(´;ω;`)♡ I'm actually crying over how much I love this book so much, ya Allah. I'm genuinely surprised over how I barely see anyone talking about it, like I'm begging, everyone please read about this wonderful world of Cakra and Orked!

The story is about a prince from the winged nation of Bayu, prince Cakrawala, that got transported to Kampung Rawi, the land of human. For unknown reason, after he arrived to the new land, he became wingless, and once he became conscious, he was greeted by Orked, a brave and strong peasant girl. They both were surprised over each other's existence as they both grew up learning that the opposite kinds are just mere mythical beings. Ignoring their differences in personalities and 'darjat' and upon seeing his poor condition and confusion on what's going on, Orked took Cakrawala in and helped tending his needs, despite having a hard time to hide him from her mean step mother. Soon, Cakrawala and Orked found more people of Bayu that was also magically transported to Kampung Rawi, and they all live at the Sakar's clan residence. Upon seeing his people together with him stuck at this foreign land, he's determined to find a way for them to return home. Athough being treated differently by the people Bayu, Orked still happily lend a hand to help Cakrawala and his people to return. But during the journey of their search, the faces multiple hurdles, as if something, or someone, is refraining Cakrawala and his people to leave. But why is it? What is actually happening?

First of all, I just wanted to say that this is such an excellently written story. It is a classical malay - fantasy - friendshipcom (is this a thing, like romcom, but instead it's friendship) YA story, that centered heavily on the relationship between Orked and Cakra, where they bonded over their differences, and learning about one another, and in search for their 'home', and where they belong.

The story is rather simple and straightforward, almost predictable at times, but it was told brilliantly. And I genuinely love how the author actually mainly focuses on the character developments between both main leads. They're written absolutely well.

I love how the entire story focuses on the friendship of Orked and Cakra, pencarian titik persamaan dalam perbezaan. Both, trying to find their 'home', both shared their unresolved grief, both are just a 'child'. The background difference and contrasting characteristics between these two characters done by the author is so interesting, they're so different yet so similar — One is so hidden, and the other is being bared out there.

I really love their witty banters, they're silly, but very smart at the same time, ngl, this is the kind of humour i really love hehe.

(✿) Orked as a character is just so well loved by myself. I couldn't help but feel in love with her character upon first read. She's smart, extremely witty, really strong, and not forgetting, her sincerity when it comes to other people is just so admirable. Her character seems a bit simple on the surface, but if we simply look further beyond her, she is quite complex to some degree.
She's just, really lonely her entire life. I'm not sure if it's intended to be interpreted this way, but the way I see it, I completely understand why she okay befriending such horrible 'friends', no matter what, they're not as bad as her step mother, errands is something she's best at doing, and through that way, it's one of a very few human interactions she has with other human beings, especially people her age, at daily basis — these makes her feel like she's 'living'. She literally has no one, until Cakra came, which treats her as genuine friend (eventually), only then her little fantasies created from loneliness slipped away, and she eventually admitted that she misses her 'true best friend', oh that makes me tear up hard.

It breaks my heart when she always reminded herself that Cakra is just a boy, but she is also just a girl too.

The ending though, holy moly, I did cry. The way she waited for years, and for a while, it became the reason for her to live, waiting for her good friends, her father's tengkolok, waiting to see her sense of joy all over again, waiting for them to come to her 'home'. It's nice that the story shows how she slowly let go of 'them' and fully accepted her home and live her life as who she is, yet she still acknowledged how the short moments from 5 years back brought so many memories to her. It's nice to see how she can let go, at the same time, embrace it too.

(🜲) Cakrawala, aka Cakra, the main guy himself is such a well written character. His character development is just *chef kiss*. He went from a 'rasa semua bagus' prince to a very 'human' person, and it's just so admirable to see him like that. The problem about Cakra is, he it isn't because he's a prince, it's because of his internal ego. From the start we could see despite how rude he is towards Orked, but once the others started to think badly of her and talk bad about her, he didn't hesitate to backs her up and protected her, his kindness is there, his human side is there, but he's too proud to let it show in the beginning.

