Death comes for all living things. Well, all except for one.
The soulless witch. The monster. The villain.
Two thousand years ago, Celeste sold her soul for revenge she never got. Now she is doomed to live forever, never finding peace despite being the most powerful witch in the world.
When Celeste is resurrected again, she is prepared to have every witch hunter and supernatural creature in the world hunting her. Nothing new, really, except for the fact that when she wakes, her magic is all but gone.
Caught between a vampire who has been hunting her for centuries and a werewolf who hates her guts, Celeste must survive long enough to reclaim her magic even as unlikely alliances, unexpected betrayals, and secrets both dangerous and forbidden are about to fracture the fragile peace of the supernatural world.
But what is a soulless witch without her magic?
Dangerous, that’s what. Those who have nothing left to lose, have everything to gain.
Dnf 66% as I was reading I got the feeling we started in the middle and I was missing something, when I saw there’s a prequel, Bleeding Love it made more sense. I recommend starting with that! RH with a very old witch, werewolf, vampire, etc and kind of a Sabrina/Clarissa explains it all set up with a human family. worth giving a try if you’re in the mood.
I received this ARC of this book for my opinion here it is: A powerful witch that everyone fears, with a character that in the first pages makes you think that she does not care about others when it is quite the opposite, she says to herself because she has no soul, she is not capable of loving anyone, she is one of the kindest and charitable people when it comes to others. Everyone seeks to take away her power for fear of her thinking that she wipes them off the face of the earth just by looking at them, Celeste is a person as different as others see her fear of her only makes those who do not know her believe the most ruthless things about her. Throughout the story you can see how she cares for simple humans more than she cares for herself, in them she finds her lost family, and both sides complement each other perfectly.
The relationship that Roman and Celeste share is one full of understanding, although in the past there was suffering, they come to meet again with that bond of love that although Celeste says she does not love him can be seen as she finds security, love, and understanding in his arms. Roman is the perfect description of a vampire is cold, calculating, protective, strong, and a leader all this on the battlefield and in the politics of the magical world with other people usually shows his most human and warm side, especially with Celeste who is the love of his immortal life, he would burn in the sun for her.
Issac is so blinded by his own thirst for revenge and selfishness that he doesn't see beyond what is around him, he blames Celeste for all his problems when he should be looking for the truth of his tragedy. Issac as a character made me despair that his rage for Celeste ruins everything else in his story if he had left that aside a bit he would be a more passable character. Lily is a human who shows unmatched strength she is so curious and above all willing to stand up for those she loves her relationship with Celeste is very special sisters love their relationship. Regina is a character that her evilness has no limits throughout the story you will find out why.
A story full of drama, suspense, and supernatural creatures, all united by a common enemy, an adventure like no other that continues to this day.
It took me a few days to finish because, well, life.. but once I was able to relax and read I couldn’t put it down! I devoured it! Please tell me there will be another one SOON! I need to know what happens next!
I think the world building and plot was amazing. Celeste is trying to live her best life while everyone else out there wants her power or wants her dead. The characters were very well written.
I can't wait to learn more about Celeste's past lives and how her relationships with others develop.
I'd give the books a 1 out 5 for spice level. There wasn't very many spicy scenes.
It was a strong start with the main character Celeste digging herself out of her own grave, but it's going to be a no from me. A big NO from me. After that awesome start, I did feel my interest waning, but I thought I could work through since the book isn't that long, but oh boy. That bathroom scene between Celeste and Isaac was the nail in the coffin. After that I just felt grossed out. I think of myself as someone that can read a lot of things without having to stop reading the thing permanently, everthing from the weird to the fucked up. I can read CNC, and I can read dub-con under most circumstances, but a step-by-step rape scene between two of the main (?) characters in what's supposed to be a romance? Hard no. Since this is enemies to lovers I would be able to accept them being mean to each other, getting stabby or hurling magic fireballs at each other, but I can't with rape.
