This volume covers chapters 74-115 of the web novel and covers | Read on Tapas.
I really like this series. I've recently tried reading another K-pop-centered Korean web novel, and as I was reading, I suddenly realized why Debut or Die is so good, especially if you're a fan of real-life K-pop. Unlike many other web novels set in the industry, Debut or Die is extremely vivid. It sets an intricate picture in your head not only of the fact they're idols but also of what they produce and how people react to it. It doesn't tell you "They made a good MV" or "Public opinions were for/against them." It shows you. I have never in my life wanted to be able to experience something in a novel as much as I want to watch their performances.
Honestly, Moondae has my heart, but so do the other members. I really want them to succeed in this harsh industry. And they're not even real, lol.
Also, I still desperately want to see through the other member's eyes how they perceive Moondae. Like, we all know they don't think he's an average guy--more like a genius born for the stage--but I'd love to exactly how they see this outwardly cold and uncaring man who does literally SO MUCH for them. Like, I need to know!!
The first thing I ever heard about this series was someone saying Cheongryeo was their sleep paralysis demon and thanks to them, now he is also mine 😔 The plot twists and reveals in this volume were so good, I had to add an extra star just for the end of 115 alone because I said there needed to be something dramatic at the end of the volume and it delivered. I also just really liked the visuals for the comeback in this volume.
The plot is really picking up the pace in this volume, although I maintain that there are too many times when a problem arises and gets wrapped up within like two or three chapters which is just too quick - the author seems resistant to having issues continue in the background of the plot and instead puts them on a shelf neatly, and occasionally pulls one back out with no warning when they need more controversy.
I'm not sure if the translation has improved overall or I've just grown used to the writing style but I don't mind it so much now, the flat affect actually really suits Gunwoo/Moondae's character voice.
