According to town gossip, I’m a grumpy mountain man.
They are right.
What I am not is a beach Barbie babysitter.
Yet, that is exactly what is going to happen.

After 10 years as an Army Ranger, all I want is the peace I find in my mountain cabin.
Winter is approaching.
I’m looking forward to long hours of reading in front of the fire.

What I am not expecting.
My best friend asking me to safeguard the woman who means the world to him.
All winter long.

She is gorgeous.
Fashionable.
Way too bubbly.
AND… from the city.

There are so many reasons why this woman is off-limits.
Yet, I can’t stop thinking about her.
I won’t lose my heart to the only woman who has ever made me want more.
She is heartbreak wrapped in a dark red bow.
I don’t believe in happily ever afters.
Do I?

This is a CLEAN heartwarming tale of love, healing, and the transformative power of embracing differences.

*Reader's Note: This is an ex-military story. There are several mentions of trauma and injuries the men endured. There are no gore or graphic descriptions, but the situations described could trigger some readers.

Deanna Lilly is the author of heartwarming clean romance novels that always end with a happily ever after.

She drinks way too much tea, loves anything with peach, and forest bathes whenever she needs to destress.

As a struggling reader who grew up on a secluded farm without television, Deanna had to rely on her imagination for entertainment, and every one of her stories included a prince charming or knight in shining armor. After 20 years as a public school literacy and special education teacher, Deana decided to take a leap of faith and share some of her stories with the world.

If she isn’t in her office or out in her hammock writing, she can be found baking in the kitchen, hiking in the Smokey Mountains, or relaxing at the beach. She currently lives on the west coast of Florida with her husband and their 19-year-old Manx cat, Harley, who is totally queen of the castle.

I was given a free copy and am voluntarily giving a review

This book was so cute and charming. Sarah switch house with her best friend and move to the cabin the woods in hope of getting over her writers block . She falls on her trek in the woods and her neighbors dog finds her which she mistakes for a wolf.
The neighbor takes care of her during the storm and while injury heals

I loved seeing Sarah and Eric grow together . An ex military forced proximity, grumpy bright to name a few tropes.

They are both artists In Different ways and have common interests but have been burned in the past and are slow to open up to love.
The dog personality is adorable and see how two people are different but grow to love and accept each other for who they are.
Book ends in a happy ever after and I recommend

Sarah swaps homes for the winter with her best friend becoming neighbors with Eric. When she falls while hiking his dog finds her. Sarah stays at Eric's cabin until she heals and the storm passes. Past hurts get in the way. First impressions are broken. This was an easy fun read. I look forward to Tom's story. I received an ARC copy from the author. Review voluntarily given.

I loved.
Sweet, clean romance and language. Enjoy everything about it, special the brother-sister relationship between Tom and Sarah, and how much they know and care for each other.

Seems Sarah needs a break from her blocking writing and Tom needs to help his mom move, they switch places, Sarah goes to the Mountains in Whispering Falls and Tom goes to the beach in Florida.
Sarah finds more than she thought, between finding inspiration and rest, she also finds herself in the care of Eric, a grumpy mountain man friend of Tom, when she got hurt. But beneath his rough exterior, there was a man with a beautiful heart.
Can their new friendship be more? Can she be the one for him? Can he be what she needs in her life? Can she accept him the way he is? Find out what happened next.
I also like the way the author picks Eric's character, - the grumpy mountain man who chooses the little white dog (Bear) from Ellen's rescue center in the 'Unexpected Homecoming' story at the end. Good move.
I received an advance free copy through Bookfennel of this book and I voluntarily left an honest review.

I loved this book. Sarah and Eric’s story was heartwarming and easy to read. Sarah is an author who is going through writers block and looking for a change in scenery. She suggests to her best friend Tom to house swap for a few months. She would go to his home in the mountains and he would come to her condo on the beach. Little did she know that she would not only get out of her writing block but meet the grumpy mountain man neighbour and fall in love. These two were made for each other and Eric the gentle giant found his match with the feisty city girl. Highly recommend. I was given an ARC if this book for leaving my honest review.

Sarah and Eric are both friends with Tom. Sarah has been life long friends with Tom and both their mothers are friends too. Eric and Tom both live in cabins on the mountain just outside of Hickory Falls, having met in the army and then when they both recuperated after being injured during conflict. Sarah a writer with writers block decides when Tom has to help settle his mom into her new home to trade homes for a couple of months to help her refocus on her writing. After meeting Eric and realising how grumpy he is, she decides maybe keeping her distance is best. That is before she falls and hurts herself and the rescued by Eric. There is a part in the book that says "When I start a book, I want to make a world that grabs people. Making characters and stories that people can relate to like solving a big word puzzle." That is very true in this book book lead characters are flawed and some difficult issues are discussed. All are dealt with compassion and understanding. I throughly enjoyed this having never read any of Deanna's books before I'm hoping for more in this series. I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC copy and this is my own honest opinion and review of the book. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did l.