I couldn't help but to think that, despite all the struggles and him getting transported to Rawi became something so meaningful to him in order to grasp the full understanding and potential as a true 'king'. Also, he may be 'wingless', but whether one realises or not, the important people around him become his wings, in this case, his good friend, Tuah and Orked. For Tuah, he may just be a bird, but he has been around with him for the longest time, the most loyal one, just having Tuah with him gave a sense of hope to him. Every single moments he has with Orked really taught him a lot, how she sees him just a mere 'person', how she treated him like a real friend, how she cared for him and tend to his needs, how she simply listens when he wanted to vent, how she didn't mind helping and accompanying him in whatever situation it was, Orked's sincerity really showed him how to be a person he needed to be. I actually teared up over the shoe scene, how he did all of it just to repay her, something so alien done by any prince out there, but he did it, out of sincerity too.

At the final battle, I really thought Orked is going to come back and bring her giant cat with her in order to save him, and I'm so so glad I'm totally wrong, and the scene really did show how much he had changed, and the presence of a 'king' in him, both in emotional, and power level.

Also, I like how realistic the depictions of longing being showed through Cakra, his change of mood, his outbursts, of him, just being a regular boy. It didn't hit me asap how awful his situation was, until his nightmare kept on coming, then it makes sense why he's so distrustful, he didn't even get the time for himself. They're just so real.

(𓃬 / 𓅛) Tuah and Anggun, best side characters ngl. I adore how they possessed the behaviours of a huge cat and a puppy, but in a form of tiger and a bird. I think it's so smart to put an actual personalities towards these babies, as it really makes the story more alive. Remember the Barbie films we used to watch back in the days, where Barbie has animal companions that isn't just a comedic relief, but they're a character on their own, and the author did a very good job at this ya.

The world building is so well thought and simple, yet the author manages to make it magical and enough, especially for a short novella like this! It has been a very solid story telling all over, and I couldn't help but to feel really attached to both the world and the main characters! I really adore how the classical Malay elements were placed in the story, a simple mention of selubung and tengkolok from time to time sets as a very good reminder of the time setting, and it's just nice. Also, description of the general background environment of the story is done greatly too, eg. tuah's size, the smoke during battle, etc.

The ending, though, I actually cried hard reading it. For a short epilogue, it's still so so so well written in a complete manner, that wraps up the story perfectly. What a good closure to a story.

PLEASE MARISA FENDI, PLEASE WRITE A FULL LENGTH NOVEL ABOUT THEIR WORLD? More of the two? Like I genuinely wanted to know whether Orked's father has a past relationship with the Bayu people, like I understand that he's only telling a story, maybe I'm just thinking too much into it, but the way he believed which makes Orked believe too feels like there's something more to it? Also it's unfair how only Orked managed to listen to his story, as I wanted to know how he got his wings and the war back too. And although it was told briefly that she did great, but I also wanted to know about Orked's life as well. I wanted to know what is more there is to their story. Despite that, even if we never get a continuation or a novel of it, this book and the story will surely stay with me my entire life.

I think I needed to say this, like I don't mind Orked and Cakra being platonic, like of course I ship them haha but that's a different story. But i don't know about you, but this story showed exactly the 'yearning' they've talked about in Jane Austen books or any classics out there. You can't tell me otherwise, but the entire epilogue is like that! I can't believe I'm seeing yearning being brought back in a platonic friendship story, a very good one at that. As a romance reader, I approve.

I know I mentioned how I cried a lot while reading the story, and no, it's not a sad story, but I'm just a very emotional person that thinks too much haha

After reading like 3 other English Bookiut novellas which I have so many issues with, this one is just excellently done, a complete story, a good story telling, good world building, this book gave me hope for the future novella releases.

