"Ye speak the truth?”"Aye, Father. He is me husband now."Darragh MacDonald is aware of the danger of getting entangled with the enemy. Yet, fate's hand intervenes when, unbeknownst to him, he stumbles upon Lara, the daughter of Laird MacLean and in a reckless act of bravery, he risks it all to save her. Even if he has to face her father's wrath.
Yet, he’s unaware that a sinful lie is the only thread keeping him alive…
Lara has never lied to her father. At least not until she fabricates an audacious story woven from the finest threads of desperation, while trying to save Darragh’s that she’s married to him.
Regrettably this breaks an unspoken oath given a long time ago…
If Darragh and Lara don’t act fast, an unwanted revelation of their false affair might make things far more dangerous than they ever thought possible…

"Our scars, both those we carry on the inside and on the outside, don't define us."
Picked this up on Stuff Your Kindle Day thinking it looked a little like an Outlander vibe - and it both is and isn't.
Darragh isn't quite Jamie, but kind of. He definitely has the Scottish brogue. He's maybe more Highlander than Outlander now that I'm thinking about it. Lara reminds me of any number of regency era heroines falling into some random problem. In addition to her own kidnapping, I think they mention two other kidnappings of other women? I think. It's a lot. But there's a lot more plot than a regency book, that's for sure. We have a very Romeo/Juiet style rivalry between two clans, which is way more interesting than most of the romance books with Scots in it that I've read.
I will say that, for me, reading the Scottish brogue written out that much was eventually so tiring. It's fine hearing it, it's fine when not all of the characters have it. But the entire cast is Scottish here, sometimes it took me a hot mo to figure out what was actually being said. I dunno, maybe that's just me. Also - my kindle edition had full on gaps between the paragraphs like fanfiction style and that was... odd.
But, overall, the vibe definitely delivered what I thought it was going to be, which is literally all I want from any book.
I loved this book! Another thrilling story from Shona, this tale had me hooked from page 1! Lara is kidnapped by another Laird but will find herself rescued by Darragh. Their journey is one filled with bumps and bruises but also laughs and love. In taking her back to her home and family, he will face suspicion and distrust from her father. There is an evil force at work and when all is revealed, Lara’s father will find out just how wrong his distrust of Darragh has been. In the end, the two will find their way to their happily ever after, with the support of both clans, that will end the feud between them.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
"Wicked Kilted Highlander" by Shona Thompson is full of adventure and has a strong theme about the value of family. I liked both of the main characters. Darragh had rescued a young lady from the dungeons of a castle that had changed hands after the previous master had died. Lara had been sitting in the dungeon for about six months, abused by guards and the Laird. Where I got lost in the back story for a while was the WHY she got held and tortured in the first place. The rest of the book was well-written and exciting. Shona Thompson is fast becoming one of my favorite authors, her books are always fun to read. I give this book 4 stars.
Loved the story and the characters, but there were just too many editing errors. Darragh is the brother the laird MacDonald. He is responsible for setting to rights a recently acquired castle when he finds a young woman held captive in the basement. He sets Lara free and promises to return her to her family. He did not know until they arrived that she was the daughter of Laird MacLean, an enemy to the MacDonalds. To keep Darragh safe, she tells her family they are married and she is with child. That sets a series of events in play that make for a good story. My only complaint is there are just too many editing errors.
A warrior tormented by his past Darragh McDonald has taken over the castle of laird McNeil, who abducted his sister in the past. Discovering a secret passage to the dungeons, he saves somebody else’s sister, Lara, weak and emaciated from near starvation. He saves her and decides to reunite her to her family, not expecting the hardships that will follow. What will he do when he discovers that the woman he is falling in love with is none other than the daughter of a family with a feud against his own? I loved the story of a strong warrior, obviously suffering from PTSD, conquering his fears and defending his love against all odds.
Some suspense and little on romance. I just didn't feel a connection to them. Lovemaking outside of marriage heat level 2.5 out of 5.
Lord's name used in vain a couple times. Story ends at 85% on my e-reader, plus you have to download an extended epilogue, which didn't add much to the story. I did like the h's brothers and hope they get their story.
No cheating, standalone story, HEA and some steam. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some extra tidbits to decide to purchase or not. (ljb)
I absolutely loved reading this. I love the continuation of the family. I loved the characters and storyline so much. So much turmoil in this story. Strong strong characters full of emotion and love. Lara surviving such a hardship and finding love. Darragh battling his past and scars to find true love and happiness. On to my next book. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
Another great story from Shona. With a myriad of emotions, this story had it all from kidnapping, fighting for their lives, lying, mystery, falling in love at the darkest times, uniting clans and defeating the enemy. A really enjoyable storyline which kept me interested and wanting more. Loved the characters and would also enjoy reading Elsie, Gil and Quinn’s stories. I definitely recommend reading this story.
This was a ok read for me even though it held my interest, I was left wondering what happened to the McNeil Clan wasn't Darrah suppose to be over it, also just who was Grego Campbell and what made them suspicious of him I thought these were suppose to be main parts of the story that had no conclusion or just left blind. So for me it was just a ok story that started out strong and fizzed out.
I really enjoyed this book. I will say I need to go back and read the first book of the series, as it has been a while. I love Darragh and can't help but feel bad for the never ending distrust shown to him. Definitely will be giving this one a reread after I go back through the prequel.
This book has a lot of action, mis-trust, demons and love! Love a highlanders Scottish book definitely a must read can't wait to read more Highlanders Scottish books from this author. On to the next book.
I loved this story. When two people are brought together and share space, time, and fight side by side means only one thing, they fall in love. Good characters too!
This book has a lot of clan references that are exciting, dangerous and accepting. Lara is an intelligent lass from one clan and Darragh a fierce warrior with a heart is from another. Excellent book and series
The two main characters didn’t seem to have a lot of chemistry between them to make their attraction believable. And my goodness, the father was so annoying. He basically had the same conversations/accusations two separate times with the MMC and that really dragged out the situation.
I liked the twists. The lie the MFC told escalated quickly and I enjoyed seeing how it unfolded. I love me a good forced proximity/fake marriage trope, it gets me every time. But this story seemed very heavily focused on the family, and in my opinion, less on the building romance of the two main characters, which is the reason why I gave it 4 stars.
I also have this side character syndrome, where I often enjoy the hints of the side characters’s lives (sometimes more than the main characters’ story!, haha) - and I am so excited to read the brother’s story, so book 1.
This was an ARC, but I’m giving my honest opinion about the book.