Also, a major ick for me is the book cover. You can't convince me that isn't AI. The eyes are just a little bit off, the medalion is an indistinct blob with no intentional pattern, the hair is weird looking in quite a few places, and there are something funky going on with the dress and the folds in the cloth (especially just below the hands/glowing orb, and the sleeve disappearing into a bracelet thing). But the tell of all tell is the hands. What in the world is happening with the hands? One just disappears into the glowing orb thing, and the other is missing a finger and the joints on the remaining four are bending way wrong, unless Celeste had a disability of the hand (which is not mentioned anywhere that I read). So yeah, ew AI.
I started this series because I received an ARC of the next book. I read the novella and this and honestly I am going to have to DNF this series. I may just read too much fantasy but the story went nowhere for me. I didn’t even get invested until 80% into the book. I have no interest in reading the next book at this time.
Celeste just came back to life. She comes across a man that just wants to help her. She bewitches him to take her to his house for protection from the ones that are hunting her.
Roman is a vampire and part of a secret group of supernatural beings that protect the supernatural kind. They know that Celeste is about to reawaken and he must get to her before the others do.
Isaac is a warewolf who has pledged to get revenge on Celeste for killing members of his pack before they killed her. And he knows exactly where to find her. Too bad Roman is also trying his best to find her.
When Roman finds her with the help of her new family, he realizes that there’s another group that is responsible for what happened to Isaacs clan. Now he must convince him of what actually happened, and form a plan to protect everyone.
Werewolves, witches, fae, demons, dragon shifters, and more. This book is one of the best paranormal fantasy books I’ve read!
A story full of drama, suspense, and supernatural creatures, all united by a common enemy, an adventure like no other that continues to this day.
I think the world building and plot was amazing. I loved learning about the magic and history of the characters and their species. Celeste is trying to live her best life while everyone else out there wants her power or wants her dead. The characters were very well written.
I literally can’t wait for the story to continue. I can’t pinpoint what I've enjoyed the most... it's a mix of the world-building, the mysteries, the interesting and complex characters, but also the story itself and how it's written! I can't wait to learn more about Celeste's past lives and how her relationships with others develop.
I really enjoyed the intense world building in this book and the detailed characters! I loved learning about the magic and history of the characters and their species. I felt at times the writing in dialogue came off a little unnatural, but otherwise this book has great potential as a series!
I would give this 4.5 stars if it would let me. This book introduces us to a new, but not unfamiliar cast of characters. Witches, werewolves, vampires and fey and their innate distrust for one another. I didn't connect with the main character right away, but over the course of the book she grew on me. Now I can't wait to see what happens next. This story ends without resolution, so there will be more books to come. I am excited to see more relationship development from future books!
This was a very interesting book that has so many different things happening. I can’t wait for the next one in this series. I highly recommend this book.
The action-packed plot will keep you hooked, and love of the characters will make you stay. I started with the prequel, and this was a satisfying resolution to Roman’s heartbreaking story of love and loss—or should I say, continuation, because I dearly hope to see plenty more of Roman in future installments. I wished he hadn’t when he was declaring his feelings for Celeste, but I do believe he was 100% genuine in that moment, I don’t think it was a manipulation tactic. The whole-hearted way he throws himself into loving Celeste is something most of us could only dream of having in a partner. It’s impossible for her NOT to love him back!
As for Isaac, I can’t say I’m his biggest fan. It bothered me that he couldn’t figure out what really happened that night eighty years ago, if it’s true what Roman said—that he already had all the pieces. I do think he had reason enough to be suspicious that all was not as it seemed, given what we saw in his flashbacks, and his blind thirst for vengeance prevented him from seeing the other possibilities. None of that is any excuse for Celeste and she really messed up that interaction in more ways than one. She had the chance then, to have a conversation, remember who he was, and explain what really happened. Even if he didn’t believe her (a disturbing number of people in this series seem bent on painting her as the villain no matter what) at least then the ball would’ve been in his court. Isaac’s story was all about trying to get answers from Celeste, but he would’ve had a much more interesting subplot if he had been able to direct his investigation in a more fruitful direction.
