my honest review.

I need to start off by saying this is an impeccably written novel. While a little lengthy at 620 pages, no word written was without purpose or intent on truly telling the story of the Zdraevit dynasty.

Sorrel, our middle sister and narrator of the book, is the sensible sister who just wants to help her father run the country in the only way she knows possible; protecting her people. Wielders, people with magical affinities, have been threatening the Zdraevit family for their entire lives and Sorrel has been taught to fear them. Until she finds out some secrets about her bloodline that causes her to question everything she’s ever been taught.

This book has a true beginning, middle and end- so many unexpected twists (although some I secretly hoped for) and it gives a great base to the story of Sorrel and her family as I’m assuming there will be a second book to this story. If you like historical fiction embedded in fantasy, this is truly the book for you. I have read lots of debut novels and I have not found one I love quite as much as Beneath the Scarlet Frost.

Thank you to Marissa for sending me a copy to read and formulate my own opinions based off of! I truly appreciate you trusting me with my opinion of your work.

Beneath the Scarlet Frost is an epic fantasy filled with adventure and unique elemental magic with more emphasis on the theme of the book.

The tale is told from the point of view of Sorrell, the second eldest sister of the royal family. Throughout the story, we follow her relations with her family, her friends, and the kingdom she lives in. Her story is one of lost and found, of love and loss, and of family bonds.

Each character is remarkable and brings its own vibe to the scene, yet they fit perfectly together. The novel develops slowly but surely, it's very easy to feel invested in it from the very first chapter. The side characters were just as charming as the leads.

The intricate world-building is rich and unique, with the addition of Marissa's writing style and use of words the scenes breathed life. The descriptions with the tone used were enough to paint vivid scenes while reading.

The plot doesn't focus on romance but there's a sweet romance taking place. The characters are inspired by the Romanov family which is an interesting story enough in itself, and then add a world of magic and secrets and Russian lore it's evident by the research that Marissa conducted. I'm entirely foreign to the inspiration basis of the Romanovs, but this fantasy stood perfectly on its own. It was such a refreshing read for me which focused on the theme instead of the plot and it felt like the plot conveyed the theme itself through Sorrel's thoughts. A saga of self-discovery, of breaking old rules and beliefs, making out of the old and gripping orthodox traditions, and making new ones with her own values at its core.

The war between the humans and the Wielders is intricately entangled with deception and treachery, upending all that Sorrel had come to believe. I applaud Marissa for the connection that she was able to build between the reader and her characters had me feel every emotion along with them. I completed the book in three sittings, the book is hefty (600+ pages), also the interior design of the book was *Chef's Kisses*.

Overall, this book was a great starter for a series and I highly recommend it, so we will have more magic coming our way with the rest of the books!

**A special thanks to Marissa who considered sending me the PDF of the ARC for FREE which she gave to her readers despite coming late to the party, I contacted her through DMs after the release of her book requesting a copy, and I had zero hopes of getting the copy and she was genuine enough to honor me! All the views and opinions are mine and voluntary and aren't influenced by any factors.**

I have been fortunate enough to have been an ARC team member for Beneath the Scarlet Frost, & let me tell you it’s been a WILD ride for me!!

Throughout this enthralling journey of the Zdraevit family, I became engulfed with the characters. They are all so unique but yet they all fit together so seamlessly perfect to coat the true family & sibling bond.

We find ourselves from the point of view of the second eldest sister, Sorrel. We first meet Sorrel at a young age when fleeing for their lives from evil wielders that have only the desire to harm her whole family.

There’s only 2 types of people in this world. Humans and Wielders. Wielders have always been considered evil & that warranted either the death penalty or exile.

We follow Sorrel’s journey of self-discovery with not only her moral compass but of her faith as well. Everything she has been taught to believe in becomes corrupted… even the promises from people who she thought were practically family.

This is definitely a MUST READ!! Put it on your TBR list! This NEEDS to be a movie in my opinion!! It’s so good!!

This book deals with the following content:
Violence
Some Sexual Content
Murder
Trapped in Fire
Blood
Death
War
Corruption
•Please read with this in mind if any of these topic are sensitive for you•

Oh my lord this book. I LOVED it!

