For Adrien Thompson, Rutland came around later in life. It’s where he fled to find happiness. It’s where things spiraled out of control. But the town’s roots are embedded much deeper in the Thompson family than where Adrien started. His father, Paul, was born in the up-and-coming town. After tragedy strikes the family, followed by a string of bad luck, his parent’s backs are against the wall. Their only option is to move back to Kirksville. Paul’s mom doesn’t mind. Rutland has changed her husband for the worse. Putting Rutland behind them is her last chance to fix the family, but The Dark One doesn’t plan on letting them go without a fight.
Another rollercoaster of a story! It was very interesting to get Paul's backstory, and I was left curious from TDO as to what happened to him once he abandoned his family. I was a bit shocked as to how dark his story ended up. Obviously, I didn't know what to expect, but that was not how I imagined his running off with one of his students. In the future, I'd love to hear more about what happened to Claire once Adrian left. It would be amazing if Claire and Steph's paths somehow crossed.
