Our marriage is fake. But our feelings are dangerously real…

Marrying playboy billionaire Darren Walker was only ever supposed to be a business deal.

If only it were that easy.

I’m finding it far too comfortable living in Darren’s world, and I never predicted I’d find real meaning in the charity I’m involved with while I pretend to be the perfect wife.

The worst thing is, I’m scared Darren’s feelings for me are becoming real, too.

But a woman with a past like mine doesn’t belong in a world like his. Especially because I thought my heart belonged to someone else before we were married. Someone much too close to him.

When Darren decides to leave his playboy ways behind and follow in his father’s footsteps, I must face reality. A marriage like ours won’t last forever.

Not when my former life has the power to come back to haunt me. There’s no way Darren’s reputation will survive the scandal of being married to a former escort.

And if I let myself get any deeper, neither will my heart…

Queen of Ruin is the second book in The Kingmaker trilogy, a steamy marriage of convenience romance full of political scandal. The books must be read in order for the best reader experience.

This is book two in the King series. It is the continuing story of Darren and Evangeline. Book two goes more in depth into their lives, and it is so much better than book one. They love, they fight, and they struggle with all the emotions that come with it. The cliffhanger has me screaming for the next book. It will make you laugh, tick you off, and even make you cry. It is a must-read!!

Not So Patiently Waiting for Book 3!

Can I just start off saying I'm loving these books! I was worried I wouldn't love the story as much because, Jack and the boys are part of my heart, but I was wrong. WRONG. I can’t get enough of this story so while I can't wait for the last book, I also don't want the story to end.

Darren and Evangeline are perfect for one another. I love who fiercely protective of her Darren is. The storyline had me from the very start and hasn’t let me go. The heat is spot on and the emotions it will illicit run the full spectrum. Loved this book!

Ranking: 4.5⭐

⚠️May contain spoilers for the first book⚠️

This trilogy is getting better with each book and I'm loving Darren & Evangeline more and more! Furthermore, with this book we know a different side of both characters, there are more secondary characters and Alastair is the funniest and most absurd in the world, again.

One of the things I loved reading the most was Darren's growth, his change in mentality and the maturity with which he chooses to face his feelings for Evan, for the loss of his parents and his future. And even though it's a little harder to see, I think Evangeline also matures a little in this new book letting Darren get to know her a little better, especially her family situation, which brought them together a little more. Another thing I loved was that in this book Paula gives us many more tender, sweet and adorable moments between both characters and makes their feelings for each other even more obvious.

The ending was another thing that I really liked, although I saw it coming, I loved how the author wrote it and reading a little from the perspective of both characters.

Paula Dombrowiak is an author who always surprises me and she's setting the the bar high in her angsty Kingmaker series. The dizzying web of secrets and intrigue-political and personal- are building. Queen of Ruin picks up where the explosive first book, King of Nothing, left off. After the marriage of convenience that changed her fate from professional escort to privileged wife of a billionaire, things are heating up in Evangeline and Darren's relationship. With developing feelings neither expected to have, fake or not, hot is hot and their situation is getting very spicy indeed.

Darren's misspent youth left him with lost potential and no future plans. The legacy his family left behind gives him plenty to think about- can he make a difference, but do it his own way? Darren coming into his own showed a new maturity for him and the possibility of second chance to get it right. He has a plan, and with Evangeline by his side, he thinks it can happen. He wants her opinions and maybe her heart, but she is carefully wary. Her usual jaded mask is slipping, letting her sweeter side out to play from time to time, but trusting in someone other than herself is hard for her to do. Darren has deep roots in this town, so finding her own role is something she needs for herself. Will the movers and shakers welcome her into the fold?.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of Evangeline and Darren's emotional journey in the third and final book, State of Union. Hopefully more of Alistair and Cleo too. They added a bit of fun, levity and friendship points to this second book. I'll stay up all night to dig into this juicy story, because after the cliffie at the end of Queen of Ruin, I'm going need to know how all the little plots and twists get resolved for the happy ending I want this couple to finally have. Expecting some fireworks along the way!

I was given an early copy of this book to read and review. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given.

WOW!!! Another emotional rollercoaster ride in this intense journey that Darren and Evangeline are taking us on. We start right back where that last cliffhanger left us with Darren and Evangeline’s emotions at an all-time high and neither one of them knowing where to go after that. Things were definitely intense and feelings were definitely hurt.