If you loved the BBC series, Downton Abby; if you’ve ever been obsessed with Anastasia and the history of the Romanov family; then you NEED to pick this up. The magical Russian Downton Abby vibes are amazing… and also terrifying. If you’re familiar with either… you’d understand why I say that. If not.. uhhh… just have boxes of tissues and an emotional support water bottle on standby.

Miller’s writing is spectacular. She’s created a world similar to ours in the early 1900s, but also twisted it with a vibrant and unique magic system. Through her exquisite storytelling, she doesn’t shy away from delving into the harder socio-political topics such as discrimination and privilege.

This book was incredibly hard to put down. It’s a thicc girl, clocking in at over 600 pages, but it never felt like a long book. The story is absolutely riveting, full of action, betrayals, discoveries, secrets, and more. The characters are passionately written with engaging story arcs.

I absolutely loved loved LOVED this book and HIGHLY recommend it. Seriously. It’s out now and you should read it!

Thank you so much for allowing me to ARC read this amazing book! I’m already dying for the next!

Book review:

This is an atmospheric, dark, high fantasy story infused with magic and inspired by Russian history. The Zdraevit family rules over the kingdom Eisa and is descended from a line that purged Wielders, or magic users, from their kingdom. The family must face growing threats when Wielders are found in Eisa and war is brought to their very doorstep.

Fulfilling royal duties in Tuyet along with the rest of the imperial family, Princess Sorrel is confronted with uncomfortable truths that threaten to shake the very foundations of everything she has ever known. Sorrel learns about the growing suffering of her subjects, and with Eisa dragged into a war, she takes on additional duties as a nurse. Desperate to help her subjects and her family, she vows to protect those she loves from evil and harm. Sorrel uncovers secrets about her family and herself that have her questioning whom to trust and what to do. Then an act of ultimate betrayal threatens the safety of the Zdraevit line and those most vulnerable in Eisa.

The book does delve deeply into complex world building and character development, but concludes with intense action, and a series of shocking twists and turns. There is unique elemental magic, strong family bonds, and a budding romantic relationship.

Read this if you enjoy:

Russian history
Political and religious intrigue
Family
Elemental magic
High fantasy
Romance
Betrayal, loyalty, duty, and secrets

ARC read review for Beneath the Scarlet Frost by Marissa Miller:

I am going to start by saying this is in my top 3 reads of 2023, hands down.

This book is beautifully written and pulls you in right from the start. It is a high fantasy novel with politics, magic, love and more.

There are humans and there are Wielders. Wielders hold their own unique powers but have been persecuted, hunted, pushed from their homes or worse by the majority of humans.

The Zdraevits are the Imperial family and have ruled over their kingdom for generations and each generation has worked to purge the “evil” Wielders from the land.

But there is unrest in the kingdom and surrounding areas and it is brought right to their doorsteps. War has begun. Sympathizers are rising up and the Wielders aren’t staying in hiding anymore.

Our MFC Sorrel, the daughter of the Imperial King, does what she can to help her people. She isn’t one to stand idly by and do nothing while the people in her country are hurting. But now that she’s out of her palace and working hands on with the people she is starting to see things differently and begins to question everything she’s been taught and told.

The story is a ride. There are ups and downs that will have you sitting on the edge of seat with anxiety, excitement, giddiness and even tears.

Marissa has written the characters so well that you connect with them all on a deep individual level. Especially Sorrel, who you follow on her journey of growth, self discovery, love, heartbreak and more.

In addition, this book was inspired by the Romanov family. So if you appreciate Russian history I think you will enjoy this book even more.

This book has everything:
Politics
World building
Magic
Religious figures
Close family bonds
Fantasy
Romance
Historical inspiration
Betrayal
Love
Loss
Deep secrets
And so much more.

I highly recommend this read. I feel privileged to have been able to be an arc reader of this book and to be apart of Marissa’s team to share this story with everyone.
It releases November 14th and you should definitely add it to your TBR.

(Also, the design of the book is stunning and perfectly matches the overall aesthetic of the book. Even the pages themselves. It was designed thoughtfully and I think that makes it even more special. So I highly recommend snagging a physical copy to add to your shelves).

This book has destroyed me. If you are looking for a light-hearted read, perhaps a story based on the story of the Romanov family is not for you. However, if you are looking to be immersed in a world so deeply constructed it feels real, with well-developed characters, and unique fantasy elements, then proceed.