If Alice is alive, I’m going to need a really good excuse for her being gone all that time, but I do have my theories. Samara is an interesting puzzle piece 😉 I have a good sense I know who and what Mathias is, and I can’t wait to be proven right on that front as well. My one regret throughout the book is that Roman failed to rip Regina’s head off when they had the chance. She’s not gonna be so vulnerable next time. I do hope the next book doesn’t make us wait too long to reveal who is behind all this stuff, now that we know, because I do hate it when the villain gets away with their crimes.
Celeste is back. The oldest, most powerful witch. A witch without a soul that keeps being killed and comes back. This time eighty years have past. She has woken up in the 21st century with technology abound. She does what she has to do to survive. The witch hunters are always after her. Now she has a few extra followers determined to find her. Isaac the alpha of the werewolves. He remembers Celeste. Celeste killed his whole pack and he out for revenge. Roman Kaiser is a vampire and Celeste’s soulmate. She has been running away from him for over two hundred years. He refuses to let her get away again.
Something is wrong. Celeste has lost her stored power and with everything going on she needs it more than ever now. Without the amulet, it will take years for Celeste to get back to full strength. She takes refuge with a family that is oddly agreeable with her being there. Yes, she uses magic but she finds them doing stuff for her without much magic. What is going on?
There is so much going on. Supernaturals are coming up missing. It always seems to happen when Celeste surfaces again. Is she the cause? Celeste is having a hard time recalling her memories but Roman knows her and knows that she would never destroy a whole pack. Until Celeste remembers, Isaac will continue to seek out his revenge. There is something about Celeste that Isaac cannot seem to let go of. He wants to protect her.
Can all the supernaturals pull together to stop whoever is taking people? And let me tell you the twist and the cliffhanger will have you on the floor. Like, for real, on the floor. Readers will be anxiously waiting for the next book. Ms. Hart prepare to be bothered by readers begging for a sequel to this magnificent world you have created.
An ancient witch who rises from the dead each time she's killed...a vampire whose chosen her, a wolf who desires her despite the fact that he can't stand her, and a human family she's come to care for. Celeste is a multifaceted character that we meet as she's leaving the grave.
I loved how the real Celeste and the view of her that everyone seems to have are so conflicted, and we aren't quite sure which to believe for a while. Roman is fascinating as well, and has definitely given his cold, dead heart to Celeste. Isaac is a werewolf and only remembers Celeste surrounded by bloodshed at her last death, and has a hard time reconciling that image with what's in front of him.
Lily is completely fascinated with Celeste, and their family becomes her family as she spends more time with them. Even Nym, a creature no one is really sure about and exists as Celeste's familiar in the form of a large black cat, is becoming comfortable here. But it won't be long before they're being attacked for helping Celeste.
Drama, suspense, and creatures at working together to address a common enemy, the Order, are defying everything I their nature. Werewolves, vampires and fae joining together to save Celeste and rescue their own people from humans and witches who would see their demise. I loved how everything was woven together into this big, epic and dangerous adventure. I need to see what happens next though!
Does having a soul make you the hero or does not having a soul make you the villain? I loved this book as it blurred the answer to these two questions. The Soulless Witch is the story of Celeste, an ancient and powerful witch who has died many times over the centuries. This story starts with Celeste climbing out of her own grave and has you hooked. She realizes that eighty years have passed since her death at the hands of witch hunters. The last thing she remembers is destroying an entire wolfpack, except for a small boy, Issac.
Celeste is on the run from werewolves now lead by the alpha, Isaac, witches, and hunters. She is also on the run from Rowan, an ancient vampire who marked her as his bond several hundreds of years prior. What I like about this story is Celeste, who would not hesitate to put you in your place and has been accused of many horrendous things and has been described as evil incarnate has more compassion than those who pursue her in the name of justice.
Ms. Hart has built a detailed world of witches, werewolves, and vampires. Her writing keeps you invested in Celeste and the people she keeps around her. The mystery of who is truly her ally and who is the enemy keeps you wanting more. While there is violence in this book, it is not over the top. It’s crucial to keep the story moving forward.
