The Dragon Tributes #2

Taming The Fire

Rate this book
The dragons on Draig Island are not your run-of-the-mill kind. They’re something else entirely…

I’m incredibly lucky. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. My father is one of the wealthiest men in the world, and I stand to inherit everything one day. At least, that’s what I tell people, but it isn’t exactly true. The reality is that my life is not my own. Everything has been mapped out and dictated to me, right down to the man I will marry one day. Unfortunately, that day is fast approaching and the man he has chosen - let’s just say, he’s not my type.

I was distraught when I found out that I had been selected as a Tribute. That I was expected to go to Draig Island. Everyone knows that a large percentage of Tributes never make it back. I thought it was the worst thing that could happen to me.

Then, I taste freedom for the first time in my life. I start to think that Draig Island could be my salvation. All I have to do is mind-bond with a dragon, and I will be able to stay. It’s a pity that mind-bonding with dragons is incredibly dangerous and a very difficult feat to achieve. I am determined. I will get it right. I want to stay. Going back to my old life is no longer an option.

3.5 stars.
The character development Skylar and Fang went through throughout this book, both as individuals and as a couple, was really heartening.
When Skylar first arrived as a tribute she was skittish, meek and subservient, beaten down by the shackles her father had placed so tightly on her life and unable to fully settle into her new reality because she was so sure he would never let her be free and would come for her. By the end, she was brave, confident in her own skin, determined and knew exactly how strong and capable she was.
Fang was the definition of damaged, traumatised by his loss, unable to move on or release the immense and unplaced guilt he felt. This blinded him and closed him off from anything positive. By the end, he was able to embrace his new life, whilst honouring and remembering his old one and find a blissful balance between the two.
Also, as a side note, Skylar's father is abhorrent. Fuck that guy.

Good story but very confusing

Let me start by saying I loved the world building, the characters, and most definitely the spice in the first two books. HOWEVER, I don't believe I'll be moving on to book 3. Because, even though we certainly get an HEA for our couples the buildup from each of the books still feels like your left hanging at the end of each book. After book 1, I wanted to learn so much more about Hunter's journey as a seren, but all I got were cameos in book 2 and nothing involving her journey. Then in book 2, there was this huge buildup of Skylar wanting to be a dragon rider only for it to not come to fruition, due to some right hooks at the very end. And even if we did still get an HEA for our couples I felt like the resolutions that came about at the end of the books didn't match with the characters or the continued growth I was hoping to see. (Seriously that ending should have been meant for someone else Like Jen or even freaking Hunter.....not Miss Independent Skylar!)

Taming The Fire🐉🔥

Taming The Fire is the next book in the Dragon Tributes series and focuses on Fang, our grumpy militant instructor and Skylar, a Tribute and wealthy heiress. This story I admit took me on a journey I never expected but made it that much more interesting in its direction❣️Both background stories were unexpected but I love a good love overcomes everything story🙃

Loved it and I can’t wait for Blaze’s story next😁 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️

Taming The Fire is the second exciting book in The Dragon Tributes series.
While each book can be read as a standalone, it’s best to read them in order to fully appreciate all the paranormal alpha goodness and delicious darkness they offer.
Nobody can refuse to be a Tribute but nobody knows what exactly a Tribute is. There are many layers to get to be a tribute but each layer is not shared until you pass each test. Now they just have to stay alive. But what if the worst thing is not on this island?
I love the adrenaline rush that comes from strong, sexy alpha males in protective mode paired with their mates.

What just happened?

I must confess that I'm really puzzled by this book. I really enjoyed the first one but something seems to have happened to cause a real disconnect between that & this one. One of the most irksome things was the use of staccato sentences, some only two or three words long. Not too much of a problem if that's the case on rare occasions but when it's page after page of machine gunned text, it verges on the unreadable. It became far more apparent as the book progressed. The dialogue suffered because of it, as well, making a mockery of "conversations".

To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly as I was looking forward to a really good dragon shifter story; one I would enjoy as much as the first. It seems as if*everything* was sacrificed for the sake of extreme brevity. Plot holes big enough for a dragon to fly through; characters undeveloped; the aforementioned truncated sentences & speech.