It is rare for me to read a 600 page book. Having done so with this, I can confidently state that 600 pages was NOT ENOUGH time spent with the characters, in this world. The world is so carefully constructed that there are no visible seams. You are immediately launched in, while the backdrop fades in naturally. There is minimal exposition. It is an immediate escape.

If you are also a naturally inquisitive person who tends to want to "solve" the mystery I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find that while this story is based in real events, it has twists and turns that I did not see coming. At times, the focus is so deeply on the characters at an intrinsic and relational level that you'll be so enraptured you won't even see the rug about to be pulled out beneath you.

Look, I'm getting heavy handed with the metaphors. I love a fun, light-hearted read as much as the next gal, but sometimes you throw your heart into a blender and still somehow come back begging for more. This is the situation with Beneath the Scarlet Frost. My understanding is that this is the first in a series and I have never felt more impatient at the need for a follow-up, immediately, like, right now.

And also - I did laugh out loud at one point or two, so it isn't all gloom. But still, this is a deeply affecting, emotional, and powerful ride.

Read slowly, read carefully, and read with an open heart. This book will alter you.

Have you noticed the cat reaction images get less serious as this review goes on? That's right, it's called a coping mechanism.

Awaken me when book two comes out.

I was so incredibly honored to be a member of the street team and ARC reader for @marissamillerauthor incredible first book of her new series! The opinions of this book are completely my own.

Read more indie authors, y'all. This book was amazing. 600+ pages, and I tore through it in less than 2 days because I was so attached to the characters and invested in their well-being. The one more chapter club was real with this book.

If you've loved the Anastasia movie since you were a child like me, then this book will capture your attention in a vice grip.

Set in a fantasy world where magic wielding is forbidden, and wielders are sentenced to death for simply existing.

The ruling family has been in place for centuries, given the honor by Divine right. And this family is rather different than your normal aristocracy in every single way.

Sorrel, our MC, is a wonderful combination of intense compassion and burning with rage. I could easily spend hundreds more pages justifying her emotions with her. Roland... oh, sweet, sweet Roland. No spoilers here, but that man had me deep in my feels for several chapters. And Rafe! He's easily my favorite of the side characters in the story, and I can not wait for what the adventures of their little squad take them in the rest of the story.

Key aspects:
🩸Moral ambiguity
❄️ Searching for truth
🩸World at war
❄️Royal life
🩸Political intrigue
❄️Magic vs mortal
🩸Emotional read
❄️Unique world-building and magic system
🩸Inspiration from the Romanovs
❄️Dynamic characters you'll love, hate, swoon over, and/or cry for

This book has my heart! On top of an amazing story the pages of this book are gorgeous! This is one of those books that I need to have a physical copy of!
The author did a wonderful job of making me forget I was reading a book because I was so immersed in the story and the detail was remarkable.
The world building starts on page one and has the perfect pacing. The magic system is so different and wonderful.
One of my favorite parts of this story was the Romanov inspiration. I have been fascinated by the Romanov family since high school thanks to my best friend. I loved the family dynamic. The sisters especially have a close bond that reminded me of little women.
The FMC Sorrel is compassionate and headstrong. She loves her people and wants to help anyway she can. She is not the type of princess to sit on the sidelines, she wants to be in the thick of it.
War between wielders and mortals is on the kingdom of Eisa's doorstep as Sorrel discovers where her moral compass and faith lie, and everything she believes turns on its head.
Grab your cozy blanket, some tissues, your favorite drink and dive into the wonderful world Marissa Miller has created.

This book has everything! It’s one of the best new fantasy novels I’ve read this year and it should 100% be on any fantasy lovers reading list!

As someone with a deep love for the story of Anastasia this book intrigued me from the start. It’s not a direct retelling and Sorrel (the main character) is based on the second oldest Romanov daughter Tatiana. Miller does an incredible job with her world building and character development. There’s is so much depth, detail, and beauty to this book not just in the writing but the physical book itself. The book, while long, flew by as I was reading it and I when I was done I wanted to stay in the world just a little bit longer.

So much about this book is unique; the magic system is different than any I’ve seen elsewhere, and the focus on family loyalty as a central theme is refreshing. While reading this book I laughed and cried (definitely have tissues ready) and I’m so excited to see where Miller takes this series from here!

