Rate this book
An amateur ghost hunter’s plans to finally catch proof of paranormal activity in his college town are thrown off when he finds himself tangled in a local murder—and the charms of a cute stranger.

Bramburgh University: elite, steeped in tradition, every overachiever’s top choice—and the most haunted academic institution in America. Supernatural enthusiast Carl Dooley is right where he belongs. His favorite TV show, Paranormal Explorers, has chosen Bramburgh as their latest filming location, and Carl is prepared to do anything to meet his heroes.

What he isn’t prepared for: Elliott Saddler.

An intern on the show (and The Hottest Guy Carl Has Ever Seen), Elliott is one fetch of coffee away from abandoning his Hollywood dreams for law school.

But the summer has other plans.

When Carl and Elliott accidentally stumble on the dead body of a student in the woods, they find themselves caught in a wacky mystery involving ghostly messages, haunted basements, and hidden rooms filled with centuries-old secrets. As their investigation brings them closer to the truth, Carl and Elliott start to grow closer as well—until they must confront the most terrifying truth of all: falling in love.

The Ghost Hunter’s Handbook

This is quite a slow burner but excellent for it. Carl is obsessed with ghosts and ghost hunting and Elliot is an intern on Carl’s favourite show with its host Beck Lindstrom. Following the disappearance of a grad student, Eleanor Levine and their discovery of her corpse they become embroiled in trying to discover just what did happen to her. With genuine tension and a developing relationship between Carl and Elliot this is a sweet unfolding tale.

“The Ghost Hunter’s Handbook of Hauntings and Hot Guys” by Abby Kaitz is the third book in the Bramburgh Jackals series. It is an amusing blend of paranormal intrigue and unexpected romance set against the eerie backdrop of Bramburgh University—allegedly the most haunted academic institution in America. This book captures the quirky charm that’s becoming a hallmark of the series.

Carl Dooley, our amateur ghost-hunter protagonist, is easy to root for. His excitement over the *Paranormal Explorers* TV show filming at his university is contagious, and his awkward yet endearing attempts to meet his paranormal heroes make for some lighthearted moments. But the story truly kicks off when Carl crosses paths with Elliott Saddler, the gorgeous intern with Hollywood dreams, just as they stumble upon a murder mystery in the woods. The dynamic between Carl and Elliott is a real highlight of the book. Their growing relationship, set against ghostly messages and hidden secrets, is sweet and engaging. Kaitz does a great job of balancing the humor and heart, making their connection feel genuine despite the zany circumstances they find themselves in.

The mystery is intriguing, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. The haunted university setting adds a fun, spooky element that pairs well with the developing romance. However, the book never loses its sense of fun—there’s a good mix of ghost hunting, sleuthing, and witty banter.

Overall, “The Ghost Hunter’s Handbook of Hauntings and Hot Guys” is an enjoyable read that continues to build on the unique world of Bramburgh University. If you’re a fan of offbeat mysteries with a side of romance, this one won’t disappoint. It’s a solid 4-star read for me, and I’m looking forward to what Kaitz has in store next for the Bramburgh Jackals series.