I really hate leaving negative sounding reviews but I don't have a choice this time. I promised myself that I'd be honest when I first started leaving reviews & that's what I've always tried for. No doubt there will be plenty of people who will love this series & that's a good thing. Life would be extremely dull if we all felt the same about everything! I won't be continuing with the series but I know there's something else that will scratch my shifter itch just around the corner.

This was a simply wonderful addition to the series, characters and scenario wonderful
I love the first book in this series and have to say that I have been looking forward to the next book in the series and I have to say that I was not at all disappointed it was just as entertaining and equally as thrilling and entertaining a read.
This book was based around Fang who has seemed to have found his other half and she is a heiress that is known as Skylar who had never wanted to be a Tribute to a dragon and had ensured that her father had known this fact and yet believed he would be able to save her but this dud not appear to have been the case.
The dragons are desperate to find riders but the process to find humans that are suitable is a complex process and will take all of the intelligence and bravery a human has but they will also require some far more unusual talents if they are to become Dragon Riders and perhaps save their species.

I guarantee that you will be blown away by this the second book and will be left waiting for the next book in this wonderful series of books.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Good as a Sequel or a Stand-Alone

Technically this book is a sequel and there are certainly elements that are enhanced if you read it as the second in the series, but…

I just really enjoyed this book. The characters were complex and wrestled with complex emotions. The relationship was complex, with hot sex scenes thrown in on top of it. There were ups and downs without any of it feeling rushed or too easy. The romance aspects were quality.

The on-going series villain was developed and more nuanced than in book one, with some added information that made the antaganoist seem both more relatable and more threatening/scary.

The book left me wanting to read the next book in the series, too, which is always a good sign. However, the one weakness that really stuck out for me with the last book is still here with this one too: I want to see some of the bits about a relationship after both parties agree there is a relationship. For me, the HEA isn’t when they say they love each other, it’s when they get down to the business of working at the love and are still successful at it. In general terms…I want to see more of these characters and get to be inside their heads for longer. Both book one and two end abruptly and too soon for me. Which isn’t the worst weakness to have, is it?

super angsty kinda sorta a “bully” romance

He blames himself for his mate and unborn child’s death and also his rider
Fang is a dragon who needs to bond with a rider. She is a poor ,rich girl with a hateful cruel money power hungry father. Who has sold her and her virginity to the highest bidder when she was 13.. to stay a virgin until she marries her betrothed at 21. Just weeks before her forced arranged marriage to a fat balding gross pig of a wealthy businessman. She is called as a tribute to Draig Island . Where she will either die or become bonded to a dragon and fight together as a rider dragon team l to protect the mainland. From a group of feral red dragons who continually threaten the “females” tributes. But can she and Fang figure out their relationship before her father extracts her and forces her to marry this horrible business partner? Or is it lust, and then dust. Wham bamm dragon no thx mamme

DNF

I could only make it until the end of chapter 13. This is basically a repeat of book 1 at this point with a brooding hunky male and a female that’s wishy washy between being strong and confident and constantly folding beneath the slightest pressure from the hunky male…

This book switches female leads from the first book with Hunter to Skylar, the rich heir to J&J mining company. That was a big red flag for me seeing as how the first book left off on a big cliffhanger with Hunter being some king of special Sky Warden, yet at this point in the book, nothing further has been mentioned or elaborated on. This makes me feel like the subsequent books will be more of the same and lacking individuality and creativity in their stories.

Maybe I’ll give it another chance at some point, but it’s not what I expected or was looking forward to with a dragon shifter series… and not in a good way.

This is the second book in this series and you definitely need to read these in order. One story definitely leads to another. I like the world building but do wish it was a little more complete. With the first story I felt the ending was a little abrupt, however this one was even more so. There is so much development of the unfolding story and the evil father, etc. but at the end it seems the H changes his mind on a dime and next thing you know there is an epilogue. I had so many questions... when they say mate do they mean fated mate? Sex enhances the bond between rider and dragon yet some are same sex and there are several mentioned with mates and riders not the same people? It is fine, but I wanted more details.

