The sequel to one of the most popular Fear Street titles, with nearly 500,000 copies in print. Deena and Jade are up to their old tricks, despite their vow to stop the phone pranks. Then the ominous call comes: “I’m getting out soon,” the voice says, “and when I do, I’ll come after you.” Now the girls fear someone is out to kill them!

The Wrong Number starts off with a prologue just like the first book ,only this time it's a dream sequence of all the events that took place in the first book. We then cut to our two protagonist Deena and her friend Jade, hanging out in her room. They're talking about hair. Kinda similar to the first book. Deena finds a letter addressed to her friend and soon discovers it's from Chuck and worse then that jade hasn't even been writing back. Jade leaves to get snacks and tells Deena to answer the phone when it rings and we get our first call from our anonymous prankster. we then cut to a basketball game and Deena sees a guy in a orange hat and she wonders who it is . It turns out it's just Chuck who dropped out of college and is wanting to run away to California to make movies. the girls then get a letter in the mail and it has a drawing of a bloody chainsaw. They also get another prank call the caller initiating that he wants revenge and they know all about what happened at the Farberson house. They automatically think that it is Mr. Farberson, but how is he making theese calls? he's in prison. They then come up with this idea to find out who's really making these calls.Their idea is to go to the Farbison house and seeing if anybody is over there, but they don't make it inside the house because a car chases them off and then we get a really awesome car chase scene. Deena saw who was driving the car and they decide to make a visit to this person's house with wigs and all just like the first book. They then learn that Farberson hid some money in his house before he went to prison. wrong number 2 is not as good as the first one but I will say I did enjoy it for the most part .The only complaints I have is alot of the things that happend are the exact same as what happend in the first book.I also didn't like the reveal of who was doing the phone calls and the letter because that was really the big mystery of the entire book. Also the pacing is a little all over the place, but with that being said there is a chainsaw death scene in this book and I never thought I'd see that in a Fear Street book not to mention I actually liked Deena she was a pretty developed character. Jade and chuck both suck though. I give Wrong Number 2 a four out of five stars.
It's funny how quickly I can read these now - I still enjoy them, though! It's also funny how character names pop up and I still know what stories they're from. I really do owe a lot to RL Stine, and I'm enjoying these nostalgic readthroughs! Now I need to find more!
This definitely wasn’t nearly as good as the first one. A lot of the scenes are actually a regurgitation of the first novel. Because of that, you already know a lot of what will happen next. Aside from that, I still found it entertaining and would recommend it to others.
Deanna and Jade live to see another day from the original Wrong Number story. In this chilling sequel, it's a year later and the two girls receive a special phone call, promising revenge. Conveniently, the murderer they put away in the first book is now out of jail. Could it be him that's out for their blood?
Like the first book, this horror/thriller/murder mystery keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. Who is really after them? Though they lived through the first book, will they make it through this one?
Fans of movies like Scream, and I Know What You Did Last Summer would probably find this book entertaining. It is geared towards the young adult crowd, but this series isn't afraid to take risks. People die, and there is a surprise death at the end of this book. Of course, you have to read to find out.
Like Book 1, I recommend the sequel as well. In some ways it is better because you are familiar with the characters and even more attached since it's two books instead of just one.
Don't read this if you were a fan of the original. It is basically a choppy retread of the first, as well as absurd in premise: Farber is somehow out of jail, even though if I remember right, he was convicted of killing his wife for double indemnity, if I'm remembering right, and the parents don't believe the teens who were right about a MURDER from the first one, for the reason that they still deem Chuck to be trouble (even though Chuck is morally above Jade, who for her part is cheating on Chuck, while he's been away at college). Only read if you were hardcore Fear Street fan, which I used to be. So much money wasted on these...
The two girls from The Wrong Number come back again in another mystery.
This is a good book I can not really remember what happened, but I know it was good. I know thats kinda funny how you can read a book and not remember the book but still know you liked it.
First book of R.L Stine that i've ever bought. My copy now has broken cover.
Anyway...
This one's thrilling. Satisfied my day again after re-reading it. It's been two years and yet i still like Chuck's character. haha. Story line is of course, creepy and twisted.
