Getting pregnant by a hockey player at eighteen was never part of the plan.

Neither was working for my dad's new hockey team when I return from boarding school.I'm Jenny, a Cali girl with a famous YouTube channel, tasked with cleaning up the image of a womanizing player.

Simple enough, if he wasn't the guy who broke my heart four years ago, Roman.

That summer was the best of my life; I felt weak in the knees from the moment he looked at me with that irresistible smile and kissed me with those hungry lips.

I wanted to give long distance a try, but when that incriminating photo of him and that blond went viral, I swore never to speak to him again.

Now, I hope I can keep my hands to myself and the truth about my son hidden.

Because I am about to find out it was all a setup by the last person, I would expect to do such a thing to me.

Forbidden Score is a steamy standalone hockey romance and book 2 of the Hollywood Hurricanes series with all your favorite enemies to lovers, secret baby, second chance, brother's enemy, he falls first. The story contains relatable characters, lots of heat, swoon, tension, multiple plot twists, and HEA guaranteed!

Synopsis:
In Forbidden Score, the POV belongs to Roman Adams and Jenny Edwards. Roman is a hockey all-star on the Hollywood Hurricanes and Jenny is the owner's daughter. When Jenny comes home for the summer from boarding school she meets Roman who is new to the Hollywood Hurricanes and professional hockey. Jenny and Roman end up developing a relationship after getting to know each other better, despite Jenny's father warning her against letting her guard down around the guys on the team, the two continue to have secret dates with stolen kisses. Unfortunately, after Jenny returns to school, Roman is traded to a new city team and the media leaks a photograph of Roman in Tennessee with another woman, leading to the destruction of their relationship. Four years later, Jenny is now a mother to a three year old boy, and Roman makes a return to his hometown and former team, forced to relive his past, and change the image of his future. What could go wrong?

Review:

While Lark has an incredible way of writing the sexual tension between Roman and Jenny, I felt like the pacing of the books was severely rushed and filled with various plot holes or just plot lines that didn't make sense four pages later. I caught myself having to go back and re-read something because I thought I skimmed over a few sentences too fast, when in reality, what I had read was countered by what I was currently reading. For instance, at the start of the book we find Roman in a bar with his teammates, a night of bonding as he was recently traded from Hollywood to Nashville in a gut blowing move possibly motivated by Roman's rivalry with former teammate (and older brother of Jenny) Jay Edwards. Then as the chapter ends and we get to read from Jenny's POV there is no indication of how much time has passed or that it had passed at all. We are instantly teleported to a car ride with Jenny, her brother Jay, his wife Mara, and Evan. It isn't outright said who Evan is or his age, though at the start I thought he was a teenager or something. Later it's noted that Evan is the three year old son of Jenny and his father is still unknown. Still in Jenny's POV, she stands firm that Evan's father will remain a mystery, only a few pages go by before it's made obvious that it's Roman, not that I was hoping for a grand reveal, but it was also strange that Roman took zero time to claim Evan as his son. While I shouldn't be upset by that, I felt like a lot of the drama from the book was leaked way too soon, leaving me craving just a bit more mystery even though I already knew the direction of the story.

Because Roman and Jenny already shared a history of a whirlwind romantic past, it was only a matter of time before the two would end up in each other's arms once more lusting after each other. While I can't say that romantic scenes were particularly "spicy", I will say that it was lust filled. The desire of being away from each other for so many years, not having full closer between them, so the door to an equally forbidden sexual encounter is still wide open.

Roman and Jenny were definitely written well for each other. They both struggled with trusting one another due to the abrupt end to their courting which was the main cause of the miscommunication between them into adulthood. Jenny and Roman both had no idea how to navigate expressing their feelings to each other, let alone now that a child was in the mix. You root for them to find common ground and be with each other, but at the same time you kind of hope that Jenny would have more power over herself as she builds her strength to stand up for herself against the harsh will of her father and the over protectiveness of her older brother.

It was great finding that Roman wasn't the womanizer the media made him out to be, he was simply misunderstood and had no power over his own image, as made clear with his PR makeover, helmed by Jenny. He always held a flame for Jenny and his excursions for the past 4 years were just him attempting to forget the sweet girl he was forced to leave behind.

One thing I didn't really like was the dramatic "twist". Finding out that Roman was set up in Nashville to look like he had easily gotten over Jenny, was a bit of a mood killer for me. It was of course something I didn't actually see coming, but I was curious as to how the importance of Roman getting drugged that night would come to play later. The person who masterminded the demise of Jenny and Roman's start of their relationship just felt cheap.

Although Lark probably wrote this book specifically for the sexual and R rated material, I believe had she given herself more time to fully develop the characters, the full weight of the plot, along with the middle and end, this could have been a much more compelling story with cohesive heart and soul.
Instead I was left with a partial story, heart and soul very disconnected, non-cohesive plot lines, and a plethora of grammatical mistakes.