I loved that Darren and Evangeline started to let their walls down and share some hard truths with each other. It showed how much growth they continue to go through as a couple. Darren is really turning into a sweet and loving man, but he still has his nasty moments.

I continue to love the banter between them and all their intimate and spicy moments. Darren is filthy when he wants to be, and Evangeline knows just how to get him all worked up to the point where he must do something!!

You can definitely feel that something strong is building between them and that the lines of fake and real are starting to blur.

There is a lot of drama, secrets, corruption, wickedness, and plot twists that continually happen and are still happening, and the way this one ends in another cliffhanger, means that there is more devastation to come before any kind of happy ending can happen.

I can’t wait to see how it all plays out in the end.

This is the second book of a trilogy that delivers on intrigue, suspense and an unexpected love match. In this book, Darren and Evangeline are no longer constantly at odds. They begin to see a different aspect of each other, a more authentic one. They have a real connection and real feelings for each other. Darren finally makes a decision for his future career path. He is going to try to follow in his father’s political footsteps. In the world of politics, greed, corruption and ambition abound. Rumours and secrets are exposed and used as leverage for extortion and blackmail. Therein lies the reason for Evangeline’s decision……a decision they may leave two hearts broken. This book ends in another cliffhanger, leaving one eagerly awaiting the next book.

This couple has touched my heart and I am invested in discovering what happens next. I couldn’t put this book down until I had finished the last sentence. I really enjoyed seeing their connection and feelings for each other grow. Alistair, who plays the clown or buffoon rather well, needs to get a story of his own with a woman who will rock his world and whip him into shape. This book and King of Nothing have been well worth reading and I would happily recommend them.

Leave it to Ms. Dombrowiak to have her readers riding a rollercoaster of emotions. From the cliffhanger in book one to the cliffhanger in this book, she pulls us in thinking her MCs are ready to battle it out, but are they? When a billionaire playboy, Darren, marries an escort, Evangeline, you would expect some secrets to be kept but when those secrets include your father, your mind starts to go in circles.
Darren learns about the relationship between his father, a politician, and his wife Evan, he does not take it well. The lack of communication and the anger that he felt led to words being said that he could never take back. Is their fake marriage just that or when they actually communicate about Evan's past, do true feelings come to the surface?
This book is full of angst, terrific banter, lust, action and a love that may have started as a ruse just maybe it wasn't. The storyline is entertaining, addictive, riveting and one that is impossible to put down. The cliffhanger at the end of this book had my head spinning and my jaw hitting the floor. Although I understood why she did what she did, I was still surprised. I can't wait for State of Union, the conclusion of this must-read trilogy.

I really do feel like I was just taken on the ride of my life and completely blown away in all the best ways . I felt it all Speechless, Yelling outta pure frustration, Smiling, laughing, crying like a baby and rooting so freaking hard . Beware though we are once again left anxiously anticipating what comes next , because yes it does end with a huge cliffhanger.

As stated in my previous review for book 1, King Of Nothing. My rating will be a little down because I don't know what the story will end like. So, at the end, I will come back and add an edit as to what my full opinion is of this trilogy as a whole.

This book started as the previous one left off. There was no pause, no breather. It just went straight into the fun and games that were being played. Although Darren and Evangeline were a convenience at the start, you see throughout this book a bond that almost happens instantly. The chemistry is fire, and the angst grows but becomes less if that makes any sense.

Again, I have to remain tight-lipped, but I think that's a given. Its gripping, has great banter, and the characters have grown on me and rhats all of them, eventhw nasty ones. There is a secret to be revealed in this book, and I'm hoping it's what I think it is. The story is gripping, and I'm dying for the finale. This book is a huge recommend from me, and I know this trilogy will be fantastic when it's done.

Evangeline and Dare swept right in and took readers deeper into their hold in the second book in the Kingmaker Trilogy, Queen of Ruin. As this pair's relationship set roots, the intensity and frenzy of their emotional turmoil built up for its inevitable day of reckoning. This couple's stepping out of their accepted roles in society to embrace their attraction and growing feelings was unique and compelling. Personal grudges took on calculating roles and kept the suspense high in this work. This was a book that was crafted with care and wide spanning perspectives.

Paula Dombrowiak is an author who is making a name for herself with books that are complex, sophisticated and just so good. The intimacy of her writing is captivating in its brutality, her portrayals always leave their mark. Queen of Ruin was worth the wait building on this fabulous series for its much anticipated conclusion!