Overall, what a fantastic story. If you like classical Malay mixed with fantasy and seasoned with a wholesome friendship and witty banters, this is for youuu! Like, please read this I'm begging you, it's just really good. I'm so so surprised that no one is really talking about this book, and I bought it a while back because I was interested with the blurb + premise, and I wasn't expecting to end up loving it so much. If anyone's reading this, give the book a chance, as I think it deserves so much love from more people.

P/s: My cat, Mimim, chewed on the corner of the book while I was asleep. 10/10 decoration.

An outcast wingless prince with a fearless village girl.
Minor spoiler ahead starting with this 💬
Personal rate: 3.8 stars.
_____

"How do I know you're not taking me to a dungeon to hold me captive?"

"I'm a busy woman," she replied flatly. "I don't have time to capture peculiar young men appearing in paddy fields."

_____

Imagine in the middle of the night, you saw a boy who was unconscious being wrapped with beautiful yellow wings. Later did you know the boy is a prince, the heir throne of a kingdom called Bayu?

Cakrawala's fortune changes overnight when he is been outcast and backstabbed by his own royal family. Something happened during the battle and he was transported to Kampung Rawi where Orked lived and was found injured. Could he return and claim the throne?

I can't put this book down ever since I started. A light urban fantasy that I urge you to devour. Creating a small village as the background set was a great move because, for me, it pictures the cluster that is significant with MY vibes. The outfit? I love it as well. Easy for me a non-fantasy reader to picture the scene. However, TWP should not be a novella. How can I say it was enough when I wasn't fully being shoved with how exquisite the kingdom is? Spill me the worldbuilding, make me travel thousands of miles. Don’t tease me like that.

Luckily some plotholes were saved by the friendship of Orked and Cakrawala. The moment Orked came into view, I fell for her. The way she replied to Cakra sometimes was so satirical, ironically making me laugh the whole time. She is unbothered but still respects Cakra as the 'The Highness'. The kind of girl that you don't want to be messing around with, other something on behalf of her will bite you 👀

You can stop here as below is a minor spoiler.

_____

💬 Although so many questions arise when I read about the portal/whirlpool, like, how does it even exist in the first place? Will the wings disappear or have any sort of limited power when they come to the human world? Even the execution of the barrier seems off to me.
_____

My point is I don't say it was not good! I enjoy it so much that I think this book will potentially fly high in its way. I can't wait for what comes next. Congrats on your first physical baby! 💖✨Thanks to Bookiut for sending me the copy. Do I recommend it? YESSSSS!

The first book that had me anxious, looking at its few last pages when I know the story should be more. I was like, eh I almost reach the end of the book dah but the story hasn't completed yet. Eh ade 5-year timeskip pulak. Marisa Fendi, I am so ready for book two of the Wingless Prince. I need to know what happened during the time skip and how Bayu was again under Cakrawala's. In other words, The Wingless Prince is sooo good! I gave 4 out of 5.

It follows an ordinary village girl, Orked, who in her presence was Cakrawala, an unfortunate prince who accidentally fell into human's world after his battle with his relatives over the throne of his Kingdom named, Bayu. Together, they tried to bring Cakrawala home and at the same time fought the once banished courtier, Sakar as he pushed his ideology to take over human's world.

TWP reminds me a bit of a kdrama, The King Eternal Monarch (especially the lart where 21-year-old Orked spent her time waiting for Cakrawala's return) and Wakanda. I really wish it was more of it. I need to know what Kingdom of Bayu and the people are like? What magical features does Bayu people have? I bet that would be awesome to read. 120+ pages are not enough but it's a good entry for those who just started to venture into YA fiction like me. Fast-paced and easy to digest.

Such a fast-paced story! I devoured it in one sitting, and I’m glad I did. The familiar connotations of a stepmother, the cruel betrayal of a family member, the loss of loved ones—every theme rings true in The Wingless Prince.

I admire Orked’s character. Her naivety and innocence are not her weakness. Instead, they make her hopeful. She lends a helping hand to the prince who falls from the sky, his wings disappearing without a explanation. She allows herself to be used by her stepmother and so-called friends, but it’s not hard to understand why, when she has nobody else left but herself.

