Fourteen year old Jeff becomes a drummer boy in the Confederate Army and struggles with faith while experiencing personal hardship and tragedy. The series follows Leah, Jeff, family, and friends, as they experience hope and God’s grace through four years of war.

Such a darling story! A bit repetitive in one section, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. I am loving this series!

I especially enjoyed the mystery and secrecy of this story. Ezra was a delightful character to add to the narrative.

I love the tension that Leah and Jeff, especially, have with the whole situation of Ezra. This series does such a great job of wrestling with the moral issues of any war, but particularly a civil war.

This was another fun adventure! As usual, my favorite parts were Jeff and Leah. They're so in love and I adore it. I know they're pretending that's not what this is but we all know that's what it is. XD But I like that they're friends slowly becoming more. And I loved the faith elements and the historical setting. I liked Ezra, but I am slightly biased towards that name, for... reasons. Let's not go there. XD But overall it was a great book for young and old readers alike! 8+

Look. I knew when I chose to reread this series from my childhood that it wouldn't be great. But MY SHIP ended the book HOLDING HANDS and my 30-year-old self had feelings, of course my preteen self devoured it.