Also what happened after the H rescued the h was left unexplained... what happened to her inheritance etc. Still a great read and I can't wait to see more of this world.

This series has been very unexpected. It is unique in the way that the dragons are portrayed and how there seem to be little Easter eggs that build each book. Little tidbits of information that keep building and building. While I enjoy the way this is unfolding, I do wish we got a bit more of the couples actually being together, but each book has ended fairly abruptly. It makes sense to some degree with how these books are structured, but I do think there could be better transitions. That being said, I really enjoyed the push and pull these two had. The heated exchanges and passion were great, though the actual relationship development was a little lacking in some portions. Overall, though, I really enjoyed this book! I can't wait to keep reading!

This is the second story in The Dragon Tributes series. I loved that this story basically continued on from where Dagger and Hunter left off. The plot was entertaining and kept me reading though to the wee hours of the morning! Skyler and Fang have an awesome Chemistry. There are times that I want to punch both Skyler and Fang for the their stubbornness. But I can’t wait to see what happens in the third book. The only critique that I have with this story was that it felt like the ending was a bit rushed and kinda leaves you hanging with more questions than expected. The third book can’t come soon enough!

Exciting, Hot and also very random

******* Contains Some Spoilers*******

Fang and Skylar’s story started off really strong and had lots of passion. I loved the mystery behind the attempts at the kidnapping as well as her and fangs back and forth relationship. I do feel like so many things got left unanswered. I didn’t realize that the book would exclude so much of her return and what happened once the got back to Draig. She wrote so much adventure into this one book but also left a ton of things unresolved at the end that it slightly annoyed me. I can’t wait to read the next book, hopefully it brings me some closer.

Here I thought I read book 1 fast...

I will say this, it did feel like the book ending was rushed, lots of skipped details and somehow it seems like we missed out on a lot of possible content which would have been interesting and added more meat to the storyline.

It was a very good escape from work stress, the smut was very welcomed and I'm sitting at the edge of my seat with so many questions, like what happened after Sky was saved? What of the Red Dragons, did all the invasions stop? What about that jerk she was to marry? I was a little disappointed with the ending. and why is book 3 not ready already?!

This was a very quick read and again, I want more.

it’s just ok

It’s well written and easy to read, but there isn’t much in the way of a plot. It’s basically a contemporary romance where the romance is the plot. There’s even a 3rd act breakup. I wouldn’t even really call it a romantacy it’s more of a romance with minimal fantasy elements. But let’s be honest none of the dragons ever shift and so the FMC never sees them (ok the MMC shifts once for a couple paragraphs). So mostly there is only fantasy elements in an abstract way, they aren’t really on the page, just what we’re told about nothing is actually shown to the reader. Just wasn’t what I was hoping for. I wont be continuing on with the series.

Another great book in this series. And another sexy, grumpy dragon shifter. Skylar is a spoiled rich girl, or so we think. And for some reason, she wants to stay on Draig Island and become a dragon rider. Fang is a very serious and grumpy shifter. Skylar partially bonds to Fangs dragon. Fang is attracted to Skylar yet wants not part of her. But, he is forced to try and bond. Will Skylar and Fang bond? Will they give into their attraction? Will Skylars rich dad bring her home? This story is fast paced, dangerous and sexy. Can't wait for the next book!

It was okay. For a sequel.

This one was okay. It redeemed the character Schuyler in my book.
Because in the first book that particular character. I didn't think I was going to like her. So this book gave more Depth to the character. Although I'm not gonna lie, there were a couple times when I wanted to beat 1 of the main characters over the head. Soundly, that's all I'm saying.
Once again, though I don't know why but once again, I felt that the ending was rushed and this one seemed to leave. Quite a bit more let's thoroughly explained

Skylar is one of the trainees on island. She need to bond to one of the dragons to become a dragon rider. But what happens is a partial bonding because the human part of this dragon doesn’t really want to bond but his dragon likes Skylar. But there are thing happening behind the scenes to get Skylar back to the mainland to her controlling father. And it almost work but Fang realizes he can be without her. So enjoy another good read a see how it works out for them!!

Struggled to read

There will be vague spoilers in this review.