The Wrong Number 2 was a sequel in search of a story. RL Stine has said himself that the only lessons in his books are to run. That couldn’t be more evident than in this book, as the entire plot relied on Chuck having learned absolutely nothing from his ordeal in the first Wrong Number. So the entire thing was just a cascade of terrible decisions. This is by far and away my least-favorite literary plot device. I get that there are stupid people in real life, but I don’t need to be reading books about them. This was all the more frustrating because I liked Chuck in the first book. I did like the way some of the events in the first book were reframed with new context, and Deena and Jade were the lone highlights with their Nancy Drew moments, but there really wasn’t much else to like. I was a little bit confused at how different Jade looks on the cover of this book compared to the first. It almost seems like she was recast, for lack of a better word. Maybe Stine just forgot what she looked like, or maybe she just got a perm but I’m not convinced. The fact that I’m even mentioning it in this blurb speaks to how little this book gave me to go on. The Wrong Number 2 was, at best, a tedious slog. It was a struggle to finish. Sequels are definitely not Stine’s strong suit.
It goes without saying but I'll go ahead and say it...
If you have not read The Wrong Number, there WILL be spoilers.
Even though it is seperated by years in between, in the Shadyside-Fear Street universe it has only been one year.
A year of terrible nightmares for Deena Martinson as she can still picture herself and her BFF Jade Smith holding on for dear life to a tree being sawn down by a madman named Stanley Faberson.
A prank call to the wrong number by Deena's half-brother Chuck had the three teens hear the last screams of Faberson's wife before she was murdered. It was supposed to be a set-up but rough yet good hearted Chuck had to go and help the woman when she begged for help.
The girls in tow, they arrived to find Edna Faberson dead and a man in a ski mask within the house.
To protect Deena and Jade and himself, Chuck made the ill-fated decision to use the murder weapon as a way of self-defense. Having been in trouble before, Chuck's fingerprints were in the system and he was arrested.
Deena and Jade did their best to clear Chuck's name and discovered it was all part of a plan for Faberson to take his wife's money before she could leave him, kill her and then run away with the bookkeeper at his restaurant, Linda Morrison, and money embezzled from his own business.
Faberson is in jail and Chuck is away at college while Jade and Deena are still at Shadyside High.
Jade doesn't seem to be as troubled by the past and doesn't seem to be pining away for Chuck as she is going out with basketball player Teddy Miller. Deena can't help but be a little miffed since Chuck is her brother but confident and gorgeous Jade always has the guys while Deena can't even keep one boyfriend.
There are things more important to worry about when Deena answers the phone on Jade's private line and hears a man threatening her, convinced it is Jade. Deena thinks it is Faberson but Jade isn't bothered as everyone in town knows all about what happened last year.
That is until a call is made to Deena's own home phone with the same rough voice and things that only Deena, Jade and Faberson would know of that night he tried to kill the girls in his home.
The rest of the story is a bunch of Jade and Chuck drama when he is back in Shadyside after dropping out of college and drama between Chuck and his dad for the aforementioned incident.
The A-plot is still a pretty good thriller, suspense-mystery but I am still wondering if The Wrong Number really needed a sequel. The only character from the first book that had any kind of change is Deena in being more paranoid and damaged.
Jade is still a flirt and Chuck is still a bad-tempered hothead making the wrong decisions. They change by the end of this one but only Deena growing more confident is the best takeaway you can get.
I'm knocking off one star to a 4 star review from my previous five because everything else is great about The Wrong Number 2 but I guess my rose-colored nostalgia glasses just aren't as rosy for this particular Fear Street book.
As sequels go, this was very good. It's not a repeat of the first one nor is it completely different. The revelation at the end was cool. Chuck is still troubled. I don't know why because he seemed to be fine at the end of the previous book.
This wasn’t as good as the first one. The set-up wasn’t as interesting and I was bored half of the time. It finally got kind of exciting in the last bit, but then the book just ended. Also, I didn’t think I could hate Chuck more than I did in the first book. Apparently, though, I was wrong. Somebody just off this man already because I couldn’t stand another line of his dialogue. He was just so damn obnoxious that I found myself hoping that he’d get killed in one of the next few chapters or so.
This is a prose novel from the “Fear Street” original book series AND a sequel to the first book “The Wrong Number”
FAIR SEQUEL ON FEAR STREET
Since I read The Wrong Number just a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it so much, I thought that it was appropiate to engage reading the sequel, and while it isn’t that good as the first novel, it’s still a fair good reading and it was cool to visit again the characters.
Deena Martinson is still in Shadyside High School, along with her best friend Jade Smith (even there is an extremely cool cameo of Corky Corcoran (heroine of the Fear Street Cheerleaders saga) during a basketball game, she is cheerleading the event), while Deena’s half-brother Chuck is on college…
…but soon that it will change since Chuck isn’t doing that great on college and he’s looking for making a trip to Los Angeles and trying to get into the movie business.