The prince, Cakrawala, as spoiled as he may be, goes through significant character growth throughout the story as well. From learning the human ways of living, accepting Orked as a friend, and leading his people towards finding a way back home—he does everything with Orked’s help, and it’s a beautiful friendship that they share.

As for Sakar, I never trusted him from the moment he was introduced. It’s like I immediately knew he would betray Cakra. His name alone is perfect for a power-hungry man whose ego has been bruised.

All in all, I wish it was longer. I want to learn more about the royals of Bayu, their history, how Orked’s father died, the world-building of both the human world and Bayu. I want to know how Orked first came across Angun the tiger. How does Cakra’s home look like atop the mountains, and what does Tuah the Rajawali look like in detail?

But most of all, why did the prince’s wings disappear when he falls through the portal into Kampung Rawi, and how do they reappear?

I have so many questions! But I really enjoyed reading it. Kudos to Marisa Fendi for sharing such a wonderful story.

The Wingless Prince is about Prince Cakrawala from Bayu kingdom, falls into a river and emerges in Kampung Rawi. There, he meets Orked, a human girl. Orked tries to help him to return him home and get the throne back.

- The setting of the story is really my cup of tea. I'm a person who love Malay classic movies, so I'm used to this type of story. Imagine how happy I am!

- A very fast paced one, the writing is simple and easy to understand. I love the usage of italics on the certain words to stress the tone - found myself uttering the sentences out loud to feel the emotions that the characters trying to convey with them.

- I never expect the plot twist at all! It's truly good!

- My favourite side character : Anggun ❤️

- I'm so ready for the sequel!

- I'm so glad to pick this book up two days back because it's really relatable with our current issues right now so for that, I thank the author for bringing the elements into the story so our brothers and sisters' seventy five years of suffering won't be forgotten. While I'm at it, let's keep sending our prayers to them and use our platforms to be the voice on their behalf.

2 people from a different world met accidentally. A mysterious boy fall from the sky, found unconscious by a girl name Orked. A normal human being, a wingless one they say. Long short story, Cakra, a wing creature that supposed to be just a 'folklore' by the human folk is now in Orked village. Alive, but yet lost. Turns out, he has been betrayed by his cousin, and fell into the village while in a dangerous battle.

I'm sorry but this book being this short is a crime. I enjoy, and invested in the storyline. It was a fun exciting story that makes me feel eager to know what happen next. I really love the distinct difference between the 'wingless' and 'wing' folk, and how there is a 2 different world that been co-existing without knowing. The setting is imaginative, and atmospheric. I can imagine Kampung Bayu, I can imagine Kampung Rawi, the night market where Cakra and Orked goes. I also love Cakra and Orked friendship. its so cute and wholesome. I love how Orked never hesitate to help him.

However, I wish I could know more of the Kampung Bayu history, I think the addition to that would have help to make a strong point for the world building. There were quite few plot holes that I noticed that make me questioning it until now. I was hoping for it to be revealed but sad that it did not happen.

Overall, its not a bad book. It was amazing experience, and have a high potential to be more (I wish it could be a book series instead). Thank you to the author for this book, I love it. And thank you to Bukubookiut for the review copy.

Highly recommend it!!

The Wingless Prince—is about Cakrawala, the prince of Bayu who had fallen into a river after an unexpected turn of his cousin and uncle. He then realized that he had landed at Kampung Rawi and there, he met Orked, a peasant girl from Kampung Rawi. Together, the two of them embarked on a journey to find a way back to Bayu and retrieve his rightful throne.

My thoughts: I have been enchanted by the novella since the first page. The author seemed to know how to catch someone's attention to keep reading the story. I love the premise of the story. The plot and storyline were amazingly written by the author. There was no single part that I didn't like. I couldn't stop grinning like a madman from time to time thanks to the effect this book had on me!

