Tabetha Waite is a small-town Missouri girl who grew up with big dreams of being a published author after her fourth-grade teacher said she liked reading her stories. She began her journey by putting pen to paper writing anything from fantasy to mystery, before graduating to an old Underwood typewriter. It wasn’t until she started high school that her grandmother introduced her to the classic, Gothic novels. As her love of romance grew to encompass Harlequins, it wasn’t until she read “Midnight Bride” by Kathleen Drymon that she developed a fascination for historical England. After discovering the allure of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters, she was hooked!
It wasn’t until 30 years and 63 rejections later that her debut novel, “Why the Earl is After the Girl,” the first book in her Ways of Love series was picked up for publication by Etopia Press and released in July of 2016 to critical acclaim. Since then, she has become a hybrid author with books previously released with Soul Mate Publishing, WOLF Publishing, and Dragonblade, as well as transitioning into Indie. I thought that the story was genuinely sweet. I took Iona’s character to be dominant almost controlling over the beginning of the friendship and courtship of Iona and Thorpe. The characters are often times witty, however they help bring to the story the fun and excitement of friendship. The entertainment is the genuine romance between Thorp and Iona. This is a page turner that is an easy read. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

A Duke, Love and Sunshine
Seaside Society of Spinsters, Book 1
Tabetha Waite, author

A new series by Ms. Waite, and what a delightful story it is!

A woman in the early 19th century was expected to do as she was told by both society and her parents. Otherwise, she was ostracized or even sent away. Today, woman are very different from the women of the 19th century. Nonetheless, Miss Iona Richards, a daughter of the gentry wanted to make a name for herself, as an architect. Vowing to do just this, Iona left her family behind, even though it left her as an outcast by them.

Now in London, living in a home owned by other women, for the purpose of helping other women succeed in their life's goals, Iona sets out to make a name for herself in a man's world.

Iona takes her drawings and her knowledge of landscape design to Thorpe Covington, the Duke of Rosewood. Having done her homework beforehand, she presented her design layouts before him. Although, like every other person of the times, the duke chose not to go with Miss Richards as his landscape architect. Feeling disappointed, Miss Richards retuned to the boarding home vowing to thrive and push forward.

The duke eventually hires a man to redesign his gardens, as the man came highly recommended. However, the duke was not pleased with the man's work. Thus, he reached out to Miss Richards again and the rest is history, as they say....

I enjoyed this delightful, fresh take on historical tales. It was difficult for me to put the book down, once I began reading it. The story was the perfect length for the author to dive in and provide enough details for a well written storyline.

I've sung Ms. Waite's praises for many years now and this story is evident of her literary skills. The chemistry between Thorpe and Iona was absolutely perfect.

I recommend this book highly.

This is my 39th book by Tabetha Waite and I started reading her back in June, 2020. I know she writes other genres but I only read Regency/Victorian era genres. I love her writing and never have a bad read. She will always be special to me as I actually met her and had lunch with her. She took time out of her family vacation, to meet with me and my husband. So nice! I wasn't sure I was going to get this series or not because I wasn't sure it was my genre but I looked at the sample read and saw it was so I got it. :)

I liked Iona and Thorpe. Story was interesting and not the usual "ton" story. I liked the concept. They had good chemistry and the sex was good and well written. I would usually read the next book(s) in the series but I think I'll wait and maybe go back and get them at a later date. Overall a good read.

The first in a new series & an utterly beautiful romance. I loved the chemistry between Thorpe & Iona, neither were ready to marry but a business arrangement led to friendship & love. The pages flew by as I read how two people fell in love. I loved both Thorpe & Iona, he’s worked hard to bring the dukedom back from the edge of ruin & she’s a very talented landscape gardener who isn't appreciated because she's a woman. I loved how Thorpe gave her the chance to shine. The couples banter was witty & the chemistry just got hotter & hotter. There was also a delightful mix of secondary characters I loved it

I loved this delightful exploration of love and ambition set against the backdrop of the enchanting Burnham-On-Sea; it's guaranteed to make you swoon and smile as the spirited heroine and a brooding duke find their hearts' desire. The author creates a vivid and engaging world, filled with colorful characters, witty dialogue, and beautiful scenery.