The Grumpy Mountain Man is a sweet, slow burn, grumpy-sunshine, forced-proximity romance. Sarah is a strong, independent, famous author who lives in Florida. Eric is a hunky, grumpy mountain man who lives in Massachusetts. Both Sarah and Eric are friends with Tom. Tom is Sarah's best friend from when they were younger. Eric and Tom served in the military together and now live on the same mountain. Tom's mom has recently moved to FL, so he and Sarah decided to house swap for 3 months. She needs a change of scenery and he can spend time with his family. Tom asks Eric to keep an eye on Sarah, and he reluctantly agrees. When she ends up injured, he and his dog bear come to her rescue. As they spend time together, their friendship and attraction grow. Both have been hurt before and are reluctant to let others in. But they are so good for each other. We also end up with a very happy ending, and Bear is so sweet! This was a great read.

Eric doesn’t stand a chance matching his grumpy with Sarah’s sweetness and perkiness. A house swap between Sarah, a novelist with writer’s block in Florida and her best friend, Tom, in Massachusetts who needs to visit his family in Florida, puts Sarah under the reluctant watchful eye of Eric. A former army ranger he just wants to be left alone following a severe injury but he can’t turn a blind eye to Sarah’s lack of preparedness to an approaching snow storm. This all results in a series of encounters that brings humor and romance into the picture. You will end up wanting to shout and shake all of them. I really enjoyed this story.

This was certainly a very cute story, a grumpy x sunshine in all its expression; Sarah and Erick struck me as a lovely couple.

Erick a grumpy but with a big heart lives alone in the mountains with his dog meets Sarah who is the best friend of his neighbor and she is a ray of sunshine who just wanted a quiet place to write her next mystery book and here by things of life they are trapped in Erick's house for a few days and the chemistry that grew? they are so different but at the same time so equal that left me sighing.

This story is full of overcoming and fighting for what you want and I really liked reading this.

Felt bad that Sarah had to move away from home to correct her writer's block. But changing her beach home with her friend Thomas' mountain cabin seemed like a wise move for both of them. I was glad that Eric, Thomas' neighbor, took care of Sarah's injuries and found his way into Sarah's life. They seemed to solve each other's problems. Their relationship developed over a reasonable length of time but Thomas coming back early really created a problem for Eric and Sarah. What happens next is believable and I was glad when Thomas figured out what was going on with his friends and stepped in.

I loved Eric. He seemed like the perfect guy, extremely capable, quiet and strong. Sarah and Eric brought out the best in each other. I loved how they complemented each other when working in the barn. And Bear the dog was so sweet. I'm looking forward to the second in the series - Tom's story. I received this book free in exchange for my honest review.

Love reading this book and enjoyed the characters in it. The H is a recluse who has isolated himself in a cabin in the mountains in Massachusetts. It once belonged to his grandfather. He has made changes to it so that the barn is now his workshop and is connected to the cabin. He is a skilled woodworker who designs and builds furniture. He also designs and makes other items all of which he sells via a website which his best friend and neighbor Tom set up for him. Tom’s mother is moving to Florida and has asked him to come and help her. The h is a long time BF of Tom’s and their families were close. The h is a successful author who has just finished the last book of a successful series and is suffering from writer’s block regarding her next series. When she hears that Tom’s mother is moving to Florida where she and her mother lives she suggests they swap houses so he can help his mother and she might overcome her writer’s block. Thus they exchange houses. The h loves Tom’s cabin and the forest in which he lives. He introduced her his neighbor and best friend but who is not interested in her. The BF becomes the H when he rescues the h when she injures herself when out walking. He ends up caring for her in his cabin until she is able to get around and take care of her self. As they live together in the cabin he discovers she is not the person he thought she was and he was not like she thought he was. He doesn’t know that she is the author or the series he so loved reading because she writes under a different name. During their time together she is able to write again and format her new series. He continues to build furniture and formulate new designs. The h is fascinated watching him work and at one point successfully helps him. He is really surprised at what she successfully did and impressed. After her ankle heals and the blizzard passes she returns to Tom’s cabin but they still continue to spend time together developing a deep relationship. When Tom returns a month early the H just shoves the h away. She is so hurt that she returns home immediately broken hearted. She is so hurt that she’s unable to eat properly and the work that she did on her next novel didn’t seem to be any good. The H is also suffering, not eating and not working like he used to. When Tom sees his best friends both failing he confronts the H and tells him that he needs to act, to tell the h how he feels. The h meanwhile has decided to sell her condo in Florida and buy a place near Tom in Massachusetts. Before she buys the place and moves the H goes to Florida and confesses his love and asks her to marry him. The h in turn tells him that she loves him and yes she will marry him. The h ends up living with Tom until they get married. H and h get their HEA. Including the H showing her after their wedding the bedroom set he made for them incorporating the picture she had drawn when they were together earlier. Enjoy this one sweet read!