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*The previous book in this trilogy and needs to be read as part of three for the complete story*

When the second book leaves you NEEDING the third ......Yes this one is just as good as the first and I personally NEED, not just want to get my hands on the next and last book in this trilogy. Evangeline and Darren's relationship grows so much more depth and understanding of one another, but with that all their secrets must come to the surface. Sometimes when those secrets that we hold come out they can destroy everything. Is their attraction and maybe, can I say it....love for one another be strong enough to endure all they really are. A rebellious son of a Senator find himself and his purpose all while making his "fake" marriage to a hooker work? Can Evangeline come to terms with her true feelings, and do what is best for Darren's future? Even if that means she has to walk away from the only person on this earth left that truly cares, loves and would do anything for her? Find out in this second book of Evangeline's and Darren's story, it will also leave you needing to know how it all will end.

I thoroughly enjoyed book two of this trilogy. I really liked how Darren and Evangeline’s characters developed – each of them driven by their pasts. Darren is so much more than the playboy that he is known as, seeing him find his passion and start to plan for his future had me cheering him on. Evangeline settled into Darren’s world surprisingly well and found something that fueled her passion. I loved how their relationship grew, their banter, and their passion for each other. Even though I sensed how pasts lives could impact the future, I wasn’t ready for it, I wanted to throw my kindle across the room! I’m eagerly anticipating book three. This book is well-written – with a plot that incorporates past and present, as well as artfully interspersed snippets of Emerson poems. It depicts a political world that survives on money, lies, and whether you fit in or not. It is a gripping tale that kept me engaged from start to finish. This trilogy is a must TBR!! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

“Queen of Ruin” is the second book in Paula Dombrowiak’s Kingmaker Trilogy, and it’s the continuation of Darren and Evangeline’s billionaire marriage of convenience love story.

Paula Dombrowiak’s writing style is absolutely brilliant; I always get immediately sucked in whenever I read one of her books, and “Queen of Ruin” was no exception.

I do have a lot of complicated feelings about Darren and Evangeline’s relationship, but the one thing I can say about them is that they truly care about each other, even if Evangeline isn’t ready to admitl it yet.

I was really excited to see the way Darren and Evangeline’s relationship developed over the course of this second book, because I could really see the growth.

The ending, on the other hand, made me want to throw my kindle at the wall, so I’m eagerly awaiting the conclusion to this fantastic trilogy! I highly recommend this to any fans of the marriage of convenience trope!

This is the second book in this amazing trilogy, and Darren and Evangeline’s journey continues straight on from the cliffhanger in #1.
Darren is a playboy billionaire, while Evangeline is a former escort, who is haunted by her past. These two may be in a fake marriage, but what will happen when feeling turn into more?
This is a well written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, a marriage of convenience, loyalty, secrets, scandal, obligations, reformed playboy, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining, unpredictable, and steamy political romance, which ends in a whammy of a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to read the conclusion on this phenomenal trilogy.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

She doesn’t want to be his ruin but he doesn’t care, he just wants her beside him. Gahhh! I love this book so much! Book 1 was amazing but then I read book 2 and is even more amazing. The cliffhanger killed me, broke me, that’s for sure. But the story, the whole story was amazing. Darren and Evangeline are so perfect together, total opposite but so good together. I definitely love Darren, he is wonderful. And it was amazing how Paula added all this information, museums, politics and keeps the story going and interesting. Nothing boring. Making History S€x¥. And Rausch… I’m getting the feeling that he has some secrets… I need to know them hahaha I can’t wait to read book 3 to know more and finally read their HEA!!!! Please, I need them full happy.

Book 2 did not disappoint! I loved it even more than book 1.

Evangeline and Darren sizzled together, but it was more than just the physical connection, mentally they just got each other. Darren really is maturing in this book and becoming such a likeable character. You can see the changes in him and his determination up to and be better. Evangeline needs to believe in herself more and trust in their connection. Alastair is also amazing, I hope we get his story soon.

Brilliant writing as you would expect from Paula, the story grabs your attention from the outset. The more I read the more I want! This book finished with a bit of a cliffhanger and I really really can’t wait for book 3 to see where this story takes us.

Queen of Ruin is the second book in the Kingmaker Series.

Boy, is this a great series so far. We pick up almost exactly where we left off in the first book. We just jump right in there.