Overall, I did enjoy this book more than I thought I would, though I feel like I could have really loved this book if more time and editing was given, rather than a last minute rush job to meet the publishing deadline.

I hope that once this book is fully released, a little more workshopping will have taken place to fix some of the inconsistencies with in the story and the very much avoidable grammatical errors.

Would I read this book again? Absolutely! It filled my desire for something steamy, for something wholesome. It filled my love of fast romance that comes with a happy ending.
It makes me excited to read more from Amelia Lark, and heck, it made me realize that I do enjoy Sports Romance. Just give me a little bit more spice!

Great job!

Forbidden Score by Amelia Lark-

This is a short, sports romance novella, less than 200 pages.

There could have been some potential here but I feel like way too many things were shoved into this book, especially considering the length of it. Because of this, the events and time progression of the plot feel rushed. There isn’t enough backstory on our main characters. Plot twists feel like they were thrown in as an afterthought, with no planning, rhyme or reason. I’m guessing they were added to try and add something interesting and exciting to the story.

The main characters are immature and under developed, as well as the support characters. The book and plot don’t feel like they were thought out or structured. The language and conversations are pretty basic. If I didn’t know better, I would think that this was written by a youngster in middle school or high school. The writing came across as pretty elementary.

The small bit of actual sports writing was decent. The description of the plays on ice were done satisfactorily. If I were the author I would go back to the drawing board and really focus on plot and character development. After that, way down the line, I would look at making this a full novel instead of a novella.

4.5 ⭐️

This book surprised me in the best way! I'm not always a fan of the secret baby trope, but I loved it in this one. That, along with the enemies to lovers aspect was perfect.

I really liked that both of the characters had their own struggles, and that Roman was not really the womanizer the media portrayed him as. Also, the tension between the two was so spicy and suffocating, I loved it. Although the book felt rushed at times, I believe that was mainly because of the second chance aspect (which isn't my favorite) but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I can't wait to read more books by Amelia Lark, because this one was so good!

Thank you so much Amelia Lark for providing us with an ARC in exchange for an honest review! <3

This is a hockey romance with the following tropes: Forced Proximity, He Falls First, Secret Baby, Enemies to Lovers, HEA.

I LOVED this book! I was lucky enough to have scored a free copy; this is an honest review. Before I jump in to why this was such a great read, there are a few things you should know: As a romance reader there are three big things I care about when I read a book: The point of view (POV). Who is telling the story? The plot. Is it predictable? Has it been done before? The spice. Is there any? How soon? How spicy? If you’re interested in reading more about why I’ve given it FIVE STARS, please read on.

Forbidden Score is told from two points of view, by the female main character (Jenny) and male main character (Roman). I’m a fan of character POV, so this didn’t disappoint! Both characters were well-written and to be honest, I’m a little in love with Roman myself. He may come off as your typical hockey MMC but he’s like a Tootsie pop, if you know what I mean 😉 Jenny has strong single mom vibes, but she isn’t out there trampling anyone. Another words, she isn’t over-bearing, but she holds her own.

I’m not going to summarize the plot because you can get that from the blurb/synopsis. No spoiler alerts from me! I haven’t read a ton of romances with the secret baby trope because honestly, it’s not really my jam. However, this was amazing. Even though we’ve got enemies-to-lovers with a HEA this wasn’t predictable. When I say it’s a great story, it’s a great story.

Lastly, this book is spicy and isn’t a slow burn by any means. I am giving the spice a 4/5 because it’s a good balance of plot and spice. I reserve my 5/5 spice for next-level hot. Jenny and Roman have amazing chemistry and the spice is well-written – which I am EXTREMELY thankful for!!

I am starting to love this type of book, where there is a baby involved. Amelia Lark made me love this book even more. She covered all basis of enemies to lovers, secret baby, hockey romance, the man falling first, the forced proximity, the angst, the banter, the push and pull between MCs, their past, their present, the everything in this book is such a great read!! Quick read and I wish there was more to these characters. I absolutely want to read more about them, Like I need a part two of JUST THEM!!!
Roman just has this thing with him I can’t explain. Like he knows how to truly stand up for himself and when he tries to get what he needs and wants he knows how to go after it, especially with how he shows his true emotions to Jenny. Ugh! I would melt!! I think Jenny had such a strong heart and kept herself on her toes because she did not let up! She had such a strong hold with her characteristics. Amelia definitely made it known!
“I know who you are Jenny, I see you” UGH, something about a man admitting that he sees her. 🥹🥹🥹
The plot twist was something I did not expect! Woo what a great read!! I fell in love with their dynamic!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I enjoyed this book for the most part. However, it seemed a bit rushed. There were gaps that lead to jumps in the plot that made the book difficult to follow along with.