Cakrawala and Orked–as the quote stated, were indeed, an odd pair. For me, they are a dynamic duo. The one that kept bickering and always making jokes with each other. From the beginning, we can see how Cakrawala at first was a spoiled prince (even though he tried to deny it), but when the storyline slowly paced to the centre of the plot, his character started to develop. Orked was–well, she is a funny one in my point of view. The kind of sarcastic friend that pretended didn't care about you, yet the one who always helps you until the end without asking for an exchange for the good deeds they had done for us. It seemed like they could have a good 'strangers to friends (who always bickering with each other) to lovers' trope in my opinion hehe. And am I the only one who kept seeing Rengoku Kyojuro in Cakrawala? (please don't attack me)

The plot twist was quite predictable for me since I did keep my eyes on it, but still, Marisa Fendi managed to execute the part pretty well. No worries, fellas, the ending was happy ever after (if you ask).

Last but not least, here is the thing—I want more of Cakrawala and Orked's journey. Especially what happened to Cakrawala when he was at— (no spoiler) since I have too many questions playing in my mind. I WANT MOREEEE *manifesting there will be another book about Cakrawala*

If this story is any longer, it can be categorized as an epic fantasy genre besides being a folklore one, and I'll spend all my money just to read the continuous story.

I think that's all from me.

Did I recommend this novella to others? Yes. So... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS NOVELLA!

Wingless Prince tells a story about Cakrawala, an heir to the throne of a mythical kingdom of winged people but he and his family has been betrayed. Now wounded and wingless, he found himself stuck in the human world where he met Orked. With the help of the village girl, he must figure out a way to get back home and save his kingdom.

THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN A FULL ON SERIES. I WANT MOREE!

Honestly with how short this was, I'm amazed by how the author managed to make some very emotional and memorable scenes, as well as constructing such a fun dynamic and chemistry between the main leads. I ended getting really attached to these two and I couldn't help but wanting to see them together more. The pacing was done perfectly. It didn't feel too rushed and I appreciate that we get some 'take a breather' moments where we get to see these two bond either through their grief or understanding of each other, after some action scenes. And despite the limited word count, Cakrawala's arc was done really well.

My only complaint is that the dialogue do get clunky sometimes and I honestly don't think descriptive writing and actions scenes are the author's strong suits.

Highly reccomend this read and I couldn't wait to explore more of this author's work.

🌿 I am engrossed from the beginning of the story. It put me still on my sit and to keep on reading to know what would happened next and the next. Only to know the end if it. This is such a page turner. I can’t get enough of this story. It’s so so good.

Orked from Kampung Rawi lives with her stepmother, who was so cruel to her. One day, she decided (again) to run away from the house; however, unexpectedly, she saw a boy who had fallen into the river and decided to help him out of it. The boy is a Prince of Bayu named Cakrawala. He lost his wing. The two together begin their journey to find out how and where Cakrawala can go back to his place.

It has been a while since I last read fantasy but oh my, this is one of the best. The storyline makes you amazed by it. You can devoured it in one sitting.
I personally could imagine how worldbuilding it is especially in Kampung Rawi but I’m curious about Kampung Bayu which I’m hoping if we could get the story of it.

I love this duo although they two were so different in many ways. I love how Orked could be friends with the tiger and Cakrawala’s Rajawali.

The book cover is magnificent. I truly love the cover. It’s really beautiful. It captures the essence of the amazing story.

It’s a short story that I hope it would be more because the story is worth to be long than this. Anyway, I enjoy every moment I am with the duo and the story of it. Definitely, highly recommended one!

🌿 5🌟

I picked up this book without much expectation, but to my surprise, it turned out to be really good! I would easily rate it a solid 5 if the author had given more backstory for each character. The pacing is very fast, and before I knew it, the story jumped ahead by five years. I truly hope there will be a second book because I need to know what happened during those missing five years, especially Cakrawala’s battle with his uncle.

In the epilogue, the author highlighted that Orked eventually stopped going to the paddy field, showing how she was slowly accepting that Cakrawala might never return. I really want more story about how Orked coped with her new life during that time. With her stepmother gone as well, how did she rebuild her life? There’s so much emotional depth there that deserves to be explored.