Overall the book was ok. I enjoyed how real the second half came together. Really shows that she deserves better than the guy who treats her like trash.
I'm not why there's now an HQ like the dragon answer to a board of directors and a counsel. Really seemed weird that it was thrown in.
I really had a hard time with the whole have sex then use verbal abuse on the main female character. Its pretty bad more than once. And she just takes like it's nothing but somehow decides she loves him

Oh my goodness what a rush!!! This was full of excitement, at one point I was so sure there wasn’t any chance of things working out!!
I loved Fang, he was fierce and hot but had such a broken and vulnerable side, I love a broken hero!!
Our heroine was great, she was strong and fierce on the outside but was so gentle of spirit, I don’t overly like a over the top ballsy heroine but Skylar was lovely.
I can’t wait for the next instalment.
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Such a wonderful read that will keep you turning the pages! Fang is such a grumpy but sweet dragon who just stole my heart! Skylar is definitely not what you would think. Loved watching the relationship grow between these two. So many great characters and a wonderful storyline. A very enjoyable and intriguing story that I highly recommend! This is my honest opinion of this complimentary copy of this book

Hot and steamy!!!

I really enjoyed this book. I liked it better than Hunters book. Fang was a but hole at the beginning and the middle but in great story telling fashion he gets his act together. Thank goodness. Skylers character develops well from rich girl...daddy will save me too I'm woman hear me Roar!!!! I liked that I didn't see that coming and enjoyed the story and how it developed. Keep up the great work Charlene!!!!

A tough road for Skylar and Fang

This is book two and it focuses on Skylar and Fang. Skylar is read to mind lock with a dragon. Some of her fellow tributes are worried about the process and just want to go home. Skylar is running from home and is determined to match with a dragon. Well something unexpected happens between Skylar and Fang’s dragon but Fang is not pleased. A little more world building information is revealed but not answers to burning questions. Read On!

widower and a blossomed

Great story about how one has to overcome tragedy and one has to over come years of control. The characters are lovely and you see the writing on the wall when things heat up between them. There is some predictable turns in the story but others you just really HATE the character. Good reading pace and wonderful follow up. I am ready for the next tribute story. Love all of this authors books even the auditable versions!

The first 80% of this book was a 4 star...then something odd happened and it quickly turned into a 3 star 🤦🏾‍♀️

Skylar and Fang's story was so good, that enemies to lovers romance that I always enjoy. Then the plot got very random, especially at the ending. Talk about being left in the dark! The author did mention that their story would properly conclude in the 3rd novel but that annoyed me a bit.

Ah well, not a bad way to round out 2023!

Yes, yes, yes! Better than book 1

I totally enjoyed Skyler and Fangs story.

Watching their love blossom was amazing. Glad Fang got his head out his dragon 🐉 tail and went and got his girl.

So many characters to keep track of, though.

Now, that we know the Reds were really there for Skyler, where is Jen and others lost in the mist?

Are they really Savages or is the Council lying?

Happy for the HEA but we need answers...

Not as good as it could have been. The hard headed shifter and the rich daddy's girl seemed like a unlikely match. Skylar fought to remain on the island once she got a taste of not being manipulated by her father. Freedom felt good and she liked choices of her own destiny. Now if Fang would help her bond with his dragon they could fight the war. There's very little war in this series and way too much sex.

Wow, another one I couldn't put down. Fang was like a typical male who didn't want to be tied down, but couldn't control his wants. A pull push situation most of the story through. He couldn't turn off his desires. He stayed pissed off for more then half the book. Either he was pissed at her or his dragon or himself. poor guy just can't get his shit straight, until he finally gets what he wants and she has to leave the island and return back to the life she had before.

Excellent!

I cared so much about the characters that I actually was anxious at some points in the story. My favorite thing about a well written book is when I get lost in it.
The only criticism I have is that some details were left dangling at the end. Hopefully some of the answers about questions that are left dangling are answered in the next book, even though Skyler and Fang’s story is left in a good place.

Great Story

The storyline had a lot going on; so interesting. Had a hard time putting it down. I love books about dragon shifters. The characters except one were likable. I hope these books come to audiobooks with a couple of really good narrators. Looking forward to the next book!