However, Deena and Jade will start to receive mysterious phone calls, threatening their lives, mysterious car chasing them, but…
…that’s not the real problem…
…but that the criminal from the first book is pulling some legal issue on the conviction to get release and be free again!!!
Deena, Jade and Chuck lives are in danger again…
…and they will visit again…
…FEAR STREET…
…for doing a treasure hunt about a large amount of money that it will mess even worse the scenario for our young heroes.
It was an entertaining reading, it was cool to visit again the character from the first book, but there were fewer prank calls, and no murders at all...
...but I have to admit that there is quite a bunch of twists...
...therefore, this isn’t as good as the first book (that I think it was truly great) but if you enjoyed the first novel, you will find engaging to read this sequel.
I recently received this book in a lot due to a school library being renovated. I had heard the hype of the fear street novels thanks to the Netflix series but never read any of the books, nor have I ever watched the series. Growing up in the 90s, Goosebumps and Fear street were all the rage growing up, but I never cared for reading in elementary school.
Now, I’m in mid 30’s and enjoying reading and sort of action adventure thriller, and figured I would read some of the fear street books I received. In the lot, Wrong Number 2 was included and I decided to give this one a read. At 165 pages I was able to wrap this up in a day and a half and I have to say, it was a complete joy to read!
A lot of the reviews I have read on this book, land around 3 stars and criticize the book heavily. My question is, What did you expect? It’s a horror/action book for teenagers. Of course it’s not going to be anything life changing. The book reads like a 80s thrasher movie, and had me wanting to read just one more chapter.
I hate to admit it, but this teen horror novel, has me excited to read the next few I have. I didn’t think this book would suck me in the way it did, but it really did. A fun, quick read that will leave you wanting to read more in the series. Easy to see why this series was a huge success back in the day!
Even though Stanley Farberson is in jail for the murder of his wife, and trying to kill Deena Martinson and Jade Smith, the two girls fear that he may have somehow escaped when they start to receive ominous phone calls that repeat facts that only Farberson could know.
A Fear Street book I haven't read before! There are actually a couple, lol. This was neither the worst of the series, nor one of the best. It's perfectly acceptable thriller entertainment, with the usual cliffhanger chapter endings, and a smattering of fairly decent plot twists. The action and excitement is basically non-stop from start to finish for its brief length, so it's never boring. I can't think of much else to say! The fact it holds up fairly well when reading it for the first time as an adult is probably high praise. If you enjoy Fear Street, this delivers what you know and expect.
The Wrong Number saw a prank end in murder, 22 books later we re-visit Deena and Jade. The girls are gearing to end high school and move on to college, ready to move past the horror of one year ago. Except, the threatening phone calls start...Chuck is back with his own drama and only adds to the mix by egging the girls to return to Farbeson's home and look for the money he's supposedly left behind. They don't learn until too late that he's been released from prison and is out for revenge on the three teens that locked him up. It was a worthy follow-up to the first Wrong Number. There was high suspense low horror and gore.
It's been a year since Deena and Jade's terrifying ordeal on Fear Street. Despite the flashbacks, everything seems to be going fine. That is until the girls start getting threatening calls. Deena also notices someone following them.
Could it possibly be the man responsible for all the horrible events last year?
Wrong Number 2 definitely had some Scream vibes and was actually pretty entertaining.
I did think a few parts seemed unlikely after what happened in book one. But Stine found a good balance of making this second book a bit different while also keeping it a bit the same.
Both books are in the would recommend pile for me.
Snippet: This was actually a pretty good sequel, which I wasn’t expecting. I’m glad it wasn’t a repeat of the first one and instead expanded on its story in a way that didn’t feel contrived or unrealistic. I’m glad Stine went a less predictable route. I feel like this wasn’t as dark as the original, but it was still a good little mystery and a super easy read, so I’d recommend it for sure.
Check out my full review linked up top for an in-depth recap :)
in 2013 my local library was getting ride of all paperback books and they had all the R.L. Stine / Christopher Pike books so I bought all of them and read them with a massive teen book marathon .. I really hope that a whole new generation of teens gets to fall in love with these books !!! as they are simply the best I loved all of these books in my teens .. :) and I really enjoyed going down memory lane re reading them as an adult ... :)