I did love Jenny’s tenacity and I really liked Roman as well. I was happy to read the progress and even happier with the ending of the book but I just wish more would’ve happened between the beginning and end. More fillers if you will.

Even some of the spicy scenes jumped from point A to point E to point H then Z.

I would’ve liked them to be a bit more detailed from beginning to end instead of jumping all over the place.

I still would recommend for someone who likes spicy romance, or the tropes involved in this book, or especially someone who wants to try out sports romances.

Loved it!

Such a gripping read! It's about Jenny, a California girl who had a summer fling with a hockey player named Roman when she was eighteen. They planned to do the long-distance thing, but then a viral photo messed things up. Big plot twist towards the end! Jenny kept their son, Evan, a secret.
Four years later, Roman's back in town with his playboy hockey star reputation. And Jenny is forced to work with him. There's a lot of tension, secrets, and witty back-and-forth. Can they reconnect and make things work this time? It's a story of love, redemption, and second chances that you won't be able to put down!

As I was doing the rating just now, I was half tempted to do my regular 4(.5) but then I thought of the and was like what the heck, let's give it the 5 it deserves.

Being an arc reader has been amazing, being able to read books before they are out is something else.

Being about to read, the book I question by Amelia Lark, before it even comes out was honestly a dream. I love me some hockey Romance. This books was that and more.

That being said, you should give it a read when it comes out. (:

I loved the book, I wanna say it was cute and fluffy. But I'd be lying and I don't wanna do that. SO, GIVE IT A READ AND FIND OUT WHAT I ALREADY KNOW! 🙂📚

I quite enjoyed this romance. Jenny and Roman were in a relationship but that all went downhill when it seems that he cheated on her. Pregnant and alone, Jenny opts to raise this child on her own. When they meet again years later, the chemistry is still there, but there is a ton of hurt between them. As Jenny and Roman navigate their relationship, feeling and secrets come out. I quite liked both characters though did find Jenny a tad immature. However, the story was entertaining and there were a few surprises that kept the book interesting.

ARC review

I thought this book had A LOT of potential. The story line was there, the spice was there but there were just some things that I felt were rushed and other things that I felt were very forced such as the mention of the MMC's anxiety out of the blue and when the relationship is starting back up without ANY of their issues being resolved.

I enjoyed the forbidden relationship and the secret baby and the second chance romance all of that was great there were just a lot of flow issues and lack of plot development in places.

Sweet angst plus steamy seconds chance romance

This is a good forced proximity/second-chance romance between MCs who have chemistry, and history. There was an incident that blew up their relationship, but not all is what it seems. Secrets are revealed, and despite obstacles they make things work. I found this book entertaining and engaging.

What a wonderful change of pace for me. This is a hockey romance but you get a lot more than that. You'll get love, some loss and reconnection with some unexpected surprises along the way. Can a love from years ago spark again? It's a super fast read because you'll have a hard time putting it down.

Lets preface this with the fact that I'm always in the mood for a sports romance. I love a good pregnancy Trope however I will say I'm never a huge fan of "I didn't tell him I was pregnant and now it's been a couple years later". But I went in with an open mind. This book was written very well and held my attention throughout.

Likes: Love that Jenny is a youtuber with a large following.

Dislikes: They both seem a little childish, although I know they're both pretty young.
Ending seemed a little rushed.

I give this book a solid 3.5 stars and would absolutely recommend it.

Jenny was just 18 years old when she got pregnant by a local hockey player. She never told him that she was pregnant when they broke up. Many years later, her son is now four years old, and Jenny is now working for her father's hockey team. She is assigned to help salvage the reputation of a hockey player named Roman. Roman is the father of Jenny's son. Roman and Jenny realize that they still have an attraction to each other. Are they going to be able to make their relationship work out, or will the regrets and secrets of the past keep them apart?

This book has the tropes of enemies to lover, secret baby, and hockey romance. I loved the character of Jenny, and she is a great mother. The bond between Jenny's son and Roman was so cute to watch come together. The spice in the book is hot. I recommend this book and look forward to reading other books by Amelia Lark.

Great 2nd Chance forbidden love story. I really enjoyed this book. Jenny and Roman had a secret relationship when Jenny was 18. Through Roman being traded to another part of the country and some tabloid press Jenny is heartbroken and does not let him know she is pregnant. 3 years later Roman is back. Their attraction to each other is hard for them to ignore. Can they get over the fact that Jenny his his son from him and can Jenny forgive him of his transgressions to build a new and better love. Add the dynamic of her father being his teams owner they have a lot to overcome. The story was told in a believable way and I was rooting for them. I would recommend. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