Author: Deanna Lilly
Title: The Grumpy Mountain Man
Pages: 213
Genre: Contemporary Romance
More info: Amazon, Goodreads

The Grumpy Mountain Man by Deanna Lilly is a standalone contemporary romance.

Sarah has writer’s block and was unable to write anything since she finished her best-selling series. She needs a change of scenery, so she asks her friend Tom to swap houses. He can have her house in Florida, and she will move to his cabin close to a small town in New England.

Eric enjoying his life far away from everyone. His only friend is Tom, and his dog Bear. But his perfectly happy life turns upside down when he gets a new neighbor.

When Sarah has an accident and hurts her ankle Eric is more than happy to take care of her. Friendship form between the two of them, but what will happen when Sarah needs to get back to her old life?

Okay, so I bought more than 200 hundred books in December on the Stuff your Kindle Day. All the books I have read this year are from those free books. Unfortunately, I can’t say that I am happy with these books. I hope there at least a few good books because I promised myself, I won’t buy any books this year. I have around 300 on my Kindle.

So, about this book. Where should I start?

I didn’t like Eric’s character at all. There is a difference being socially awkward, and distant but he was just rude. He couldn’t make up his mind what he wants. And he acts like a child when something makes him uncomfortable.
Sarah seemed like a nice character, and I have no idea why she was putting up with this guy.

I felt like there were situations that were important but wasn’t explained enough and there were scenes that should be shorter and not last for pages. I also didn’t like that the author was jumping from one character’s thoughts to the other.

And then he is asking her to marry him? They spent together a few weeks. WEEKS. He goes to see her after being apart for months, angry with each other and she says yes? No. No. No.

I gave this book 3 stars. (Because I refuse to give less than 3, but my first thought was 1,5)

This is the 2nd book I’ve read by this author. I still have the same complaint/dislike and it’s that the author switches pov between characters left and right with no warning or distinction/separation like most other authors do. This makes it hard to follow sometimes as you’re trying to figure out who is thinking those things. It’s not enough to make me stop reading her books, but just a dislike on my part. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I accidentally read book 3 in this series without knowing that it was part of a series, so I did know the ending because of knowledge from book 3. So I would recommend reading these books in order. Tom and Sarah are best friends. Tom lives in the mountains in a cabin and Sarah lives in Florida by the beach. Tom’s mom wants him to come to Florida for 3 months, but he doesn’t want something to happen to his cabin while he’s gone. Sarah is a writer and is going through writer’s block, plus she can work anywhere. So she offers to trade places with him, he gets a free place to stay and someone to take care of his precious cabin, and she gets a change of scenery to hopefully help her writer’s block. Sarah flies out to get the tour and instructions about the cabin from Tom before he takes off. Tom takes Sarah over to meet his only neighbor, Eric, in case she needs anything while she’s there. Eric is an extreme introvert and doesn’t want to have to be watching out for this Barbie who clearly isn’t going to survive the winter up here. I won’t give any spoilers, but you will want to keep turning the pages as the drama between grumpy Eric and sunshine Sarah through the winter carries on. Can they co-exist as a favor to Tom? Can Sarah break through Eric’s grumpiness to have a friend, or more, while she’s up in her bff’s mountain cabin? You’ll have to read to find out!

Two seemingly different people come together when one has an accident and is rescued by the other and his dog. At first he appears to be gruff and unfriendly and he considers her to be just a city girl out out of her element. But as they spend time together both come to realize that their preconceived notions of each other are wrong and feelings start to develop and soon those feelings of friendship turn to love. But past experiences and secrets not shared may shatter this growing feeling developing between them. Can they communicate openly their feelings towards each other or will their fear of rejection if the
other doesn’t reciprocate the feelings they have keep them apart and keep them from having their happily ever after?