Our refreshing and charming heroine is Iona Richards, a lady from London society, who pursues her passion for landscape architecture despite the societal constraints of her time. Thorpe Covington, Duke of Rosewood, is a complex and intriguing hero, who hides his vulnerability behind a stern facade. When Iona meets him to interview for the position as his landscape architect, he initially dismisses her because of her gender; however, he is intrigued by her talent and spirit and decides to hire her a month after the initial interview.

Together, they embark on a project to transform his seaside cottage into a paradise, while also discovering their mutual attraction and respect. The story is full of witty banter, tender moments that bring out the best in each other and it will keep you hooked until the end. The plot is well-paced and captivating, the secondary characters are also well-developed and add depth and humor to the story. I especially enjoyed the friendship between Iona and the other members of the Seaside Society of Spinsters, who support each other in their unconventional pursuits. I highly recommend this book to historical romance lovers, and I am looking forward to more books in this series! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

An amazing story to start a new series with.

Iona wants to be something else other than a mother and a wife, she wants to be an architect and to lead the way for many other women in society. But her parents don't approve so when she leaves home to give her ideas a fruition she didn't expect it to be done by a powerful Duke who turns her entire world upside down with a kiss.

Thorpe wants nothing more than to restore his family name and his family estates, that begins with completely new furnishings, new landscape etc however the architect he has employed isn't what he had imagined, instead of a man, the architect is a beautiful young woman who sets him on fire with a simple touch of a hand.

With the close proximity of them working together, they not only begin to feel desire for each other but love builds for each other, these two were simply meant to be together. He has no problem with her views on society. And she supports him in every way possible.

The chemistry between these two characters is felt from the beginning of the story to the end.

I definitely can't wait for the rest of this series.

I received this as an advanced copy from the author and wolf publishing in exchange for honest and voluntary review and this is based off of my own personal experience and that of no one else.

Iona Richards wishes to be a landscape architect. He family wants her to be the typical Society young lady, watercolors, needle work, marry, have children. She sees an advertisement for a boarding house that invites independent women to join their society of spinsters. Will this be this move help her achieve her dream? Thorpe Covington, Duke of Rosewood, is looking for an architect to landscape the gardens around the cottage he has in Burnham-on-Sea, and possibly Rosewood Manor. He is impressed with Iona’s sketches, but doesn’t feel right to hire a woman. When he sees her work around the seaside town, he admires her talent. The more time he spends around her, the more his admiration grows. He soon becomes enamored with her. Does Iona feel the same for him? Can she be a landscaper and a duchess? This is well-done story about independence, attitude adjustments, success, and finding love. Iona’s family’s disapproval is a big concern for her, but Thorpe shows support for her. The characters are exciting and strong. All of the ladies at the boarding house have hopes for the future, and are all ready and willing to help each other. There are few stumbles, but in the end, a happy ending. A beautiful beginning for a new series.

Iona Richards has a dream that won’t be denied! She walked out of her parents house after seeing and advertisement for a boarding house in Burnham on the sea.
She knows if someone gives her a chance she can be the greatest gardener/architect designer since Capability Brown!
Her family disagrees and refuses to acknowledge further contact with her!
Iona is 25 and definitely considered a spinster but the two ladies who run the home are quite dedicated to the success of each resident!
Miss Grantham and Miss Stratford enlist offers to find Iona a prospective client!
When she meets Thorpe Covington Duke of Rosewood she is very hopeful!
He dismisses her and then had to rethink his decision because no design matched Iona!
This is not a courtship in the traditional or non traditional sense!
These are two very stubborn people who defy conventions with a little help from the ladies at the cottage and the Earl of Stanton Thorpe’s best friend definitely gives this romance and him several prods in the right direction!
Lady Beauvais a patron of the home offers very valuable advice to Thorpe! So glad he took it!
Iona is so insecure and stubborn at one point she almost blows it.
Thorpe becomes the definition of a good hero and book boyfriend in how he salvaged the situation! Nonstop action! Certainly steamy as well! Bravo

I enjoyed A Duke, Love & Sunshine by Tabetha Waite very much. I appreciate a story with a main character that is strong and who wants to make a difference in society before it was actually permitted. When I read these types of stories, I reflect on how difficult it was for women during this time in history. They truly, had no voice or standing in society, and if they did not give into their family’s expectations often lost their family’s support. Tabetha wrote a very realistic story about someone who takes a risk for the future she desires.

