She’s got a brand new life and everything she wants ...right? The hated house of her childhood has been sold and Alison now has a smart new apartment and a new, exciting career. Everything, in fact, that she’s ever dreamed of. Mother is but a sad and miserable memory. Life is good, life is slim. But then it all starts to go horribly wrong...again, and Alison has to ask herself – is it her? She’s trying her very best to be a good person but it’s harder than she thought it would be and, if she’s honest, which she’s mostly not; it’s a bit boring. Is she more like Mother than she’d care to admit? Find out in Fat Girl Slim Returns - chicklit; but not as you know it.
Marina Johnson loves all things British, including the weather when it stops raining. She keeps trying to write something serious and straightforward but it never quite turns out that way. She also writes under the pen name Joanne Ryan https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Such an enjoyable read, the characters are great. Now that Alison is 'slim' she is trapped once again - but not by her mother, this time Alison is engaged in the trappings of celebrity, having written a best selling diet book (which is available for £14.99!) I enjoyed getting to know Alison a bit better, she is the product of her mother's emotionally unavailable ways. I loved Alison's only friend, Doris she has a new job and transformation. She becomes the best, tolerant friend anyone could ever wish for - I actually thought Alison did not deserve her at one point. I nearly wept over what happened with Gerald, but finally, Alison's personality grew rather than her bottom. Marina Johnson's writing is entertaining and hilarious, protagonist Alison's first-person narration allows us readers to find out what she really thinks- some wonderful human observations of the modern world and suspense created by Alison's lies.
I really enjoyed this sequel to Fat Girl Slim. We meet many of the same characters, even Bella gets a mention, but they’ve all moved on, and how. Alison has everything she’s ever wanted, minus Mother, and thinks she should be happy. Doris is restyled as Doe now, and Gerald has helped Alison start her new venture. But Alison, despite trying to be good, just cannot pull it off, completely. She says she won’t tell any more lies, but cannot stop herself. The humour is dark and delicious in this sequel and I just loved the ending. Definitely recommend.
Alison is back and with all the more excitement and drama. Life taken a u turn, Alison has it all. How? You really need to read the first to know who Alison really is. Alison's character is someone who doesn't hide what she tells you. Fat girl slim never disappoints because her morale compass doesn't see what we are usually conditioned to have. Read this one, you never know who you find in the book.
I actually don’t know what I am going to listen to now this has finished! Why isn’t book 3 on audible? I want to know what happens next but it won’t be the same reading it! Great read... well done Marina!
An excellent follow up book..great story with laugh out loud moments as well as heart warming moments...really hope Marian writes another in the fat girl slim stories
I preferred this book to the first, although this may be because I'd already been introduced to the characters and had some backstory which helped me to feel more invested in them, because if I hadn't then I probably wouldn't have been very invested at all.
The storyline was interesting and was a good pace, although at some points it was a little lacking. I finished the novel feeling like I still didn't fully understand Alison's motives, even though there were a lot of internal monologues throughout, which made it difficult to feel empathetic towards her character. It was still an interesting plotline nonetheless, although there are certain parts that I would love to have some more information about (especially towards the end!).
Also, I found several mistakes in the book; mostly spelling/grammar errors which are easy to miss or ignore whilst reading, but there was one sentence which just stopped halfway through and the next section continued with no punctuation to end the first, which was a little confusing.
I didn’t like the way the book started and almost stopped reading it. Allison lies a lot and hasn’t processed her childhood and terrible relationship with her late mom. She needs to see a therapist. I also thought this book took an odd turn when we find Allison has written a diet book. She also has a short-lived and hidden relationship with an arrogant uncaring man. Spoiler alert————————she ends up getting pregnant and right when she is about to have an abortion she changes her mind. I want, for once, there to be a book where the women doesn’t fee conflicted or guilty and just goes through with it.

I loved the intrigue from the first book so much that I bought this one immediately after I finished the first and binge read it. I needed answers!
But now I think I should have enjoyed the first book a bit longer. It’s not that FGS Returns wasn’t an entertaining book - it’s just that all of the characters were so different from the original (including Doris) that it may have been a story about somebody else.
I like this book, it's one of those that is helping me get back into reading. The plot is easy to follow, not too complicated but interesting enough to make you want to pick it up again. Looking forward to seeing what's in store in the next book.
Allison is back & this time there is even more of her!
Gerald & his proposal still loom. Blame the bustard is back AND blackmailing. Do (hey be improved name) is turning out to be the best BESTIE one could ever dream of. Love is good, but ideations of murder still crop into Allison's mind on occasion. Hey, old habits die hard.

After being gripped to the first book - reading within days I was immediately purchasing this one although I wasn't as impressed It felt like I was reading a separate series.
I absolutely loved the first one in this series, but I felt this one was not as good. I really dislike Alison , which is down to the brilliant writing of this character. Will continue to read the others in the series.
The first book had me captivated from the start & I didn't stop until I had finished it, this one I studying think was anywhere as near as good. Still a good read though & funny.
This was a great sequel to fat girl slim. The only problem I had with it was the way in which the abortion was handled just seemed a bit insensitive to the reader. Apart from that a great read.

Absolutely brilliant read, hilariously funny and sad at parts. I loved reading about Alison again and how different her life is now. There are some shocks along the way but I loved the ending! I really recommend reading.
