Sweetshade #2

Fire & Rain

Rate this book
Sonny Lakes has found a home with Abe Ellis in Sweetshade, a small town as calm and inviting as the name suggests. But even places like that can hide sinister secrets and dangerous threats.

After facing down Sonny’s stalker and coming to terms with their need to work on better communication, they seem to have settled into the domestic bliss they’ve both been craving. But just as Sonny is about to return to the medical field and pursue his dreams, he gets enmeshed in an all-too-familiar nightmare, upending any sense of stability he had.

Their hard-won peace robbed from them, Abe fights to keep Sonny on the path toward the career he’s always wanted. Abe is willing to do whatever it takes, but his increasingly risky deceit not only threatens their relationship, but his own life yet again.

Can Sonny and Abe find their way through the fire once more and learn to dance in the rain?

Pretty Terrific Secret Dispatcher and PARTNER

After all the struggles and chaos of book one in the series, things seem to be getting better for Sonny and Abe. The PTSD torture of emotions and misunderstandings is getting better, but anger and secrets are still disruptive even as life gets better together.

But there are still terrorists and gay haters in the neighborhood. (I wish the author had described more about the situation with the Pastor and his son Mason leading up to the attack on Abe and the legal and religious effects on the community. This was important, but ignored.)

When the school shooter did not get his notoriety, he tried for bigger and more violent news stories. This created more secrets while Elliot was in prison awaiting trial.

Abe's funeral and Sonny's life changes between EMT classes and working at the Tavern while recovering from more traumatic events and trying to get back to "normal" with family and friends created more secrets that finally helped with more love, understanding, and healing.