Iona Richards moves away from her family to see is she can be an independent woman as a landscape architect. Thorpe Covington, the Duke of Rosewood meets with her thinking she is a man. Although, he is very impressed with her designs, he declines her services at first but reconsiders and hires her.

As Thorpe gets to know her he admires her abilities as an outstanding architect and starts to desire her for the amazing women she is. I loved that Iona did not cave into Thorpe and made him work for her affections. I enjoyed their emotional journey to a happily ever after that had its share of up and downs along the way.

I received an ARC copy of the book from Wolf publishing and this is my honest unbiased review.

This is the kick-off to a new series, Seaside Society of Spinsters, and what a brilliant start it is! Iona is an ambitious and spirited lady, and she defies the cultural norm by pursuing her architectural interests, despite the constraints of society. She meets with Thorpe, Duke of Rosewood, for a position as his landscape architect, but he dismisses her because of her gender. However, later thinking on it, he is impressed by her talent and greatly intrigued by her spirited nature and decides to hire her. Together, they aim to restore his seaside cottage and as they do, Thorpe's admiration for her work and her ambition grows more and more by the day as does his attraction for her. Iona is equally as attracted to him, but pursuing her dream comes first and foremost. Thorpe initially accepts that, but can't get her out of his mind. He fully supports her endeavors. Now he just needs to convince her that she can follow her dreams and be his duchess.
A thoroughly entertaining story with well-developed and likable characters. The storyline flowed smoothly and I was completely engaged in the story from start to finish. This was a very enjoyable book and I look forward to following the series.

Miss Iona Richards a gentlewoman of now 5 and 20 years is en route to the Somerset beach town of Burnham-on-Sea where she will take a room at the Spinsters Seaside Society
run by the kindly Miss Stratford and Miss Grantham who make her welcome. Iona wishes to avoid the strictures of society and her family who only want to marry her to an elderly earl so
that she might be his broodmare. Iona has other ambitions mainly being a landscape architect and is very talented. So talented that an arranged interview with the Duke of Rosewood
greatly impresses the 32 year old bachelor peer but he cannot quite bring himself to acknowledge such of a lady here yet being in the year 1813. A month later after she has decorated the
local village he has second thoughts and hires her and thus begins a slow mutual appreciation of each other. Iona pitches in with the local laborers she hires to dig up the lawn and create a pond
and Thorpe, the duke, becomes more and more enamored of her form and beauty let alone resoluteness and brilliance. A most enjoyable Regency romance with delicious steam. Received this
arc and have voluntarily reviewed.

What a delightful story. It's always good to read a story about women who strive for more than balls and musicales. Iona Richards has left her family to try her hand as a landscape architect. She is talented but will a woman be accepted in the field.
Her first stop is the Seaside Society boarding house. It was established by 2 spinsters for single women who want to become independent entrepreneurs. What a great concept. Iona fits right in and the sponsor of the house helps her get her drawings in front of a Duke who is looking to redesign the grounds around his manor.Thorpe, the Duke of Rosewood loves the designs until he sees that the architect is a woman. After trying someone else he decides to give her a try.
The sparks between the two begin to fly almost as soon as they meet but Thorpe is attracted to her brain and talent as much as to her beauty. That is just a breath of fresh air. Rather than try to corral her he allows her talent to go free.
When the Happily Ever After comes it is really worth the wait and an encouragement to all smart girls everywhere.

A new series with a wonderful premise, a group of women who want to help other women to fulfill their dreams. This has been a very enjoyable, very refreshing read, with all the sunshine of the title seeping through the writing and brightening the book.
The hero, Thorpe, is the best! A man supportive of his woman, one who was born with a certain degree of prejudice like everyone of his station, but who remains open-minded and ready to change when his beliefs are challenged. Iona, the heroine, is bold and capable and strong. I didn’t like that she had to compromise at the end, but I can well understand what it meant to be a woman in that period and the book is very realistic that way. Unfortunately only powerful (and rich) women could do what they wanted and always with the (at least) nominal support of men.
A very intriguing first book of an equally intriguing series. Can’t wait for the next one!

