Jim Fitzpatrick resorts again to the treasure house of his Irish childhood as he preserves the mythical integrity of his story. He has kept many of the traditional graphic motifs that decorate the pages of older hand wrought books and incorporated the traditional Celtic designs. This book will appeal to both the child and man who might otherwise pass by.
This is a beautifully painted retelling of the first book of the Mabinogian, or "Book of Invasions." The Tuatha De Dannan, Nuada of the Silver Arm, Lugh and Dagda, and all the old Celtic gods. As attractive for its artwork as the story.
This is the follow up to the The Book of Conquests which came out in 1978 and continues the story of Ireland's early mythological cycle. Just like Conquests this is a beautifully told tale recounting the story of the Tuatha De's defeat of the Fomor at the second battle of Moy Tura. It goes without saying the full colour illustrations are beautifully done. According to Erinsaga, a collection of Jim's mythological paintings, a third volume was planned but unfortunately never saw the light of day. If you have any interest in Irish mythology or just superb artwork, all of Jim's works are worth checking out.