Please be aware that this story does end on a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
J.s hart is a new new author to me and I love anything and everything to do with the supernatural. So I knew this book was going to be right up my alley and I was right. I was blown away by it and loved every minute of it.
The author put so much thought into this series it shows throughout just how good she is.
A story so full of drama, suspense, passion, twists and turns and much more. The world building, the characters, the plots where brilliant. I just couldn't put it down once I started. We get taking on a magical journey where we get to experience different aspects of their history and more. And what a journey it was! Plots you just didn't see coming at all.
Celeste is a powerful witch, that many fear her or are threatened by her, some want her dead and others want her power. She just wants to be left alone. You would think she's soulless but that's far from the truth. Roman is a powerful vampire, him and Celeste share an amazing bond and understanding they would do anything for each other ! Issac well he's on another level, so blinded by hate and revenge he can't see the truth and is confused to why he feels drawn to her. I can't wait to read more and learn more from their story and that ending lord!
This book was amazing and I don't want to say anything else you have to experience it for yourself it's so worth it. I highly recommend.
I received a free ARC for this book and this opinion is all mine.
I'm not the target audience for paranormal romance, but we all have to leave our comfort zone some time. The author has absolutely perfected the trope of the emotionally unavailable heroine. You know the one I'm talking about - the woman who was hurt so deeply she shut off her heart, focused on power, and distrusts anything with a pulse.
This trope is so easy to f*ck up, but it works here, because Celeste literally has no soul. She is, without a doubt, the best part of the book. Her introspections were deep and intense, and revealed her inner world perfectly. I won't spoil it, because there's a lot to unpack here, so you'll have to see for yourself.
Roman was interesting. It's tough to write the level of maturity and grace of thousand-year-old characters. The author bypasses this with the magical soul bond he has with Celeste and it works! We get a character who is wise and powerful beyond comprehension, but he also possesses the emotional capacity to be in love. Maybe a bit too much, bordering on slave attitude, but even this is compatible when you're bound to the soulless witch.
I must admit, I did not care for Isaac in the slightest. It's unavoidable. When you have multiple love interests, one is bound to be better than the others. However, his hate boner for Celeste overshadowed his painful backstory, and I couldn't take his torment seriously. I know some readers enjoy this kind of drama, but it's not for me. Still, he was entertaining and I expect more of him in the next book.
Also, kudos for making the resurrection trope work! I. Hate. Resurrection. I hate it when death is made meaningless, and 9 times out of 10, this is a reason for me to DNF a book. Of course, there are exceptions, and this is one of them. There is resurrection, but death is not meaningless. Perfect.
The story is captivating with colorful characters and gradually revealed detailed worldbuilding. If multiple fantasy races in one place are your jam, give it a go. If dark, grumpy OP heroines are your jam, give it a go. If a woman getting all the men is your jam, definitely give it a go!
I really enjoyed this book! The pacing was good, characters were well developed, and there was enough going on to keep me interested start to finish!
I couldn’t help but root for Celeste - right from the beginning she comes out swinging. Her vulnerabilities make her just as compelling as her fierce and protective nature- even when none of the other characters see that side of her. Then seeing Celeste through Romans eyes just makes you love her (and him) all the more! Plus who can’t help but crack up over a FMC who refers to a grown werewolf as “puppy.”
There was some light foreshadowing throughout the book that made guessing what was going to happen, before it actually happened fun…. And the cliffhanger while I hateeee them also made me crazy desperate to find out what happens next!