I was extremely fortunate to receive an ARC of A Duke, Love and Sunshine by the fabulous Tabetha Waite from Wolf Publishing. Miss Iona Richards wishes to be a landscape architect. Unfortunately, the confines of society deter a woman from working and being independent. She finally gets her chance when she escapes her narrow minded parents and moves away to a seaside society dedicated to the enrichment of women wanting to be someone not molded to society's standards. Thorpe Covington, the Duke of Rosewood is look for a landscape artist and believes he is meeting with a Mr.Richards when he invites the architect of some beautiful garden designs to his home. He is stunned and a little hesitant to hire a single lady to do the 'dirty work' at his home.
This is a beautiful story on women empowerment and believing in the ability and capability of women to do what they want as long as they have the self determination and self confidence to do what they want ...  come what may.

First time to read Tabetha Waite but won’t be my last.
Iona Richards wants to be a landscape architect but woman of gentry do not work. Her family does not support her. So, she finds a boarding house run by independent women who will. Her first potential client, the Duke of Rosewood, dismisses her due to her gender; but her designs remain in his mind. He can’t find anyone with better ideas. He eventually comes to his senses and hires her.

But neither can dismiss the other from their thoughts and soon they are exchanging kisses and private moments. Will Iona’s desire for independence keep her from committing to the greatest love she has ever known?

The characters have depth and are interesting. The plot moves quickly. My only regret is that there was not more about the women who started the boarding house.

A Duke, Love and Sunshine by Tabetha Waite is a delightful story about strength, independence, and romance. Iona Richards wants to make her mark upon the world with her own landscaping business. She sets out on her own after coming across an advertisement regarding a boarding house specifically for spinsters wishing to make their own way. The owners of the boarding house, Miss Stratford and Miss Grantham, help support and encourage Iona. They are instrumental in Iona interviewing with Thorpe Covington, the Duke of Rosewood, to revive the landscaping for his nearby cottage. That begins the relationship between Iona and Thorpe. It was so much fun to watch the relationship grow through their ups and downs. The story has a good balance of adventure and romance with charming and likable characters.

Iona was brave to leave her comfortable but controlling family to pursue her passion for landscaping architecture, if only someone will give a woman a chance in a male dominated field. She hopes that person is Thorpe but he has to overcome his preconceived notions about her abilities first. I wanted to shake them at times fighting their attraction to each other and not admitting that they are open to a more permanent connection until it’s almost too late. Thorpe was ready to wed another he didn’t love and who didn’t really want to marry him except for family pressures. Iona and Thorpe have their share of ups and downs and misunderstandings but at least he doesn’t make her hold back from her dreams unlike her family. I loved the idea of a boarding house that gave independent women a chance to succeed and I’m looking forward to reading more romances about their inhabitants.

✨✨ONE INCREDIBLE DELIGHT✨✨
Jumping jellybeans Jasper! Tabetha delivers one heartwarming, magically bewitching, enticingly addictive, rock-our-world tempest. Serving up one knee-bending, head-bowed and hands folded piece of perfection. Dishing out some harsh truths, soul-searching lessons and relentless devotion. Heartaches and disappointment are derailed with witt, intellect and understanding. Bridging the crumbling barriers and frayed perimeters as limitations and restrictions are tried and tested. Cognizant of the daunting struggles and incredible triumphs, while acknowledging the dramatic twists and pivotal turns unfolding. Revelations are disclosed and promises are pledged, fusing this treat together flawlessly. Exhibiting the soaring ups and agonizing downs, breathtaking in it's simplicity and awe-inspiring in it's depth. The characters dialogue, interactions and electrifying atmosphere, along with admiral qualities and individual traits adding depth and diversity, blending into charismatic personalities. Miss Iona Richards has only one dream, to be a successful landscape architect. Rejected by her family for her ambition, she finds help from the ladies of The Seaside Society at Burnham-On-Sea. Thorpe Covington, the Duke of Rosewood, is restoring his mother's cottage and he's looking for a landscape architect. At first he rejects Iona for the job because she's a woman. It's not long before he realizes his mistake and hires her for the job, using his power and clout to protect her. It's the same problem of a difference in class when they both can't deny their attraction.
Emotionally intense, there is a blazing passion between Iona and Thorpe. One of my favorite complicated tropes.
Very explicit sex.