That said, I absolutely love how the author portrays Malay traditions, especially through the names and cultural elements. It adds so much richness and authenticity to the story. Kuddos to the author!

Hoping for a second book, please! 🤞

One of the cutest stories I’ve ever read! The Wingless Prince is a fairytale filled with themes of loss, identity, friendship, and resilience.

The story follows Cakrawala, a prince who loses his wings and his home, desperate to return. Meanwhile, Orked, longing to escape her own world, is running in the opposite direction. Their personalities couldn’t be more different, yet their interactions are both funny and heartwarming, making their journey even more enjoyable. I devoured this book in one sitting!

I especially love how the author blends fantasy with traditional elements—the world feels so fresh and immersive. From the majestic, winged kingdom of Bayu to the charming simplicity of Orked’s village, every setting is beautifully crafted.

If you're looking for a light, magical read that will make you smile, I highly recommend this book!

my opinion:
the writing flows very naturally and the characters are both also well-described and despite it being a novella, it doesn't feel underdeveloped. it's an easy and fast read from the straightforward language usage for me though the storyline feels a little predictable, in a good way.

both characters; cakra and orked, are greatly showing their different personalities, especially during time of conflict and difficulties. i enjoyed reading on the blooming of their friendship throughout the book as well, with them having similar unresolved issues within themselves despite being young and contrasting characteristics.

for a little backstory, i was in a reading slump and couldn't focus on reading or picking up any book but when i brought this book during a short trip to kuantan a few months ago, i finally picked it up and it did not disappoint. thank you, marisa ✨

my rating: 3.95 ⭐️

this was a nice, short read to pass the time and rekindled my appreciation for malay fantasy settings.

i feel like the writing could be refined a bit here and there but the strength of this book lies in the characters of Orked and Cakrawala + their interactions, i love their banter (definitely made me snort once) and the friendship they formed. both characters were also great individually and it was interesting to see how similar they were to one another. here's to more male-female friendships like this in fiction !

Another 3.5 star novella - loved the concept, but it felt a little underdeveloped. Probably due to the length.
It also felt a little trope-y in a "more could be done with this to really nail it" way. Starts off with Cinderella vibes (young orphan girl being abused by her stepmother), slight enemies to friends sequence (maybe potential lovers?) with the whole "enemy countries" thing, obvious betrayal, grand fight, and inevitable pining scene.

This is my first time reading a locally published English book and to be honest, I had fun!

The plot and premise is pretty straightforward. Understandable, seeing as this book is targeted for a younger age range.

However, I was expecting more to happen because there was a lot of waiting around. It wasn't until near the end of the book that things finally started happening. I wished we got more of what it was like in Bayu with Cakra but, unfortunately no.

finished reading this book right after reading marisa fendi's songs of the runaway heart.

I LOVE MARISA'S DUALITY! both of her books have very different writing styles yet they both tell the story so eloquently well.

the wingless prince is a very traditional story, and marisa showcases the malay culture so well. the characters are interesting and the storyline is consistent as well as the pacing.

would definitely recommend this novella to be integrated into classrooms

This is a story of a village girl from Kampung Rawi named Orked and Cakrawala, a prince from a mythical kingdom, Bayu.

I love the classic Malay names in this story, and the story is very straightforward and flows cleanly.

It's a nice and enjoyable novella that can be read in one sitting.

Such a short and sweet read. Finished this book in one sitting. I do enjoy the banter between Cakra and Orked. Literally hilarious! I wish we could've more information about Bayu realm. Cakra's world. But I understood the fact that this book was meant to be short and precise as a book type.

Kind of expecting the ending but couldn't believe it when it really happened 😁

I hope there is sequel as I want to know more of Cakra and Orked

Best.

I hope the writer will consider the possibility of writing a sequel to the book, perhaps focusing primarily on the friendship between Cakrawala and Orked in their adult years. 😁