***I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion in this review
This book is amazing with so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming I was so ready for the female lead to be a villain but I was shocked to find out who the real villain is, I don't want to say too much without giving it away but you should not hesitate to buy this book! It has set the scene for a very promising series and left off on a cliff-hanger - the type of cliff-hanger that leaves you craving for more and wishing you didn't have to wait for book 2 in the series. I read a lot of paranormal fantasy books and there is quite a few that have a similar story line but are still good in there own right however this book does not follow the usual story line, this book hasn't just thought outside the box with its story line it has tore the box up! I am eager for more of this brilliant story! I love the characters and I need more of celeste and roman
I couldn’t put this book down! If you like action, mystery, and all kinds of supernatural goings on, this is the book for you. There isn’t a whole lot of spice, but honestly, I don’t think you will even care or probably not even notice as you’re reading it. Well at least l feel that way, you will just have to read it to see if that’s how you feel. A witch, Celeste, a vampire who has been in love with her for eons, and a wolf shifter, who despite his many objections, wants her. The chemistry between all of them is so palatable. Will it all pan out, or will it all blow up in their faces? I recommend reading this book to find out!
As always pay attention to the trigger warnings, what I like you may not.
This author has amazing stories! They are always so creative with unexpected twists and turns. The story of Celeste, a vampire and werewolf is no exception.
The story tells of Celeste, an ancient witch, not the typical character you identify with from the start, much less the damsel in distress.
However, with time one can understand her motivations, and all the situations that occur.
I love the narrative, the surprises, characters and emotions involve, and especially the relationships of enemies to lovers!
I recommend this story if you want to immerse yourself in a new world with wonderful characters, mystery, and spicy action, that allows you to forget everything that happens around you.
This book was really good! It is definitely fantasy, with a witch, werewolf, and vampire, among other fantasy races. This book is a 3 POV book, which is done really well! The 3 POVs follow Celeste (witch), Roman (vampire), and Isaac (werewolf), but there was one POV, at the end, that follow Samara (witch). There was instances where Isaac had flashbacks and they were done so well, the author italicized the flashbacks to ensure you understand it is a flashback.
I absolutely love how the author detailed the book so much that it was down to what the characters smelled, but kept it interesting with the action involved throughout the book!
I cannot wait for the next book to come out, I am excited to read it!
It's a good book but not amazing. The pacing was a bit fast but the book was less than 300 pages so that's to be expected. Even with the rush it was still well written and well executed. I liked all of the characters (I'm warming up to Isaac) and the depth of Celeste but feel Roman is a little one dimensional. I like the premise of the book a lot but had some questions in regards to a few plot holes that popped up. Hopefully those will be answered in the next book. I knew right from the beginning that it was going to be a FMM type of book just from the POVs so I'm not sure why do many people were confused about that but maybe that's just something you pick up on after years of reading. Either way I definitely plan on reading the next book in the series.
I loved the mix of characters and all history they have. Everyone has skeleton's in their closet no matter who you are. My favorite character beside Celeste is Issac. The difference with him from the beginning to the end is amazing. I am excited to read the next one in the series when it's released. The plot was amazing. I love the way it ended even with the cliffhangers because a see many options for future books in the Series. I recommed this for YA and up but check the TW beforehand in case are opinion differ over appropriate materials for YA. 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1🌶️ 1😢 Quote from the book: “Love was the beginning of all treachery and the mother of all heartbreak.”
I really enjoyed this book Celeste has been dead for 80 years when she returns she’s weak it will take some time for power to return She’s not as bad as people make out she’s caring and loving but want let anyone see that .
Roman is a vampire his in love with Celeste and made her his he hasn’t seen her for over 200 years and desperately wants her
Isaac is a werewolf his out for revenge, he watched Celeste kill all his pack and wants to end her life at any cost but his also got feelings for her his confused
I would recommend this book and I can’t wait for the next one to continue the story
What do you get when you cross an ancient witch, a vampire, and a werewolf..... The Soulless Witch. Celeste returns to find the world she knew gone and a new modern world she didn't understand. She enchanted a man to help hide her while she regained her strength only to be forced to face her past. This book had me hooked, sitting at the edge of my seat. I was questioning who was the hero vs. the villan and could not wait to read the next twist. The FMCs development as we learn more about her life was amazing. Her connections to the MMCs in both the past and present kept me intrigued. I'm holding my breath in anticipation for book 2!