Evangeline is a self sacrificing person. She really does want the best for Darren. These two had such great chemistry with each other. In this book we get to delve more into their relationship with each other and see it grow to become something really strong. We get to see more into the thoughts and cares of Darren and we get to see a great character arc with him. He starts to take life a bit more seriously and I liked seeing this side of him.

I can't wait to read the epic conclusion of the love story between Darren and Evangeline.

Oooh, my heart is aching for Darren. I have grown quite fond of him!

Queen Of Ruin is book 2 in The Kingmaker series. This is another quick read that I polished off in a day. I love these books. It is a politicalish drama with some low-key spice and an epic love story underneath.

This second book was a build-up for their love story and subsequent cliffhanger. I am rooting for Darren and Evangeline and hoping she comes to her senses! He's so confident in their relationship by the end and she scared to death for many reasons but I have confidence that she will wake and realize what a keeper she has.
Darren's best friend Alistair is a hoot and would love to read more of his story. So now I wait for book 3!

Queen of Ruin picks up right where King of Nothing left off and took me on an emotional rollercoaster yet again. I love that Darren matures in this book and begins coming into his own. It's a nicely written transformation for him. Evangeline is there encouraging him all the way. Together, they grew as a couple and individually. But of course, the drama never rests, and just like one of the last chapters of the book is titled, I was definitely gut punched. I had my assumptions on what the cliffhanger would be, but I wasn't expecting what happened. I can't wait to see how the final book unfolds!!!

Wow. I thought King of Nothing was a good book. But Queen of Ruin? Amazing! This is the second book in the Kingmaker Trilogy. It picks up where King of Nothing leaves off. Being the second in the series, there is less spice than the first book, but so much more depth and emotional connection. Darren and Evangeline are both working through their shared grief plus the revelations that were brought to light at the end of King of Nothing. As much as I loved Evangeline in King of Nothing, Darren holds my heart in Queen of Ruin. His character arc alone is a reason to read this one, on top of every other beautiful word in this story. Definitely a must-read!

This is book two in the Kingmaker Trilogy. It continues where King of Nothing ends. In addition to processing their mutual loss, Darren and Evangeline are also dealing with the information that was revealed at the conclusion of King of Nothing. What appeared to be a fake marriage soon developed into far more than any of them could have predicted. As Evangeline and Darren's relationship deepens and their awareness of one another increases, all of their secrets will eventually have to come out. Sometimes the secrets we keep might ruin everything when they are revealed. Ends on yet another cliffhanger, leaving you eager for the third volume in the series.

This is the second book in the Kingmaker trilogy. Evangeline's fake marriage to billionaire Darren Walker quickly becomes complicated as genuine feelings develop. The book skillfully combines intense romance and political scandal, leaving readers with a gripping cliffhanger. I was captivated by the character development and emotional depth, particularly Darren’s maturation and Evangeline's struggle with her past. This book is a compelling series continuation, and I eagerly anticipate the final installment.

Paula Dombrowiak's Kingmaker trilogy is brilliant. After finishing book two Queen of Ruin, I am so hooked.
In book two, Evangeline and Darren's relationship, "fake marriage" takes a sharp turn up the heat their feelings for each other manifest themselves. Secrets have been brewing in this intricate story filled with emotions, twists, humor, love, banter and scandal.
Darren p0nders throwing his hat into the political ring...and then comes the massive cliffhanger which left me wanting the final installment Stat. I love this trilogy that Paula has so thoughtfully crafted.

wow

Wow, just wow! This story is like riding a roller coaster, so many ups and downs. Evangeline has done what was necessary to take care of her grandmother, the only person who ever took true care of her. Darren has lived in his father and mother shadow all of his life. Finally when he seems to be getting his life in order, Evangeline hits him between the eyes. They have fallen so deeply for each other, and again she’s trying to do what’s right for him. Can’t wait to see how this turns out… Hurry, please.

OMG, Just OMG is all i have for this series so far. I am beyond obsessed with Evangeline and Darren. These two are such an unlikely pair you cant help but cheer for them.

Book two takes you on another emotional roller coaster ride. The truths that come out for both of them, the love you feel through the pages , the laugh out loud moments and the steam, my god Paula has now changed my view of a certain historical piece of paper lol. Watching these two try and deal with their feelings is something.

This ending will leave you an OH NOO moment. Iam very impatiently waiting for book 3.