Once again Deanna weaves a beautiful story of love and the insecurities people have in relationships in a all too real story that anyone can sympathize and relate to! We’ve all been there that’s for sure! It’s a rare person who hasn’t- who has found their one and only the first time out and hasn’t had their heart broken previously.

I loved this story! It’s all about listening to your heart and when it’s been broken to give it another chance when the one who broke it shows up unexpectedly miles away from his home to ask forgiveness from you and for a second chance. Of course the fact you still love him helps you in giving him that second chance!

I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book for your reading pleasure! I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I did and I feel confident that you’ll tell your friends to get and read it as well!

It’s a great book!

Tom and Sarah are friends, while he is in the mountains of Massachusetts , she is in Florida. They swap homes as she is having writers block and his mom in Florida needs help. Eric is another mountain man and her new neighbor, but he is very quiet and likes to be alone. After a big snow, she is out walking and trips, falling down a sharp hill toward a river, twisting her ankle and more. Bear and Eric find her and she stays at his place so he can help her heal. I love her idea of adding cinnamon and vanilla to the coffee she makes for him as a thank you. Loved these characters, their love of visualizing art and crafting, like his woodworking, giving ideas and becoming each others muses. Both have strength and believe in themselves. They both love to read and she sees her book series on his shelf, but he does not know she is the author. Should she tell him? The storyline moves easily with entertaining situations that show how much they care and need to help. From setting up their first Christmas to trusting their love is strong enough to tackle anything that comes. Prepare some extra tissues because there are many times that so dear and then they turn around and sass, like the Barbie comments. Definitely hooked on this new series.

Their Destined Connection -
Sarah was only looking for a change in scenery to give her inspiration to combat her writers block, but fate had other ideas in store first her. However, Sarah’s plans took a different turn after she was introduced to her grumpy mountain man neighbour and his amazing dog. Eric was happy living his reclusive life with his dog, but his quiet life was disrupted after Sarah arrived. Taking care of Sarah was only meant to be a neighbourly act, but Eric’s feeling for her grew stronger as he really enjoyed spending time with her.

Unfortunately, Sarah and Eric’s insecurities, and failure to communicate, nearly cost them their chance at exploring a relationship, but their mutual friend decided to intervene and help them get back on track. Sarah and Eric finally acknowledged their feelings for each other and agreed to do everything possible to get the happiness they both deserved. This is a heartfelt romance story, with a feel-good ending, that is perfect for raising your spirits after a bad week at work. Grab a copy now and enjoy your Friday evening relaxation.

I loved this story! Eric and Sarah are lovely together ❤️

This book left me in a good mood. It's a funny, sweet, cozy, clean romance (no spice, language or violence) with beautiful and heartwarming moments. Eric was an interesting mystery since his name popped up in the other series. There is more to him than the stereotype implied by the title, The Grumpy Mountain Man, and I enjoyed seeing under his gruff exterior. I now appreciate Eric even more and understand why he's so important to and loved by his friends.

Eric and Sarah are wonderful together, equally balancing each other's personalities. They had a gradual friendship-to-love connection that was sweet and supportive. The vulnerable moments between them were especially touching. This was an adorable story of healing love.

It was especially nice to see how Sarah and Tom's relationship as best friends evolved. Eric also has a special bond with Tom, and it's satisfying to see this trio become stronger because of their love for each other.

You should check out Deanna Lilly's books if you like no spice, slow burn romances with protective heroes, found family, small towns, and happy endings.

Wonderful slow burn romance between two individuals who for different reasons have cut themselves off from others.

Eric suffered a childhood trauma which made him shy away from making connections. Then he was medically discharged from service following serious injuries. As a result he locked himself away on the mountain only letting in his best friend and army buddy Tom.

Sarah has had several relationships end badly so has stopped trying to find that special someone and just concentrate on her writing. However when her writer's block refuses to shift she offers to house sit for her best friend Tom in his mountain cabin.

Sarah overcomes Eric's alouf grumpy attitude with her positive sunshine personality. When she has an accident Eric has no intention of leaving her to cope alone and cares for her at his cabin. The forced proximity of a snow storm allows these two damaged individuals to move past their issues and realise the instant and deep attraction between them.

A fantastic heartfelt romance.

Sarah and Eric’s story. Yay! I must explain that I read this out of order of first release, so I got into the mountain men series from book two. They are all standalone stories as they primarily tell each of their stories but this means that I already met them and was thrilled to find out how they got to the mountains . Wonderful story. Sarah isn’t hitting her words to page. Writer’s block isn’t in it. So when her best friend Tom relents and offers her the house swap she craves while he heads to help out his mom , she grasps it with both hands.Eric is looking forward to his own bit of peace and finds a whole lot more than he expected when his Buddy tasks him with sitting a city girl…..Brilliant , immersive writing with marvellous descriptions and uber cute characters. Great work by this prolific author’s pen. Unputdownable story. I was forwarded this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review in my own thoughts.