If you’re like me you don’t want to know much about a book before reading it. So I’ll try my best to give minimal details and still give you my honest opinion.

The story is narrated from the point of view of Sorrell, the second eldest sister in the Zdraevit family. Throughout the story we follow her endeavours with her family, her friends and the kingdom she lives in. Her story is one of lost and found, of love and loss and of family bonds. A story of self-discovery, of breaking old rules and beliefs, and making new ones with her own values at its core.

Each character is unique and brings its own scent to the scene, yet they match perfectly together. The story develops slowly but surely, it’s very easy to feel invested in it from the very first chapter. For me it was a book I didn’t want to put down, but that I enjoyed so much I didn’t want to finish.

The intricate world building is rich and unique, and of course magical. The story has a series of twists that would leave you shocked (and I dare to say betrayed). I’d gather some tissues just in case!

I gave this book 5 stars because it has everything I like in a fantasy book. I received the eARC in exchange of my honest review. However I’ll buy my own physical copy, and it’s highly likely I’ll re-read the book again soon.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 (rounded up for Goodreads)
Romance level: 🔥🔥 (mostly innocent, a little steamy

This book read like a grim fairy tale in a fantasy world and I loved that about it. I thought the plot was pretty well-paced, engaging, and gripping towards the end and the overall writing was strong and really vivid in places. I also got RPG vibes from the character names for some reason? “Roland” especially 🤌🏼 The magic system was quite simple and convenient but was still fun to learn about and visualize.

The characters just brought this book down, unfortunately. The FMC was the BIGGEST Mary Sue I’ve read in a while and it made her very difficult to connect with or care about. Most of the other characters felt overly idealistic as well. Some characters, like Roland’s brother, also felt a little cartoon-ish. I enjoyed the book overall, but I’m unsure whether I’m invested enough in the characters to continue the series!

A book of dark political intrigue and pure magic!

Beneath The Scarlet Frost follows the second eldest sister, Sorrel, in the imperial family. A family known and celebrated for cleansing the country from wielder magic. When revolts spark the city, chaos flames with it. Magic still exists in Eisa’s walls, and the imperial family does their best to maintain the divide, growing it to remind their people of the alien and grotesque curses wielders have left on them. Hoping to separate monster from human, Sorrel discovers the truth about her family and that the line between both isn’t as solid and dug clean as she once believed.

Miller has woven magic in such a unique and fresh way. A step away from common tropes and worlds, this book is crafted to stand tall in the shadows as a hidden gem you can’t help but be proud you found (I say “shadows” because this book’s atmosphere is deliciously dark).

Inspired by the Romanov family, BTSF has layers of magic and world building that pulls you into the plot. The elements braid together with the political strife and bursts of action, supporting it, but also sprinkles just enough detail to keep you wanting more.

Because this is book one, we haven’t explored the vast world building completely, but how the author sets the stage up by the end of the book has you curious to know what is out there now that eyes have been opened.

Seriously, the magic in this novel… I was excited to find something refreshing. There’s twists on the common elements (fire, ice, shadow, etc.) and backstories to each that make you want to steal a peek at the author’s notes. I’m excited to see how this world grows and will be reading book two when it releases!

Review:

The world building in this one is out of this world. I was captured right from the very start, literally, the post I saw on Instagram caught my eye and that was it for me- I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this, and I have never been so excited to read something as I was this one.

This is book 1 in a series that I will absolutely be following along with. I can’t wait to read more!

If you are a fan of dark fantasy, magic, and Russian history (Romanov inspired), then this one's for you!

Also, it’s the Snowdrop for me.

I have received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

OH MY GOODNESS you guys. This is the very first book to make me cry more than once. It was so very emotional and so so so so so good.

I love love love the storyline. The Zdraevit family has definitely made it into my top 2 favorite bookish families. I loved the characters so much.

This story is told from the POV of Sorrel who is the second oldest of the children. I loved following Sorrels journey so much. She is amazing and tbh I love her so much.

From page one this book captured me and when I tell you I DEVOURED IT. This book has not gotten the hype it deserves so please please please pick this up. Add it to your TBR because this is by far one of my absolute favorite reads of the year.

I’d also highly recommend ordering the physical copy because not only is this cover beautiful the inside of the book is beautiful as well. I can tell Miller went all out with this and she deserves HELLA LOVE for this book. This is one of those books I will reread over and over again. I actually even ordered a physical copy to go back and reread and annotate it because it is that beautiful.