3.5*
Aspiring landscape architect Iona Richards, parts ways with her disapproving family and travels to Burnham on Sea, where she applies for a ducal commission. The Duke of Rosewood is enamoured of the designs he has been sent but when he realises that it is the work of a woman, he rejects her and instead sends for a London architect. It is only when that doesn’t work out, that he reluctantly returns to Iona. It doesn’t take long before he starts to both believe in her talents and hunger for her as a woman. However Iona values her independence and has no intention of marrying…
I did in places find this overly modern and I couldn’t work out how Iona, without any previous hands-on experience of landscaping was able to direct workers and see her vision realised without a single hiccup.

Very nice story. I always enjoy reading about a titled gentleman who falls for a woman who isn’t part of the Ton and usually has some sort of business she wants to run or is running. This fit that category. The Duke of Rosewood falls for the woman he hires to landscape his seaside home. Iona Richards dreams of one day becoming a famous landscape architect. When she lands a job for the duke, she can’t believe that her dream might be coming true. But will it? Or will obstacles put themselves in their path and ruin a possible love match.

This was a nice start to a new series. I will absolutely read the other books in this series.

ADULT Regency Romance💕
A young woman who is at odds with her landed gentry family Leaves and decides to pursue her dream as a landscape architect . She believes she will have to stay Unmarried so that she can pursue this Dream. In those days in the early 1800s women were not allowed to have professional jobs ,especially women from wealthy families.

This fun and interesting novel did not need the adult scenes. The few that were in the book could easily have been left out. They weren't that well written anyway, and it would not have affected the story.

I got this e-book from amazon with kindle unlimited.

There were so many editing errors it made the book really difficult to enjoy. Following are two examples. “Thorpe was lifted off his feet and placed on top of the mighty steed…”. Who in the world lifted him up on top of that horse? Did the hand of God come down through the clouds and lift him up and put him on top of that horse? It makes no sense whatsoever. Place, the author uses the word notoriety when she meant fame. Two examples out of many and that is the kind of thing that was so distracting that I couldn’t enjoy the book.

It’s tough to do a feminist theme without sounding totally ridiculous in an era where some things just weren’t done, but it succeeded here. The threat of Bedlam for a woman who refused to follows society’s norms was real, and definitely impacted Iona’s options here. Fortunately, she was lucky enough to find a man who was progressive enough to embrace her strengths and allow her the freedom to be herself.

Plenty of hard work and struggles to get there, but a satisfying result (even if her family never quite redeemed themselves).

Beautifully written story about Iona who bucks traditional rules about women to become a landscape architect and Thorpe the Duke who begrudgingly hires her. Great additional characters add to the richness of the story. Iona is a wonderfully strong woman and the chemistry between her and Thorpe palpable. There are a few twists, and like in real life, not everything can be fixed but it ends on an uplifting HEA. Enjoy! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

What a sweet story of a start-up woman making her own way in the world!!

💖 independent woman
💖 lovers by choice
💖 witty and charming banter across the board
💖 Heart-fluttering love
💖 While there are definitely moments that some romance novel tropes come up, there is an undeniable human aspect to Iona and Thorpe. There’s real love there that’s new and fragile and I absolutely LOVE how real they are with expressing themselves.

This story is total delight from start to finish. If ever there was a perfect book boyfriend, this Duke is it! He loved her unconditionally, this unique lady landscape architect, who has left her criticizing parents to pursue her dream in trade. The Duke gives her the big job of designing his estate grounds , and loses his heart in the process. They were perfect together! Their dialogue and clever banter was wonderful and their romance explosive! I hated to see the story come to a close!

good read

I enjoyed the story of Iona and Thorpe and was drawn in right away. I did feel the H was a little soft. IMHO he shouldn’t have let Iona leave because of her “station”. Tell the women how you feel!!!! I didn’t get the part where the ex betrothed came to visit Iona…why?? There was no purpose for that, just a question mark. A few parts that did not make sense, but I still really enjoyed the story!!