I enjoyed this book from Deanna Lilly. It had a few moments with impulsive behavior that resulted in injury, but permanent damage was avoided.

The hero, Eric, was an Army Ranger, and the heroine, Sarah, was a famous author with writer's block. They both were close friends with Tom, who lived down the mountain from Eric. Sarah and Tom traded homes for 3 months, putting her in close proximity to Eric.

The plot is romantic, and the relationship develops gradually. The characters are well written, and I look forward to reading additional books in the series.

Love Hurts More when it's not Expressed

Sarah fell for Eric almost immeadeately as did he fall for her. Neither due to previous encounters with other, could express what was in their hearts to each other. Being drawn together due to an accident then a snow storm, thier love developed, but neither could open up to the other. When it was time to part, again neither could open their mouths, in the end causing deep hurt that neither wanted. Sarah's best friend Tom who was also Eric's best friend threatened to beat Eric to a pulp until he saw how bad off Eric was. Thanks to Tom he was able to reason with both yo talk. This was a very heart moving book.

It was a sweet book. The romance was swoony and the setting picturesque and pretty. There was nothing that caused me to dislike the book, and it was well written. However, from a Christian perspective, this was just a bit too secular for me. I can't pinpoint anything specific, I guess I just wasn't able to relate to the characters' worldview, so it wasn't as enjoyable a read for me. It's made me realize that I should stick to more Christian themed fiction and that the Grumpy/Sunshine trope isn't my favourite. But that's alright, for others I think it would be a great read, it just wasn't for me.

This author knows how to write very entertaining sweet romance books that get you hooked right away. When I read her books it takes me away from reality and into a fantasy place for a few hours. My husband is a cutie but he is no romantic mountain man!! In this story we see how two people can find love when they are not looking for it. Eric and Sarah are two completely different people though they both share a love for Tom. I also love the relationship between Tom and Sarah, two very good friends that are there for each other. It’s a strong bond that also brings a strong bond between Eric and Sarah. Very good read and I’m enjoying the series.

Her best friend wants to trade homes so he can go to his family reunion
So she goes to stay in his home - on the top of the mountain - in the winter - and she lives in Florida!!! When she goes for a walk, she falls when she sees a wolf!! Well, what looks like a wolf! And he sees her and picks her up and brings her home. And helps her heal . . . even though he wants nothing to do with women. LOVED this book. So much sizzle . . . and mystery . . . . SUPERB!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.

Good But…

This could’ve been better. I was expecting a grumpy hero but he really wasn’t. That would’ve been alright had it not been advertised in the title. More contractions would’ve helped smooth the dialog in a few places. There was very little conflict. Even the climax of the story fell a little flat.
But the story was clean and the MCs did stick to morals I applaud. The hero was a conscientious caregiver. The heroine was a feisty go-getter. It’s just a shame there was so little conflict and so little learning and growth.

Wow. What a great story from the very first few pages you are captured into a story that grows ever more intriguing. It’s a story that is a delight to read and share. I found myself wishing I could see the beauty of the mountain as well as the two characters creations of beauty. Readers are in a journey of learning to trust love, open up to the other, and grow in real respectful love.

Well worth the read. Thanks

I thought that this was a really cute story about Sarah and Eric. The story itself is a clean romance which to me was a nice pallet cleanser from what I normally read. All in all, it was a nice quick read that I enjoyed. I did take a star off because it was written in 3rd person and I tend to steer away from them as I find them hard to read.

I did receive a complimentary copy in exchange for a review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

The Grumpy Mountain Man: Mountain Men of Whispering Pines prt one by Deanna
Lilly
Is a well-written clean romance based on Christian principles. It is a story about Eric, a veteran living in the woods. He lives a reclusive life with the only contact with the outside world being Tom, his old service buddy. Due to circumstances, Tom and his good friend Sarah temporarily change homes. All the ingredients for a great story and romance on a great location.

Eric is a grumpy mountain man, and Sarah is bright and bubbly, so when they meet things are a little awkward. Sarah and her best friend Thomas switch houses for a couple of month, she needs to get away and he needs to visit family. When Sarah gets hurt Eric rescues her and then keeps her at his place to heal. Together they both learn a lot about themselves and each other.