I had such an amazing reading experience with this book! This is a high literary fantasy that focuses on the war brewing between Wielders of magic and mortals. The author writes in a way that transports the reader to another world full of magic and conflict. The grand imperial family of Eisa is loosely inspired by the Romanov family and I loved this new take on them. My favorite part of the book is actually the challenging of a religious belief system that is based on fearing Wielders and the desire to eradicate them. Sorrel, a long time believer, is forced to re-examine her own prejudices against the Wielders as the plot unfolds. Her character development throughout the book has been emotional and heartfelt as she navigates through the shock of learning about her true nature. The twists and turns had me wanting to read through to the end and still wanting more. Beneath the Scarlet Frost has the beginnings of a great adventure and I look forward to seeing how Sorrel continues to deal with the onslaught and consequences of this war!

Thank you to the author for the e-arc to read and review.

This is one of those books that you'll just never forget. Not only is the premise compelling, but it's incredibly well written and thought through. It's such a heart wrenching story, with characters and circumstances that grip you. It's a hybrid of historical fiction and fantasy - my new absolute favorite genre.

This is the first title l've read by Marissa Miller, but certainly won't be the last. The narration was perfect - the distinction between characters was evident, but not overly done.
Immersive but not distracting. Simply fantastic storytelling from both Marissa Miller and Cheryl-Annette Parker.

I'd like to thank Audible and Cheryl for the opportunity to listen to and review this book. It was truly a gift.

I just finished this book, and wow! The writing was excellent. I couldn't put this book down.

Magic welders are being hunted because magic is seen as a plague, so they went into hiding. Recently, they have resurfaced. Sorrel Zdraevit, the second oldest princess for the empire of Eisa, wants to protect her family at all costs. Lie and secrets become revealed, and she has to figure out who to trust while trying to keep her will to live.

The book was amazing. It definitely is in the top books for me this year. Miller included so many twists I didn't see coming. She made me hate or love all her characters. She was able to include details to make the scenery come alive. With the cliffhanger, it leaves you to immediately want to jump the next one! I'm so excited for the next book and come out.

I was given this ARC for my honest review.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Sorrel’s family has been reigning over Eisa for centuries and keeping their people safe from the dangerous and corrupt Wielders. When Eisa is thrown into a war, Sorrel is anxious to find ways to play her part and serve the country she loves. But in doing so she is introduced to a world that she’s never known before. And it makes her question everything she believes.

This was such a good book. It is inspired by the Romonav family, which is an interesting story enough in itself, and then set it in a world of magic and add a bunch of secrets. There were so many twists and turns and I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

It’s hard to give my full thoughts without giving spoilers, so instead I will just say that if you like fantasy, Royal politics, family secrets, and slow burn romances then you should give this book a try!

I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I received an ARC of this book, thanks to Marissa Miller and R&R Book Tours. This review is voluntary and my honest opinion

Arc Review***
HIGHLY RECOMMEND💯

Started slow, which i generally expect with fantasy, but by about halfway through I was Completely sucked in & wouldn't have been able to put it down if my life depended on it!

The first half really let's you develop a deep emotional connection to each of the characters, while the second half is reserved for soul shredding agony and betrayal.

Got to give the author some serious props for the ending I NEVER saw coming!! I have so many feelings I don't know what to do with myself now, but I am absolutely CRAVING book 2 in the
worst/best way😆😭 I can't express enough the emotional turmoil I'm in right now..that sh** was CRAZY!!!

ARC review! As a member of the royal family, you was always told that magic was bad, to always get rid of those with magic, and those who sympathize with the Magic wielders. Growing up destruction was made due to the fact that Magic wielders were killed or harmed, then one night you find out that you have magic. No, your entire family has magic. What do you do when you were always told, “the right thing is to follow the path laid out for us and to do our duty.” But at what cost will you do such? Are you going to continue down the path and kill those you are alike or will you fight for the magic that is inside of you?

This book was a trip. Lots of twists and turns and gasping moments a little emotional somewhere in the middle a little bit of Romance in there, slow soft burn Romance. Definitely a long book but it was good but how can you end it the way you ended it? I gave this book 4, amazing. Just amazing read it if you’d like.
